This weekend is Earthcache Weekend, so rattll and I came for a daytrip to Waitomo and Marokopa, targeting the earthcache at Piripiri Caves, and anything else in the vicinity.Having walked in to the cave entrance along the access track, we found this one quickly, as per the description. All good, signed, and returned as found. Tftc!
As It's earthcache weekend, matagouri and I decided to head to the Waitomo caves/ marokopa area to grab a selection of caches, including this one. It's an area i haven't been to for a while, and I certainly haven't been much beyond the main touristy cave before, so it was great to be able to explore a new place. No problems finding this one before checking out the cave itself. Thanks for putting this here
Together with Birba68 we found this one very fast. But before we looked at the wonderful cave. Thank you
The cave is well developed for tourism, so there is no real need for explorers. The box was easy to find. The problem with the full logbook was solved by subsequent finders. Thanks for that.Die Hhle ist touristisch betsnes erschlossen, sprich Entdeckergeist ist nicht wirklich gefragt. Das Dschen war gut zu finden.Das mit dem vollen Logbuch haben ja nachfolgende Finder beseitigt. Danke dafr.
4-week family trip through NZ - Find #46!Nice little forest walk, and an interesting cave . Thanks to the hint, we found this cache quickly, but the log is both wet and full, so some maintenance would be helpful.TFTC!
Look out for the steps, a bit slippery when wet. Needs new log as it's wet. TFTC!
It was fun and saw the cave. The cave was pitch black so scary. Easy quick find TFTC.
After visiting the Glow worm caves we decided to venture a bit further out this way to see more of this wonderful part of New Zealand. Here I also managed to find this cache while explaining to a couple of Muggles what geo-caching was all about. TFTC. My find no. 8.148.
A quick find after venturing into the caves! Great to have another reason to do this walk although probably would have done it anyway - an amazing part of New Zealand to explore!
Found - Mrs McMike2012 & I now live full-time in our caravan & travel the country visiting places we want to visit … we are currently parked up at the NZMCA Site in Otorohanga … decided we’d go for a drive & do an Ad Lab at Waitomo & then drive out to the coast, stopping at the Piripiri Caves & the Marakopa Water Fall … thought we might as well do a couple of caches while out this way … this cache was easily found, the area being ‘muggle’ free at the time, log-book completed & safely returned the cache to it’s position … pleased to add another 'smiley face' to the tally … TFTC ... TN:LN:SL ... #4,436 for us!
We got really lucky with our timing as there was nobody by the cave when we arrived. We explored it all by ourselves before about 20 people arrived. TFTC.
Second to last day with sister who is visiting from overseas so a visit to Waitomo Caves had been prearranged and then we decided to take a drive.
Unfortunately although I was prepared enough to bring torches along I wasn’t organized enough to download offline caches….oops rookie mistake!!
We took a quick look but with no description, hint or any other information we flagged the search pretty quickly and went to enjoy the cave instead…..I’ll have to come back

Very cool little cave ! Quick grab but there was a tissue on top of the cache, didn’t dare to touch it
It took a couple of attempts to find this cache and fortunately I didn't have to leave empty handed because I spotted something that didn't belong.
We didn't download the cache before and we found it without the hint! So lucky TFTC
Tftc good to read description beforehand. Had a fun day looking at different caves
Thanks Tufty for the cache. It’s #1418 for us. We found your cache on 18 February 2021. Quick find - amazing cave!
Had a fun time here. The walk just about did us in but the promise of snacks after kept us moving. Luckily Mum read up about this cache before we came as she lost all her data and we were going in blind. Luckily it was a quick find. Thanks for letting us know about this cave.
5th of 6 attempts today on this mission to complete unfound caches in the area. Lovely day out of the house. Did the nearby Earthcache as well. Havnt been here in quite a while. TFTC
Was excellent to come here and explore a cave by ourselves. The kids poor legs are getting tired now. Lots of walking yesterday and we had just done the loop walk from the natural bridge to the fossils. So we spent a good 15mins in the cave resting our legs and looking around and seeing how this cave was different to the others we’d visited. No bats today unfortunately!
Found this cache by geo sense as all my offline data suddenly disappeared!!! Luckily I found some wifi down the road at a cafe to download it all again TFTC

This was our last stop at the many amazing natural attractions from Waitomo to Marokopa and it didn't disappoint. Another amazing location.
After finding the cache we were fortunate that a large group of muggles left and we had the cave to ourselves.

What a cool set of caves! Didn't read the description due to lack of cellphone reception so didn't take a torch but the light from our cellphones were enough
Found this before visiting the cave in case muggles arrived. Quite straight forward and quick sign. TFTC
After spending some time in the caves I had a quick search for the cache which was easily found thanks to the hint. TFTC!
Forgot our pen so took a photo of log. Cache was very well hidden and had a good covering of webs! TFTC
A quick find before we descended into the nether world

it was late and dark enough for glow worms...and enough light to find the cache

I was out this way today with DragonDefender and replaced the multiple used logsheets with a new one.
Found as a part of a previous group TanjackMüley, now WanderingSparrow. Now I'm continuing on my own. TFTC
Quickly found. Cave was great! The logs were well used and hard to sign so like most we placed a small amount of paper inside as nothing very signable. Thanks for the cache.
Really neat spot. We loved descending the stairs in to the darkness!
Didn't take long to find the cache thanks to the hint.

(I apologise for the late log but the date is accurate)
Found today with the help of TwigNZ while we were up in Waitomo for a holiday of sorts. I had a great time finding this cache and thanks for placing it. TFTC

School holidays, plus the combination of public holidays and 3 days leave means I get to take my lad on a road trip. This time we have chosen Waitomo to be our destination, and today was our first full day here having arrived yesterday evening.
So having had a good rest after the long drive yesterday, I figured that a more relaxed day was on the cards and how better to make use of the wonderful autumn weather than to go exploring the local area? So we decided to go to the Marokopa Falls first and then make our way back to Waitomo from there.
The wonderful thing about Geocaching is that you are tempted to make an excursion to somewhere you may not have been bothered to, and discover something totally wonderful when you get there. This was definitely the case today. The lad and I had so much fun exploring all the wonders to be seen, both above ground and below. Just as well we were wearing clothing we didn't have to worry about lol!
We loved these caves, and stopped to take a ton of photos here. We were able to look for the cache before we explored the caves themselves as there was no-one else around. I could see exactly where the Hint was guiding us to, but it was actually my son who spotted the container in a place I had only given a cursory glance to. Oh to have young eyes again! All was ok with this cache so we were able to quickly sign the logsheet before replacing everything exactly as found.
Thanks for the adventure and the memories.

A bit confused by this DNF. We seemed to be at the right GZ (photo attached) but despite an extensive search nothing turned up. Then I see a brand new cacher found it the day before. Am I really that bad??? Will add it to my watch list to find out the answer to that question!
Had that feeling that I'd been here before as I was parking. As I got to GZ I realised that I previously had a DNF. Took me a fair bit of time to find it this time too, cunning little hide. Always cool to check out the cave. Late log. TFTC
With Lemmer in New Zealand at amazing caches. Thank you for showing all that beautiful places. flatrate
While one half of the team is sick, the other half decided to go out to hunt some caches while getting over to Marokopa Falls. All caches on the way over there (or driving back to Waitomo) where found and "photo-logged" as I lost my pen. Unfortunatily I didn't make the find at the Falls itselves,..., to wel hidden,....
Found this cache on a rainy day drive from Waitomo to Marokopa. On the way up to the cave, I saw my first ever fantail up close as it perched and flitted around the tree branches along the trail. It was cool to go down the steps and look around the cave with my headlamp.
Not really a hole-in-the ground person, so I was relieved to find the cache where it was! What I did see of the caves was pretty interesting, however. Thanks for making us stop here. TFTC
Haven't been around this way for a few years so took the coastal route from New Plymouth on a much improved road. The hint was very helpful with the tree cover but I still missed it on the first sweep. Thanks for bringing me here and for the cache.
On a caching adventure, spending the night in Waitomo, so out exploring while I still have light.
Only one other muggle on the track, so we have the area very much to ourselves. Make our way to GZ, and think I am in the right place. When cache not coming into view, got down on my knees to prey, and there it was
Thanks for the hide Tufty, its time to turn on the torch and go exploring

Soon we all went into that fabulous cave and had a good time there before another bus of tourists joined us
That cache , it’s still there, yay, but I went way too much down away( because my gps said so) and only on my way back I had a feeling to bend over and bazingo there it was
Put a new piece of logsheet in, all others are really full to the brim

Cats&Dragons and HKCB’s plan to explore the area had me interested from the minute they told me about it. Plans were made for the weekend and a last-minute addition included in form of a Canadian visitor slieschke. After spending an amazing time at the Double and Tawarau Falls we made our way over to venture into the cave and logged this geocache on our way back to the car. TFTC
It's a nice bush walk to this one with the added bonus of a CAVE! A qef with everything in good condition. Tftc Tufty
Just love exploring caves. Had camera out and waiting to take some great photos after locating cache. After short search with The X-Trailers we ventured inside. Loved the short walk to cache. A fav point for bringing us here okay. TFTC
After locating the cache we explored the amazing cave close by
May be an opportunity for an earthcache coming up
Found with earthlight

Thanks lots of things to see near this road pleased my sons fell asleep on the way in so they weren’t sick
Out for the day with muggle friends to see some of the great sights down this road and to pick up a few caches. These amazing geographical features are so easy to access - we are very privileged - TFTC
Ryan and Ally really enjoyed the coolness of the caves after the heat of the sun. A welcome relief and thoroughly enjoyed caching in the area. TFTC
Found with Redgremlin!
Today is the cave day!!! After several guided tours, we wanted to visit this one!

The visit to Piripiri Caves was combined with the search for the cache.
It was very quiet and we were the only visitors.
A good place to visit.

Traveling the length of Nee Zealand in Janene our Hucy van. Today we did the Black Water Rafting Black Abyss adventure, and it was most certainly that. The most fun I’ve had in a long while. Five hours of abseiling, zip lining, caving, waterfall climbing, tubing, gloworms and much more.
After all that fun we drove down the road a bit to see 3 more great attractions, this being one. What a beaufitul place, it’s quite amazing just now many natural geological features there are here, and how well set up for tourists to see them.
Only had phone torches here, cleverly I’d left the proper torch in the car, but this cave is well worth visiting, quite magnificent. And the mini caves near GZ are something that could be easily overlooked. TFTC

I've managed to wrangle a week off work after a busy winter. Had a meeting in New Plymouth last night, so once that was over, it was holiday time. Decided to head towards the Waikato, as I had solved all of the geo art there and was planning on concentrating my trip in that region.
When planning this trip, I noticed a few interesting looking caches down this road, so decided that this road would be my main focus for the day.
This cache is the exact reason that I love geocaching. I would never had known that this area existed if it was not for geocaching. It is spectacular and off the tourist track - 30 kilometres down the road at Waitomo Caves there were 8 buses parked up when I past, but here at these caves, I am the only one. Absolutely terrific!
This was a quick find, however I did think that the location was worthy of a larger container than what it there. Awesome caves, well worth the walk up. TFTC

On a spontaneous outing today. Seen this area come up on a tramping groups post and with the bonus of cache it was a must do. Cave is pretty cool. cache took a while to work out which one but got there in the end. Great spot. Tftc
On an afternoon roadtrip to Waitomo - enjoyed the quick walk and the cave - after a bit of circling finally found !
We enjoyed to visit the caves, and I « enjoyed » the walk twice because we forgot the lamp in the car ! No problem to find the cachet that bring us here. Many thanks for that.
Enjoyed the walk and the cave.
Fascinating microclimates throughout this region. Thanks Tufty!
Thanks for adding to our fun over Waitangi weekend. Camping at Juno Hall in Waitomo Village.

Travelling around this area for the long Waitangi weekend. The Piripiri caves was a must see for us so great to do a bit of caching along the way.
A few muggles around but they were more impressed by the caves and did not notice us. TFTC

Found in the afternoon of a long day. I drove down to Waitomo from the Coromandel, and went Blackwater Rafting in the Ruakuri Cave. I had first done Blackwater Rafting soon after it was started, in 1991, as part of a school geography trip. It was fun to repeat the adventure in my 40s!
Although I was exhausted, I set out west along the road to discover some beautiful looking places along the Te Anga road. After visiting the Marokopa Falls, I stopped off here and followed the entertaining "up hill and down dale" track to the cave. After finding the cache I took the opportunity to explore the cave with my torch. I certainly wish I could have explored beyond the barrier! Thanks for bringing me here. TFTC
