Visiting friends in the area taking the opportunity to gather a few caches

11-Apr-24
This week we are staying at the Quest in town and our apartment looks over the Dan Murphys car park. Its one of my favourite shops and a theme park for adults yet we havent been there. Each day weve been picking up a couple of bottles from a cellar door or brewery. Its sad and funny that every morning at 9am I see the regular rascals lined up for the doors to open. Surely the staff know them by name. tftc

Exploring rural Victoria as part of the SPINZ team: Sidewaze, paddle chick, Isis58 and Nanzie from New Zealand. I’m really enjoying the landscape and seeing what goes on in this neck of the woods. All the different eucalypts, the pepper trees and other interesting plants. The colourful birds, some quite noisy and some very noisy. The many vistas - - beautiful in sunlight and shade. I loved visiting each and every cache and really appreciate the effort required to hide and maintain them. Thanks to the cache owners. Greetings from Aotearoa / New Zealand, happy caching and if you have yet to visit us across the ditch to see what we have to offer, do make sure you enter such a visit on your “to do” list.

Somewhere along this road we came across an echidna making its way across the road. That was very special but by the time we all had our cameras out it had burrowed its head in the dirt and leaf litter - still amazing to see it up close. TFTC # 19,040

Hi BettyBoo3747, I found Rail Trail Ahead today. There’s some extraordinarily unusual mushrooms should I say toadstools in this area.
Dropped a TB to continue its journey.

Many thanks BettyBoo3747 for providing and maintaining this game piece for our enjoyment.

Our final day in Wangaratta after attending the recent Mega.
We had intended to hit the trails by bike but although the day was cooler, it was still quite muggy and we haven't ridden much lately. Another time!
So we headed out in the car and worked on a variety of caches. Some from the rail trail and others in surrounding areas. Again we came across a variety of caches.
Our thanks to Geocaching Victoria for organizing the Mega and to local cachers that have given us so many to look for. We've got plenty more to do, so we'll be back!

Thank you for your efforts in creating and maintaining the cache BettyBoo3747.

Attending the Wangaratta Mega weekend with the ladies of FurfacesLL, we collected heaps of caches and saw many scenic views along the way. Today we were back on the bike trail, we had a mix of heat, rain, humidity, mozzies and flies.

Picking up where we left off on Friday and it was time to continue our travels.

Thanks to the CO for the cache placement for us to all enjoy. Thanks to the FFLL ladies for a fun filled trip away Big Grin

Day 4 of the Wangaratta Mega with Rapidlywild.

Today we decided to head early to try and beat the heat and call into Beechworth first to do one of the labs there and then it was back onto the trail with the bikes. Decided to finish off these drive by ones first.

Another quick find here and no issues.

Thanks for the hide and maintaining BettyBoo3747

As a member of TeamOZCAT logged in this cache, I am now logging as an individual predominantly to avoid any mistaken/unnecessary revisitation.
Under groundspeak guidelines, this logging is acceptable as I was indeed at Cache GZ in person in recent times. However, all cache owners have the right to delete logs as they see fit. Usually done to "Armchair loggers" or inappropriate texting.

If any cache Owner/s have questions regarding this matter, please feel free to contact.

TeamOZCAT logged finds when both Karen and Reg logged as individuals. This logging is exactly the same, only in reverse. Again, groundspeak acceptable.
For an unspecified period of time TeamOZCAT are no longer cache searching but remain active in our cache management and maintenance.

I sincerely thank all CO's and wish you all the best in your endeavours. Cheers Karen

We departed Wodonga early morning for Wang and make use of a full day. After some shopping and a coffee in town, we headed off to Everton with the goal to take on board various caches Roadside/Rail Trail and Diffy Rd. Many thanks to all cache owners and all those caches found were in a sound condition. All in all, we had a joyful day and as usual, regardless of any forecast, this Team brings out the best of weather. Again, thanks kindly cache owners.

Found the newly replaced cache all shiny and new, signed the log to celebrate number 23 for this geo family today.

05-Nov-18
The finding device was leading me around but there was really only a couple places to look. Eventually I found it. It was where I first looked, I just couldn’t see! Just needed to focus more. There were a couple of trees here that made me think they were Queensland Bottle Trees. Later I saw a lot growing beside a river. They may be a weed tree.

03-Nov-18
Was contacted by a couple of cachers who could not locate the hide and Rob checked this for me today. Gone, muggled along with all the camouflage. Cache now replaced. All good again, for now!

01-Nov-18
Sure we had the right spot but think it might have slipped out of reach. CO messaged. Thanks anyway

01-Nov-18
Thought we had found this one as we found telltale signs but no luck today. CO contacted and replied quickly.

Called past to re-check this one today. Despite some kind silicone placement provided recently I decided to do a swap over of the container. Picked up the pink pig TB to move along. All good here.

Long arm tool needed for this one. A short arm would not do.

02-Sep-18
First magpie swoop for the season here today. It’s quite an aggressive bird flying overhead but didn’t hit our bicycle helmets.

Container was broken and happened to have some silicon with us (no idea why!!!!!!) so put a bit on. TFTC

28-Aug-18
The container may have been in "good nick" two weeks ago, but I doubt it! Checked it today and it was damp inside with a crack to the container. Will call again soon and replace the container. Log book fine and dry.

16-Aug-18
Not far from Everton now and we stopped nearby GZ to have a look around and try for this one.
The caches along the road here do work in their attempt to show off the area to the casual visitor. The views along Diffey Rd. towards the south are amazing.
Certainly for a geocacher the Rail Trail and associated caches were why we were here, but the sights are well worth the trip.
SL at 2.20pm. The container found in good nick.
One more along here before heading to the east. TFTC BettyBoo3747.

As a non-bike rider, I have been slowly working through the rail trails around Beechworth by walking them (and there are plenty more to do). Like the HSS Basketball, the “Everton Triangle” has attracted my eye as it offered the opportunity to walk a route and not have to walk back the same path (and then get caches the whole way). Didn’t realise the last leg was actually a road, but in the time I walked this I saw one bike rider so was all good. Wasn’t too busy – saw three bikes and a dog walker getting the 3 HSS at the start, 5 bikes from there to Everton and no-one on the leg between Everton and Diffey Road. The geohound enjoyed the walk – in the end we did the 9 (or so) kilometres in just under 2.5 hours. In this time I got 23 finds and 1 DNF (which may be there) and help me achieve my first 50 cache day. Thanks to BettyBoo3747 for putting these caches out. Plenty of good birds calling as well – I have listed a few at individual caches.

A quick heavy find - was getting through them quickly by now.

Today is the 9th of June long weekend of 2018 and I managed to ride a bike for the first time in 15 years to find a heap of the Rail Trail caches with Joolay, Kitty Katch, Strangetrousers and several others. We signed the logbook as a group under the name Capital Crunches to save space on the logs. We had several DNFs along the way but most of the caches were easy and quick finds. Spotted two rabbits, millions of birds and heaps of farm animals. It was amazing, Thanks for all the caches and sorry for the generic log for this cache but with so many caches in one day it would be too hard to write a different one for each cache. I have included my Geocaching poem within my log for you and anyone else to read. I hope you all enjoy the poem and geocaching as much as I do.

I found this cache on one of the three days caching in this area. Strangetrousers and I collected about 20 caches including a multi, puzzles, an Earthcache and Traditionals before heading back to Canberra and real life (Sadly).

Geocache Poem
By DARKSIDEDAN

My endless search goes on and on
Looking for treasures of every kind
Always chasing just one more find
Putting past DNF’s out of my mind

I step out into the world outside,
Seeking what is hidden from me
What size, shape or form will it be?
Only time will tell, I can’t wait to see

Will I find my prize at the end?
I will search in the failing light and cold
Filling with despair having looked everywhere
Where is this thing that gives my life pleasure?

Looking all around from every angle
I read the logs and check the hint
I curse out loud as I walk in circles
Screaming the bloody thing it not there

As time flies by and I fail to see,
Never once stopping to realize
It always been there before my eyes
No need for sorrow, there’s the Geocache.

***** I am currently writing detailed logs because of a challenge provided by Project-GC. "The Author" Badge challenges geocachers to average one hundred words or more in each log. As of today the 9th June 2018 my average was 70 words per log, which seems close to the 100 target. However given that I have found so many GC caches, I have to write many logs with well over 100 words for a long period of time to get my average to the target. Apologies to anyone who finds the logs tedious but it is the only way that I can strive to attain this challenge. After almost 3000 plus caches (which includes all cache finds up and including yesterday), the average log length is just over 70 words. I am now entertaining the possibility that I might be able to achieve my task before this year ends. Progress has been better than anticipated.*****

#4189 5th for today

Day 3 of our MMRT trail ride weekend at Beechworth/Wanagaratta. Today DarkSideDan & I grabbed a few caches we missed on the trail and checked out Beechworth before heading back. It was great to grab a few challenge caches while in the area on another perfect day. Loved the gorge, but caches in there were quite hard work.

We started back out at Everton to grab a few we missed yesterday.

Thanks to the COs: BettyBoo3747

On the final day of the long weekend of caching, Gunks and I hit the trail early at 630. Grabbing 25 cache while cycling along the trail before returning to Beechworth for brekky. Picked up a couple more before hitting the other end of the trail. Became too hot before we could finish so headed to Mt Buffalo for a scenic viewing and a couple more cache. Great caches. Thanks for taking the time to set them all up.

12-Nov-17
An early start today, up at 6am, pack everything out of the cabin and get into Beechworth and on the trail as early as we could. Planned to cycle for 90min away form Beechworth collecting cache, then back for cafe breaky at 9am, was yummo! Then we collected a few cache on the way to the other end of todays Trail adventure whic was the triangle. We did the Triangle buT the temp was getting up into the high twenties so we decided not to complete the trail on bikes. This is fine, it means we have to come back! We then headed on a little adventure to the to of Mt Buffalo, did a few short walks and picked off a few more. Such stunning views up here, cant wait to get back already. Fantanstic effort by the CO's, just about every cache was in great condition. TFTC.
