Logs
After being scooped up at a conference all weekend I felt like a bit of a bush walk. My introduction to Australia was the Shoalhaven and coming back to this spot reminded me how much I love this type of bush. I saw some familiar birds and plants. Quick find at GZ. The logbook got damp and most of the pages are stuck together. I managed to peel some open and start a new page. TFTC and the view.
Great location. Had a bit of a search, then read some previous logs which helped us with our find. Tftc
First thought will have to climb down
But glad decided to check the upper level first

Apologies for the late log.
With today being my birthday, naturally I decided that a day of caching on the coast would be much more enjoyable than a day spent at work! Unfortunately geo mate SueDan83 had to pull out at the last minute, but Sensible Sis and I jumped in the Meritonnn geo-mobile and headed down to Helensburgh/Stanwell Tops. It was a cracking day, with some great walks, great views, great caches and great company!
After completing the nearby Cracktacular cache, I could not resist the opportunity to look for a 20 year old Team Chaos cache! So we began to make our way further along the trail and took a slight shortcut until we reached the cliff top. Now began the dilemma... Is it up here or down there?! A dodgy looking rope leading down seemed to taunt us.... After consulting the hint and previous logs I felt more confident where to look. After a bit of scrambling around I finally found a suspicious looking spot that seemed to fit the hint. A little bit more awkward scrambling and getting a bit scratched up and I had eyes on the prize!
So interesting to see the evolution of this one, having previously been a multi in the early days! And whatever happened to Grimble Grumble?! And where is the Ginger Loon these days?! Ahhh... So many questions! But so awesome to be able to log this golden oldie! Cheers Team Chaos, wherever you are!

Out on some socially distanced caching on some really unloved trails at Stanwell tops after a reasonably long lockdown induced hiatus. This one has been on the to do list for ages and today was the day!
Parked in Stanwell Tops and after conquering Cracktacular! We came hunting for this retro cache. Hint was appropriate and helpful. Terrain rating was appropriate, no need to use ropes or to go near any cliff edges. Geokids were safe as long as we kept a close eye on them.
After hunting around for 'hundreds of years' in the wrong spot (according to geokid) we tried a new spot and came up with the goods. Amazing to see it with original logbook intact. The Rats were claiming FTFs way back then and still do so 19 years later on our hides!
Other highlight here was finding an Echidna in the bush here. Amazing to see it fossicking about. Beautiful creature.
Thanks for the cache, and for paving the way for the future, Team Chaos!

It’s been a while since BarberBlackSheep and I went out on an day adventure, with no soccer for me today I made perfect use of this amazing weather and set off on a Sunday funday adventure.
Had fun climbing around on the rocks, love natures playground! Went to the wrong elevation at first but backtracked and was soon on top of GZ. TFTC

After climbing down a Rope with adventure-fox and passing a lot of rock climbers we discovered that you don’t need to use the rope and that we were indeed on the wrong level
Quickly re adjusted our positioning and found it quickly after TFTC!

Lovely to find a geocache this old still with its original log book. Started at the top and after reading the clue decided to get to a lower level. Great scope for hiding a cache down there but in the end that turned out to be too low. Readjusted our height and it was an easy find after that. Thanks for the cache!
Grabbed this one after getting Cracktacular on our afternoon walk. Almost went down a rope but then saw that there was no need to head off the cliff and went a little further along - got stuck in another 'crack' and soon had the CIH. TFTCM
On arrival at Stanwell Park station, Ms Atalanta and I decided to look for this cache.
At first we seemed to be going in the wrong direction. Then for a while we were going in the wrong direction. Eventually we had to go off track to reach GZ, but persistence paid off and we ended up with CIH.
No sign of any gnomes though.

Found with Loci612 during the OzGeomuster The Gong 2019. Signed the Logbook DSD. Found over 200 caches during the Mega. No bad at all. I also won 2nd in the Battle of the Labs for the Ducky Dip Lab Cache.
Today team novo x3 on day two of our OZGM2019 mega area tour, doing some select caches from the Stanwell Tops and Thirroul areas, then down to Kembla Grange to meet up with friends for a group assault on one of the Adrenalin Addiction caches, and then finishing the day on some more Lighthouse caches. It was a great way to start the school holidays!
What a wonderful walk through this little forest up in Stanwell Tops. The first time I ever came to Sydney (which was in 1993), our destination was down into town here for a bite to eat before heading off to the Blackstump festival at Cataract where the mega is currently held. This place brought back a lot of memories as I hadn't been back since. Anyway, after backtracking once I'd realised we'd taken a trail which was going too low, we made our way to the right area where we were soon off the trail to GZ where a quick search uncovered the well hidden sizable cache. We really did hide these things much better back when they were "stashes"! We dipped a few TBs including our Jasmer Challenge Coin. TFTC, Team Chaos.

I have only ever done two Team Chaos caches before, but both of them are easily in my top 10 Australian finds for location! (GCDD0) (GCCA6)
So when I spotted another old 2002 cache whilst in Wollongong I decided it was a must grab!
After visiting a T4 nearby we trekked up to this cache. Once again an awesome location for a cache hide, well hidden too and an original log! You absolutely killed cache hiding in the early years of caching in Australia and must have set a high bar, well done!
Thanks Team Chaos!

Quick and easy find. Also saw some rock climbers nearby who had stumbled upon another cache in the area.

It's Good Friday and we are staying home all weekend, but decided to head out for a walk. DH and I had our reception at Tumbling Waters back in 2006 and it was nice to sneak a peak over the fence and reminisce at how care free life was back then. It was a delight finding this old cache and the original log. Our path to GZ wasn't quite as easy as the one we found back to the track. Bringing geo 4 yr old was a little nerve wracking but thankfully he was been brought up with the geocaching lifestyle (I even found a cache on his EDD with him still in my belly). The log is damp but still alright, beautiful spot. TFTC. Left TB
I was heading down the coast today and decided to check this one off my list of to-do caches.
After reading a couple of the previous comments i ended up parking at the end of Stonehaven Rd and worked my way along the track.
After getting close enough on the track to the GZ i headed into the bush and passed a guy who had set up camp about 100m north of the cache.
At the GZ i checked around close to the coords for about 10 mins before relocating to the spot recommended by some of the other finders and was able to grab the cache pretty quickly.
A great spot. Thanks for leading me here.

I love how geocaching can really surprise you when you least expect it. After dropping my son off for work experience, I had a vague plan to find a couple of caches in the shire. I ended up finding two old school caches to help fill some holes in my Jasmer grid and another qualifier for the D2,4T Challenge - all up, 3 excellent adventures.
This cache was on my list and without doing any research, figured I'd park at Stanwell Park station. Of course it was all uphill from there but pleasant enough on a cool'ish morning. Followed some faint trails for the last section that got me nice and high. From there, I checked out a few spots before making the find. After signing the log, followed the cliff line for a better view before heading to Cracktacular!

Continued on from Cracktacular to find this Gnome behaving more like a Dwarf. The views from here were awesome. TFTC Team Chaos
Found it! Approached from the highside track. Got a little nervous as got to the cliff edge. Carefully looked around for 10 mim with no success then looked through past logs for anithet 10 before realising cache was immediarely below me! TFTC!
After a perfect day at the beach of Stanwell park our target is a gnome !!
We started from the railway station and walked up up up. At the end a bit of bush bashing. We found the cache, the view but not the Gnome !!

Lovely day for a bush bash and the views at the end! Wow! Left trackable. Tftc
This cache caused us a lot of trouble. First, the etrex tried to take us over the edge of the cliff, then it settled down at a spot with a lot of possibilities. We searched under lots of things and were getting nowhere. Then we sat down to recover and had lunch. By the way, nice views from here, thanks. Then back to searching. We widened our search field, but were still failing. Then a move across to a different spot, suddenly revealed the cache. Why didn't we look there earlier? Such is caching. TFTC
Pacgirl and I flew up to Sydney to visit Snoopy for a few days. The trip included sightseeing, socializing, and just a 'little' caching . Sometimes my geopartners got a little impatient - they're obviously more muggles than they are cachers . Today I set out on my own with time to tackle some of the more challenging caches around the RNP and Stanwell.
I enjoyed this short hike to a great GZ. I overcomplicated the search which at times was a T5 for me. Finally I found it in a much more accessible place than I had initially been searching. Quite an enjoyable day out here around Stanwell Tops.
Thanks for the great cache, Team Chaos.

Out caching at Stanwell Tops, what a beautiful location. Of course I checked all the wrong locations before I realised I put my bag next to it. TFTC!
Headed over from the Cracktacular cache which was a nice leisure walk through the forest. Got to within 100m via the tracks and then circled all way around it but didn't get any closer. After giving up on finding a track to GZ we trampled our way through the fairly open bush and soon ended up in a likely area.
First we spotted a TB just laying on the rocks alone which told us the cache had to be nearby and sure enough the old stalwart was still there tucked away.
I'm guessing the views here were a lot nicer in 2002 but we did see the view further along the cliff line which was incredible!
As we were heading back to the car, I was reminded that I no longer had my drink bottle which I must have left at GZ here, so back we went found the bottle and left again.
Thanks for the adventure and hide!

Had the pleasure of going with a mate from goulburn to cronulla for a drive via mossvale/wollongong up the grand pacific drive through the royal national park to the shire. Had a few stops along the way as he knew i have a geocaching addiction to feed.
Only a handful of caches today but as always enjoyed familar and new sights especially north of stanwell tops.

Took me a lot longer than I thought once reaching GZ. A lot of structures in the area that could have easily hidden a cache. Finally found it after half hour or so. Beautiful peaceful area. TFTC
Ha ha, so the trick is don't climb up the steep hill from the wodi wodi track! There's an easier way! Getting out had me in stitches of how easy it was.
We had a bit Trouble accessing this one at first and then understood that that there just wasn't any Trail, so went bush bashing. Once at the Location, the Cache was found quickly. Great view and rocks! Thanks for bringing us here! In: TB.
On a morning caching expedition with PDU, we bush bashed our way from the track to the edge of the escarpment. When close to GZ, PDU decided to look low while I looked high. After a couple of minutes I spied the SPOR and there it was - a 14 year old gnome! And a nice big one in good condition. We signed the log book and I dropped off a TB.
After replacing the cache we admired the fantastic views towards the ocean. Spectacular! Thanks for bringing us to the beautiful spot. TFTC.

OCW Brewmaker and this was #2 find for me today and 1st for Brewmaker.
I have been meaning to to the Wodi Wodi track for some time and this was a tasting today. Thanks for placing the cache and showing this location for fantastic views.
After signing the log we headed of to the next cache.
On return to the cars I had noticed I had lost my sunglasses and had to backtrack to see if I could find them. Luckily, where I had hunted below Brewmaker I found them. Scripted Sunglasses are expensive to replace.
Thanks Team Chaos for this old cache (placed the year I started).

Great hide!! Took a little bit to find we were fooled, don't go too low or too high!
Also could do with some maintenance, water getting through the holes in the lid, cheers!
Was up in this part of the escarpment with SES VR training so decided to duck out to log this cache. After an already eventful morning extracting a guard spider from my own premises, I tend to be more fearless in orange.
After a quick search near the cliff edge, keeping one eye on the GPS and another on the brush, geocache was quickly located and signed whilst enjoying a magnificent view. Quickly headed back to training. TFTC Team Chaos!! Love the location!

Parked up at Stanwell Top and walked 'across'. Mostly. Took a wrong turn to "The Beach" and ended up at the correct South ordinate but realised I had to regain altitude. Once the correct track was followed, cache was in hand in short order. This has to be one of the biggest gnomes I've seen
Didn't see a pen, so dropped one in.
Brilliant view Team Chaos.

Must have looked in all the hardest to get to places first... And got a leach! Took what looks to be like a small jar of (canola?) Seeds.. I only think that because I worked for GrainCorp for 2 months and saw literally hundreds of tonnes of it. I left a nice new metallic pen - dads business details are on the side but you can ignore those..
Came to the area on a mega caching day - and was hoping to get all the rock hopping ones. Didn't have any control over the time I could be in the area, and arrived to find it exactly full tide. Oh well, what better way to fill in the time by climbing up some mountains
Returned to this great spot today with Aries44. Whilst he searched high and low for the cache, I sneakily retrieved the log and found a pleasant spot to read through the many years of entries. When he finally discovered what I was doing I took pity and gave him a small hint, after which he rapidly had cache in hand. As for his phone, well I'll leave that part of the story to him.
Great to return to this beautiful spot

Out and about with Mr D and heading towards Picnic on the Rocks. This one was un-found by me so we diverted to take a look. Mr D had already conquered this one so he relaxed and admired the view while I scrambled around looking in some very likely places. At one stage I looked up to see a logbook being waved at me. So back up I went and searched some more. Its a regular so it can't be that hard to find...ah! Mr D then gracefully passed me the log so I could do the signing. TFTC Team Chaos.

At a recent event Team Canary said he was lining up for an attempt at Tangles Train Spotting being a 2001 cache as he is closing in on all NSW 2001 active caches. We were keen to join in as like doing old school caches plus had heard of the Tangles stories even though he left the game before we joined. We wondered if there would be power for the blender or nude Swedish back packers frolicking about. While the lead up days had been very wet we still decided to try as it might be a while before we both could return. Team Canary had a tip on the route to take which we see us pick up some extra caches of which there was also a 2002 cache but before we headed there we tried to get to the parking waypoint for Divine ArmChair which has some very heavy gates on it and some unwelcoming signs. The detour did mean we were in the car when the rain hit again as opposed to being on the track. We headed to Gnome first and well and truly discovered the leeches or more to the point they have discovered us. The cache was soon found and the signing complete. TFTC. Next we followed the track out to Picnic on the Rocks and the leeches were still certainly in the picnic mode. We all missed the hide on the first pass, took in the great views but found it on the second. Signing done and we double back to head down to join the Woddi Woddi Track.towards the main target. TFTC. At this stage 2 of the part headed for Stanwell Station to avoid the leeches as it was only 200m away.
The track deteriorated a little with some wash outs, a rope decent a couple of water crossing and some up and downs plus a slip and slide. The trip up seemed to just keep going up and then moved further from GZ. At a listing of T2 they certainly had a different assessment back then. Once up top and taking in the views we followed the geo trail to GZ. A bit of monkey work was required and the cache was found (no power point of Swedish back packers spotted. A check of the log saw a continuing theme of no physical log from Jim&Marissa (see photo). Now with our names in the log and the major climb done we traversed the top of the cliff for other nearby 3 TFTC. Caved away was next with Team Canary doing the retrieval honours. More great views here TFTC. We then pushed on to Divine Armchair. We kept looking for a little track out to this one to avoid the heavy scrub bash and eventually found a lighter section of bush. This one took a little bit to find and another spot with great views. TFTC. It was only then a short way to Bush Garden. Initially we went too high and then we dropped the correct level and both closed in on the hide. With the signing done we took a different way out and back to our starting spot. Not as scenic but at least the elevation change was minimal. TFTC. Great trip to do with caching friends.

A while ago I put feelers out about doing these caches this week. I had a few interested parties, but only Bella at Waggy joined me and my two sons on the journey.
We parked at Stanwell Tops and had a fairly easy walk to near here. Or it would have been if the leeches hadn't begun to attack.
Then it was a short scrub bash to GZ. I approached the right spot from the right angle to make the easy find of the large container. After admiring the views a little, for fear of leeches we continued on.

Couldn't locate it. Searched everywhere twice, under the cliff, on top of the cliff. Geokid and Geodad give this experience the thumbs down : (

We went to Helensburgh today... wow! Here are some very awesome caches! Thank you for this cache, really enjoyed finding this! (:
After arriving at the train station here last night for the first time in my life, I discovered I had no phone coverage, even with Telstra. It was right on dark, and thus to get to the conference centre, I decided to head up the track. I had my torch in one hand and my suitcase in the other and thank God I didn't decide to try to find this cache en route!
I wandered back this morning and there is no doubt the recent storms have changed the landscape significantly: hundreds of branches and other bits of debris all over the place. I steered myself more or less along established paths until I could see no better option and went bush for the last 80m or so I think.
I came across some clothes under sheeting at S34 13.406 E150 58.673 but didn't have time to investigate further; someone else may like to.
Soon I was at the cliffs... Whoa! Watch your step!
After carefully making my way along, I found the cache safe and sound in a great spot. There are a couple of tiny holes in the lid, but inside is dry. It's always great to find a cache as old as this so TFTC and long may it remain. FP from me for the experience.

Today been Australia Day we wanted to go out door and do some bush caches, what a gem this place is , the walks here are amazing and been rewarded with a cool day and a cache in the end. TFTC and bringing us here. This is our 9,600 th find.
Can I rant and say that a lot of bush walking tracks are poorly advertised?! I wasn't sure where to find the head of the Wodi-Wodi track suffice to say I knew I had to cross the train line. So I figured the most obvious place to do it would be at the train station. I saw a random track behind the train shelter that looked more like something some kids had formed when they want to hide from the adults and then all of a sudden, boom, there is the sign for the track, completely hidden by the train shelter. This was such a nice bush walk and I plan to come back, but I still can't wrap my head around the fact that the trail head was so hidden! I felt like I was going for a sneaky smoke behind the toilet sheds when I found the trail!
Anyway, rant over, it was a really nice walk to this cache. It was tough in the heat and I was really struggling, geodad was having none of it and powered on way ahead of me! At GZ we spent quite some time exploring before finally finding the cache. The previous logs were red herrings for sure
Anyway, my rant has made this cache log a bit long so I will stop typing. Thanks for bringing us here. Highlight of the day

Understanding the difference between "Below"& "Beneath" when it comes to geocaching can sometimes a challenge around a cliff edge. My only memories from the photo gallery ended up being spoiler photos so consequently this one took a bit longer than to find than usual. Was about to give up when "Beneath" it was. Felt a bit of a "prawn" so left an appropriate animal card for the next finder.
Well this was the cache of the day!
With eldest and wife getting tired and stopping to rest about 100m from the cache, youngest and I spent a fair bit of time and skin crawling about looking for this one. As attention spans and patience diminished I had to use Father's Day privilege for a little more looking time. A few red herrings in the logs made life a fair bit more interesting than they might otherwise have been!
In the middle of a call to the great Mr Hancock vainly looking for a clue (how can you NOT find something the size of a bucket) finally saw a likely spot which proved to be the cache. Unfortunately did not have time to read back through the logs for some caching history, having used up the family patience quota for the day.
All in all a fun search in a great spot.

Found today with Wazza9, after attending the 10K event, thought a walk in the bush would be good to do and see if we could find the Gnome. Last time Wazza9 looked for this one, I sat in the car, so now that I have a caching name, I went in. No leeches today a quick find. No trackable, I have advised the CO of the trackable to list it as missing. TFTC
TFTC Team Chaos,
I was in a rush last time I visited and over guessed the location without success.
Today, I was in the area for The Rats 10k Event and decided that it was time to find another historic cache. This time I had no problem locating the container which is standing up to time.
What a surprise to see the first entry in the log was SES Rats (now The Rats) and to read so many other historic entries.
Visited a group of trackables to take in the filted views down to Stanwell Park.

A great adventure in the wet. Though I recieved more water from the trees and scrub than the clouds.
Creeks were high for crossing.
Back at the car I found about 20 hitch hiking leeches.

We were in the area with a bit of time up our sleeves so why not try for a cache, having read the recent log about the homeless person who maybe encountered on the trail I was a little bit apprehensive as I was going in for the hunt on my own while the other half of CATONY waited in the car........she didn`t have the right shoes for a bush bash & we felt fairly safe as we had a radio each so coud keep in touch & let her know everything was alright. When I was probably only a 100 or so metres away from GZ I passed a cave with someones worldly possessions inside & not much further on here he was sitting up reading a book........what to do, what to do? Oh bugger it I thought, I just wandered along towards him & when close by wished him a "good morning", he didn`t seem too worried & we actually had a brief chat, he seems to be a harmless bloke but I can understand he`d be off putting, particulary for a woman on her own.
Back to the hunt & GZ was soon located & had the decent sized cache in hand in no time, log duly signed & whilst there are a few trees blocking the view you can still get a glimpse of the ocean. After signing the log & looking through it at the very old entries it was time to head back to the car, didn`t bother trying to bypass the bloke camping, just walked up, exchanged pleasantries again & continued on, the round trip taking about 45 minutes all up at a guess, great to find such an old cache.

Well a long long time since I visited this one.
Cache is still safely tucked away in its hidey hole. Container a bit worse for wear but still serviceable.
The view is not quite what it used to be, but still pretty good.
Cheers

I am just glad that we did this cache on a whim, and hadn't read blackpanda24's log until I was at GZ.
Luckily the 'gnome' wasn't at home, as I would have reacted in exactly the same way. Adding to the situation I had now though, was the fact that we had a geoteen on her own a little ways from the cliff edge. I dashed off to reassure myself that she was ok and coaxed her to join us NOW!
Is it the female mind that has us thinking this way? I am sure my partner would not have flinched had the 'gnome' been around a corner and would even have had a conversation had the other party been up for it!
We did very much enjoy our walk out here and the surrounding area, a beautiful chunk of bush, BUT it reminded me of why I don't bushwalk on my own and an experience like blackpanda24's may have ended my bush caching, which would be sad as they are the ones I love best, specially at this time of year.

WARNING: its a long log but worth a read.
Yeh I found it. I also found the gnome. He seems to have returned home much to my discomfort. He owns an iPod, reads novels and smokes pot...
There I was, happily walking along the path, excited to have the chance to use my new gumboots that I had in the car. Then, as i drew near GZ (about 150m) I stopped to have a look at the compass. A very out of place smell caught my attention. I wondered why this "scent" would be up here so glanced a look around to see if I had company. Saw no one so continued on. As I rounded the corner, there he was, 60 something, Jesus beard, sitting in a deck chair under a rock cave in the middle of the path. I froze. He was reading a book (no I didn't stop to ask what he was reading). Thankfully, he also had earphones in and didn't hear me approach. I must of just been out of his peripheral vision because he didn't spot me. I stood still for 30 seconds before forcing my legs to step back.
I'm sure fear made me do what I did next. Instead of turning back to my car, I took off up the hill, towards the cache. Following no path I went bush, thinking I'd go up and around the caveman. After finding the cache I then had to find my way back. Lucky I'm from the bush so I'm fairly good at retracing my steps. He was still there reading.
Was is worth it? No. As a young, often solo female cacher, this wasn't enjoyable. Scary old men out in the bush (he might have been a lovely old man, just unnerving in my position). The cache is dangerous to get to and the views aren't that great...the trees block most of it. Sorry guys, but I did not like this cache at all.
