Nice quick easy find today. Thought it would be a lot harder but I guess my hands just found the right place.

18-Sep-24
Great spot for a cache, found on my way back from a work trip to Rotorua and a pickup of one to finish off Tirau. Thanks to CO for a little hint after some unsuccessful searching.

Oh wow. If I knew what this nano was stuck to we never would have even attempted this cache. Arrived at GZ and didnt see the piece of machinery until I was right at the listed coordinates. Searched for a few minutes then needed to poop so I gave my pen to irondale and ran down to the information centre where I found some pretty decent toilets and to make it even better had warm water for hand washing. After pooping I was much more relaxed and rejoined irondale who was still searching. In about two minutes I put my hand on the cache.Gotchya!Happy to have searched for and found this cache today. TFTC

Heading out to find some more of the Bison series with rattll on a gray day. This one has eluded me on several occasions previously, so when a coffee attack struck in Tirau, it was a perfect opportunity for another look. Success this time, thanks to rattll. All good, a brand new(ish) log to sign. FP for a cache that's been a nemesis for a couple of years now. Tftc!

01-Aug-24
The realtors were kind enough to allow me to keep my bags dry for 10 minutes whilst I searched but I had no luck with this one. I'll search again next time I'm here.

10-Jul-24
Not sure it's still there.Based on the last photo from the owner, it's not there anymore....

I saw the maintenance request and came over to Tirau to check it out. As Id recently fixed this cache, I suspected that it was still in place It was. I reckon the last finder found a piece of old logbook that may have come adrift. No maintenance needed today - Happy hunting people!

We were passing through Tirau today on our way to Taupo and thought we would stop to have bit of a walk around and clean up a few caches. Looking at the D rating and the cache type were were a little concerned when at GZ but it did come pretty quickly in the end.

This cache has crept a bit over recent months. I came to replace the logbook a few months ago but couldn't find the cache. Thankfully, someone returned it to its correct position, so the log has been replaced and is good to go. Happy hunting!

02-Apr-24
Looked and poked around for a little bit. We were on a time limit as we needed to get to Auckland and there were lots of muggles around looking at us. Might come back later and have a better look when we have more time and not getting muggled out. Even though we DNF, this town and its art is still beautiful.

30-Mar-24
Found with Reschedule after breakfast on our way to Auckland for a caching weekend. Took us a short moment, but then put my hand in a likely spot and there is was. TFTC

30-Mar-24
Finally getting around to parking up and collecting this hide, on our way up to Auckland for Easter we figured we would stop in here for breakfast and hatch a plan to collect the little bugger, no shortage of muggles and strange looks with 3 of us climbing all over, KiwiDoes discreetly pulls out the cache. Sadly the logbook is full, TFTC!

Day 2 of our tour around the North island with Blue Jay. Today, we drove from Matamata to Rotatua, taking in a fantastic tour of The Hobbit movie set. We also found some great caches along the way.We searched here for a while without success and went for coffee. After reading a previous log we searched again on our way out and found straight away...TFTC. Toffee Man.

15-Mar-24
Well thats a monster. We gave up after about 20 mins when it started to rain. Went and had lunch in the Bugger place (re-named now?) enjoyed the signs. Decided on one last look after picking up a wheelie big hint from a log and Toffee Man had it in hand in 10 seconds. Log book full. We also acknowledge the traditional custodians of New Zealand / Aoteroa, as we geocache throughout their land while on holiday. Thanks for showing us this place, & for placing and maintaining this cache. The is our playground

Around and around I went, then high and low, eventually covered in grease from sticking my fingers in every nook and crevice. After about 15 minutes a muggle surprised me asking if I was trying to start the tractor up. We had a good laugh and I spent 2 more minutes looking before I finally found it. The log is full so I took a pic for proof. Tricky little bugger!!!

Having taken yesterday off as leave, and with Monday being Wellington Anniversary, I am making the most of a 4-day weekend by spending it with friends in the Waikato in order to try to target a few specific caches up here and otherwise boost my numbers for January.Today involved a great deal of driving to a lot of beautiful places which make me want to come back and spend a lot more time at. One of the joys of geocaching for me is that I get to see places that I wouldn't have thought to visit otherwise, but often you just get a 'taste' of a place because you're rushing off to get another cache somewhere. This particular cache has been a minor nemesis one for me. I've been here a couple of times, but not really been able to have a really good hunt due to muggles. Today I was in the company of 3 former finders, so I figured I'd have a really good chance of locating it.As one expect with a hide of this nature, it tends to suffer a little from cache creep. So we all started to look in different spots according to where those people had found it however long ago. But it didn't taken long for one of them to find it again whilst I had just started my search. Unfortunately the log is completely full, so I was unable to sign it but did take a photo as evidence of my find. Thanks for setting up this challenging cache.

Day one of an extra long weekend and time for a little road trip / holiday with some of the team SEAC crew. We took a little wander through town to stretch our legs and with 5 of us searching here it thankfully didnt take too long to find the cachephew! We then realized that only one had actually brought a pen along for the wander and after unrolling the log found it was full oops. Thanks for the cache - we had a laugh here!

Heading down to Palmerston North for the long weekend with group, HeMaLuDy, UncleSamNZ, Keylev and my self, in search of good cache numbers where none of us had cached much before...Much easier searching for these with a group...and finally made the find....TFTC.Razz

On a trip down country to help my ageing mother with some cleaning up, I had to stop in Tirau for some sustenance. With Tirau being its usual busy self, I parked where I could and headed off to the cafe that was closest to this cache, and the one it was named after. The name of the cafe has changed, but the decor still harkens back to its former life.

After refuelling myself and double-checking where the cache was, I headed to GZ. It didn't take me long to spot the cache, but there were a couple of muggles parked in front of GZ talking about something. I don't think they saw me as I made a quick stealthy retrieval of the cache as I walked past it. I carried on a bit and around the corner where I filled in the log. Now to try and put it back equally as stealthily. I think I managed it because neither of the muggles seemed to take any interest in what I was doing.

Where to start… so many places to hide for this sneaky little hide. But got there eventually without drawing too much attention to myself hopefully. Tftc

13-Aug-23
Bugger we are locked out of the hall! Stopping here to visit family at an event in the Tirau Hall. Front door is locked so this cache was the absolute perfect time filler. Dad and I feeling our way around it while we wait for a reply to a text - which never came! After finding this sneaky Iitlle bugger we circled the hall and got somebody at the back kitchen to let us in. Thanks for the great cache, nicely done. Log is full so used IF20 and dad was JM for JoyMorgan.

Here for another attempt. A favorite point given for success this time. Thanks squirrel nutcase

08-May-23
Phew, we made a relatively quick find today, with not too many people around. Thanks for placing your cache.

Ms_KR and I were in Auckland for a few days visiting family, and now we are on the trek home. A bit of a late start, so not as many caches today, but it's not all about the numbers. The sky was moody today, lots of cloud cover, with the occaisional rain shower.

Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches.

22-Apr-23

Cyclone Gabrielle forces us to change our plans once we had arrived in Auckland. Instead of a relaxing holiday in the Coromandel, we swapped it for an adventure filled holiday in Rotorua!! We stopped here on our way south and was pleased to see two caches nearby. This ended up being a pretty quick find. TFTC

Found! 22/9/22

18-Sep-22
So excited to get this! Last time I tried there was a huge group of around 8 people swarming over the tractor looking for something lol. I decided to wait and try another day as I wanted to find it myself, not to see where they found it. So last night right on dusk I had another go. I had takeaways to pick up from Tuckers (yummo!!) so had a few minutes to spare. Tbh I did not expect to find it. After looking at previous logs I determined I would have to squat down to look, as kids seemed to slit this cache quite easily. The first side I tried was pointless, but went in from another way and squatted and looked. I saw it straight away as the lowering light made it stand out. Thought I'd be here forever looking lol. So happy to have found this!! TFTC!

It's been a full-on weekend, which started on Friday with me taking my son up to Auckland so that he could fly out on Saturday on his OE. As I type this, he's still on that journey, whilst at the same time I've spent most of today driving back down so that I can go back to work tomorrow.

But of course I couldn't pass up the opportunity to target a few caches to break up my journey. This was one that I had wanted to find, having briefly looked for it once before.
Today I had a better look but I have to admit that it still defeated me.
No doubt I'll be back again at some stage...

18-Jul-22
We were pretty excited when Dad made quick work of this one. Thanks for the challenge and awesome placement .

10-Jul-22
A tricky little hide found on the second attempt (we had a coffee in between).
Seven pairs of eyes made up of fellow cacher skibow1 and some muggle friends. Definitely a case of looking first before leaping!

Youthful eyes of dear daughter spotted this after having a morning coffee nearby. Pleased to have finally got the happy face. Thanks very much for cache.

Thought this little "bugger" was going to get the best of us again! Having set out early for a visit to our daughters to see our newest grandson, we thought we would detour past this one and give it another go since it had been replaced (thank you). Having spent some time going over and over the same section and coming up empty-handed we resorted to some help and even then it took a bit more time, but once we were searching the correct area the cache was quickly located - phew!! Knocked the Bugger off at last!! TFTC

23-Sep-21
Checked and replaced after a couple of DNF logs.

16-Jul-21
I'll have to agree with the cache title, BUGGER a DNF.........

Looked for ages and no luck Sad too well hidden for us

#9701. I have driven through Tirau quite a few times in the past few years and this was the last of the caches I needed to find. The D4.5 rating and size of the cache put me off searching as I am seriously cache blind and it takes me ages to find ones like this. Being time poor on my travels I just don't bother normally. But today I had two willing helpers. Two muggles promised an ice-cream if they could find it. And bugger me after about 5 minutes looking one of them came up trumps. She said "is it possible this could be the cache?" It is very possible indeed. Yay. Found of course in an area I had already spent 3 minutes searching. So pleased to have youthful eyes with me instead of ones that feel opaque searching for caches this size. Signed the logbook and replaced the cache where found. Thanks? squirrel nutcase for hiding it here.

16-Mar-21
We avenged a few North Island DNFs on this trip, but not on this occasion (despite a coffee transfusion at a local cafe, and a lengthy search).
