We did the Taraniki Falls track. We loved the splendid views and found the caches on this trail. The logsheets where damaged, so we couldnt get all the information. We tryed a few things, but no luck
Today, together with Schatoh68, I made a stunning caching-tour in the Tongariro National Park. This cache-bonus has to be taken thanks!
Together with Birba68 we walk today to the Taranaki falls. This nice little cache-round, was perfect for us. We found all the Caches very easy, but the lookbook of the most are rallye full. In some Cache the number for the Bonus is missing, with logic is possible to find the bonus. Thank you
Quick and easy find here while on a trip away with tmann421.Log signed tm/ww NZTFTC
On our Taranaki Falls round tour we could find all Caches of this series. We were missing 3 variables but have been able to extrapolate and were lucky to spot this Bonus there.I am not that familiar with the history of the rings but the round was beautiful and finding a cache here and there was really fun.Thank you for this series!
During our two-month trip through New Zealand and Australia, we arrived yesterday in Tongariro National Park. The weather is beautiful and we are going for a nice walk.Once we have found most of the clues we can determine where the bonus cache is located. This bonus cache was found there in a nice spot.**yorkshirekiwi83**, thanks for the cache.
We are currently on a eight week holiday which is mostly spent in New Zealand and Australia. However, the first three days were spent in Signapore as a nice break from an otherwise long flight. Yesterday we drove to Tongariro National Park from Wellington. Part of our team is hiking the Tongariro Crossing. We are lucky because the weather looks good. Mostly blue sky, some clouds, some sun and a nice temperature. Unfortunately the hike it just too much for the other half of the team. Not worries, there are plenty of other beautiful, less difficult and though walks around here. Also as LOTR fans we just had to visit the caches of this series. All the still active caches were found and the hints for the bonus were collected. Allthough missing three bonus numbers with some thought we managed to get plausible coords where we indeed found this cache. Thank you very much for this series.
After finding all the enabled coaches bar LOTR1 (not attempted) we were still missing three digits but a bit of logic was applied and a potential location identified. Thankfully logic worked and we found the cache. Really enjoyed our 6km walk today. Favourite given for series. Tftc and greetings to Yorkshire kiwi from East Yorkshire
We startetd the day with the Taranaki Fall Trail in Tongariro National Park incl the reaminng LOTR caches in this area. In the afternoon we arrived in Otorohanga where we still the next night. It was a good decision to get up earlier and go for the trail at 8:15am. When we finishe dthe 6km walk the sun was burning and it was quite warm. We enjoed some parts in the shadows with fresh air in the woods and nice views at Mount Doom. Except the disabled cache we foudn all reamining LOTR caches - unfortunately some of them are not in a good shape and many logbooks are quite full. Nevertheless we were happy to walk through Mordor and came back safe. After 2 hours we arrived at the bonus cache and found that one as well. Thanks for hiding and maintaining the cache.Happy hunting!TFTCschnuckel1[#24187]
Yesterday, I got the news that the Shuttle Service for the Tongariro Alpine Crossing Had been canceled due to the heavy Wind. So I had been looking for Plan B which I found quickly: Hiking the Tama Lakes Tramping Track, 17km Return about 5 to 6 hours. As this track is an extension of the Taranaki Falls Track, I was sure to find some nice caches all along the way up to Tama Lakes and back. I was looking forward to visiting the LOTR villains caches which all could be found. Although the logbooks are quite full and some bonus information is missing. Nevertheless, the Bonus was managable and a quick find! The Track, the Lake and the area are stunning. What a wonderful area! We are enjoying looking around New Zealand, full of wonderful places, landscapes and attractions. And so its always good to come across some caches when visiting new places.Thank you to all Cache owners for the caches and their maintenance and making this a wonderful around the world hobby.Thank you for this cache and greetings from Germanyaussi96
TFTC! I found all 10 catches in the series, but was missing some of the coordinates for the bonus. However, utilizing the hint, I was able to find the bonus and sign the log! Thanks for a great series
Last in the loop and the only puzzle cache today. Glad for the final coordinates from a previous finder, cheers Simon. All good here and replaced as found, shame the path tag was only the wrapper! .
Here from the U.S. and enjoying the hike to and from the waterfall. I had only 1 DNF in the LOTR series. I had to use some special geo-math, especially for B, to get the bonus coordinates. A fav for the series! Thanks for the fun!
Favo for the total track
Yesterday it was very cloudy and rainy so we decided to gamble, to do this track now, before leaving the region. We were lucky with the nice warm sun.
The complete month march I am travelling on both Islands. Christchurch heading south, next the westcoast.
AbelTasman-Wellington-Rotorua-Hahei and finally Auckland.
This was one of the caches I found; thanks for showing me the area.

I was unable to find A, B, and H, but I was able to figure A and B based on the other cache locations nearest to parking. Then I used the check sum to get H. TFTC!
We had some trouble collecting the bonus after the nice round. We couldn't find one can on the way, and we forgot to look for the bonus number in another one. With the collected values, we built a solution using the checksum, but it was not in the expected target area.
In the end, we were able to find the box thanks to cacher instinct and with the help of prelogs. Yay!
The value for B also irritated us a lot afterwards. Nevertheless, thank you for the beautiful accompaniment along the Taranaki Falls track!

Almost gave up with the coordinates but after some trial and error and checking the sum and location. I was able to figure it out its easier than you think so many cool caches in the box. Thanks for this awesome adventure
Hello,
we are really lucky with the weather and in the early morning we treated ourselves to a two-hour walk!
The destination was Middle-earth and the Taranaki Falls!
A nice round with great views and the path is beautiful!
Finally we found the ring!

We found this cache today, but not after some hard work. The condition of these caches varies, so here’s our experience to try and help others:
We did not try the Cave Troll cache after previous logs. We also did not find Balrog or Shelob. Nazgul we found, but with a small log fragment. It didn’t have any numbers on it, we weren’t sure if it was supposed to or not.
When all that was said and done, we had all but A and B. We were able to figure these out using the checksum on the cache page and comparing the numbers with the last cache. That gave us a coordinate that was right on the trail, and indeed that’s where the cache was!

This was a great series of caches. sadly some are no longer there but still doable if you do some problem solving and then make an educated guess. I made the mistake of doing the coordinates in decimal format so make sure you don't make that mistake. FYI you don't need to drive to get the final cache (that may help if you are trying to solve without all numbers)
Between two rain shower I did the Taranaki Falls circle.
The falls are great.
The cache is not well maintained, A and B is missing and the Owner does nothing. Also new Logbooks where not a luxury.
Thanks.

Today we hiked along the Taraniki Falls Walking Trail.
We searched and found all 11 Tradis. The hints were very helpful. The bonus numbers for A and B were missing. But we have tried 2 possibilities and one of them was successful.
The GeoGrillen say thank you for hiding.
One Favi point for all of hidding.

On the way to Taranaki Fallls it was absolutely clear to visit all Caches from the LOTRxx series. All boxes were good to find and at the end we could sign the bonus, although we didn't have any figures, but with the right cacher-instinct is it possible too.
TFTC!

Took an educated guess at where this one would be and came up trumps after missing some numbers from DNFs and archived caches on the Falls trail. Tftc.
Found myself with an afternoon to spare. Nice little trail to fill in the time, and some waterfalls too. Had a little paddle while at the falls. Was missing clues A and B, but thanks to the checksum and fortunately doing the walk in the right direction, the final was found without to much hassle. Thanks for a fun afternoon completing this series.
At the last cache, we realised we were missing two clues: A and B, we also saw some people found it lately, without all clues. So, using what we had, the checksum, and some logic, we did the maths while walking on the path (well maintained, so no risk of falling while messing with the phone), and we found something that looked very promising. It was fairly easy to find the missing A and B, so not giving any additional information. Both container and logbook were in good condition.
Having completed the whole of the Taranaki Falls loop walk over a couple of sessions I had enough numbers and some other tools at my disposal to have a decent stab at where this final, bonus, cache would be hidden.
Having checked my thinking at Waihohonu Hut last night, I did make one last adjustment to the coordinates which gave a more promising location.
And so it proved as I came upon the hint object right on cue and then narrowed down the limited possibilities.
Thanks for this series yorkshirekiwi83 - I'm pleased to have ticked off as many as I did in the time I was here.

Working with only a few of the bonus coordinates and staying at the nearby Skotel I had a rough idea of where this was, I called upon a friend who had found it in the past who confirmed I was heading in the right direction.
Cache hasn’t been found for a few months but log and contents are in great condition

Yes!!!!!! With very few coordinates to go on, we had a lucky guess based on the hint and it was ours!

No problem with this find but more an issue with how to obtain the required numbers, with a few in the loop having been archived and quite a few logbooks replaced a long time ago by Yeetrees with no bonus numbers added it was going to be interesting how we would find it, a quick PAF to the group but no one seemed to have the final coords noted down, almost ready to throw in the towel on a disappointing series we checked out the hint, and concluded it would be somewhere between the archived #48 and the road, walked back and didn't find a suitable hint item, then remembered a small track coming off the main one, not far in and bingo, signed log and put it to bed.

March has been such a busy month, but not so much with getting out and about to indulge in finding some caches for myself. So what better way to remedy this than have a few days away in an area not previously cached out?
Cue a weekend of touring around the Tongariro National Park in good company. Exactly what I needed, and a weekend that would see me find over a hundred caches, including getting my 4000th.
I knew this would be a long day, both starting and finishing in the dark, but I hadn't quite expected to be out caching for 16 hours straight lol. But it was a very productive and interesting day, so it was all worth it in the end.
Having just walked and found a section of the nearby LOTR series of caches, and a few others, it was almost time to head back to the highway to make our way over to the start of the Tongariro Crossing, but not before I took a look for this one seeing as I'm a sucker for Mystery Caches.
I had GZ to myself, so had no problems looking for and finding the cache. Encountering no issues with the container or the contents, the log was quickly signed and the whole thing replaced as found.
Thanks for setting up this cache.

Great walk! It was not quite clear which caches had the codes for this one, and I might have left a part of the trail for another day. Oh well, the long walk will do me good I am sure. Quick find of the final, TFTC!!
We had a great time walking the Taranaki Falls track and collecting the caches along the way. Unfortunately a few were missing and we were a couple of codes short but we managed to come up with some very plausible looking coordinates and were very pleased to find that we were correct, bringing our middle earth adventure to an end.
Thanks for such a wonderful series which took us on multiple adventures.
A favourite point for sure.

I was supposed to be hiking the Tongariro Crossing today but the weather wasn't playing ball, so I decided to do some other hikes instead. The Taranaki Falls loop walk was nice and quiet which made searching for the caches easy. TFTC and the series, gets a FP from me!
We went to Whakapapa for 3 days of skiing but the weather was not good at all. Storm with gale wind and heaps of rain. We went for the Taranaki falls on day 2, enjoying this nice trail with well maintained caches. Most of them found quickly, only 2 seems to be lost.
We found yesterday enough codes to calculate the bonus over a glass of wine at the hotel. Today it was a quick grab and sign with heaps of wet snow flying by. Tb drop and a favo for the trail.
Thanks for the trail.

Guessed the final as we didn’t start the game at the first caches!! Calculated correctly over a bottle of champagne before coming back to find it. Thanks for the series.

Todays plan was different, but I made the best out of it. I was at the Whakapapa Village at lunchtime, booked a shuttle for tomorrow and found a nice spot to sleep. I decided to do the Taranaki Falls Track and grab some caches there! It was cooler than the days before, but the sun came out and warmed me. Thanks for this great opportunity to see the beautiful landscape and find some caches! This is absolutely perfect! Added a favorite point!!

couldn't come this far without picking up the bonus the both loops were great so this gets a fave
Luckily we had time to try and work out the possible co-ords for this cache. Eventually we got something that looked possible and not too far away. Using the hint we quickly ascertained it was GZ and the cache was quickly located. Thanks for this circuit series and a favourite for this loop.
Arrived in Whakapapa (Middel Earth) we decided to do two hiking tours.
The coordinates were exactly measured and with the hints the cans could be found well.
The values for the bonus were written down and so the bonus could be found.
They were very nice hiking trails with great views into the nature.
Thank you for this wonderful round and for hiding the cans.
Many greetings from Cologne from Pöni.

Enjoyed our 3rd phase of lotr. Haven't done much walking recently we very tired but these where so much fun in a beautiful place learning about lotr again. Thanks for the creator Yorkshire kiwi and the adopter yeetrees!
TFTC we really enjoyed this part of the series, however, unfortunately did not have enough time to collect all the caches in the series. Definitely, when we come back, we'll do the rest.
Had enough coordinates front he other caches. Quick find here. Tftc.. fav Pont fpr series.
After completing the loop of LOTR caches, I had 7 out of 8 clues. I was missing A, but was able to confirm it from the check sum. So I headed to the bonus location to make a quick find.
This is my last find in Tongariro National Park for now, tine to get back on the road, heading to Whanganui, and a nice big lunch when I get there
Thanks for all of the LOTR caches. They have added to a great trip to a spectacular national park.

Saw this series of caches when they were published and really haven't had the opportunity to ever look at coming up here to attempt them. When the opportunity arose that this series was up for adoption, I decided to contact the CO and sent yorkshirekiwi83 an email saying that we were happy to adopt them as we didnt want to see them being archived. Yorkshirekiwi83 was happy and willing to let me adopt them, decided that we should go and find the caches before adopting this series of caches .
A plan was to come out here and spend the weekend near the start of the track, so a plan was hatched on Christmas Day 2018, we checked out the accommodation and Mrs Yeetrees said that she had always wanted to stay at the Chateau Tongariro, as her family was a legacy visitor, but that is another story.
After the accommodation was all booked it was just a matter of planning the trip, and saving the funds [xx(], well a plan was set in motion..... and the start of the journey from there and back again.
We meet up with bkj97 and The Little Blue Hen while we out and about and had mentioned that we were going to go up the mountain attempt this series, they said that they were happy to come along as well if we didn’t mind the company, well twos company more are cachers, why not as two eyes are better than mine as I am know to be blind, so the plan was amended for a team effort [^].
Today was the day one of our two day visit on this lovely mountain and we decided that we would attempt the LOTR series, having made our way up here last night with bkj97 being our most gracious chauffeur who go us to our accommodation safely last night [^].
After finding GC6K74H - LOTR48 - Witch King of Angmar, this was the final cache we had to find on the Lower Taranaki Falls Track as we were making back towards the Skotel as we continue on our journey on the LOTR series. As we were making our way towards the final GZ, we decided to check the hint, and as we neared GZ, it only took bkj97 a few seconds to spot the hiding spot of the cache, and we soon found the cache.
Managed to retrieve the cache, signed and then we replaced the cache with a new logbook and cache container before replacing the cache back where I found it. Thanks yorkshirekiwi83 for placing this cache series here and for bringing me to this spot, TFTC TNLNSL (14339).
Now it is time to make our way back to the car and then to the next point of our adventure and journey ....

I'm always keen to get my step count average up and this weekend with yeetrees and bkj97 was an opportunity to do so. It's been a few years (about 30) since I was in the area doing a mountain marathon so I was keen to see how the area had changed. Certainly the tracks are far more tourist friendly. Great day out and 50 caches scored. Really enjoyed the challenge so thanks for making it possible by placing the series. T4tcsl. Much busier loop so waiting for passing muggles meant a few rests. My apologies for the generic logs. favourite added for this loop.
Great series completed in one day minus one puzzle with yeetrees and little blue hen. Will let little blue hen add the favourite. Tftcsl
After breakfast, D4nielB and me went out to look for the LOTR bonus caches for all the caches we found yesterday.
Since some of the numbers were missing (forgot to note them, probably) we had to do a little bit of guessing but finally there was only one fitting spot. We went there and found the cache.

Today, before heading to Napier, Jul1ane and me took the chance to find the bonus caches for the cache rounds we did yesterday.
For this we had to do some guesswork, since we were missing some bonus numbers, probably in the disabled caches or forgotten to note. We were able to pin down the location to eight possible coordinates, but only one of these seemed plausible. And we were right, there we found the bonus.

We had planned to do the Tongariro Crossing but it was cancelled due to weather so we did the Taranaki Falls and Silica Rapids tracks instead. Nice to have the bonus ticked off too, initially looked on the wrong side but quickly found, thanks for the series
After getting all but 2 of the bad guy catches, we had enough information for the bonus coordinates. This was such a fun series, and it broke up the walking just enough without frustrating difficult hides. Thanks so much for putting it all together!
Thanks for a great fun series of caches. We collected all the villains yesterday, except Shelob who appears to have scuttled away, and came back today for the bonus. Nice hide and we realised we had already unknowingly walked past it numerous times.
We found this cache on our way up to the Tama Lakes on this Beautiful day. We could find all the caches (apart from the one that was missing, no 43). Thank you very much for the hard work you put in. Greetings from Switzerland.
Here we found the cache after having consulted the spoiler pic, which helped a lot.

[#4349] It was a rainy start of the day at Whakapapa Village and it seemed we could not go for a walk. But when we were ready to leave it was dry and even the sun came out, so we decided to do the walk to the Taranaki falls. Before we started we picked up two traditionals near the DOC office and the chateau. During the walk we logged all LOTR traditionals we passed, except the three my pocket query missed as they were inactive some weeks ago. Nevertheless we managed to calculate the coords for the bonus despite two missing codes. Before leaving we also found the two-stage multi at the chateau and the letterbox at the NP sign. In total 18 found caches. Thanks to all cache owners for making our visit even more fun and interesting.

Enjoying the weekend in Whakapapa Village to get some hiking training in for my upcoming big hike of the Green Gully Track in OZ. Today I enjoyed a stunning day exploring the Lower and Upper Tama Lakes collecting some more of the LOTR on the way. TFTC
Having failed to find a number of caches in this series on our walk, we were short of a few crucial bonus numbers. However, we used a logical thought process about where the cache might be situated, and were also helped by the checksum. We came up with what seemed to be very reasonable coordinates, and having walked there we were delighted to find the cache. All is well with the container and we added our name to the logbook.
A couple of the numbers were missing or we missed getting ....
but sitting down and did some calculations and guess work and finally came up with the goods awesome set thanks heaps YK83

By now we just wanted to dry out and have a hot drink. When we looked at the codes we had, there were at least 3 missing. I had a hunch that we had missed one close to the start so I volunteered to run back and look. Sure enough there was one of the needed numbers. This definitely helped. After in-putting some numbers into waypoints, one spot looked viable. Off we went hoping that we had deduced correctly. What a relief to find the nice clean and tidy cache. Thanks for the series yorkshirekiwi83.
#223 juhuu a lot of caches were missing but we managed to finish it. The ring is ours! Tftc
Today we had our second day in National Park Whakapapa and made a trip around the wonderful walks here. Special emphasis had we on the vulcanic mountains around us. On this trip we searched, found and logged many caches, too. The weather was good in the morning, sunny, but it got worse all day long, until raining at noon and later. Only sometimes then there was some sun to be seen.
Almost no muggels observed us as they had better things to do than observing two geocachers.
Thanks to yorkshirekiwi83 for showing us this location and for the fun we had at LOTR49 - Bonus - The One Ring. The search we had here today didn't take too much time.
Though we had one missing number it was possible to reconstruct this one and find the Cache at the correct Location.
Greetings from Germany and hope to see you soon in the forest.

Found with our 2 and 5 y.o. T4TC. Great trail. Thanks! We also found an extra bonus cache nearby - it was labelled 'DoC people counter'and it was well hidden. It had a cable attached to it too... Very unusual! But the worst part is that there was no logbook. Stink!
Visiting from England. A really nice walk to see the NZ countryside and an impressive waterfall at the furthest point. Caches in the loop were all super easy to find and the mystery falls almost exactly where you expect! Thanks very much
Visiting nz from England, a great walk with impressive scenery! Nice caches all the way round and the mystery cache at the end is pretty much where you expect it to be!
Thanks for the trail

Collected all of the numbers on the way around the circuit and quick calculation and then a find before heading off to get some lunch. TFTC
These caches are so well done. The hints are awesome yet the hides are fun to find. Thanks.
Today we tramped for 10 hours to get back to the Village. It was very windy without rain. The views were spectacular even with the clouds covering Mount Doom. Thanks for the cache.

This time I made sure I checked carefully for hidden numbers so that I avoided the problem I had with the previous series. The checksum even worked out for me this time. A well thought out location for the bonus, but I still had a few heart palpitations as I neared GZ, but all of a sudden a quick turn and it all made sense! A well deserved favourite for the series. Coordonates are excellents, founded easely.
Once again , nothing to say, walk, coordonates and falls are great.

Today in very nice weather we have made the round LOTR. The round takes us to beautiful viewpoints and great waterfalls over. All cans were good to find. Thank you for laying.

Sat on a heathery tussock to work this out. We were 2 numbers missing C & D. Not sure if we forgot to look or if one is on #39 which we could not find. The check sum helped. We made an educated guess and were delighted to find the cache. This was a great circuit on a delightful walk. Fav from us. TFTC
on our journey through neeseeland we visited many beautiful places,
Here, too, we were able to log into the logbook. Thank you for the lay and the many greetings from Germany from the team stierwade

Find number 3781. I had a plan today to collect a First to Find in Owhango, Complete the LOTR series and end up in Taurmarunui to have dinner with my brother. So it was out of bed at 5 am and straight on the road. I arrived at Owhango at 7.40 and achieved the First to Find. Stage 1 completed. Then arrived at Whakapapa about 8 and decided to shout myself a big breakfast before starting. I did the 3 loops in numerical order 1-19 then 20-33 and finally 34-49. I managed to find all the caches (Stage 2 completed) and a few others as well. In the end I achieved a total of 56 finds with only 1 not found and that was "Naki Splash" (too many muggles round). Total walking time was 8 hours. And still made it to dinner by 6 pm. (Stage 3 completed). Thank you for all the placements.
After completing the other loops with hardly seeing another person this track was different. I arrived to a quiet GZ. The numbers added up perfectly so I was able to complete in peace. This is the last in the series and I was pleased t find them all. Stage 2 of my plan now met. Only stage 3 left and I am looking forward to that. It was his birthday yesterday

This morning we had some time to do the Taranaki Falls Track. We enjoyed the loop very much; especially of course all the caches hidden along the path. With the clear hints it was no problem to find them all. And in the end we could also log the bonus cache. Thank you very much for this serie and greetings from Switzerland.
Caching with lostcheq and Mocrin in the Tongariro National Park. What a beautiful area! I didn't think I would see the snow I escaped from but here it is. Many steps and up and down terrain as we took in as much of the scenery as we could in a day. Thank you for this series out here.
On a geo-trip from the USA, stopped here for the day, grabbing as many as we can, including some of the LOTR. Had a wonderful time, saw some fabulous scenery, and heard a lot of awesome thunder. Thank you for all the caches!!
TFTC Visiting with cache buddies, Aix sponsa and Mocrin for a FULL Day at Tongariro National Park. Beautiful weather, even though some later afternoon thunderstorms put down the rain on us. We all had raincoats and made the best of it. Hi from Northern Wisconsin, USA.
The day before Tongariro Crossing we did the Taranaki Falls Circuit. On the way we grabbed the Lord of the Ring Cashes. Thank you for showing. It was much fun! For this nice circle I give my favourite
I couldn't do the Tongariro Alpine Crossing due to the storm and even after it the weather wasn't that good. So, I decided to do this Cache-Loop to the falls.
I think it was a good idea Thank to the Owner for this good idea and the well maintenant cache.
At the Bonus I'm adding a FP.
Best regards from Switzerland
