It's always the fireplaces that survive my guess is their used to me a house here..I saw no no trespassing signs so I found a way over only the one snag Officially my first cache find in Canberra
A quick little detour to this cluster of three caches today. I parked directly outside the Telstra concrete box, maneuvered myself over the fence and enjoyed a quick find at GZ with this cache in very good condition.
I wonder if this old fireplace was something to do with the travelling stock reserve? Either way it's always great to find these random historical items.
Thanks, Tankengine!

An election raid on the nation's capital with purplepeopleater and bella at waggy. After collecting one of the team from the airport, we headed south to grab a variety of caches near Williamsdale. This was a good one to get us warmed up on this chilly morning.

Day 1 with PPE and Crash 2079 on our Election Raid weekend. Vote 1 Geocaching. Fortunately we manged to spend most of our time away from and get out for good caches, walking, tree climbing, sunshine and a bit of fishing. Lock downs and puzzle nights saw us with an increasing list of solved not found pile. Once at GZ a quick find of the prize. We completed the signing duties and re hid. TFTC

Went for an afternoon walk (almost) down to the river and collected a few caches on the way.
Forgotten Fireplace: A quick cache in plain sight! This strucutre looks to me a bit like the brick barbecues we used to have when I was a kid.
Thank you!

First on the way into the reserve. The cache was right *there*, so I'm not sure where the 2* diff comes in
Found at 10:46:00 AM out hunting for unloved caches
I'm not sure why you updated the coordinates. Surely it could only be in one spot!

Pebble and I decided to explore this area, I was excited to nab a few caches today including an unexpected second to find.
All quite accessible in the usual caching manner for the locations, some just in plain sight!
Loved the Guises Creek wander, we essentially did the caches today in a loop. Spotted some deer while returning to the car. I have seen deer from time to time on the sides of the Monaro, two girls and a boy deer today.
Thanks for leading us here, loved poking about and getting outdoors.
Thanks for the cache too

I needed some exercise and of course it was the weekend which is prime "caching time" and my caching buddy (Tankengine) had some places in mind.
It was a good day for a walk with the weather undecided as to what it would be. The sun would come out and it was rather warm, but as soon as a cloud covered it and the wind came up, it was jumpers back on again.
Tankengine had a cache in the area that needed maintenance and a few others that I was able to get as well. It was a great day all up. I was promised an easy 7km walk, but due to a few unexpected turns it turned out to be a little further and stepper than I expected. But still I certainly got the exercise I asked for.
Thanks Tankengine for the fun, blood, sweat and tears that were had. Can't wait until our next adventure ; )
This cache: An easy parking spot on the main road in front of the gates then to jump the fence and follow the dirt track to this little old fireplace. Nice little piece of history in the middle of nowhere. Tftc Tankengine!!!

Agree this is a weird situation for fireplace but, since it is in a Travelling Stock Route, maybe it was for the convenience of drovers who needed to sample their own wares and chuck a bit of steak on the barbie! Another empty car parked at the access - am guessing they are caching those three down by the river. Was tempted but running a bit behind due to a late start - was awakened just after 5am by explosions, flames and smoke just over my back fence in the park, so, after calling 000 and making cuppa tea in the dark, I went back to sleep and woke just before 8! Breaks the monotony of self isolation!! Oh, and TFTC.
Sunshine and an opportunity to go caching, what a great combination. Got this one. Scenery beautiful. Our thanks to Tankengine for placing this cache and adding to our enjoyment of the area.
Well after a super long day of caching this is yet another I just couldn’t resist nabbing on my way home. Thank goodness for summer and long days as it’s 2032hrs and I’m still going Thanks TE for another great hide.
Cache 5465 on 8 Sep 2019.
Bobl27 and I decided to head way south this morning to grab a few caches. We ended up with 9 caches, the right number for today, and as a bonus, 4 Tankengine caches ! Most of the Drive to Cooma series had new logs, and one had a new container. Despite the drive, a nice selection of caches easily found.
This cache: climbed through the fence and a quick find for the cache - nowhere else much to put one!
Thanks Tankengine for the cache and the fun!

I had a few hours this afternoon to kill, so made my way from Queanbeyan to Royalla then to Burra before returning to Queanbeyan. Took the short stroll down to make a quick find, thanks TE.
Found by Mary and David at 10:40:00. Today we start for home after a great week in Queanbeyan at the Clear Waters Mega. But wait, there's more - another Tankengine cache, and an easy peasy one at that. Plenty of grass here for travelling stock. Interesting fireplace. Was it a test piece for a young apprentice bricklayer, or the start of a McMansion? Perhaps not - imagine a BBQ sheep here. Our thanks to Tankengine.

The trip home after a week away, Queanbeyan/Canberra for Clear Waters, then a few days at Crackenback and surrounding areas. With a long drive today we only had time for a small handful of roadside stuff, very handy for leg stretching....
After missing another 'Forgotten' cache nearby, we wanted this one, and it looked like a driveby on the map too. Funny the road on the google maps seems to represent where some dude drove a 4WD over the grass once? Not much of a road, but enough to follow - we jumped two fences to get there, comforted by the TSR signage - they're free access aren't they?
Samuel spotted the hide after I assumed it 'wouldn't be in there...' TFTC Tankengine

Attending the Queanbeyan Clear Waters mega event, this was a day packed with hikes and power trails. Our team "LUCKY9" started off the day walking around Googong Dam targeting the Queen geocache trail, before then heading south through Royalla and visiting Michelago, and then heading north via Burra. A massive day caching indeed in great weather.
An interesting location. The cache and contents were in good shape here, thanks Tankengine.

Day out in ACT., to bring up 6000 finds. Thanks to all cache owners for an enjoyable day out.
A nice sunny Winter's afternoon in Canberra, so it was perfect weather for caching. Touchstone7 and I decided that we'd head down to Tharwa and do a drive through Ingles Crossing, picking up a few caches along the way.
Last for the day. Thanks for the cache TE.

**FIND #175 OF 200**
Well, the day is here! A day I had planned for quite some time. 200 finds in one day with Loci612. We started out just after 6am, in absolutely freezing temperatures given it had been -7 degrees overnight. With a very tight plan for the caches today, we headed out to find our first cache at 6:38am. From then on, it was a very tidy stream of finds. We hit a hurdle with Paddy's Pass but eventually made the find. After that, all the finds were relatively easy until the section of ALL7 caches heading south along Tidbinbilla Road. A few of these caches caused us some strife but we eventually found all of them.
After driving all morning finding caches, it was nice to get out and stretch our legs with DARKSIDEDAN and joeylovestreasure's Vampire Trail. Some enjoyable finds out there! After that we headed out to Burra to pick up the new ALL7 caches along the roads out there. A lot of nice and quick park and grabs and our first DNF of the day, on Burra #24. A few caches in and around Michelago and then we were off to Old Cooma Road for the last couple of caches for the day. I found I was one short at the end of it all so we swung by a quick cache in Fadden to make 200 finds for the day!
Lots of ALL7 caches for the day and a few other ones thrown in the mix. All logs were signed CL or LC with the date 12/7. Thanks to all the COs who placed caches that we found today!

**Cache #172 of 200 for the day! **
A while ago Cankid came up with a crazy plan of attempting to find 200 caches in a single day with the help of the recently published trails by ALL7 and lots of extra's thrown in along the way. I said I was in and a plan was hatched!
The day started at 5:30am when I drove down south to meet up with Cankid, and we soon headed off soon afterwards, picking up cache #1 at **6:38am!** The temperatures started off below 0°C for the first couple of hours and we struggled to open the containers and sign the logs with numb hands. The day soon warmed up however and the layers were taken off and we powered through all the caches on our pre planned list!
Cache #100 was then found at **12:37pm** almost exactly 6 hours after we started and halfway through our goal.
Cache #150 came at **2:57pm**, we had only rested for about 15 minutes by this point to have some lunch!
We were soon very close to the target but the last couple of caches were slower ones back in Canberra just to finish off the powertrails with something more interesting. By the time we were all finished up it was **6:51pm**, not a bad effort considering and just over the 12 hour mark! It was certainly a long day!
P.S Sorry for the generic logs, but 200 caches was a lot to take in! All the ones I remember have extra comments down the bottom
---
*We signed the log either **C.L or L.C with the date 12/7**, for Loci612 and Cankid. We had a miscommunication and depending who signed the log put a different letter first *
---

Forgotten indeed! Very strange, lots of random bits of history out this way I have discovered. Quick find, thanks Tankengine

What a day! Geocaching, amazing places to see with a great geocaching crew – StrangeTrousers, matrx and SpecimenX. Special thanks to SpecimenX for all the driving and four-wheel fun in your Geo Mobile. Great company and a few laughs along the way.
Fun and highlights of the day.
Meet up with fellow cachers on the road, near death experiences in long grass that was over my head (would I make it to the cache or perish lost in the undergrowth). Top moment being the time spent at the Tinderry Trail. The view and sound of Lyre-bird turned a caching moment into something special. If anyone is going to go visit this cache please take note that there are kola’s in the area. We all were surprised by the kola sign on the road up. Who knew? Another one of those – learnt something new from caching moments.

Time to get in the geounit and go and hit the new trails around Burra and surrounds, as well as any other caches along the way. Top day out with StrangeTrousers, CBRChic & mtrax

#4235 19th for today
A big day of geocaching with CBRChic, mtrax, SpecimenX in "The Wench" SpX's geo-vehicle. In fact, it was my biggest day of geocaching with well over 120 finds - a fantastic team effort. Perfect winter weather made the expedition a pleasure and the great company too. It was not all drive-by's today, an excursion up to Tinderry Tail was a lot of fun with some excellent scenery and Lyre-bird song.
Unexpectedly hiding in plain sight.
Thanks to my geo-colleagues today for making it such a great time.
Thanks also to the COs: Tankengine

The fence was about the only difficulty in finding this one I would rate this as a D=1 !! it was pretty exposed
Today's adventure was to explore the Burra series , a cool start but a great day to be out exploring,
found pretty quick.
Most caches place spot on GZ a few tricky places to stop but on the whole a good reason to head south.
found with StrangeTrousers, CBRChick and Specimen X

#3002 On our way to Old Cooma Road with the Green-martian,this cache was on the way and just hanging in the balance. A quick find, but no time for a BBQ. Thanks TE.
Interesting, a fireplace that is open to public use - and a cache container waiting to get frizzled. Lol. TFTC
Should we shouldn’t we the gate is locked. Over we went straight to fire place. Log signed
Another one of my finds on my way to the Geo Muster in Morisett. I was worried. Is this private property? I read other logs that had mentioned they had Jumped the fence. Oh well.... here goes. Looked under rocks... Didnt see what was right infront of me lol
While driving down to the event that I'm hosting on Australia day I decided to stop and get some caches. Only to discover my name was already in the logbook. Doh...! Thanks for this cache ot was great to visit it twice.
Squeezed through the first obstacle and straddled the second before making our way down to GZ for a quick find. Definitely looks forgotten! TFTC Tankengine.
Bizarre place to find a BBQ. We came across a local farmer as we were crossing the fence near the road as we came back, who said that the "pack of Canberrian goons" built the fireplace in the wrong spot. It was meant to be in the nearby reserve! TFTC!
Found 12:21 pm with girl friend. I was on a mission to rescue my Geocaching Australia gnome about 10k's south of Bombala and so we had decided to make a weekend of it and stay in Bombala overnight. This was our first cache on our journey. Interesting how these stock feeding areas were set up and for the drovers fireplaces so they could cook and party. I have heard of some of these being used I think around year 2000 when a lot of the outback areas were severely hit by drought everywhere. But nothing more recent, saying that it may still have happened more recently. Signed the log and returned the cache. I do wonder if this area was going to be needed for stock grazing whether this cache would survive in its location.
Thanks for the cache.
Thanks for the cache.
Tagging along with the "Rats" on holidays has it's advantages, not only do we get to see our cool country but we also get to do a heap of caching as Dad just can't help himself and has to stop at every cache he can.
Heading across Australia on nearly every dirt road possible we stopped and found your cache as part of our adventure and for that, I thank you! Sorry about the log being a "cut n paste" but tthats just because we stopped at so many caches.

Apologises for the late log in some cases but we are only just catching up on our logging now that we have arrived back home. Your cache makes up many of the great memories we now have from the adventure. The faceplate style log doesn't detract from the experience we had finding the cache.

Australia Day, ‘Straya Day, a day off work before my normal 2 day weekend called for a 3 day road trip. End of day one and I’m logging my finds from my motel room with some cold beers, true Aussie style? Dunno, I’m a Kiwi.
First trip to NSW, 8.5 hour drive to reach my motel in Eden, but got a good number of caches on the way. Day two was all about getting to A.C.T. Another long day of driving with some caches found here and there.
My 6th cache for today. 1568th cache in total. 484th in Australia and my first cache in A.C.T
I wasn't sure about jumping the fence but what the hell, I've driven a long way for this. Over I went, looking out for snakes in the grass. Cache was found quickly and in excellent condition. Thank Tankengine

Since moving from New Zealand I have been enjoying the area, exploring and finding caches. I have got a nice streak going and hoping to let it run for as long as possible. This may or may not become easier now that I have found a job but I’m still currently staying with my brother (stinky tom) and his family which includes my nephew (stinky bob).
A big thanks goes out to all the cachers and cache owners without whom this lifestyle would not be possible.
The caches I’ve found in Australia so far have for the most part all been in great condition. Keep up the good work. Everyone likes finding a well maintained cache with a dry logbook.

Took The Woofer down the coast for a couple of nights, and used the opportunity to bring our cache count closer to 1000! It took us 8 hours to get to Bermagui, but we found over 40 caches, and had an absolute ball - with some of the most creative hides we've ever seen.
This one was a nice easy find in an interesting location. TFTC TE!

Returning from a trip top take my 84yo to visit the snow for the first time, it occurred to me that I have never found a cache in the ACT about the same time as I saw the ACT road sign. A quick scan of the GPSr showed this cache just up ahead. A bit of a scramble over a fence or two and I had CIH and my first cache find in the ACT. Will have to come back for more when time permits. #4892 - 15:35; Decided to head out to Googong today to collect a few newish caches and then head along the Old Cooma Road and Burra Road for a few quite old ones. That part of the mission completed, I decided to pick up a few more along the Monaro Highway on the homeward leg. This was the first stop and I spotted GZ pretty quickly, just had to make my way over, where a quick find and sign was had. TFTC Tankengine
Last quick stop on the way home from the snow with Kusi88. Sure is a lonely looking fireplace!

Hoojar: "nah, it's a stock route"
Me: "I didn't know they still existed!"

After walking with the Canberra Walking Group meetup from Caloola Farm to Glendale via Brandy Flat Huit, I decided to take an alternative way home via Smiths Road and the Monaro highway. A quick find after a short stroll. TFTC.
