Today I left home reasonably early, with my bike on the ute, to meet up with Chezle and OZGrumpy in Riverton. We left my ute in Riverton, threw my bike on Chezles chariot and headed to Clare.A big day on our bikes riding both The Riesling Trail and The Rattler Trail to find caches while enjoying some country fresh air, a bit of sunshine, get some exercise and find a couple of DNFs of mine from a previous visit. All up a fun day, even if Im going to be a bit saddle sore tomorrow TFTC alex Keep smiling
I dont recall exactly but it must be about 4 months ago at an event when OZGrumpy, Jlly and I had a chat about riding the Reisling and Rattler Trails for caches.Today is the day and as the weather gods would have it, its going to be a 35deg day Cache quickly found and log stamped TFTC
Thanks alex for placing this cache and for the ongoing maintenance. Find #10687 on 2/11/2024 at 12:01PMA plan was hatched to ride along the Riesling Trail and collect a few caches. A delightful day in the company of Cheezel and Jolly riding along and signing logs. This is a special place, very enjoyable. We also collected some others that were nearby or along the way.
Found it but this location needs rethinking. Damp but intact. Maybe bring closer to the trail and made suitable fo informed or more accessible. Cheers and thanks for the challenge.
Another walk along part of the Riesling trail grabbing any caches we could find as we passed by.Many thanks for the hide alex
I was in Clare for a few days primarily to finally complete the Riesling Trail. I'd done some by walking but this trip was to clean it up.Who knew it was that hilly on the trail (I do now). Took me about 5 hours on a hot day before I gave up and went back to the caravan park for a rest.I finished what I set out to do later in the afternoon with a bit of walking. Always good to get a 2002 cache.TFTC
Travel to the Clare Valley and try and get the rest of the that I couldn't find previously. As well as surrounding town. Unloading and loading the mobility scooter to collect the finds. TFTCHad to find a spot to get to the top level, then a short walk back made nice easy find.
We are off on a trip to the Birdsville Races and then across to Queensland - the plan is for about 6 weeks of travel - all going well.
Week 1 we have travelled from Portland to Farrell's Flat near Clare.
Today the weather was a little better so we took the bikes to Auburn and rode to Penwortham for a very nice lunch and then back to Auburn - about 30km all up.
We really enjoyed most of this series of caches - not too close together and generally in easy to get to spots from the bike tracks. Only 1 DNF for the day
Thanks for contributing to our holiday alex

A return visit to Clare was planned for the long weekend with the JAMS crew plus tallbikestan to find a lot of the caches that we didn't get to on our last visit along with the Rattler, Riesling and NE trails as well as the Mid North Channel Country trail. [^]
We had three very full days with perfect weather for caching, lots of bike riding, lots of walking and lots of driving along dirt tracks. We were lucky it had not recently been wet as some of the roads we drove on would not have been passable if wet. Loved the scenery at this time of year with everything looking very green as well as the bright yellow of the canola crops.
A fun weekend of caching, lots of caches found and lots of cool places visited.
Thanks for the cache Alex & Jock.

A big long weekend with the JAMS Crew (JJ52, allister w(me), mogni, Sir Spectre and tallbikestan). We road from Riverton to Stanley Flat on day 1. Then more riding near Spalding on day 2. Then finished the weekend with finding caches around the area in the car. TFTC
always good to get a 2002 cache. Not that many left of that age unfound now.
glad we had electric bikes for this trail.
The JAMS team ( JJ52,Allister w, Mogni, and sir_spectre minus mitchell&hound ) but Tallbikestan was with us instead and we where out for there usually monthly caching adventure. This time it was over the october long weekend instead of the usual day trip. The taget this time was Drop into the Light a long ladder cache on the way to clare and then to clear the Rattler trail, Riesling Trail, Ne Trail saturday on the bikes and then sunday do the Mid North Channel Country bike trail. Monday on the return home was to get Peter's view a 2001 cache. Of course there was many, many other's found on route to the various target for the weekend, somewhere around 260 found by the team. It could have been more but we were not going at a flat out pace, just steady and getting a blow out on the bike 1.6 km's from the end of the Mid North Channel Country bike trail didn't help. I didn't see any snakes this trip but allister did, he saw 5. The caches this trip where written in as JAMS, i forgot the stamps. Also 1 cache was placed by the JAMS team this trip. Out of all the bike tracks i preferred the Rattler /Riesling trail. I like riding through the very rich ( after all the recent rains ) fields of yellow flowers.

Whew! That was a steep climb up. Fantastic to see such an old cache still in play. Stunning part of the world. Thanks. TFTC
Cache #11583
Headed north today on a bit of a pre maintenance run, dropped into the Clare Catching Carnival Flash mob to catch up with friends, present and future. But the main aim of the day was some cardio exercise on the bike, finding caches of course. Managed to rectify 4 DNFs on the Rattler and N E Trails and to finish off the Riesling Trail. Put 32K on the bike and walked another 4.2K. So all in all a very successful and satisfying day out.
Spent a while searching the slope before I realized that this was much older than the Riesling trail caches. So straight up to the top for a quick find and stamp.
Thanks to alex for putting out this cache for us to find.

Parked up at Sevenhill and made our way along the trail down to water vale for lunch finding all the caches along the way, beautiful trail and quite easy to ride along dodgy the muggles, all but one cache found that we stopped at.
Off to Clare for an overnight trip mainly focusing on getting the bikes out for a spin and hitting the rail trails for some adventure and indulging in the local wine culture, whilst finding some caches along the way. A lovely weekend away dodging the weather. Total of 91 finds for the 2 days.
Thanks for the cache

Yippeee for longevity and SA! Bingo bango! Fourth day in SA and out on trusty treadles aka my mtb to explore the trails and surroundings. I’ve learnt theRE are plenty of quality SA caches - plenty to pique the curiosity and anticipation of another surprise or fun cache. Happy and relieved to record no DNF’s today and on average most were located ‘relatively’ quickly. TFTC AND THE FUN and the effort to contribute to this fave game over such a long period!
In all our travels we would not have even thought to travel to this location.

This weekend, jesswrigley and I headed to the Clare Valley for a bit of wine tasting and cycling the Riesling Trail. We were treated to great sunny weather, and nice to have been visiting the wine region.
Today, jesswrigley and I started the day by heading north around Clare to visit a few miscellaneous locations and old churches. We then made our way to Polish Hill River, and then on to Mintaro where we participated in the famous maze. After visiting *Taylors Wines* for a wine and chocolate tasting, we had a final session cycling along the Riesling Trail north from Watervale. We then made the return home, briefly stopping at Tarlee, Stockport, and Hamley Bridge.
This geocache had been on my bucket/priority list due to its age: A nice oldie 06/2002 hidden cache. So it was good to have found this one whilst riding the Riesling Trail today. It was a bit steep to climb up and access, but once up, we managed to find this cache after a short search. The cache container and logbook were in good shape. Thanks Alex & Jock for the cache placement and ongoing maintenance.
Note that this geocache was logged with the *Team Warren* Davidwazza/jesswrigley stamp.

Sorry for generic delayed log - Found on a lovely weekend away at Leasingham, exploring the local surrounds. TFTC
Nice weather again for a drive, this time into the mid-north. Caching with Sebastbat, Jack, and Purrfect Di.
Supporting the regions, visiting the market at Saddleworth and some shops in the Clare Valley, and finding some caches along the way of course. Exercise for all
Nice to find another cache of historic proportions. A little height adjustment had us in the right spot.
Has been a bit damp, but hopefully the log will dry out with a few sunny days.
As a nice touch, a map published by the CO was available at the start of our walk
Some riesling would be good right now, or a nice shiraz...
thank you alex for the cache
Was a good day overall for caching, but between caches we found ourselves doing some random roadside emergency nursing ! ! ! Glad to have good first aid gear and supplies on board and have caching put us in the right place at the right time to help someone out today
At least it wasn't us needing the SAAS help
Stay alert - you don't know what you will see out there
-------------------- --------------------
2020 - our caching curve has been flat long enough ! ! ! Time to get out and find a few
But do keep sanitising! Safe Distance. Exercise. Cache. Eat. Cache. Repeat.
And stay home if you're sick!
Support our local regions by hiding lots of new caches!
( especially around the Barossa/Light area please [:o)] )
--->>> oh, and make sure your first aid kit is stocked and in the car ! ! !
Found after a scramble up the bank..... not easy but Mr Juju volunteered & the cache was soon in hand TFTC
Rather than scramble up the steep slope, we went the simple way. Contents water damaged. TFTC Alex & Jock.
With GreyHams we set out on a new adventure, driving from Adelaide to Sydney via broken Hill and Bourke... with side trips in all directions as the caches lead us. Four days with a number of target caches along the way, although shires, oldies and virtuals were our priority with many others of interest too.
From the lush green of South Australia into the dry outback of NSW, contrast, scenic and interesting. With GreyHams trip planning we traveled along easily as he drove and navigated and chattered! Never a dull moment through the stark and barren land which was completely fascinating.
So many odd locations to be seen, as well as emus, kangaroos, birds, a desert horse and so many teeny tiny little goats! So many goats... I did love those goats! The dry and barren made way for more substantial lands as we drove closer towards the end of the trip, the trees returned, the hills and finally those little goats... Yay!
About 2500km, 29 shires, 4 virtuals, a number of oldies and some nice walks and places visited along the way. The locals and little towns memorable, the lands and rivers dry and sad but a great trip as we traveled along from cache to cache.
Thanks for your cache to help guide us through our travels, apologies for the generic log, If I had more to add its below this.
An oldie and worth the easy flat walk to along the trail. A bit extra to walk around easier and not make the direct approach but nothing to it.

Aquilus1 and I have long been looking at our Project-GC maps and trying to 'finish' NSW, which is our closest real state (we both completed the ACT on our first ever finds). Of course we rarely have long term plans, the best trips just sort of happen without too much notice, but we had been thinking about this trip since halfway through the last one.
This plan was to go from Adelaide to Canberra, via the 'hard to reach' counties at the north/north-west of NSW that we had missed last time. Some research showed flights to Adelaide were cheap (well, using points) but also well timed. Arriving at the start point at 7.30am means you are away with a full days caching in front of you. What really sealed it was the one-way car hire deals from Adelaide to Sydney/Melbourne. Sure, this means we have to catch the bus from Sydney airport, but saving $800 sure has a sweet taste.
Day 1:
After landing in ADL airport we made a swift start grabbing the virtual there, I do so love an airport virtual. From there it was all about Oldies and Counties with a couple of Large caches thrown in for bonus value.... got to love a Large! Soooo many counties in Adelaide, and we grabbed as many as we could without detouring massively... we had a long way to go in 4 days after all. I did quite like the grid layout of Adelaide, it means if you encounter roads that are blocked it was easy to reroute. It was slow going in Adelaide (city caching is always slow) but we eventually made our way out and got to the highway. Almost missed Gawler as we were too busy chatting away, it would have left a large hole in our county maps The Clare valley has such an amount of caches and a bunch of oldies, so it took a bit of time to get through as well. So, so green up this way, it was a pleasant surprise for me. The original plan was to get all the way to Broken Hill today but with so many counties and oldies we only got as far as Peterborough, in the dark amid pouring rain.... and got the last 2 rooms in the last motel in town...close call. This was 'proper' small town and we had dinner at the hotel, as it was the only place open.
Day 2:
OK, we have some time to make up as we are 3 hours down the road from where we though we would be starting this day...luckily my alarm was gentle and right on time. Wow, the countryside looks so, so different to yesterday. Now is proper outback and by the time we got to Yunta it was almost desert, really dramatic stuff, but still populated with the odd random goat. We got to Broken Hill and prioritised the highlights: the mine shaft and the big chair.... the HJ's was a fine lunch as well. From there we left and continued across the scrub of western NSW, through Wilcannia, into Cobar with goats galore in between and finally to Bourke, once again in the dark and rain. Bourke was our original destination for Day 2 and we surprised ourselves at making it this far. Again we got the last 2 rooms in the last motel in town.... and we tried 4!! Really riding our luck.
Day 3:
OK, next services are in Brewarinna which is 180km away, we have fuel for 200... so off we drive into the desert without a second thought. Yep, smart thinking! We did make it of course but it was a close run thing. Rivers out here were very sad to see... mostly just sand with water here and there.... but not much. Bogan river was non-existant, the Barwon a set of pools with nothing in between. We went through Walgett, less said the better. Through Gilgandra on a private new road ending at Mudgee. Motel had heaps of rooms for once!
Day 4:
Last day and all about getting to the airport through the blue mountains grabbing counties on the way. After dropping off the car we ran to the bus where it was waiting and managed to convince the driver to let us on, while I was buying tickets over the phone... all worked out in the end, but yet another example of our fine luck on the trip.

Another cache that I let Andy clamber to rather than trying myself. Would be interesting to know what the terrain was like when cache was placed as a direct approach now is rather steep. Good thing that someone planted those trees there. tftc
Riding the Riesling Trail with Pony1966, filling in a gap we missed last time. Terrain rating is way higher than 2, need to be a goat! TFTC
Yay..it has a pen!! But it doesn't work and it leaks... so left a finger signature. Out on a nice evening stroll along the RT. Needs a new pen.
Mrs iluvtrekking and I dropped our geo-men off in Riverton to undertake the 44 klm cycle ride back to Clare. They spent 9 hours to complete the trail with a couple of dnf's along the way but marvelled at the scenery and had an awesome day. Thanks alex
After dropping the GeoHubbies off in Richmond ride into Clare, Mrs richlink and I set off on a caching trip of our own. Thanks for your cache alex.
TFTC each cache along the trail provides motivation like milestones along a journey
Found this cache on 19/3 having a fun biking/wine tasting day with team crumble. Seems like my online post disappeared. Logged to complete
Spent the weekend staying at Leasingham with fellow cachers Meg_Norti2 and Baking Tray Pancakes. Rode from Leasingham to Clare and back. Some caches were found, along with some wineries, bakeries and sore butts! We all had fun though and will no doubt be back to find the rest.
Another great find while in the area on holiday.

apologizing in advance for the generic logs. was in clare for the weekend to attend the events (my first events since becoming a geocacher) and I am now back logging. Many thanks for the caches was a really good weekend
Found It!
So since this cache is on the Riesling Trail doesn't that make it part of the powertrail? And if so, does that make this cache the oldest powertrail cache in the state?! Is there anything Alex didn't do first?!

A great day was had by all and a big thank-you to all the CO’s who have gone to the trouble of setting up this great caching trail. A huge honourable mention goes to Emma (the littlest Shattell) and Luke (the littlest pirate) who both powered through the day at the head of the pack. TFTC Alex and Jock!

An amazing weekend of laughs, smart aleck comments, wine, food and fun shared with a fantastic group of people!
Over the whole weekend of pushibke riding, caching and travelling I managed to attend 3 great events , find 128 caches and surprisingly even scored a FTF as my last cache of the weekend at almost 8pm on my way home Thanks for leaving 1, Freddo
Today as part of the group BCBB, I rode the Riesling Trail and picked up the caches which I hadn't already made it to [^]
Definitely need to get 'saddle fit' as that seat sure isn't as comfy as my motorbike seat!
This is as good as it gets! Sharing the fun, and pain, with like minded people
Riding this trail has been a goal of mine since I started caching and this weekend, that goal was achieved...and made better by wonderful breakfasts to start each day and a great tea Saturday night after the biggest pushbike ride I have undertaken in about 30 years

In Clare for the weekend and the BBBCBB (The extra B is for brilliant... What's the other extra B for? That's a typo). Three events, well over 60 caches, and quite a few milestones (congrats to the squirrel and a pair of cats) ensured it was a great weekend, if not a little exhausting! There was wine and cheese, D/T gap puzzle solving, much falling on the air pillow during rain and hot chocolate at the end of the ride courtesy of Mrs Scoobster! Has hot chocolate ever tasted so good? I think not!
This was find number 22 of 49 for the night for me. TFTC alex!

Mr Tardis went on a big bike ride today with many other crazy cachers. We had a great time riding from Clare to Auburn (even though it was freezing cold!)
The caches were signed as BCBB (Big Clare Bike Bash). A really enjoyable bike ride with some great caches along the way.
Nice to see this old cache from the original Clare caching weeking still suriving fit and well.
Thanks for your cache along the trail alex

In Clare for the weekend to do the Bike assault on the RT and Rattler series. We had a great day today , lots of fun with a great bunch of people, although a little sore after our 25 odd Km bike ride. The weather was kind to us, and although cold, the rain held off long enough for us to complete the series. Apologies for the generic logs, but we appreciate the time and effort that the CO has gone to, to place this series. Log was signed collectively as BCBB as requested by the CO.. TFTS
Today was a awesome day with a bike ride organised to tackle this trail today and the Rattler trail tomorrow, as we have done the rattler we only stayed one day and cleaned up all the unfounds, we have found bits and pieces of this trail so now its nice to have the whole trail of our to do list, although we were suppose to ride as one group we ended up being 2 groups as someone yelled out (that would be me lol) does anyone need their air pressure checked as i had a air compressor onboard and soon had quite a few bikes that needed air, it was a good move as some bikes didn't even register any air, that would have made for a bumpy ride, eventually we set off and to play fair we stopped at every cache and touched that cache checking the logbook was signed etc so we never really caught up to the first group, mother nature looked like she was going to wet us at one stage but held off till later on and made up for it with some really heavy down pours, it was a very enjoyable day with great company and a nice easy bike ride, this was a very enjoyable trail to do : ) TFTC
Repeat logs to keep them short - we were part of BCBB - TFTC alex!
Nice to see such an old cache still going strong after all these years

Found as part of the Big Clare Bike Riders Bash using the code BCBB. Thankfully the weather held out for us today and a great time was had by all. The kids were champions and rode the whole trail with no complaints.
A big thank you to Mrs Shattell, GDA, Chrispy and Kellygang, for car shuffling and picking up those in need, and Squash 99 for replacing caches and log books.
Cheers and thanks for the cache

Took the well worn easy path to this one after reading the past logs. Didn't fancy breaking my neck on that climb besides all those pine needles are super slippery. TFTC. Cheers.
Teamed up with Sorceysal this week to do a raid on this cache rich state, and left with over 1000 finds in 8 days, including travelling over and back to bacchus marsh in Vic. Today we travelled from Wallaroo to Auburn, left the caravan there, and did the rattler series before heading to Clare to start this series.
We was really impressed with the variety of hides, concise coords, and the beautiful scenery around here.
Thanks so much to alex for the chance to enjoy this great ride with the bonus of these multiple caches along the way.

Another epic day of caching with the bogonghazy's. Picked up over 1000 caches in 8 days in the cache rich state. A variety of hides, good co-ords and great scenery added to the enjoyment of our road trip. This was a bonus for us as we didn't think we would have time but managed to complete a few along the way Thanks for all your efforts alex in placing this cache for us to find.
Pretty hot going today, just as well I've got my water with me.
Thanks for the cache Alex.

Easy find but steep climb. Nice weather! Cool but sunny. Strange for this time of the year in Clare Valley tftc.
Touring Australia having left Perth in late February we are leisurely touring South Australia.
Camped at Auburn this was supposed to be a nice easy ride to Clare on our Electric bikes and return. But Not...... After 1km Mrs Felix bike had a flat tyre. So after returning to get the car, then returning to the bike shop in Auburn for a tube and then the tube being replaced 1/2 the day was over. In fact it was lunch time so of course a little stop at the pub for lunch before deciding what to do.
After a delightful lunch on the deck watching the world go by we set off yet again on the bikes to see how many caches we might find.
The afternoon turned out delightful and we completed halfway before turning back, but boy very chilly on the return 13km ride straight home. Our hands were blue before returning to the fireplace.
But aside from the chill factor this has to be one of our favourite ever trails. This is what geocaching is about to us. Awesome and we thank you so much for sharing this trail with us.

After completing our 2nd trip around Australia, we are now going up through the center.
Currently camped at Auburn, to cache around the area.
Picked up this cache, while doing the RT series.
Cache was found quickly, and in good condition.
Many thanks for the hunt today, alex.

Yes we found this cache...yes we enjoyed it...and yes, we could see ourselves in other cachers' logs! HundredRoby climbed up the hill/cliff and as she was doing it we were complaining about the terrain...well once she was back down, we found the other much safer and easier way, which was much more applicable to the terrain! Just like another group of cachers, HundredRoby had not taken a pen up and I was halfway up trying to throw it up to her...took a few throws before success! Good fun and a smileyface! TFTC
