#4332 Today is day 47 of my geocaching vacation in New Zealand. I flew to Nelson for the weekend to get the last three regions of South Island. Found it! Quick one. Nice!andy.gail, thank you for the cache! -crystaloops from Taipei, Taiwan on November 16, 2024 @ 16:00:55[GC6J2NE] Olde Spark was a D2.0/T1.5 Micro Traditional Cache at the time of finding.
Armed with jandals and a chilly bin, a couple of Aussies headed across the ditch for a 3-week tiki tour, exploring the beauty of New Zealand.DAY 7: Nelson to Greymouth.Well this was a bit of fun. Targetted due to the number of favourite points. Another one heading your way. Thanks for showing us this special place by placing this cache, andy.gail tn koe~~
Deserves a favorite point from me what a cool cache thankyou! Quite enjoyed this one
#21415 @1235Out caching for the day with my two eldest grandchildren (SETEA). This took a while to eliminate normal options, and to decide to look more closely at something in particular. TFTC.
Now all repaired and ready to go.

This is my 50th cache for today -a goal the rest of the team insisted I get -I didnt even get a chance to argue the point. And a wonderful cache it was to end a great day with. It really tested our tired brains. I wish we had more like this in Wellington. Favourite given for its trickiness and because I like it.Day 2 of The Wellingtonians are back tour with TwigNZ, YetiNZ, Mr-Mcgoo. After the last trip, with more caches for us to find, we decided we had to return. And, of course, there will be days of laughter, usually at my expense During our time here, all found caches were signed as NMTY (regardless of whether 2, 3 or all 4 of us hadn't found it previously), or with individual names for Challenge Caches according to whomever was claiming the find.Kia ora rawa atu for the cache gdguys.
(# 8198) On a caching trip to the Nelson/Golden Bay area for a repeat trip for the four amigos. Day two of this trip took us from Takaka over the hill to Kaiteriteri, through Motueka and back to Nelson. Tripping with NZ_B, TwigNZ and YetiNZ. Another day full of hilarity with nobody being spared being the butt of the jokes. The last cache for the night at 0018 hrs. A very clever cache but unfortunately the crew damaged the container. CO was contacted. Signed the log with NMTY. Thanks gdguys for bringing me here.
Back in June, four Wellingtonians (NZ_B, Mr-Mcgoo, TwigNZ and YetiNZ) came down to visit the Nelson region. We had such a blast that we decided to do it again, and here we are!During our time here, all found caches were signed as NMTY (regardless of whether 2, 3 or all 4 of us hadn't found it previously), or with individual names for Challenge Caches according to whomever was claiming the find, which certainly applied to this cache.Day 2, and having spent 1 night in Takaka we are driving back down to Nelson via Kaiteriteri and Motueka and various stops along the way. By now we'd eaten some dinner in Motueka and were now heading down to our accommodation in Nelson, grabbing a few caches by the side of the road as we went...This would be our last cache for today. I genuinely can't remember whether we found it before midnight, after midnight... certainly we were at GZ trying to figure it out by torchlight for a good 20 minutes or so. Unfortunately for us, our group managed to damage the cache by accident, for which we are sorry . A very well done cache, and I'm happy to add to its haul of FPs.
Some time ago a group of us from Wellington decided that what we should do is come down to the Nelson region for a long weekend of Geocaching. So we did. We had such a good time that just a few months later we decided to do it again. The same team to the same location, with the same agenda. The only real goal for this four day break is exploring, having fun, and finding more of the unfound geocaches in the area.
Day two of this trip took us from the labyrinth rocks of Tākaka over the hill to Kaiteriteri, through Motueka and back to Nelson. We stopped at many caches along the way, and this was one of them.
Our last cache of the evening, and what an excellent one to finish on. One that the CO had recommended to me after our last visit to the region. We sat around and puzzled our way through the requirements. I'd like to say we figured it out quickly, but that is simply not true. Even worse, we did damage the cache as we figured it out, for which I am truly sorry. I have messaged the CO to let him know.
Most of our finds here we signed the log with the collective name of N.M.T.Y to represent the four of us: NZ_B, Mr-Mcgoo, TwigNZ, and YetiNZ.
---
Thanks to gdguys for placing and maintaining this cache. I enjoy each and every cache I find, and it is only with Geocachers like this creating them and placing them out in the world that this wonderful game continues.

Oh what a great way to start the morning So clever!! Love that you have to figure out multiple steps! LOVE IT! Thanks again for a great cache!
Checking out cache and discovered another "Dummy" log had been placed in the outer casing. This was removed, once more.
Please if you can't find the log don't, assume it's not there and replace it with another! It IS there you just have think outside the square. Enjoy.

Visiting friends in Mapua and stopped on the way for some caches. No problem spotting this as we parked. Grateful that we didn’t need any tools. Cache and log all fine. Thanks gdguys for a great smiley.

#11,367. I am geocaching around Nelson today before flying back to Wellington. Heading out towards Mapua direction for a challenge cache I ran out of time to sign yesterday. But picking up a few others along the way. Finally a chance to stop here and revenge a previous DNF. Last time I was too hasty and took the hint literally. Today having read some logs I knew I was in for a treat. This time the wires met and created a spark in an old head. So part one discovered. But where is the log. Down there. How to access. Tried a few things. Nothing. I had something in the car that would help but I had barely crossed the road when my muggle friend called out she had the log in hand. My tool also worked a treat but its not necessary. Everything you need is here. Signed the logbook and replaced the cache as found. Thanks gdguys for hiding it here. This is an excellent cache and I think would be in the top 10 best caches I have done.
I had a peek at this one on my way home and thought something was missing. I sent a message to the owner, and we met at the cx. It turned out the only thing missing was some brain cells between my ears.
There was a slight problem, but the CO is fixing this shortly. TFTC.

Very clever took a bit to find the log but my geo sense helped a lot and the hint a favourite point from me thank you for the cache
I'll start by saying we're giving this guy a FP. Once the meter reader left we headed on in for a look and discovered some interesting stuff. The first lot of interesting stuff was ruled out, then Mr NZH found something else cunning. After the first extraction we scratched our heads for a while, then realised what we needed to do Very cool, and quite muggle-proof I would have thought. TFTC
Soon found the hide but then took a while to work out where the log was.
Very clever !

On recommendation from the CO, this was on our list.
People, I say it again, do yourselves a favor. Come and get it!!!
Do not give up, and as per the CO, it's not the grey thing.
It's another goody!!!
Thanks for bringing us here!!!
Loved it and a big fat fave again!!

On checking this I found a "dummy log" inside and also a very old log sheet from some other cache. Really !!!!! What next , it has been removed and the cache is back to normal. Enjoy
No joy here. Think I was looking for something a bit more conventional than what I have since read in the cache description and logs. Did look around all the normal spots but seems I underated how tricky this one is. Looks like a another visit will be needed on a future trip to Nelson to reveal what weird and wonderful cache has been hidden at this location.
I felt a little exposed here even using the truck as cover - I had no idea this part of the world had a rush hour! Anyways, a little lateral thinking and I soon had the cache or did I? Hmmm, there's a bit more to this one. Very nicely made gdguys ... I enjoyed this, have a favourite point.
Heading into Nelson for a small trip across to Haul ashore Island and saw the road was clear. Pulled in and used the car as a nice shield and after doing the first stage i was a little puzzled. Had a spark moment and i soon had cache in hand . ll so simple when you work it out Thanks for the cache.
A drive into Nelson this morning to go to Haulashore Island - the road was quiet ao we stopped and Stretch0 figured out the system and log was soon obtained and signed - thanks for the cache
We had just found the most amazing “Valve with a View” cache nearby, and the CO had come to join us as we’re over from the UK. He pointed us to this further cache of his by the busy SH60 and watched as I sat on the ground and puzzled out how to do it. I’m not going to give anything away because it would be wrong but I will simply say if you’re passing by on the SH60 park up and do this one. You can actually park your car right between the road and the cache so you can be private while you fiddle. Another certain favourite point. Thank you so mjuch Peter for making our day so much fun!!
The very kind CO brought us to this as he is very proud of it! And no wonder! How could I fail to FP this ingenious construction..... TFTC
Awesome!
Friends from Ireland and Spain came for a visit and didn't know about Geocaching, so I showed them some caches. Although this one is pretty close from home, I never stopped here. But noticed the fav points and thought that might be a nice one to show them.
I let her make the find, but she said she would have NEVER looked there, less figured out how to get it. Ok, I agree, probably not easy as a first find, but definitely great to impress.
Sure they are hooked now

**Cache Specific Log**
We didn't have a chance to swing by here yesterday so attempted today. We weren't really sure what we needed to do or to find and had a lot to do today before the ferry departs for the North Island.
**Generic Trip Log**
A wedding anniversary to celebrate - provides a convenient excuse for a longer than usual vacation. So 3 weeks and travel to Australia and New Zealand sounds like an excellent plan. General itinerary is as follows:
2 October: Depart from home with a layover in Houston, TX
4 October (long flight + time zones = lost day): Arrive in Sydney
4-7 October: Sydney
7-15 October: New Zealand South Island
16-21 October: New Zealand North Island
21-23 October: Sydney
23 October: Fly home through Vancouver, Canada
Saw a ton and had an absolutely wonderful time. Can't wait to make it back here!

Had a maintenance check on OS and all good will need a new log shortly as this original one getting full, enjoy.
Yay, we found it, finally! It was actually quite easy with Miss Eke5, it's a good hide. I solved the second half of it.

Well, we were back in the area today with Eke5 who are visiting us from the Wairarapa. We had this cache on our Must Do list as we'd been fooled with a bit of a red herring last time. While Mrs Eke5 and I wrapped up our conversation in the car, spacenarwhale and Miss Eke5 hopped out, opened it up and solved the cache! They were so fast that after we signed the log we did the whole find again to make sure we all knew how it worked!
Thank you for a fun cache!
Thank you for a fun cache!
3Prettys couldn't this cash and that was another find with spacenarwhale the parents were still talking in the car figuring the clue out and we yelled "FOUND IT!!" they asked how we did it and they were impressed! So me and spacearwhale thought it was a great! find.
Have tried for this in the past without locating. Back today with a friend and after a bit of trying, extracted the log. Nicely done. TFTC
Had a call from 3Prettys who were sure what they had found had to be wrong. It certainly was, two previous cachers thought the was something missing so popped in a piece of paper to make a log! Sorry the log was always, there , you just have to find it. So thank you 3Prettys the 'paper' has been removed, and welcome you back next time in Nelson.
We thought we'd found this today, but after reading previous logs and talking with the CO it seems that someone has left a bit of paper as an easier to find, non-official log. Therefore, we have deleted our found log and will try again the next time we are in the area.
If there were an award for cache name I would nominate this one. Very clever!

A very very clever field puzzle. Located the place but couldn't budge anything. Macwatt was more positive and soon had the appropriate tool in hand and after some experimenting had the correct technique. Well executed cache. Thanks for bringing us here gdguys
Very clever and well engineered cache...a man of my own heart lol ...soon had the log signed ...very busy road thanks gdguys well done love these type of caches
This is a great cache! Not only a box in the landscape. We enjoyed this one so much! Fav point! Thanks to CO.
Down from Northland, visiting the South Island on a 7 day caching and sight seeing trip. The main object was to find the last four CANZ caches, finish off my D/T grid, fill as many spaces as possible in my Jasmer grid and then concentrate on special types, solved puzzles, completed challenges and those with good numbers of favourite points, plus maybe a few extras that were close to any of our stopping points.
The trip started off on a good note, with our rental cache mobile being little more than a week old and only 109 kms on the clock. It certainly had a few more by the time we returned it..!
Day five today and heading off from Nelson to Westport. Unfortunately, due to the devastating fires in Pigeon Valley, we had to detour via Motueka and the valley road. Not a problem though, as we weren't on a time schedule and it meant we were able to see more of the Tasman area and pick up a few caches we otherwise would not have.
This one with good FPs sounded interesting, and possibly similar to one of my own. Once parked up, GZ was quickly identified, but I was really impressed with the construction of the cache and what was required to access the log. A definite fave here from me. TFTC

Located cache fairly quickly, but extracting log took a lot of thought. A very clever cache! Many thanks for giving us a challenge. MattyH from Tassie
On our way to the next location, Grey mouth, we had to look for an 'o' for a challenge. This was just the right cache and we had joy to solve this riddle. Very well done! Favourite point from us.

Found yesterday with my daughter but had to go home to think out how to retrieve cache with the equipment that was their. The light went on so revisited today on the way to airport. Bingo we had the cache in hand. Very clever and thank you.
Very very clever! It took us thinking overnight how to do it! No extra tools needed. Thank you!

#16042. Tried the obvious retrieval technique, but that didn't work. Read some logs indicating some finders needed additional tools, but that wasn't going to work for us (just had carry on luggage on the flight from CHC). Then Troodles noticed something and we then twigged as to how to use the tools provided to retrieve the cache. Brilliant! TFTC.
Found with StreetWalker on day one of our long weekend visit to Nelson.
Location of cache was quickly found, but how to retrieve? We had a think, and SW tried something which didn't work. We wished we had brought our TOTTs with us but with carry on luggage only, we had limited space only.
Then I noticed something, and soon we had the cache in hand. Ha-ha, very nicely constructed. The highlight of the day, and amongst some very good competition. TFTC.

Taybeedragon and I are in Nelson taking some stress off a later trip to Christchurch to hunt for the elusive turtle. I thought this section of the cycle way might be a could place to find the dragon that hopefully will give us some tips to finding that turtle. Well, we found that dragon, but the turtle, as expected, is proving to be a problem. I don't think it is here in Nelson.
So it went like this: Found the cache! I think. Yep, found it! Hang on... Oh. Um. Hmm. Hang on, lucky I brought my full cache kit. Ah, got it. No I don't. Got it! Damn. Ahh, there we go!" The trials and tribulations of retrieving a tricky little blighter!

The Seagnoid, Toby and I are off to Nelson to hopefully find some hidden creatures along our way. Its an early start out of Blenheim just after 6am. Weather forecast is for rain , but its stayed mostly fine for our cycle along the estuary making it a pleasant cycle. Its mid afternoon now and the rain has arrive, but we want another couple of caches. So Toby lets go!
Found this one but fishing it out was an interesting experience. The tricky little blighter kept slipping away. OK The seagnoid arranged for a bigger hooky device to try and convince this way to show himself. Finally hooked him for tagging. Cheers.

TregearP and I had 'found' this one previously but left logging until this weekend as the high number of favourites means it earns maximum points for the current challenge.
We visited again this afternoon and played a 'strategic' park such that car body obscured vision from one direction and the open passenger door did the same from the other.
Formalities quickly completed. All in good order and another very nicely constructed cache Mr gdguys. Another FP for your efforts, and thanks for the cache.

Another cleverly designed cache including fail safe to mitigate risk of inverted return. We'd scoped out the cache prior to the planetary pursuit but delayed retrieve until today due to muggle activity and aiming for max points. SJT_NZ positioned the car for maximum shield ops and I went in for the retrieve. All in very good order, TFTC
Over from Melbourne visiting Jay’s family and grabbing the occasional cache on our travels. Very sneaky hide. TFTC.
Checked out and everything you need is still there and working well. Enjoy a different cache. Cheers
Down in Nelson for a 10 day holiday and one of our annual big treks in the wilderness somewhere in NZ. Found the cache hide. But the equipment was not strong enough so we had to introduce our own tool set to capture this one.
Thanks to the CO for putting us back on track with this one. We returned today and did what we should have done the first time. Thanks for such a fun and clever hide. A definite favoutite point from us.
Think we may have done this one wrong after reading the clue and some previous logs. We found the cache but the log seemed to be missing so we added a replacement.
Looks now like we only half completed what needed to be done. Oops, we're happy for you to delete our log if we didn't do enough.

Down from Auckland for the long weekend visiting parents. A very clever cache on the way back from lunch in Motueka. Needed a little prompting from dad but got there in the end. Have a favourite from me. TFTC!
We got here early enough that the traffic wasnt much of a problem. We found the container quite quickly but our tool wasnt strong enough so we dug around in the car to find the biggers ones. Nice hide and worth a fav. Thanks for placing the cache and adding to our smilies
when I first opened the cache I thought it was broken, but a quick read of the logs told me it was a tricky one, so change my thought to working out this cleaver cache well done and a favorite from me, thanks gdguys I like this sort of cache
Yet another fantastic cach by Gdguys. Found the cach esely enough opened it esely then the thinking started. found what I was looking for but what I was looking for wasn't at the end of what I had found time for sume more thinking.if you think long enough then what you are looking for will be at the end of what you have found. TFTC
Quick find of the holder, had to think a bit to get at the log. Knew gdguys cache would be a challenge. Impressive. Thanks for the cache.
Found this today and it is such a well crafted cache. We had access to the pull thing but were unable to locate a log to sign until of course we had help from a very clever friend. Many thanks for the extra thinking. It is certainly a favourite for us.
Easy drive up and safe parking by the GZ. Clever, clever camo and hide. Coming up with the log was proving fiddly until I added a trusty olde paper clip to the mix. Have left such in place with apologies to the CO if it's not wanted (but it does make retrieval much easier...). TFTC - a favourite for sure when I've points available again!
Our last cache to find after attending an event on Rabbit Island. Stopped, and found it on the way to the event, but couldn't extract the log, so we thought there must be a part missing! But at the event, we were informed that, it was indeed, all there!!! So Two-atara took us back there, and after a bit of looking at it, we figured it out! Very creative! Gets a FP! Thanks for challenging us!
