Not so much of a DNF, as a "could not find any easy way of getting to GZ".
I suspect that the local vegetation has grow a lot since this cache was placed, and now you would want to be wearing a fair bit of protection from Blackberry and cutty grass for a cache that is only a 1.5/1.5.
So we came, we looked, we tried a few different approaches to get to GZ, and then we decided it simply wasn't worth it and moved on.

Found while spending several days in the Turangi area with the Hutt Valley Tramping Club including livingk and gpetone walking and cycling some of the local trails. TFTC
Found with Pat&John and gpetone after a walk up to Ketetahi springs. Excellent day. Some careful negotiation amongst blackberry required. The top of the Hint no longer apparent. TFTC
Not an easy bushbash by livingk and Patandjohn for a find with little sign of the hint there. Driving back from an HVTC tramp to Ketetahi.

Day 2 of my week long road trip of geocaching, camping and seeing a few bands. Today I left Wanganui early(ish) headed for the Dickey Flat campsite and one of the remaining old school caches. For the first time I am using the cachetur.no website and app to plan out my caching, and it's proving to be a handy wee tool.
Took a while to fight my way through the prickles to get here, and cache was on the ground. Replaced wedged into the tree. TFTC

Took a bit of finding hear is the description implied that the cash is a 1 litre sistema? It definitely isn’t! thank you for bringing us to such a peaceful place with some lovely views, and for the history. SL. TFTC.
Found with a sister during our expedition to NZ (from CZ), where we explored part of the North Island and could visit our classmates and friends that we have not seen for several years, as it is here, in Auckland and Napier live ... Thank you for cache ...

Stopped for some views and to try and add a cache. We succeeded! TFTC.

A wedding anniversary to celebrate - provides a convenient excuse for a longer than usual vacation. So 3 weeks and travel to Australia and New Zealand sounds like an excellent plan. General itinerary is as follows:
2 October: Depart from home with a layover in Houston, TX
4 October (long flight + time zones = lost day): Arrive in Sydney
4-7 October: Sydney
7-15 October: New Zealand South Island
16-21 October: New Zealand North Island
21-23 October: Sydney
23 October: Fly home through Vancouver, Canada
Saw a ton and had an absolutely wonderful time. Can't wait to make it back here!

After searching all cabbage trees in the area and avoiding human excrements, we finally read the logs to find out that the original container was gone and that the tree had died. CO please maintain the description and the container and place in an area that does not serve as toilet stop. Thanks those before us who put the temporary cache.
Out on a very sunny day exploring the area. The views near the cache are wonderful looking over the lake to Tongariro. The cabbage tree has died but still standing so it is not a difficult find. Thanks yorkshirekiwi83.
I am traveling with my daughter Lucinka mundlinka and son Negrritos across the New Zealand. We are from Prague, Czech Republic. We love "geocaching", the main target is caches )
Many beautiful caches, amazing and unforgettable experiences, thank all owners, TFTC )

I have put in a small pill black bottle in fork with waterproof paper log. As this site is worth seeing as you pass.
The cabbage tree no longer has canopy leaves so you don't see the leaves above. Follow gps and geo trail no cutty grass ..

Thanks to a coincidence of various events I was in the area on a spacesaver, but that has not stopped me before, so I went on to find a few on the way back to my accommodation, and I mean on the way in geocaching terms A very slow find of a rather sad cache, now consisting only of a bagged soaked logbook, no container. TFTC!!
Haben uns in die Büsche geschlagen, aber auch dort nicht gefunden. Eine "Black Duck" folgte uns darauf hin zum See und auch wieder zurück und das war dann doch noch schön.
IWe were heading home before the heavy rain set in - too late! I am calling this the "second-hand" cache. The weather was "second-hand", the cabbage tree was "second-hand" (dead), the log was very "second-hand" (in plastic bag under tree with no other container and logbook was a mush - replaced with waterproof but sorry no container with us) and a muggle car pulled up as I was signing the log in his "second hand" car (had damage all down the passenger side). Thanks for the placement yorkshirekiwi83.
Interesting area ...geo caching takes you to some great spots ...the weather was stink and the poor old cache was rather second hand ....dropped in a small weather proof log but sorry no container with us ...Thanks Yorkshirekiwi83 for the placement and bringing me to this spot
Staying at the Chateau Tongariro and out for a drive, grabbing caches as we go.
Parked up and checked out the reserve. Was a little disappointed with the lack of info on the site proper.
Back to the car park and looked at the base of the dead cabbage tree and found a soaking wet cache. It is not in a container so not sure what’s happening here. Log to wet to sign so photographed log book and can send to CO if required.
Thanks for the placement yorkshirekiwi83.

There was no cache - just the very wet log book in a plastic bag. Added a dry logsheet as we couldn't write in the book.
Log booked soaked, so couldn’t write in it. Fabulous place, and a beautiful sunny day. Tftc
Found log book but container missing
Managed to sign book and place back at hint site, but book very wet

After attending the Feilding ANZAC dawn service to commemorate the sacrifices of previous generations and heading home for breakfast, I was at a bit of a loss of what to do for the rest of the public holiday. I came up with a bit of a plan today, with a special cache for my 4000th find and a few more around the central plateau.
I arrived at the mountain and found it to be a beautiful day. Despite the car telling me that it was about 11 degrees, it was very warm in the sun.
Another quick find here and I could continue on my way. Need to stop to make a plan for the rest of the afternoon soon. TFTC

Today we are travelling from the Waikato to Feilding for a grandson's birthday, stopping for a few caches along the way, as you do. Once we reached Turangi we saw the sign advising that the Desert Rd was closed, so we had to hastily update our list of caches, adding a bunch from the other side of the mountains. Opataka was our first stop. We remember doing another cache here way back in 2009 when we first started caching. There was another car in the parking area when we arrived, but it left soon after thankfully. Never a good look to jump out of a campervan and dive into the bushes!
The hint item is not doing so well, but the cache was still a quick find, thanks.

Difficult when you don’t know what a Cabbage Tree looks like but the Co-ords were good and we had a quick find . TFTC.
On our tour of New Zealand should be sought in addition to the visit of beautiful natural landscapes and caches. We visited this historic place. The cache was found well.

A quick find while travelling road to Taupo. An interesting historic site. Tftc. MattyH from Tassie
An interesting place for a quick stop and a nice cache as well. Dropped off a Tb we have brought with us from the UK. It would like to visit as much as possible in your wonderful country. Tftc
On our way to National Park to take father in law for birthday lunch. Just a quick stop here but my phone was running out of battery and the navigation function wasn't working properly. However we soon spotted a geotrail in the general vacinity and the intrepid Mr Tparty soon emerged victorious from the shrubbery. TFTC.
Found in the pouring rain. Heading towards Rotorua after being in the Tongariro region for a few days. TFTC
We’re on a family holiday for a few days, based at Turangi, but the weather is atrocious and not fit for outdoor activities including geocaching. However, we took a trip to National Park to claim a precious Virtual there, so braved the very wet conditions to stop here too. Mr G and a muggle family member were the intrepid ones who went for it. After struggling through some wet shrubbery the cache itself was easily located. It would be interesting to take the walk down to the historic site, but not today! TFTC
We had to wait a little because another car drove by and it took a while unless they got all their stuff collected to go on a walk. Then the area was peaceful and we started to find the best approach to the coords. Not very easy. Quite some plants here. In between some doubts, has not been found for a while. But then - there it is. mmmmike had to collect some organic stuff from my clothes afterwards, but I can confirm that the cache is still there and in good shape.
Thanks for the box!
Thanks for the box!
Nice and quiet here today which helped to locate the cache without muggles to work around. Haven't been here for a couple of years, was good to return. TFTC!!
Got a bit wet climbing in there after all the rain. But enjoyed the cache. Thanks. CBE from UK
Found this one quickly but there we could hear some muggles coming so had to be fast! Easy find, TFTC
On our way to the Mountains we stopped off over here for a quick find. Had been here for another cache many years ago. Did with Mycro Man. Thanks for the cache.
On my way back to Auckland after leaving Tramper Ted at National Park to seek out a Wellington bound train. Thanks yorkshirekiwi83, accurate coordinates yet again.
Quick find, it was lying in the middle of the geotrail. Tucked it back in as per the clue.

Day #15 in New Zealand on a geocaching holiday-trip covering Thailand, Australia and finally my beloved NZ .
Today’s pleasant trip with mixed weather-conditions took me further up north from Tongariro National Park [:X] to Rotorua .
Had to say goodbye to ‘HIM’: Mount Ruapehu [8)]. Today he showed up again - with grey skies, but visible!
But I was also looking forward to visit the thermal highlight city [^] .
Of course there were some cool treasures hidden along the route, that I loved to pick up .
Ended up with 18 finds , including two great earth-caches [^], a cool, challenging virtual and several handsome traditional caches at the side of the road . Cool!
What a nice box at the side of the lake! [^]
Hey - owners on the way up north and in Rotorua - you have cool caches [^] !
A big thanks [:X] to all Owners involved [^] for hiding and maintaining .
Cheers from Germany

Our last geocache of the holiday weekend spent camping at the south end of the mountain. Thanks for bringing us here and thanks for the cache.
doing a clean up of caches this way that I have been wanting to do for a little while, as we needed to pick up kaleb a day trip was the perfect time, started out at 7.30am and got home about 8pm one thing us geocachers understand is that is it is never a quick trip when there is caching involved, thanks for the placement sorry about the copy and paste logs but it was getting hard to remember some of them. thanks for the placement we have enjoyed stopping at every single one.
With little blue hen we made a rapid trip to Turangi and back to celebrate a friend getting as old as we are. Found time to sneak a fewcahes on the way there and back. TFTCSL
