Returned to the reserve and found the path to the western drive tunnel. Had a hood hunt for the cache, no luck.
Im not sure if i was at the right tunnel because this one i saw was collapsed. Didnt find any hidden cache here.
Second time right tunnel. Found steel plate and a yellow whistle but no cache. Was the whistle in the original cache? On the (L) in tangle of roots and loose rocks head height was the hint. 11m further my phone said but.......
Attempted to find this a few months ago and went up the Eastern drive instead. Came back and found cache on ground without any contents. Replaced in its likely hiding spot. TFTC
Found it but I think the recent bad weather had washed it out. Nothing left in it
Found the tunnel which was really cool but couldn’t find the cache despite having a good look and following the hints
As Lis and I were in the area we also continued over the road to this found the three caches here!
Could have made a wrong turn if on my own.
Cool to see this tunnel thanks...
The cache was behind a rusty plate....and I re inserted it into the root tangle as per hint ....but still behind the rusty thing.
Most interesting place to explore...thanks hotrodpete.

My youngest son and I were down in Whangarei to pick up my other son for his Uni holidays. I was keen to try this cache again before his bus arrived. I love this walk. It's a great place to explore and there are some wonderful trees around. We easily found the correct track this time and enjoyed exploring in the cave. The cache was easily spotted and the log signed. We popped down to the old train again on our way back to the car. Such fun, thanks
We ran out of time for this one. We headed up the wrong cutting and had a fun explore anyway. We'll be happy to come back again and hunt in the correct place. Thanks anyway
Ended up at multiple cliffs and then on top of the GZ, before reading the hints... Some times following a path is a better option (But never as fun!) Tftc a fav from us!
Glad to finally be able to convert a sad blue face into a smiley yellow one. Been here three times previously and spent quite a bit of time looking outside the entrance, as per the cache description and hint.
I noticed from the found log yesterday, that the cache may have been shifted by muggles or ?? and was now probably actually inside the tunnel, so zipped off late in the afternoon to have a look. I took a torch with me and was soon able to locate the cache which is still in surprisingly good condition. The log book is quite damp, but is still totally signable.
So just a hint for future cachers, if you go right into the tunnel, even without a torch, and wait for a minute or two, to let your eyes adjust to the low light conditions, I am sure you too will be able to post a found log against this cache.

Glad we read the hints and other log notes before hunting for this one! We easily found outta steam then came wandering through the old quarry for this cache. Explored both main cuttings. Great exploring somewhere new, somewhere we've driven past many times but didn't realise what was over the fence past the sign.
Note: we didn't find the cache where the hint suggested but part way along the tunnel. Its wet inside. I'll message you where we left it. Thanks for the cache

What an adventure. We had found Out a steam and headed in the general direction of the cache. Headed down a cutting and thought we were at gz. It didn't seem right but we searched anyway. Then read a couple of previous logs and realised there were two cuttings. Back tracked and found western cutting. Now things were falling into place. But still no cache. Climbed up and around but nothing. Then Macwatt spotted it where it shouldn't have been and yes it has been muggled. CO informed. Thanks for bringing us here -we had a great time. Thanks for the cache
Had quite an adventure to this cache .....as we found out there are several cuttings and of course we took the incorrect one first up ...things did not add up with the Hint and GPS and logs ...so back tracked to find another cutting and things look ed more promising .....I soon found the muggles cached way down the tunnel ...notified the CO and rehide as best possible ....these are great caches where history is revealed and it's you and the GPS in a great bush environment ...thanks hotrodpete for the great cache
After successfully finding the Scor-e-a-view this evening, that was a previous DNF, I thought I would give this one a go too, as it too had ben unfound when I first tried last year as a rookie.
Found GZ realatively easily thanks to the good clues, but again cache was nowhere to be found. Judging by the well worn trail through the wandering jew weed, I would guess quite a few people come exploring here, so it's quite possible the cache has been muggled...??
Thx for a reason to explore this neat area anyway.

After finding "outta steam", I followed a trail into a cutting, until 20 m from the cache, when the GPS told me to climb up the bank on my right. This turned out to be so "wrong" , as this changed the terrain level to a 4 1/2 as I perched on the side of the quarry wall, again following a sort of track (others had been here before me? got to within 2 m, but nothing looking like the hint, it all looked wrong)
Thinking about what to do next, I decided to come down into what looked like a cutting, only to find myself above the tunnel entrance, with a steep descent and drop off. I was above the cache, which I could reach and retrieve from the top!
Once I got myself down, I realised I had not bought a torch, so was unable to explore the tunnels.
The return was much easier, as I discovered the fork in the track S 35° 40.807 E 174° 17.457 where I could have gone to the right, followed a slight track, which is the cutting that led to the cache. If you find yourself in the wrong cutting, backtrack until you find the other entrance.
This place will get another visit for exploring, next time I will have to return with rebel98, who had stayed at the car.. The return was easy, as the area has been cleared of plants that had been growing on the incline track. About 200 m from the road it started to rain, then pour - returned to the car soaked. Great adventure and hide

A very interesting place had a bit of an explore around. Thanks for the detailed hint as my phone really struggled here. TFTC
Decided to do this one for my First Souvineir for Leap Day.
PArked up and Ventured into the bush. Forgot the track and headed into the scrub... NOPE
Take a Left at the tree with the tree hut strewn around it.
Attempted to to a straight through for this... NO chance in hell.
Headed towards the boiler and then took the right.
UP the track and all the way up through the cutting.
Not realising at first that there were two of these cuttings.
Got to GZ and had a blip through the tunnel. There is an opening at the other side. with train tracks meant to close it that had since fallen in.
Back out to the start and took in the surroundings. Over 10 Fantails were flitting about catching bugs and playing and fighting with one another.
Looked at my phone and then looked straight at the cache... Nice colour camo.
Logged and then I decided to attempt to find the:
"Kamo Tunnel. “The end of the line”" GC6A6BA
No luck here so I decided to head to the Eastern cutting and up the track.
Similar but different cutting as it would not be accessed as much.
Followed the track up to the end and checked out the hole entrance.
Most of this tunnel has fallen down and is now just a small cave only 2-3m deep.
Turned around and first place I checked was the cache. Way far from it's Coords.
only 30m from this GZ. Which is why it was archived. Unfortunately.
Spectacular place and I never knew this was here. TFTC

Was passing by on the way home via pushbike & couldn't resist going for this one, so heaved bike over fence & mostly pushed it along to GZ. Too chicken to venture in to the gaping maw , alone & without a torch. What an awesome place to explore!!! A fave for sure. Thanks! -TB
#571 The challenge and adventure to get to GZ was worth the smilie alone. I recommend finding outta steam first and not trying to off-road it. I also discovered the smaller cave first where I decided to read the logs instead of giving up. TB present - forgot to record code. TFT(adventurous)C.
Found ourselves in the wrong canyon and found some good size Weta's in some holes in the bank.Backtracked around and located the cache easily.Ventured into the cave to check it out.Really enjoyed this little adventure and would not have known about this location and history if it wasn't for the CO's effort and placement, thanks for the cache .
Found it, easy find, thanks for the clue, what an amazing place in my backyard, didn't know it existed, great afternoon walk
(1700) There on placement. Drop of travel bug, This spot would make a great dragon home. Thanks hotrodpete.
