Logs
Oops .... thought I had logged this event on the day ... must be thinking of the log I wrote for the cache that was having the birthday ... in fact I was standing next to the trig, typing the first bit of that log when all the excitement erupted and Sol De Lune got a phone message and dashed past everyone and down the hill, when the thought to be missing original cache was found ... which was just the icing on the cake for what was already a rather good party
TFTC - fun event, and a good excuse to drag my poor Golden Geo Retriever up here and find the other caches on this hill on my way up - the dog liked most of the walk, and made lots of friends at the party, but he was not at all impressed with going up all the hills I dragged him up - lol
(and he wanted to be off the lead and chasing the several hundred skippys

All done and dusted...almost...but time to be archived.
Thanks to all attended...hope you enjoyed the location....see you next year.

4829. Great to catch up with all present, share a PT, hear and see the discovery of the original and to wander down the hill to discover an unpublished cache that had been sitting out here for yonks.
What more would one want!
Thanks Sdl for your great organisational skills once again!!!

Decided to do something different this weekend and attended a birthday event on my birthday
As we pulled up at the bottom of the hill we met up with baby&Mrs gopher (and family).
Slowly slowly we made it up the hill with plenty of puffed stops.
Was great to meet some new peeps and catch up with old mates.
Thanks for bringing us up here Sol de lune

A great day at the top of Mt Painter and a good turn out. Highlight of the day was the finding of the original.....thought lost forever......cache. Complete with the historical log book dating back to May 2001, the cache is now back in action and ready for all comers to find again.
After the event a few of retired to the Southern Cross Club for lunch.....and we spent a couple of hours chatting about caching and all the worlds problems......didn't solve any of them, but a good time was had by those in attendance.
Thanks to all who made the effort to climb the hill to help celebrate the placement of the ACT's first cache.......see you all next year.

In true caching form I headed up to this one on the shortest route. Probably the worst one at that too. All the same got there in the end and had a lovely catch up with some fellow cachers.
Thanks for holding the event SDL and the information and history about Canberra caching.

10531. Another fun birthday event for the 1st cache in Canberra.
The kids and I parked down near the Cook memorial and wandered up the hill to find our visitors from the NT waiting for the event to start. Soon a whole lot more showed up and the event got underway. Lots of visitors as well as the usual suspects. I missed the excitement of finding the old cache as I was recovering a cache I had put on the other side in 2010 but never had published !
All in all a fun day and fun birthday to celebrate.
Thanks Sol de Lune - hope you keep holding these - but I cant say if I'll attend or not !
TNLN - TFTC !!

Thanks for organising this event. Glad to be part of the special find namely the original cache initially thought muggled and lost forever. Was good to read some entries in the original book.
Thanks for the opportunity to meet a number of people who have only been names in logs until now.
#1145. 138 days in a row.
Nice to meet all of you, either for the first time or again. It was great to chat to various people about various caching-related topics (and one or two non-caching ones). After the event was over, I went over to the club to have lunch with a few of the cachers from this event, picking up another cache along the way.

An event ???? Why didn't my caching secretary put it into my diary? Jeepers, good help is hard to find
Nice celebration for Canberra caching. There were no other caches around here when I found this one in 2005. Now there are lots that I haven't even found yet. Took the opportunity to clear the area. Great to catch up with all. TFTC and organising this event Sol de lune.
Enjoyed meeting and catching up with so many Cachers at this event... Also great to find the oldest cache near by Thanks Sol de lune for organising this event
5407. baby&Mrs gopher joined in with the group and in the company of fizzgig&lyric and CastleKay at 1200. Just great to be in such company of those that made the trek to the summit. Tnx Sol de lune on a well presented ACT Birthday Event.
Normally not a good day for me but the company helped to brighten it up ---- up, up up to the summit yet again. Couldn't stay for afters as friends were taking me out. Hope it was all good. Great to meet so many people I hadn't met before. Thanks for the history of the cache and organising SDL
Found SpecimenX parking her new geomobile and we climbed up the hill together. It was great to see so many cachers at the birthday party. Thanks for telling us the history of the cache including the fact that sadly the original had gone missing along with the historic log books. All of a sudden SDL (not quite swearing but obviously adgitated) tore off down the hill to the birthday cache's location. It turns out that the original cache had been found! After the event SpecimenX and I did a bit of caching which was really enjoyable. HAPPY BIRTHDAY.... and thanks for the exciting event Sol de lune

Attended the event today and was with great saddened that I find out the original Canberra Nature Park
by Alex, Helen & Jock GC6CF Australian Capital Territory, Australia had been lost forever. After the event I walked down the hill with some of the other geocache crew to find Canberra's oldest cache again after finding it almost 12 months ago. The other geocache finders went to a pile of rocks and pulled out the replacement cache for GC6CF. I said "that's not the right one, the other cache is over here". I ran 40 meters away and pulled out Canberra Nature Park by Alex, Helen & Jock GC6CF Australian Capital Territory, Australia including all the old and original logbooks. I had one of the group call Sol de lune who came running down the hill to find me holding both the original and the replacement cache. Is my great pleasure to find such a wonderful piece of ACT Geocaching history on its 15th Birthday and to give it back to everyone.
Oh, thanks for the event too.

Come down planning to finish the Roo, but noticed this event and had to make it a priority. Was great meeting some of Canberra's finest.
Attended with baby&Mrs gopher and CastleKay, thx to Sol de lune for putting on a great event!
Attended with fizzgig&lyric and baby&Mrs gopher. Was a perfect Autum day for the event and loved finding Canberra's oldest, thx Sol de lune for organizing!
After parking the geovehicle I noticed ZimbaW along with her trusty ridgeo-pup had pulled up as well - so off we went to huff and puff and climb the hill together
Once at the top, it was good to meet up with the crowd gathered under the trig and on the boulders.
Great to hear Sol de Lune talk about the interesting history of the first cache which was placed nearby - 34 days until the FTF went off! Haven't times changed now! Then it was even better to find the ORIGINAL cache, which was presumably muggled, was found by a cacher only moments before I arrived at GZ!
Then after that, ZimbaW and I went for a lovely loop around the mountain to collect the other caches nearby.
Thanks SDL for putting on this significant event-always fun!

Plans were in place to do a little geocaching around Canberra with Coruze and grandson. We attended an event and grabbed a couple caches that have been on my nemesis list for a while.
Arrived early with Coruze and grandson Benny. Love the views and there was a great turn out today. Excellent excuse to make the find on the ACT first cache
Thanks Sol de lune for the holding this event [^]

What a great event and brilliant idea by Sol de lune!
I think it was awesome that it was planned on top of the hill and everyone seemed to make it up with smiles on their faces. Had a good old chat to a few old and new faces before Sol's informative speech!
I had already found the oldest cache for my 500th milestone but it was great to celebrate its own milestone of 15 years since placed! After the event I went off with Sacada to clear out the rest of the caches down the side of the hill for a very successful afternoon.
Thanks Sol de lune for bringing this event back, it was a perfect day for it

It was great to be part of this celebration and for meeting other geocachers & it was well worth the climb up the hill. Thanks Sol de lune for organising, well done.
This was our first participation at an organised caching event, and great fun it was too. Apart from meeting a lot of interesting fellow cachers we also had the excitement of seeing darksidedan find the original cache, including the original log book, presumed lost some years ago. Thanks Sol de lune for organising the event.
#4292 - 12:15; Well, that turned out to be a more eventful event than I think anyone had planned, especially when the original version of Canberra's oldest cache was located after having been feared lost for the last few years! Anyhow, after making my way the short but sharp way up to the crest of the hill, it was nice to mingle with cachers old and new in celebration of another milestone for caching in the ACT. TFTE Sol de lune
I had a lovely time catching up with other cachers and enjoying the views from the top of the Pinnacle. Great news that the old log book and container were found. Enjoyed a nice lunch following the event with a couple of cachers too. Thanks SDL for organizing - it was great to help celebrate 15 years caching in the ACT
Arrived on the stroke of 12:00, to find a large group already assembled at the peak. Disappointed to find there was no birthday cake, candles, or singing of Happy Birthday though! Great location to celebrate, and even better to have Darkside Dan rediscover the "lost" cache. All in all, a most memorable event.
Thanks Sol de lune!
Thanks Sol de lune!
Would have liked to come along to this one. Unfortunately I'm out of town for the weekend.
Maybe one year I'll get to this bday event.
Thanks sdl

#1987 Saturdays are not ideal for me as there's usually a lot going on. I managed to get to this event at 12:00 only to discover it was on top of the hill, so I trudged up a fairly steep path to make it about 5 mins after the official start. I was pleased to see an easier way back. I enjoyed catching up with a few fellow caches in this celebration of Canberra's first gc.
TFTE SDL and the brief gc history lesson.

On a break away from Darwin with CAD - we are both looking forward to attending this event
I will be there and hope that GrimRaider can also make it to the top by then.
Not sure if you have thought of a venue for lunch, but Ricardos at Jamison is so noisy! Great food but you can't hear the person two seats away. The Canberra Southern Cross Club may be a better venue so we can chat... Happy to go wherever SDL decides though.
Thanks for organising - so glad I can help celebrate the milestone this time

Suggest Ricardo's for lunch/coffee but I think we would need to book a table.
ooh - logged on to site to look for something else and found this event had popped up - sounds fun - count me in!
... been meaning to get around to doing the caches on this hill, but never quite seem to get there ... I might try and do some of them before this event
btw - re cafe/lunch - I will be in for that too ... Riccardos is good but can be rather busy ... is also a cafe nearer to the event, next to Cook shops - but I am not sure what hours/days they are open or what the coffee/food is like (I can drive past and check the opening hours if need be - I go past there at least once a week) ... is also a good, (but small? so would probably need to book) cafe in the old Aranda shops that I have been to once (food and coffee was good) - that one is nice to sit outside if the weather is OK (actually I am not sure how much room is inside - i went there for breakfast, with a group from work, a few weeks back and we all sat outside

This sounds like a great event! I found the oldest cache as my 500th milestone a while ago so it will be great to come back up here and celebrate it's birthday. I also haven't found the nearby caches on the hill as I didn't have time so hopefully will get those too!
Thanks Sol de lune for organising another event

I'll be there with bells on! My first time at an ACT's first's birthday event (too many possessives but you know what I mean).
And it looks like dogs are welcome (http://www.tams.act.gov.au/__data/assets/pdf_file/0005/390605/MTPAINTER.pdf) so I'll bring the Ridgeo-pup too, if thats' OK with you.

DAMN IT! Unfortunately, we'll be coming back home from Narooma with friends and we won't be able to make it. I am so disappointed - this event would have been a very special moment in ACT geocaching! Have fun guys! Cheers Sol for organising this!
