@Davidwazza and I travelled to the Northern Territory from Adelaide for a 2.5 weeks road trip holiday in the infamous black jeep. We took a route through Port Augusta, Woomera, Roxby Downs, Andamooka, and then drove the Oodnadatta Track via Coward Springs, William Creek (including a Lake Eyre scenic flight), Oodnadatta, and Marla. It was then onwards to visit Uluru (Ayers Rock), Kata Tju?a (Olgas), Kings Canyon, and then drove the Red Centre Way aka. Mereenie Loop Road to see the Tjoritja (West MacDonell Ranges), calling in to see the various highlights. We then stayed a few nights in Alice Springs, and included a day trip to see the East MacDonell Ranges, before heading home in a more direct route through Palm Valley, Owen Springs Reserve, Henbury Craters, and the Lambert Centre of Australia, and finally Coober Pedy.

Today, we continued our trip, from Oodnadatta, passing through Marla, Kulgera, the NT Border crossing, a quick detour through Mintabie, and ending our day in Erldunda!

Jesswrigley and I travelled to the Northern Territory from Adelaide for a 2.5 weeks road trip holiday. We took my jeep through Port Augusta, Woomera, Roxby Downs, Andamooka, and then drove the Oodnadatta Track via Coward Springs, William Creek (including a Lake Eyre scenic flight), Oodnadatta, and Marla. We then stayed a few nights in Alice Springs, and included a day trip to see the East MacDonell Ranges. It was then time to turn around to head to South Australia, and in doing so, we visited the Palm Valley, and made the 4WD detour through Owen Springs Reserve (an excellent shortcut that wasn’t too technically difficult), calling into the Henbury Craters, and the Lambert Centre of Australia. Our final stop was Coober Pedy, and we really enjoyed checking out the various dugouts and mines.

Today, we continued our outback trip travelling from Oodnadatta along the Oodnadatta Track to Marla, and then on to Erldunda. This section of the Oodnadatta Track was probably the longest with minimal sights along the way, and the worst maintained with large sections of deep and wide corrugations. It was nice to arrive back at bitumen at Marla, and we then decided to visit Mintabie before the town ceased to exist. A deserted town indeed. We then continued along the main highway to enter the Northern Territory where our speed could be increased to 130 km/hr passing through Kulgera.

Finding a geocache in Mintabie as part of this LGA was one of my side objectives of this trip. It appeared that the town was still open, but how much longer to visitors was anyone's guess. The access road in wasn't the best maintained with frequent sections of corrugations, but once within the town's limits, and after driving the other geocache here in Mintabie, we drove to this geocache. We noted the previous other DNFs, and I had notes from a recent Finder to where the cache should have been. After a detailed and thorough search, no cache could be found, so it was presumed to be missing/muggled. Consequently, I put out a replacement cache like-for-like to where it should have been. Thanks Jillianjiggs for the cache placement and ongoing maintenance. It is a shame that this town will be no more.

Found It!
A quick find here in this strange little town. Very quiet here today. Kind of sad that the town is going to be wiped off the map in a couple months time...

Flew up to Alice Springs for a conference, then met up with e.gregory1 for an epic road trip through the West MacDonnell Ranges, Mereenie Loop Rd, Kings Canyon, Luritja Rd, Ernest Giles Rd, Finke Gorge NP, Hermannsberg, Larapinta Drive, back to the Alice then down the Stuart Hwy to Adelaide, with awesome sights and great caches along the way. Thanks for the cache Jillianjiggs!

After spending four days travelling up on my own from Adelaide, I met up with FeatherWaite in Alice Springs for a few days of travelling around and caching.

We visited various places in the West Macdonnells, including Hugh Gorge, then went out to Kings Canyon, up the Finke Gorge track to Hermannsburg, into Palm Valley, then back to Adelaide, taking a week in all. We saw, and camped in some fantastic places, although the late September weather was a little warm!

We detoured into Mintabie on our way home for a look and a couple of caches. It would be a tough life mining opals out here!

Thanks Jillianjiggs for the cache.

We decided to take this little diversion from the highway to Mintabie to find this cache. It was quite easy to find and all was done properly before putting it back into place. Many thanks to Jillianjiggs for replacing this cache recently and for bringing us into this opal town. The homes and businesses made from stone look really beautiful. We enjoyed our visit.

Having just experienced the good view, a lucky pick up of a very pretty stone whilst following the snail trail back to the car, a great cold squash with Levanka and Chris in the pub - fantastic ladies - go and meet them, it was time to go and tackle the cache.
Well I reckon I wasted a good hour looking for this cache. Started at the GZ and gradually widened the search area and still couldn't find it. Lots of rubbish, but not in the mood to tidy up after the local community.
Rather sad but happy enough with the afternoon's experience, though Pa whom I had left behind in the caravan in the park in Marla was getting a bit concerned as I was away a lot longer than he expected.

Found a pile of rocks sort of nearish to listed coordinates but no cache. The listed coordinates are right on the memorial, and there is no-where within 3m that a 'small' can be hidden. We will stand corrected, but we think this maybe gone. Sad
