Thank you, good find. Great camouflaged box

Really interesting to come here, never would have realised this reserve was here if it wasn't for the cache! We were on our way back from Kowai Bush when we saw another green icon on our maps and decided to have a look. Cache wasn't in the first spot we looked but found it soon after. Thanks!

30-Mar-24
Another little reserve we wouldn't have known about if it wasn't for geocaching. A quick find here with angelic_kiwi. tftc

24-Aug-23
Another short walk and another quick find by M, even though it was my turn. LOL

24-Aug-23
Last one for today I think. Baahaha. Funny - there is always time one more!

17-Aug-23
Fascinating these reserves that you find while geocaching! Need some sheep in this one to chew the grass!! Found with Lytteltonwitch on a lovely winter's day. TFTC. Cool

17-Aug-23
Took a moment to find but eventually spotted it. It wasn’t quite where Busypaws and I were expecting it to be

11-Aug-23
Another cool place discovered through caching. I appreciate that DoC is involved in this thing of ours.

Cache is all good but I wonder if the ground is the best place for it? Given its proximity to the dead thing, it seems it would be a bit safer inside. It’s a pretty good container and I’d hate to see it go missing.

04-Aug-23
Never knew of this reserve.

15-Jul-23
Found it! Tftc

10-Jul-23
Down in Christchurch for a few days trip and we managed a day out in the mountains to find a few geocaches. Just a brief detour here to pick this one up after going for an oldie "BBQ" further up the road. TFTC Smile

16-May-23
We're working our way East to catch up with family and finding caches as we go. We're getting used again to getting prodded and stabbed by the hedges. We choose the wrong dead one here first. Thank you for the cache.

16-May-23
We decided on a few days in Canterbury caching and visiting family.
This was one of several caches we found as we cached our way eastwards.
Thank you DOCRangiora.

09-Apr-23
After caching between Christchurch and Springfield yesterday, today, I started caching in and around Springfield and thenon my way back to Christchurch. First off, I headed for Kowai Bush to find the caches around here. An interesting listing. Thanks for highlighting the significance of this location. Cache found as per the hint. TFTC, Biggles.

04-Mar-23
Exploring a bit of Springfield and the surrounding countryside today, finding a cache or two along the way. TFTC

09-Jan-23
Found it after a gorgeous horse trek with Chris from Rubicon Valley Horse Treks. Perfect souvenir!

29-Dec-22
A lovely reserve that doesn't see a lot of use going by the length of the grass.
Thanks

After spending the winter woofing on the west coast and the last 3 months in greymouth it's time to head off and start travelling again but not before a couple of search and rescue events in my old stomping ground...
After a weather bomb put pay to my goat pass trip and plan b and c , made the call to stay in oxford for a couple of nights giving me time to grab a few bonus caches...
Rain stopped as I reached porters but the wind is howling through the trees...
Nice quick find ..cache all good..tftc

Another conservancy added to my DOC stats.

A fairly quick find in a small reserve. TFTC

30-Dec-20
Wanted to see at least a tiny bit of Beech forest while in the area, and a bonus being a few caches about. Found without hassle, and the container was in great condition. Thanks for the hide.

Very nice indeed.

Down in Christchurch with the Squirrel, ABCDF4 and eyespyben. During Covid lockdown, we solved a load of puzzles and decided that this would be a good time to visit. We've enjoyed a few days of good weather and seeing the Canterbury countryside. The caches have been in varying states - some good, some not so much. Our time here has been a blast, and we'd like to thank all COs who have made this adventure possible. Thank you and TFTC.

With ABCDF4, eyespyben, and Gap (of Fap and Gap). Logging all finds as Team HRP (Huntly, Rotorua, Papamoa - Our hometowns)... During Covid-19 lockdown, we solved a truck load of puzzles around Christchurch - Canterbury region. No use thrashing the old grey matter for no cause - We decided we should make good on this handiwork...

There are lots of interesting trails and geoart surrounding Christchurch. What you aren’t told is how far flung some of these caches actually are. Some beforehand advice would have been great, so here are some of my notes... You’re welcome!

1. Mobile coverage is patchy, especially in those quiet, rural areas where it was most needed. Saving caches to offline might show that you are prepared and organised...
2. There are many dusty metal roads on the trails. The car will get messy, and your hair will feel like cardboard at the end of the day...
3. Suitable clothing and footwear are essential. You will climb in and out of hedges, gorse, and other rough stuff. You might get scratched, cut to shreds, and bleed a lot. It’s not advised to wear your brand new jacket on the day...
4. Take lots of food and drink. You’ll probably be head down, tail up and not realise you haven’t eaten until late afternoon. There are very few shops or gas stations out there...
5. Make sure that you secure keys and wallet and know where these are placed for easy retrieval. A full box of pens might be useful too, especially if you’re inclined to free some into the wild...
6. Know the difference between left and right, and north, south, east, and west. Turning right and heading north will not get you to South Christchurch quickly.
7. Look with girl’s eyes rather than boys eyes... Some caches haven’t been found in a while and you might have to get down on your knees to pray.
8. Always be prepared for misleading hints. This is what turns simple caches into D5/T5 hides... “Head height” could mean the cache is positioned at your toes.
9. Have a sense of humour and like the people you go caching with. It’s going to be a very long day, and you might want to hurt someone during the journey...
10. Make sure you can operate your phone/device and it doesn’t crash when you most need it...
11. Learn to cut and paste logs because you’re going to repeat this function so often when logging all of your finds.
12. Above all else, have fun and be kind...

No time to waste today - We each had caching jobs to do, and our day was mostly planned... At least we can say we saw the Lord's Bush... There were a few possible hiding spots, but we hit on the correct one straight away... Thanks DOC Rangiora and TFTC.

After puzzle solving in the Canterbury region along with ABCDF4 we were invited to join Fap (from Fap & Gap) and Squirrel Nutcase to a week long caching adventure in the Canterbury area. With flights and accommodation booked were off, all met up in ChCh. and many hard dusty Kms travelled and many caches found, I think the Squirrel has said it all in his brief. Many thanks for the placements and Cos for bringin us to the very pleasant areas we travelled in to your region

Went for a walk at Kowhai bush, on leaving, suddenly remembered I had the Geochache app on my phone so this happened to be the nearest Cache. Nice container, lovely bush.

Lovely bush, thanks

19-Jun-20
Really fun looking for this cache, my brother didn’t want to come with us but he did anyway.

29-May-20
Love forest walks so after snag and tagging this cache just had to explore a bit further. Cheers.

Friday today, we explored from Rangiora to Lake Lyndon

Its Queens Birthday weekend and The Seagnoid, Zara and I are heading out of town for a long weekend to Arthurs Pass, via Kaikoura. Had a fantastic weekend, seeing lots of new places, limestone formations, amazing views, awesome beech forest walks, but getting nowhere fast. Bloody cold at times with -3deg frosts but thankfully the snow stayed on the top of the highest mountains.. Enjoyed driving back via Lake Brunner, Murchison. An awesome few days exploring.

29-May-20
Generally I have not been impressed with DoC's caches, which is fair enough - they were placed by people who are not geocachers. However DoC Rangiora are a cut above the rest, and it is not just a fluke - I have found one or two others on this trip, and they are just as good. Nice container, great little reserve, well done. Gets a fav. I noticed the reserve is not marked on the maps, I will add it in a few days.

Taybeedragon and I are on a five day extended Queen's Birthday weekend. Happy birthday marm! The plan was to cache the Arthur's Pass route, from Rangiora to Lake Buller. You would think four days was enough to do the 211 kilometers, but we didn't even manage the 130 to Arthur's Pass village before we had to pull the pin Monday lunchtime for the drive back to Blenheim. But on the way we saw some amazing views, strange geology, weird amounts of ice in the puddles, ice on the inside of our windscreen - it was that cold. Caves, wonderful beech forests, rather a lot of bridge barriers and even a cache or few. And there was blisters, sliding down icy grassy hills on our bums (what fun!) and rather a lot of walking. Many thanks to all the cache owners that made this such an amazing trip.

Did the walk then came back for cache. Don't let the well-groomed path to track fool you. The track is wild and wonderful. Had fantails and bellbirds laughing at us as we were attacked by wildberries and thistles in several places. My kind of rustic track but may be uncomfortable in a few places for little ones.

08-Jun-19
A couple were just getting out of their car as I approached so I continued on a bit further down the road till they were well on their way and out of sight. Nice quick find but needed to do a few running repairs on the string. TFTC # 13,874

Like this one. Very clever

I was surprised to see a torch still in this hide. The batteries are flat but they are great torches to carry in the car or your bag. I got one in a Conservation week DOC cache down Leeston way a long time ago. A good hide. Thanks! #3103

24-Nov-17
Thanks for the cache!

21-Oct-17
Camping at the gliding club site for the long weekend but the weather isn't cooperating with flying. Decided to go looking for some caches instead.

17-Jun-17
Awesome spot- cool to learn about the bush and how rare it is. Walked right through the bush through swampy parts and climbed over a few fences. Easy find, no need to go off the path.

10-Jun-17
Nice find after a trip to the Rubicon horse trekking. Swapped a sticker for a piece of beach glass from Taylors Mistake. Tftc

This had been a day in the planning, and a day to look forward to for quite a while!! I took the day off motherhood, left the baby girl with daddy, and headed out to go find some caches - heaps & heaps of caches! - with my mum. Trying to get closer to knocking out as many of those within 80km of home as possible. Not too bad, as I think we found 51 in the end! Well, 51 for me, and a few less for mum. Plus the weather mostly held out!

TFTC!! Smile

14-May-17
A short wander with the kids in here, they had fun looking all around but to no avail - they are both too short! Cheers, took the TB along.

#13119. We enjoyed this cache; interesting info in the cache page, good coordinates, and a nice hide. Well done DOCRangiora. TFTC.

01-Oct-16
After a couple of weeks of grey and often drizzly weather, it was great to finally see the sun again, so StreetWalker and I decided to have a drive to Kowai Bush to find a few caches.
The reason behind the cache name became clear as we neared GZ! I didn't see the cache until I looked from another angle - by which stage SW had already seen and retrieved it. Nice hide. Thanks for bringing me here and TFTC.

04-Sep-16
Ready to go.

25-Aug-16
Wil be up and running again on 5th sept.

Out and about on a Mad Tuesday night Mission with KarmaReprint chasing down some eggy FTFs and any others in the area. Nice quiet spot at night. Quickly cornered the cache; signed it and moved on. Nice one. Cheers.

03-May-16
Another DOC cache under the belt. A quick find in the dark. Cheers.

I was just settling in for the night, after a dinner and movie date with Ms KR. Got a text from Team Gaters to see if I was free for a mission and well, yes I was. So off we went into the night up to Kowai Bush, Oxford and home again. A great way to pass the time!

Thanks to the CO's for the hides. Cheers.

01-May-16
JDScout and I planned a drive out to Springfield. We were planning a cachehunt. This was our sixth find on this trip. It was such a nice spot and a clever hide.

Quick find, didn't know about this track, have been to Kowhai Bush before. TFTC.

26-Mar-16
If it wasn't for geocaching I would never have known about this reserve. That is one of the things I most like about geocaching - it takes me to interesting places. DOC seems to have a long term re-planting project on the go judging by all the groupings of little trees that have been recently planted. I could hardly hear myself think when visiting the cache - there was a conventicle of magpies meeting nearby and all were in full voice.

20-Feb-16
Thanks DOC for an interesting cache in a new area for us. TFTC

04-Feb-16
I was fortunate enough to be able to squeeze an 11 day holiday out of two leave days!! I headed out west to find some caches, see some sights, and relax before the madness of the semester hits. The weather was unbelievably good, only a bit of a storm over Arthur's Pass on the first day, otherwise hot and sunny. I found a great variety of caches, drive by's, walks, hikes, even a power trail. Thank you to all the CO's for their great hides!!!

05-Jan-16
Enjoyed the bike ride on quiet country roads, love the info DOC.

06-Dec-15
Quick find. TFTC

29-Nov-15
Well done DOC;---we would never have come here to such a significant remnant if it weren't for caching. And absolutely no one else around. Thanks and a fav from us.

22-Nov-15
Found it. Thanks for the cache.

04-Nov-15
Hooray! Another DoC Rangiora cache and another reserve I didn't know. It was raining on and off on the way out, but stopped just long enough for me to make the find and pop it back. An 'aha!' moment when I spotted it.
TFTC Cool

03-Nov-15
On an impromptu drive around North Canterbury today, mainly to pick up this DOC cache and the other one out this way, before the competition ends. This was one of the few stops on a day where I was planning to find a whole lot more, by it got cut short by rain. TFTC (2587)

01-Nov-15
After completing the DOCArthur'sPass Challenge, we stopped here on our way home and grabbed this one. Never knew this bush was here, thanks so much for bringing us here. (Now to try and complete the DOCRaniora one Smile )

24-Oct-15
After finding all the Avoca Track Caches,we did a detour in here on the way home. But Lordy Lordy we had forgot to log the Cords into the GPS...DUH....Luckily we both had rememberd the Road's Name and the Hint,so just drove along until we found the Road and saw the Reserve Sign, and phew..it was then quickly found..Nice hidey Hole.TFTH

Heading to Christchurch for the MEGA and was surprised that the FTF here was still up for grabs. A nice quick find then we had to get the cache unstuck to find out if we were first or not (oh the suspense!) A nice informative well written cache. Thanks for the cache Smile
