This one was a little walk up the track but then a little hike through some possible snakey grass to get to....maybe we took the wrong path? Nice quick find at GZ though!Spent the day driving around getting a few more smilies in Albany....still so overwhelming with the amount down here but loving it! Thank you Albany Canucks for placing and maintaining Helmet Rock for us and others to find and enjoy!

Powered up the hill in my thongs and saw the trail off to the rocks and realised I'd come too far to turn back for my boots. Some bushes were sharp when bush bashing in but it wasn't too bad. Navigated the paths between the rocks and made the quick find before climbing up top, finding the Marshall's 'cache' was so fascinating, a special pieces of history for sure. A favourite is well worth for the trek and history, TFTC!

Up we marched and March flied we were! So many of the critters! Thanks for the view which was interrupted by the march flies!

04-Dec-21
With Phillario and amb217. March Flies were after us going for this one. Good views.

04-Dec-21
Thanks for the instructions to the cache, parking and trail instructions were very clear. Just a warning to those out and about in December, the March flies were plague like! Killed at least 12 and swatted away many more on just this short trek. Finding and signing the cache while stationary was done at speed! Otherwise a great little hike a viewpoint

Out and about for the day with @jamesknowlson getting some caches that we still need to find in Albany. Needed to find this one so we hiked through the bush to get it. Sadly I stacked it and hurt my elbow but the cache and the new smiley on my map was worth it. TFTC Albany Canucks Smile

Hi there Albany Canucks.

We found your cache **"Helmet Rock"** at 10:23:00 AM today. (This makes our find count 23899).

We're staying in Albany for a few days, and today we decided to attempt a few caches in the Torndirrup National Park. We thoroughly enjoyed the stroll to this cache & ended up finding 7 caches & DNF'd 0.

Thanks for placing this cache here. Over the years, Geocaching has taken us on many adventures and to lots of wonderful destinations all over Australia. Without 'caching as our guide we would never have found so many interesting places on our nomadic wanderings. 'Caching has also introduced us to a diverse group of like-minded people, many of whom we now call friends.

**Coordinate Accuracy:** We found your cache around 3m from where the GPS said we should be looking. Wink
**Cache Condition:** The container and log book are in good shape.
**Took:** Nothing
**Left:** Smiley Badge.

Thank you Albany Canucks for adding to our adventure.

Regards

Ian & Penny

Due to the drizzle very few muggles about. Parked at designated spot and proceeded up the sandy track. When about 70 mts from gz, headed into the scrub. With the rocks quite wet it was a bit slippery negotiating them but made my way o gz and located the well hidden container. Thanks Albany Canucks

#12566. Day 3 of our WA holiday and our last full day in Albany. Another grey day but fairly mild and good for walking and seeking out caches. We ventured south today around the coastline so got some great views and enjoyed seeing the emerging spring flowers along the roadside and in the bush. Managed to find 14 for the day before heading back to our accommodation at Middleton Beach.

A bit of a tramp up the sandy track with hot pies in hand and GPS's to the ready. A bit of bush-bashing took us to one large boulder where a long snake was digesting some little critter. We passed on and over to the next big boulder where we enjoyed our brunch before heading for GZ. What a great story about the Marshalls who have visited a few times since 1985 and added their names again, and again.

I was delighted to retrieve a beautiful geocoin that had been dropped in by the last finder. Such a nice surprise. Was going to leave some SWAG but with the other container inside the cache there wasn't any room. Thanks for bringing us to this special place.

Thanks Albany Canucks

Day Four in Albany, WA. A bit of a grey day, but mild and no wind, so Bettyboo3747 and I just toured to the south of Albany, randomly doing caches that had nice walks.

We have driven past Helmet Rock many times, but never stopped in - today we changed that.
A nice walk up the hill, a short bush bash, said hello to a two meter snake (who wasn't moving as he had just had lunch!), and there we were.
We sat on one rock short and ate our morning tea (some hot pies from the shop in Torndirrup), examining the possibilities.
Loaded up with pie we scramble the final 10 meters to the cache.
Very interesting container inside, particularly its log book.
Thanks, Robmc.

10-Jul-17
This was my second go for this one. The first time I was solo and surprised a dugite about 20 metres from GZ then chickened out. (seeing as how I'm retrospectively logging this, I can see that RobMc had the same encounter)
Came back today with Mistraluna and felt much braver and stamped feet a bit more. Our synchronized tumbles probably helped too.

One of those spots you see driving past and never get to. Thanks Canucks for remedying that

10-Jul-17
Was a comedy of errors getting to this cache, but no physical injuries were incurred, just a bit of bruising to my ego after taking the most magnificent tumble down backwards off of a rock. My companion was most concerned for my welfare, and in his haste to get to me to help me up, he too took a tumble and almost landed on top of me. Talk about hysterical!! But we were both unharmed, so picked ourselves up, dusted ourselves off and came and found the cache. Great location for a cache too. All good with the cache. Interesting story about it too. Found a trackable, and left a beautiful geocoin in its place. Hopefully somebody will come along and find it soon. Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache Albany Canucks.

PS Saw several varieties of orchids around here, with at least two being different types of leek orchids, pretty sure one was a mignionette too, with others ready to flower soon.
