WA Big Trip Winter 2024. Day 78 - Mount Magnet day. I stayed here an extra day so I could take a day trip North to Cue to visit the second last county in WA for me. Without the caravan, the trip went smoothly and I managed to get all the caches I went to and a set of Labs around th Historic town of Cue. I then headed back south and after passing two HUGE mine trucks using the whole road, ventured into the Tourist Road caches north of Mount Magnet. There are some sad and interesting places in there. I went back to the van park for lunch and then went back North gain to try my luck at the Granite caches. Some of those were difficult to fins and I did miss two of them. I ended the day in the sun outside the van and then cooked dinner at home. Tomorrow is the start of the journey to the coast after the final Mount Magnet town caches and fuel. As I cruised up the highway with trucks all over the place, I was happy to have a short break here to find a cache. I worked out the way points were around the wrong way and headed over to the old vehicle. From there it was just a mater of feeling everywhere until I located the cache. I must say I was running out of ideas when I eventually found it. Even though it is a much bigger container than what I was checking for. Thanks for the cache boyfromthebush48464.1 TNLNVisited: World Traveling Gold GC A#6 & Time and Space Blue Bronze A#198**Albida**
What a cool car!----------------------Decided to do a long road trip, flying in from Canberra, starting and finishing the drive in Port Hedland. It was a long day of flights, followed by 7 days of lots of kilometres. I stopped at every 'point of interest' along the way, I wanted to miss nothing! Earthcaches, Virtuals & AL's are always very good waypoints for interesting things as well. Every night I downloaded a bunch of podcasts and these made the kilometres fall away. This was the first outback road trip I have done where I saw more emu's than kangaroos. The wild camels walking in the desert were also very cool to see. My trusty swag served me very well.
Realsing this LGA was closish being in Mt Magnet we headed north. We expected the areas to be more of an island based on the sat map but the sign explained the Island meaning. Like others we struggled with the co-ords until reading other logs and our geo senses were correct and headed to the old car and soon made the find. We completed the signing duties and re hid. TFTC
After reading previous activity found the prize.

On my way to Perth via Broome with a few detours for LGAs. TFTC.
After working out that the car has the cache, it was a fairly quick find.
Interesting all the water on the map.

Nice quick find once we had read some past logs. Out and about on our 6th day of a nine day adventure TFTC
A nice park and grab as we head to Meekatharra for a day of caching.
TFTC boyfromthebush, girlfromthebush this is find #12578 for us.

Whilst we drive through we are now grabbing 1 where we can in each LGA.
Its a bit harder when towing the caravan so this was a great option.

We are spending a few weeks travelling to some of Western Australia's warmer regions and grabbing a couple of the LGAs that I need.
I tried for this one a couple of years ago and came up empty. Today I used the coords that Granett provided and soon had the cache in hand and I didn't feel any spiders in there.
This was find number 2 for the day.

Find 23 of 23 on day 2 roadtripping through central WA from a remote station south of Yalgoo, through to Cue.
As the sun dropped for the day we skedaddled to Cue but had time to take the old banger for a spin. Very grateful for the updated co-ords in Granett's log which led to a quick find.

Found it. TFTC boyfromthebush. Had to extend my search to something that looked a little suspicious. Bingo
On the road to Marble Bar caching as we go. We stopped to grab this one but our gps put us some 20 to 30m away from gz but we were pretty sure where it would be. We searched for ages inside and out until Leega made the find in a place I had stuck my hand twice but quickly stopped due to spider web. But now with the prize in hand we added our names to your log and returned your cache back to its place of hiding. Loved the old wreck. TFTC girlfromthebush.
Travelling to Marble Bar with axell33 putting smilies on our map as we go. We took a bit longer looking for this one so widened our gz area. Finally found the hidey spot! A bit off but never mind. Thanks for the hide here and greetings from Baldivis.

Always tempting to look for a cache that’s had a few DNFs, just t see if it really is there. After reading previous logs indicating where the hide might be, we headed over and after a short search, found our reward. Thought about taking the $50 note left inside, but decided to leave it for the next finder. TFTC
The truckstop underwent an upgrade at the start of 2020 and the old car was moved to the side. The cache may have been inadvertently moved or lost
Arrived at gz which is just blue metal , looked on the signs bins and car which are all away from gz but no luck
A quorum of the Fott was here so we are retrospectively claiming the find. If that's an issue let us know.
A long-overdue road trip for the FOTT saw Granett, Kyzabra, SVKR_WA and myself head out to collect some LGAs.
A massive road trip with over 2,000Ks covered, there was a carefully thought out plan by a monkey at a typewriter and this was one of the caches selected for this amazing trip, as we could not make them all in the time we had and the distance we needed to cover.

On a long awaited road trip with the FoTT up through the Goldfields area of our state. We had some targets that crossed off a few LGA's and others that helped me qualify for a challenge (GC3TR3M). Headed off early Friday and after much frivolity and silliness over 2000 odd k's we made it back home late Sunday arvo.
Had done a bit of research on this one beforehand and new where the cache would be. Told my driver to park next to the car but he didn't want to, "But GZ is over there!". Eventually he reluctantly did what he was told and I had the container to hand a short time later.
Have added some coords to remind future finders.
boyfromthebush I found your cache at 1:37pm, this was the 8th of 14 finds for me today and brings my total find count to 5781. The cache was in good order and I replaced it as found.

A long overdue road trip for the FOTT saw Granett, Allied_Oz, SVKR_WA and myself head out to collect some LGAs.
Day one was home to Cue. Picking up key caches along the way. Our goal being Cue ️and approx 850km didn’t leave much time for sightseeing or extra random caches. A plan has been made and we were sticking to it
This was one of our targets and happy to say the find was made.
Yes, it’s 50 metres away. Yes it’s there. Sorry we doubted you Granett.
Many thanks to boyfromthebush, girlfromthebush for placing and maintaining The Island. We found it, signed it, and put it back as found. We were here at 1:34 pm on Friday

Granett was insistent that he knew where this one was, despite the coords saying something else.
Turns out he was right. Don’t tell him I said he was right though. Even a broken clock is right twice a day.
A camping trip has been way, way overdue. AlliedOz, Granett, Kyzabra and I have spent quite a few weeks planning, plotting and scheming a trip to get some of the lads a few more LGAs and a few caches for some challenges, and just to have a good pile of old fashioned fun.
We left at sparrows today, heading to just north of Cue to camp the night. AlliedOz and I were in one car, and Kyzabra and Granett in the other.
Our convoy headed north, stopping here and there to grab a cache or two.
boyfromthebush SVKR_WA is happy to have found your cache The Island today at 13:35:09 8 Nov 2019. This brings my find count to 3839
boyfromthebush - Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache for our enjoyment. We love travelling the state and visiting some places that we would only visit due to this game.

Heading up to Cue to log another LGA but don’t intend to drive past any of these interesting places on the way. We are really enjoying our tour of the area with you as our guides. Left a pathtag for our youngest grand daughter, Issy. Please log it so that we know where it's gone.TFTC boyfromthebush, girlfromthebush
Patch is on a mission so this was a spot to stop off and make a late afternoon grab and go. All's in great shape here thanks.
We are heading up north to see some of the wonderful sights our great State has, the amazing scenery, the interesting history, the local characters, it's wonderful to see this part of Australia through the eyes of the local Geocachers.
We called into this little gem of a spot, an Island that once had a thriving township,
in the middle of a salt lake, with a huge parking bay is now here at this GZ,
with the old car wreck here, 51 metres away.
Yes, the cache is definitely here at the car, with caching eyes wide open, we searched high and low and high again, we came up trumps with the cache in hand.
It is tucked away nicely so muggles wont see it.
We found your cache tucked away neatly, and with signing duties done and dusted, we replaced the cache as found.
Thanks for sharing this interesting spot.

Found with hints from previous logs. Glad to be travelling in more comfort than this would have availed. Well hidden. This was my 1300 find.
Found on a road trip with Team Outnabout taking in the Meeka races and places of interest along the way from Geraldton to Newman. The host is still in place and we concur with Beetles2 Co-ords some 65m East of GZ. TFTC.
Ninth day of our 'loop tour' to check out the wildflowers and pick up caches along the route.
Left Sandstone early and headed to Meeka basically for a look around as neither of us had been here before and to pick up the local caches. After finishing up in Meeka and Cue we headed to Mount Magnet for a couple of nights. Thankfully we read previous logs so knew something was very amiss at this location. Parking pull off has undergone an extensive up grade and the host camo is now 51 mts from the posted co-ords. Still took us a while to find the cleverly concealed Sistema. Thanks boy & girl from the bush

On a big round trip, heading up to my sisters in Newman and then across to Karajini Np, Tom Price and then to my Dad's in Carnarvon, to Shark bay and Monkey Mia, to Gerardton and back though Perth to Mandurah. Tftc.
Surprised that the host for this one is still here. You'd think it would have gone with the redevelopment here.
We found the cache at S27 38.200 E117 52.454
Hope this helps future searchers, and the cache is a small not a micro. Or that's what we found!!!
Thanks for another smiley boy and girl from the bush. Think this may be the last of yours we will get this trip.

No luck. Did not know if the coords had been upgraded but we searched the car.
It’s in/on the car people. It’s there!! I had my hands on it last week. I took coordinates but in the wrong format. E0586244 N6942742. Instead of degrees, minutes & seconds. Will update coordinates as soon as girlfromthebush helps me . Happy Geocaching
Woohoo couldn’t resist having a look for this one as the rest is open and the obvious hint object is still there! A nice little hide for us to find on our way to Cue after a lovely night bush camping TFTC
Truck bay currently under redevelopment. The item the cache resides in has been moved about 15 meters east. Will update coordinates as soon as construction is over. Sorry for the delay on this one as the truck bay is closed for now.
This trip through the Goldfields has been a while in the planning and the main mission was to collect caches in at least another 8 Local Government Areas to qualify for a challenge cache recently set up by megawatt60! I didn’t really have a plan on where I would be sleeping and was happy to throw the swag down once the daylight became in short supply. From Kalgoorlie I headed north as far as Leinster with a few deviations along the way. I then headed west through Mt Magnet and then meandered my way back towards Perth. I had GC and GCA caches lined up and tried to grab as many as I could while passing by. Cheers to all the CO’s for the hides and hopefully I can head back one day soon to clean up the caches I wasn’t able to find on this trip. TFTC

Part II from Meekatharra to York! Were we have planned 3 nights for exploring the Avon Valley! Of course we logged some caches to make the long way back enjoyable. Some caches were on beautiful spots. Thanks again to all the co's for placing!

I think we both did 2-3 laps before reading a few logs and then I made the find. Definitely a small.

We have visited Mount Magnet many times in the past but that was mainly to pick up supplies and help the owner of the pub to an early retirement. This time we are doing the tourist thing and really enjoyed this drive which we may not have done if these caches weren't here.
We pulled in here happy to see that there was no one else around as we don't always have a lot of luck with micro's on things like this but we thought that we would look anyway. We went right around once with no luck and then on our second lap we were thinking that this was going to be a dnf and then we felt something, certainly not what we were looking for but we were very happy to have a small container in our hands and now the log book contains our name.
Thanks for the cache and the history of the area, it's a shame that Austin didn't reap the rewards of his efforts.

We decided to read some logs on this cache and that gave us a few clues on what to expect. Even so, we managed to inspect quite a few wrong places first before locating the treasure we wanted. From here we headed back towards Mt Magnet as it was getting late in the day. Thanks to by boyfromthebush, girlfromthebush for this cache placement.

I pulled in at 10:45 to collect this one and immediately thought "Oh, no - a micro on a vehicle - again!!!" Luckily the container isn't actually a "micro" but a "small" and was to hand after only a few minutes. Another good cache, bftb, TNLNSL TFTC.
Day ten and eleven of Barnzy12 and Cravo10 adventure to the Northwest of WA, filling out boots with LGAs, rare DT, old caches, and good old fashioned red dirt!
Day 9 We travelled from Newman to Mount Magnet via Meekatharra, Wiluna, sandstone, cue and many a place in between to pickup a couple of harder to reach LGAs and get numbers up for the trip.
We were lucky enough to pickup four FTFs in Meekatharra that had managed to go unfound for a reasonable time so we nabbed all of them. A nice little stat to add to the list.
We made some large scale detours to Wiluna and Sandstone to pickup two more LGAs that are a little hard to pickup from our Perth homebase.
We racked up over 1000km for the day and finished up grabbing caches along the mount magnet tourist drive by torchlight to end an epic day.
Day ten saw us up at 5am to cleanup the granites series of caches, before making the 600 plus kilometre journey back to our home of Perth.
Overall it's been a huge trip with 200plus caches found, a dozen or so LGAs picked up, 6500km travelled, 11 days of non-stop caching and tourist activities, 6 FTFs, countless containers fixed, logs replaced, pathtags dropped off.
Thanks to all the COs for their caches which made the trip possible.

Spent a bit of time searching here, looking in all the likely places. For some reason, we did not look in the place where we finally located the cache. Thanks for a fun hunt in an interesting object.
Hi there boyfromthebush.
We found your cache **"The Island"** at 9:50:00 AM today. This cache makes our find count 14295.
We are traveling from Darwin to Geraldton via the inland route - Newman, Meekatharra, Mount Magnet, etc & thoroughly enjoyed our tour around the area today. Without geocaching as our guide we would never have found so many interesting places.
**Coordinate Accuracy:** We found this cache around two metres from where the GPS said we should be looking.
**Cache Condition:** The container and log book are in good shape.
**Took:** Nothing.
**Left:** Smiley Badge
Thanks for the hunt today,
Regards
Ian & Penny.

The wife reckon it was a good excuse to hunt for this one instead of trying to overtake the oversized load heading north

A few weeks ago we spent about 20 minutes trying to find this cache, gave up and left. Today we were back and after another 15 minutes was about to spit the dummy when my hand located a foreign object-yea. Thanks for another brilliant cache. How the heck we missed it the first time i have no idea.
