Day 10 of three weeks winter motorhoming in the upper half of the South Island. Enjoyed cycling on the trails on the outskirts of Westport today and picked up a few caches. Great day for it!This is the closest cache to where we’re staying but we had to bypass it earlier because of the “one way” system. Last one for the day on my way back to base. #4130. TFTC.

Found with NZDi. Today is the fourth day of our Wet Coast adventure and as the weather was supposed to be abysmal we decided to do a road trip to Inangahua Junction to pick up the roadside caches that would be impossible to stop for when towing a caravan. That was the plan... we got as far as our first find of the day and then as we got closer to the next the heavens open up and I got drenched. It would appear that as the warm air mass coming across the Tasman gained altitude it dropped all its moisture. The weather looked better nearer the coast so we changed our plans and headed back.

This was our seventh find of the day and I started to follow the cycle trail be it headed in the wrong direction, so I followed the old road through the long wet grass getting my sandals soaked. Of course once I got nearer to GZ I picked up and followed the cycle trail again and made a quick find. I followed the cycle trail all the way back to the geomobile.

24-Jun-20
Visiting Westport from Welly on a girls trip. Out for a picnic at the beach and some fresh air - a lovely easy walk to this family friendly cache. Hint made for a quick find. TFTC.
The sealed cache container was full of water including the one unsealed plastic bag containing the log. I didn't have any extra self-sealing plastics bags with me to help keep it dry going forward. More waterproofing layers are probably needed as original protective layers seemed to be missing.
TB: Dropped off a travel bug trackable called "Checkmate" - wanting to travel the world. It had been lost since 2011 (found in cache GC31N5G, Wellington NZ). Owner reactivated it a few days after my visit so I could log a "drop". Plse remember to log this "trackable" out in the gc online app if you pick it up.

I have just moved over to the South Island from Australia. Hoping to live and explore the country over the next few years and find a lot of caches on the way. Cheers for the hides.

The storms had rolled in and were hitting us hard. So a lot of the days were now spent in the van hiding away from the he. And when it cleared up we got out and stretched the legs by caching. Thanks.

20-Jul-19
.Wow what a great place and plenty of parking for Zara next time we visit. Started taking the mountain bike trail but backed back to the walking track. Then deviated off that to follow the road which promptly became very swampy so its wet wet feet. Then its backon the cycle track to get to GZ. Tipped out all the water from this swimming pool. Log very wet so arranged a new RITR paper log in a new bag, to keep this one rolling along. Cheers. Returned via the cycle track with no more puddles to traverse. Stopped here for lunch. Great place.

Its off on another geotour this weekend with The Seagnoid, Zara and Toby. We spent last Sunday in Nelson collecting the gemstones from the Museum Heist, so this weekend we are on a Geotour to the Westcoast with The Seagnoid, Zara and Toby, to return the gems. Early Saturday morning we went on another magical tour of Denniston. Great views today just after dawn. Enjoyed a walk along the Kawatiri River Trail.

20-Jul-19
There is a very nice cycleway running around here. At first I thought it was going the wrong direction so we ended up taking the old road. That was a mistake! The road has some very beep puddles, which is okay, as I have gummies. Which is not okay, as I have just discovered one of my gummies has a split. Dammit. Twice now, two manufacturer, but with splits. That's it, last of the cheap gummies for me. Going to get some decent ones next time. Anyway, suddenly we came across the bike track, and followed it to the cache. Followed it back to the car park afterwards, a much faster and easier route that the water-laden 4x4 road.
Encountered mum, walking a miniature horse carrying her 4 yr old daughter. Daughter was having a great time Smile.

Taybeedragon and I headed out to the West Coast to figure out how to return the jewels taken from that big heist at the Teague-Ulmer Museum back into their vault. And I picked the West Coast to do that as there is a cache nearby that gives me the last hidden month for a NZ Jasmer. And on top of all that, it is the 50 year anniversary of the first men on the moon - Happy Moon Landing Day! While the rest of the country was bathed in glorious rain, we were stuck with sunshine and clouds. Oh, well, can't have it all.

#16895 18:22

During our holiday in New Zealand we have visited both the North and the South Island. We saw a lot of highlights of this beautiful country, but there is so much more to see. So many highlights, so many caches! The geocaches showed us a lot of special and interesting places. Sometimes a quick find, sometimes we had to search longer. A few DNF's, but that doesn't matter. We loved New Zealand and we hope to come back some day!

Today we have found the cache "Kawatiri Beach Reserve (West Coast)".

bumandworker, thanks for creating and maintaining this cache!

Greetings from the Netherlands,
de hangijzers

Many thanks to all the COs who helped make our geocaching holiday a great success
We left home early April and returned 21 May 2018. We toured from our home base up to a wedding in North Taranaki then carried on heading south right down through wellington and on down the west coast and back up via the eastern side of the alps some times going around in circles. Our aim was to get as many smiley faces on the puzzle caches that we had solved but of course stopping for many traditionals, multies and others as we went. some time we biked the bike trails or walked but mostly by campervan. we enjoyed the quite back country roads, many of them were metal but we just travelled along slowly going from cache to cache. Most caches were in good condition and I will remark if we thought it needs maintence etc.

04-Apr-18
A nice and quick find after wee walk. Cheers.

Todays plan. drive up to Denniston Plateau, grab as many caches as practible, and go down "The Trudge" to meet Ms KR at the bottom. Mission successful!

Thanks to all the CO's for placing and maintaining these caches. Cheers.

11-Mar-18
Despite being an anti weka cache, it was a quick easy find after walking along a grass track from the road. Incidentally there is now a toilet at the car park. TFTC

10-Feb-18
Took a longer than best route
but soon on the right track.
Just strolling after Buller half marathon this morning !
Thanks

04-Jan-18
Parked up and followed the gps into the bushes and onto a nice little track. Followed that for a while until the gps started going in circles, then started looking for cache. A glance at the right angle indicated a cache and we were soon signing the log. tftc

14-Dec-17
What a great cycleway for the whole family to enjoy.TFtC.

13-Dec-17
A nice introduction to the tracks here - we returned the next day and biked them, discovered we had biked the 'wrong' way soturned around and did the loop again the correct way. Very nice curvy track making the most of the terrain. Were there several weka, or was it just one taking lots of shortcuts to say hello again at the next corner?

13-Dec-17
Some campers setting up nearby. Many don't look self contained and the new toilets are not yet ready. Nice walk to the cache.

09-Dec-17
It's fantastic to see this area being developed the way it is. I really enjoy visits to West Coast beaches even though or maybe because they're so different to our Tasman / Nelson beaches. It looks like at some stage in the near future you'll be able to change the toilet attribute from negative to positive . . . a very fancy new facility is being built near the parking waypoint. Thanks for bringing us here!

09-Dec-17
Beautiful area very impressive.
Arrive at GZ and it was long before we spotted the cache
Thank you bumandworker for the cache and bringing us here

16-Nov-17

Over from Brisbane for a number of weeks "motorhoming" around the South Island with IolantheK [^]
Now on our way from Haast to North for a bit sticking to the coast, grabbing caches between views [^]

Spent the night in the free camp zone and grabbed this one on our walk in the morning. Cache in good condition [^]

TFTC bumandworker Cool

25-Oct-17
Camped here last night in Janene our Jucy van. Whilst the muggle had a lie in I went for a walk along the beach, my goodness what a lot of driftwood here. The tide was out and there was miles of sand before the sea.

Of course there were a couple of caches that had to be found too, I stumbled across this one having worked out the coords for the multi and was wandering around the paths trying to find my way to it. TFTC
