#15553 - 12:20:00; Day 15 of the great USA and Canada Road Trip with Sol de lune, and the first leg which has taken us from Minneapolis through to Washington DC, is nearly done with our last day in DC before we head west to Seattle and Abbotsford for the big events over there.Today we returned to the National Mall between the Washington Memorial and the Capitol, seeking out the many adventure labs in the area around the various Smithsonian sites and where I collected this virtual as we made our way around on another warm day. Gathered the required information, which was sent to the CO who gave a quick OK. A fave for the story of this one.Greetings from Australia and TFTC The Wombles Cool

I arrived a bit late and could unfortunatelly not enter the museum to see his tomb...but luckily I met an off duty guard just exting and closing the main gate and she could tell me the answers. It was very obvious when she told me the name.

We enjoyed our stay in DC and went to several museums. Favorite was again the air and space. This time I could show my kids how amazing the Apollo 11 capsule is. If you see its simplicity you will believe every conspiracy theory about not landing on the moon Smile This is a top world heritage and worth a trip to Washington at its own. Glad that somebody related to this cash took care of it.
We recommend to have a coffee from the restaurant in the castle (one of the best in the mall) and enjoy the peace of this place.

02-Nov-13
My very first Washington, D.C. cache. We picked this one up after the National Walk for Autism Speaks. After having driven down from NY, I wanted to make sure I snagged at least 1 cache on my quick tour of D.C. Seeing how this one was so close to the event and didn't require additional downloads and passbooks, it was perfect! Thank so much for the history lesson!

01-Nov-13
Needed to fill a calendar day, so I reenabled all cache types on my phone, got off the train early on the Mall, and hopped over to the Castle as the post-Halloween rain poured down. The nice security guard jet me leave my soaked umbrella by his desk and pointed me to the Tomb, and moments later, I had the prized smilie. Thanks for the history lesson and a chance to pay my respects, and TFTC! Will email required answers when I get to work.

Thanks for the fun, caches and hides. All logs marked with a circled "GB". There's a challenge cache in our home state of Arizona that requires you to have found at least ten caches in a single day, none of which are traditional. Since we were coming back to DC for the first time in a long time, we thought we'd follow the CO's suggestion and knock off a bunch of virtuals on the mall to meet the challenge. So we took the Orange Line to the nearby Metro station and have been working our way westward. Our goal was to finish up at the World Wide Flash Mob event, and a dozen or so virtuals later, we succeeded.

We managed to guess who the Englishman might be before we arrived, but we were not aware of the fascinating facts we learned about him by doing this virtual. Thanks very much for bringing us here.

04-May-13

It´s been a couple of years since my last visit to the D.C. Area, but I knew which person was meant, the minute i read the listing. I spent a couple of days in the Smithsonian, because it´s so much to discover there.
Thanks to "The Wombles" for keeping this virtual cache up and running.

Found last week while on holiday in DC with the family. Emailed correct answers today. The geo-son and I picked up a couple of virtual types while waited for the others after we had been to the air and space museum. I had been here several years before the cache was placed and before geocaching was invented.
Thanks for the cache and quick reply.

On holidays from Australia and at present are staying around the Maryland area until we head off north to Niagara Fall and other areas up north. Cache owners have been emailed. TFTC

Another little detail that's so easy to miss when one is caught up with visiting this museum and that museum. It was well worth taking a few minutes to deviate from our plan and visit the important detail this virtual cache represents. Thanks for bringing us here.

thanks a lot for this visitor center !!

26-Aug-12
This is the 4th day of my much anticipated trip to the 1st International EarthCache (Mega) Event in Maine. Twelve states, (6 new ones) plus DC over 13 days. I'm very happy to have started this adventure. My walk around the mall started out with me tripped on the angled curb by the cross walks. Got just a tiny raspberry on my left hand. Saw so much today and missed even more. Will have to come back to just visit the museums. Today started out with some rain which stopped after an hour. Then clouds until the early evening when the heavy rains started. TFTVC

Awesome day to be in DC. Not too cold. We brought our grandson, via Metro, for a day at the Natural History Museum. He's still talking about it. Just before heading back to the Metro, we stepped into the Castle. Interesting slice of history here. There's just no way to anticipate what one finds upon entering and turning left. Nice job and Thanks. Answers coming.
