The track where this cache is located is on the list of tracks planned for reopening at some point in the future. However, it looks like this may not be until 2022/23!
Thanks for the message. I've been keeping an eye on any track re-openings in the Waitakeres and at the moment this track is still closed, so the cache can't be re-enabled. If the track was to re-open, the cache can be retrieved without leaving the track.
This cache is on a track that is currently closed due to Kauri dieback disease. The track could be reopened at some point in the future.....
I was only supposed to stay in Piha for 2 nights, but it's soo beautiful here, so I ended up staying here for 6 nights. I didn't wanna leave now either, at the same time as I would like to see more of New Zealand, so it's time to go. Today I drove from Piha to Paihia, only stopping at the "Must have NZ-caches".
About this cache:
This cache was the closest cache to where I stayed in Piha, and it's a letterbox, so I had to find this one before I left. Glad I took the walk up here, what an incredible view!!! The container was also very nice, dry and quickly found. Tftc, greetings from Norway
Adding a FP for the view and all the swags

Passing by today, so checked the cache and added 2 trackables.

I climbed to this one before it got too hot. I made harder work of this cache than necessary by having a left/right moment. I'm a dipstick. Possibly due to lack of coffee. Cache and contents in excellent condition. Thank you for bringing me up here; I marvelled at the view below.
Wish I knew my bushes better. Finally found it after trying several trees. Beautiful view. Thanks for the cache and bring me up to this spot. Worth the climb up.
Today we did about 15 km loop track from the waterfalls via several track coming back with Manungaroa track and visited this cache. The views were lovely and cache nice and big. I left inside Slovak personalized wooden geocoin. TFTC
Last day in NZ and we came back to the place where Supergrobi and I spent our second day on the island. After a few beautiful hours at the beach, we changed location and hiked up the hill. A lovely track to our only letterbox in NZ. We enjoyed the time and logged the book.
Thanks for placing the box up here.

# 3 found today
It was a steep climb but worth it once at GZ.
Container was well camouflaged but we found it anyway.
first letterbox in NZ on our final day.
Another day of our tour in New Zealand.
Sunny and warm most of the time while trying to make the most of our last day in New Zealand.

I was dreading more elevation gain after just doing a 10km loop with lots of 100m ups and downs, but this seems to be a short trek, so I headed up. The track was in better condition that what I was just on, so it was not too hard. Got to the top and enjoyed the view. Used the hint to zero in on the container, as my GPSr was pointing in a slightly different direction. Checked the elevation gain - yup, 100m again. Everything is in excellent shape. Thanks for the cache!
The track was a little muddy after all the recent rain, but this did not put us off huffing and puffing to the top of this hill. Views were stunning today on this Spring like day - truly postcard like! As we sat on the rock enjoying the sunshine and views, a couple of small skinks appeared to check what we were doing. Fortunately they were not interested in the cache container.
Last geocache to find in Piha before the map is all clear. Hence I was not able to leave without hiking up to GZ. Great view just before sunset. I was happy to be back in the warm car after a quick descend. TFTC
Headed up the hill from Glen Esk Rd for the first qualifying ramble for Rambler's Reward challenge. Quick find with great views, the showers were to come through later. TFTC
Part II of my grand plan to check out track options between Piha and Mercer Bay and with most of my Piha caches now happily found, decided to give this one a crack with lemski before heading over to areas of insignificance and beyond in search of potential trails.
Nice quick climb up the hill here with some great views once we got to the top. GPS initially had us at GZ well before the clearing, but common sense paid off and once we were out in the open it recalibrated and the cache confirmed we were in the right spot. Awesome place for a rest, dropped off a TB before heading back down - TFTC

A huff and puff up, but usually have to carry on up but not today. Was attacked by a swarm of ants on arrival. Had a good look at view, signed the log and off. Tftc
Lovely day out at Piha at my sister's bach in Glen Esk road , so very keen to finally do this one up at the lookout ! Nice big container ready to receive swaps and TBs !
Thanks Vistra !

A day out at Piha today - nearly 6 years since I was out here last - whew how time flies. Time to find a few more caches this time. I thought I'd have a go at this letterbox while we were in the area. A nice brisk hike up to the lookout and then a quick find for this good sized cache once we got there. TFTLBC, Biggles.
Went up the track to this lookout after finishing my hike in in Piha Valley. Was quite a workout going up here but the views were worth it. Cache was located quickly. TFTC.
Needed one more Letterbox Cache for my GIO Prov Licence Challenge so this one was it. Was a good climb and the clear instructions kept me on the right track. Nice quick find and what an awesome view. Gets an FP from me for that. TFTC
Decided to post a postcard from the edge, came up earlier but the post office was shut to the visually impaired. Came back up today to try again with merlot, after legging it up the hill I was relieved to find that merlot found the post office open for business today. Such a beautiful spot the views are spectalular. Headed back down for merlot to find a close by cache with more desirable terrain and a well earned cuppa. Beautiful day to walk this track, would not like to tackle it after rain. fav point from me.
Urbangypsy had difficulty finding the post office here so with an extra pair of eyes (me) she decided to try again. Whew, a bit puffed by the time we got to the top - terrain was a little bit more than 2.5 in my eyes or my slightly arthritic knees actually, particularly the last bit but wow, the view from here is spectacular. It didn't take too long to find the well hidden container and after stamping and signing and taking lots of photos of the view, we headed back down. Fav point for bringing me here as I had no idea this track existed.
Ive been up here many times and this was a perfect excuse to come again on one of Aucklands rare fine sunny days. Good hint made this an easy find. Nice tidy cache. Gave this a fav. tftc
Away for the weekend, while some of our group wants to watch a DVD, I still want to go for another walk. The decision is to leave Lion Rock until tomorrow, so this one is nearby, so we park on the the Glen Esk road entrance, and walk to Garden road.
Its a steady climb up, and we also stopped at the tree "is it dead or is it alive?" we decided it was alive. Part way up we diverted to the first lookout; photo's taken. Then the last 100m to the cache hide. Spotted the resting point, used the hint, and found the cache straight away. Swapped a piece of swag and signed the log. Sadly I had left my stamp at home, so will have to return to leave my mark in the letterbox log.
Beautiful views here, I had walked this in March 2013 and had forgotten about two stream crossings at the end, and that you need to go under the large tree branch (when you get there, you will know what I mean LOL).

Great little slipply scramble up the hill with two beautiful lookpits on the way. Great way to avoid the crowds even on a Saturday! Loved tthe hint - admittedly I took a rest, while my partner did the searching! Thanks go cache!!
A peaceful spot from which to enjoy a fantastic view. Straightforward find. TFTC!
I thought I had done all the walks in the Piha region. Some many times but somehow this one I hadn't. So apart from being FTF the cache I also wanted to see this Kitenui lookout! I was quite surprised this cache hadn't been found during the week so since I felt a good stretch of the legs and lungs would be in order I came here. Parked up at the suggested co-ords and it didn't take long to ascend to the top after 2 RH turns and what a view! I would say it is slightly higher than Lion rock. Soon found the large cache and signed the log. I also took the weta tag which I will move on today somewhere. Thanks for that cache and the neat location.

Was with CO at placement, beautiful views over Piha that afternoon, surfers making the most of the gorgeous weather and the beach was packed
We went the long way with some stream crossings and scramble up the rocks but was totally worth it
