Easy find after a bit of searchTftc

10-Jul-24
Up in Whangarei for a few days and today we picked up a lot of caches through walking around the river walkways and up Parihaki summit. This one is a beauty and I love how well concealed you can remain whilst searching for it! Had a great walk up and the weather was great apart from a very small amount of precipitation on the way down. This has to be a favourite - my advice to others is to keep on past the trap TFTC

Searched the area well and couldnt find anything

21-Nov-23
Searched the bushes but couldn't find it

14-Oct-23
Staying overnight at an Airbnb not very far away I took a wander up the road to capture a few caches before dinner. With an AdLab stage, virtual and part of a multi done close by I came unstuck with this one. I spent far too long in the bushes and needed to move on. Thanks PageHeart#4726Logged using Cachly.

That was a tough one, well hidden. The eldest boy found it. The other logs helped keep us focussed on the rough area. Happy to get this one done. On a beautiful day up the mountain. Kept it well hidden in position. Thanks

24-Sep-23
After stopping at the top this was next on the list ...... it took a bit of searching, made more difficult because a "chatty" local wanted to give us their life history ... eventually back to searching and after reading previous logs finally Mrs B had it in hand. Very well hidden so very pleased to walk away with a smiley

22-Jan-23
Checked today whilst doing the CITO to make sure it didn't get picked up by mistake. All good.

02-Jan-23
we looked for a long while (group of 4) and we couldnt fibd it for the life of us... a lot of effort for a sad day.

30-Nov-22
Was exposed- we covered it over with fronds. So nice to see an ammo can, and in such an interesting spot. Would not have liked to have been here when this defensive ditch was being attacked...

A quick visit up to the top of Parihaka this morning before heading back home to Auckland. We had attempted to find this one earlier in the year without success, so thought we would give it another try with several recent Find logs. This time we got to the right place where the good-sized cache was easily spotted. Nice to turn that DNF into a Smiley. TFTC.

Arrived in town in time to go out night caching with rustynz and gorby Big Grin

Up the top taking in the views, thanks for this fun little hide. No TB seen, but the views are amazing.

16-Sep-22
A couple of cars pulled into the carpark just after I'd arrived, so I quickly went for this cache while the coast was clear. Fortunately it was a quick find (its not covered at all). Then back to the lookout to work on the virtual and multi here.
Thanks for putting this here

16-Sep-22
Funny how everywhere we go we see the name rattl, same day of logging but we never have bumped into them. While up here at the summit of Pirihaka, I got rusty and Rebel to do multiple things: the virtual cache, wp ad lab, multi cache wp and now we're doing this cache. It was pitch black, we walked down the stairs with torches and rusty found the track which led to the nice big cache. She called out to me and Rebel and we followed her by seeing her torch.

Thanks for the hide PageHeart. Now we're off to see some glow worms and a waterfall and count some stairs - all in the dark.

16-Sep-22
With rebel98 and gorby on a night time adventure (there is a night lights adlab). So here we are with torches admiring the city from above.

We drop down to the cache, and whilst the boys went one way, I went the other and found the cache.

No TB found, but happy to be signing the log. Thanks for the hide

Decided on a drive up to the lookout and then a walk down the Goetzee track, this was cache find number 1, nicely tucked out of view from the masses at the lookout!
Quickly found and replaced, thanks heaps.

07-Nov-21
Knocked off around lunchtime and decided to go for a walk and grab some caches.

This was the 3rd find today. Was not that busy at the top which was quite surprising. Only had to wait for 1 couple to leave before attempting to find.

Thanks for the cache

Walked right past it first time and went looking elsewhere. Then my 5 year old said he’d already spotted it so back we came. Very cool find with lots of interesting treasures inside tftc

The GPS jumped around a lot here, and we struggled to identify a GZ, so searched lots of places. Finally reading through previous logs gave us enough inspiration to look in the right place and make the find.

05-Jun-21
Found with a little help from a friend as it was where we were looking but didn't go far enough. TFGC

Okay, after years and years I finally found it! Coming back to put in some goodies, great place to hide from Muggles. Did need to hunt further in than I thought.

Pretty good hiding place. Thanks

19-Feb-21
As soon as I saw this cache I knew it was the perfect spot to place a Travel Bug I have been holding onto since July. I picked it up outside of Gisborne and it needs a special type of container to be left in and this is perfect. Marvellous, I can finally set it free.

15-Feb-21
Nicely hidden. Lovely big container so I will come back with a rather large TB that needs a container like this. Great spot too but the weather is rubbish so no views to be had.

15-Feb-21
Well hidden, don't be afraid to get muddy if it's wet.

11-Feb-21
I was sent up to Whangarei for 3 days to finish off some work that we couldn't complete before the Christmas holidays. Luckily for me, I was sent up here by myself, which meant I could take the rental out and get some geocaches after I had finished for the day.

After finishing work I headed to the hotel to change and then headed up to the lookout. There were quite a few people walking and running around the lookout, even in the heat. I had to time my attempt to find this cache in between passing muggles. Managed to sneak in and thankfully I was quite hidden while searching.

I realised once I had found the cache that I had lost my pen somewhere along the way. I back-tracked to see if I could find it, but alas it was not meant to be. I took a photo of the log book and the TB that was inside.

09-Jan-21
What a great place for a T/B house
Still nice and dry up here with ABCDF4

02-Jan-21
Spending some time in the North gathering caches along the way..this took a short search as the weather wasn't playing the game...now I am drenched, but yes victory..many thanks sadly no TBs resident today

02-Jan-21
Today was wet and not conducive to walking up hills. We drove to the top in our motorhome. Unfortunately we still had to get out to find caches! This one took a little while to unearth as GPS wasn't playing the game and it wasn't fun in the rain. Perseverance paid off. Thanks for the cache PageHeart

01-Jan-21
The first cache of 2021. Amazing views from the platform. TFTC

27-Dec-20
Were up here enjoying the view when someone asked if there was geocache around here; and at last a large container!

18-Oct-20
Came to Whangarei to play in the NZ Masters Squash....but always make time for a little bit of caching - especially when I come to a place I've not been to before.
My games are now finished (didn't quite make the finals LOL) - so this morning is an exploration day with a friend. She was keen on a big walk - so we came from our AirBNB to this walkway...then up to the lookout and down the other side before walking back along the waterfront and back through town to the Squash club. Was about 3 hours - with a few stops for caches. Didn't let a recent DNF put me off searching for this - it was tucked away under some camo. Such a cool view from the top up here - TFTC PageHeart

13-Sep-20
Couldn’t find it today sadly!

Took a bit of search, being big and out of view of track helped.

Parked up while we waited for the family and headed up to do a quick pre-find recce before the twins came up the steps. Wit the cache pre-found, and the nearby hazard identified (and avoided) we soon had the cache in hand and swapped some SWAG in and out. All good here and great views up here.

A caching day of three halves today. The first part of the day was spent up the top of Parihaka which I'd been eyeing up since last visit but we managed to get a few whilst up that way along with mrs c, son Ed and the 3 year old twins, a 2 year old and little Mahlia in the carrier on his chest. All this overlaid with yet another scorcher of a day and good fun and sweating was just the trick. For the rest of the day we headed out to Whangarei Heads for a first trip out that way and with a timing for low tide on Ngunguru spit to be made we didn't stay too long out there.
Good variety today and some awesome scenery, again. Thanks to all COs.

After a weekend in Wellington and catching up with my UK based mother and her cruise trip to NZ, we made the most of being up here on the North Island and added an extra 6 days in Northland to the trip itinerary. We flew up to Auckland on Sunday afternoon and after a faff around with a hire car we took the scenic/dark route up the Helennsville highway to the North. Arrived late on Sunday night and straight to sleep. We had a week with son Ed and his 4 under 3 years old children. Fun time was had and some nice experiences.

06-Feb-20
We had to come up to this monument and viewpoint, so why not a cache as well! After a short search the capacious container was found and we signed in. TB out. TFTC

06-Feb-20
We really hadn’t planned to come up here on this overcast but warm day, but tracking down some puzzles have been solved led us up this way so we couldn’t resist coming here. As it turns out it’s a magnificent piece of history and a fine view point. Always nice to find a TV hotel, and the fake ammo can’s nice as well.

02-Feb-20
All good. Left a traveller in there.

We found this cache two years ago. Now, having two trackables in our inventory, we decided to put them here. Thanks for maintaining this TB hotel.

26-Jul-19
A thigh workout and a half! Found this cache on our way up and down the hill working off our pudding last night! Dropped two bugs here.

13-Jul-19
While attending a conference in Whangarei, we took part in a group walk up Mt Parihaka. Definitely a good workout as we struggled to keep up with the leaders, but the view was worth it, and finding a cache at the top before heading back downhill was a bonus. Found with a local who was aware of geocaching and may try it herself in future! TFTC SmileSmile

I decided to make a long weekend trip to Auckland region to see my favorite band Halestorm at the Power station Wednesday evening plus visit friends who are moving back to the UK in the next few months. Plus those who attended one of my three events had a bit of a fun surprise. I had tagged a few caches in Auckland and lower Northland which would help with my D/T grid and Jasmer challenge. Its very hard to pass so many good caches as I travelled around but I will do a proper trip before/during the 2020 Auckland Mega, although a week is unlikely to be enough time to make a dent.... oh well need some for training/work trips to the area too. Apologies for the generic log - that's the problem when lone caching - you don't always have time to write a good unique log at the time.
Once got gps to settle on 4m started to look for geotrails. Third attempt and ah ha likely spot and it was. Took tb dropped another

Took me and my partner a good 20 mins to find. Very well hidden and my gps had me walking in circles. Tftc!
