This year was an alternate year for my biannual Crooked Christmas Catch up with my in laws in Townsville. However, a 50th birthday celebration provided a short flying NQ visit this weekend. The plan today was for 9 holes of golf on the par 3 at Rowes Bay, followed by a birthday lunch. Lunch was followed by a short nap. I set out in the late afternoon to do something about my mediocre step count with a walk along the river here. This cache was my target and turn around point for the walk. Not a lot of places to hide a cache here where it won't end up taking a swim. The phone wanted me to look a further 8 to 10 m along, but my geo-instincts were screaming at me to focus in a certain spot. In the end it was a comparison from one side to the other that helped me make the find here. This is a classic plain sight urban hide, well worthy of a crooked favourite point. Many thanks, burgo78Pete#7,588
Wow!!!! Just by chance I looked and saw that something just wasn’t right TFTC ONCE AGAIN!

A short notice trip to town but that wasn’t going to stop a bit of caching. Seeing this was recently replaced we headed over. No surprises the GPSr was almost useless so a bit if a line up of the sat map and then let the geo senses go to work. A few areas and thoughts ruled out and then the what about …. Moment and there was the hide. Some fun extracting the new blank replacement log for us to sign.
An easy fav pt which should also help with the next wheel souvenir.

Third time around lucky. And this time it was so easy. Not sure how we overlooked it the times before. LOL Great cache! Thanks heaps!!
I checked on this one and replaced it this afternoon as it was missing.
Happy hunting.

After struggling with this one a few days ago, I went back, minus hubby but with a sneaky tip from the CO. Quick find now that I knew I wasn’t as likely to get attacked by the local wildlife while extracting the log.

We spent a little while looking for the cache and were just about to head back to the car when we said "could it be?" Thank you for another great hide burgo78.
TheTownsville Mega Event finished but having another week in town to do more caching & sight seeing.
A morning out with the Snakepitters & geono on their bikes, heading back along the RRPT picking up the many caches on this trail & a few others along the way'
Luckily for Bill he had 2 very good tree climbers amongst the group. This is one of his favourite ways of caching. Even to find a couple that we had DNFs last time we were in Townsvile
Thankyou burgo78 for placing this cache.

As we are remaining in Townsville following the Mega, due to repair works required on the car, we are out on the bikes taking the opportunity to look around the town and pickup those caches that we pass. Still bloody hot.
Had a DNF last time here and needed a PAF on this occasion, but PAF not so helpful. Continued the search nd looked through old logs, got an idea and bingo, A now a

Total Cache Finds 12729,
Over the weekend of the mega, we had grand plans to cache by the thousands!
So many hides, so little time. We managed a fair few, and even were able to take a short walk around the river and collect a few along the river and this one on the bridge.
It was indeed a sneaky hide, with a terrific view from both sides.
Log signed.
Thanks Burgo78

With a goal of collecting 150 caches in a day, our plan was to tackle both geoarts, hit the RRPT and collect some other caches in between. An early start was in order to achieve this goal before getting ready for the Trivia night at the MEGA.
A huge thank you to all the COs for preparing and placing the caches we collected today, the variety of hide locations, types and containers was fantastic.

The day had come; the plan to get 150 caches (excluding labs) in a day for another challenge was here. The planning and prep started two months ago when I was at the Wangaratta mega. With the recent zoom events for puzzle solving a big help and the Geoarts of the saint and the book catering for two thirds of the task, it was just a matter of finding 50 more caches so as I was able to complete. Today I had Willis007 with me; we picked on a few quick easy finds as we were passing and motoring between arts. We then grabbed the bikes and went for a ride around along the Ross river parkway or is that power trail.
The Geoarts were found easy and thank you. The book art did slow us down a little with some hides a little tuff to find. the power trail was fun some good caches and some that also slowed us down. However, by the end of the day we were done and the challenge completed.
Thanks to my caching buddies, the CO’s for the caches and the great areas I got to see today.
is this a sign of things to come?

I thoroughly enjoyed the walk along the riverside from the previous cache to this one, past so many magnificent trees, and lovely enormous, if windblown, lilies. Once at GZ, Dragonsky found it surprisingly quickly, noticing something that looked slightly different from what he would expect in this environment. DisSister and I spent most of the time enjoying the river views and leaving the hard work to him. Found while exploring lovely Townsville and surrounds during the CacheQld Townsville Mega, with DisSister and Dragonsky. TFTC, burgo78. =^.^=
Great Northern escape 2022 Day 6. Townsville Mega section Day 6. For today I started caching with TikvaNZ for a section of the RRPT. I was on my e-scooter and we had a great time out in the sun visiting interesting locations along the river, some were a bit to much for us today. After lunch I caught up with Kittly Katch, Joolay, Isopeda and Barb2e for some pole caching. Sometimes this was quite a challenge. The day ended with a trip back to Ross River for a pre Mega dinner with heaps of people I have not seen for ages. A great way to get the Easter weekend started.
We spent ages looking for this, but as we ran out of things to try there was some movement and the cache was revealed to our great excitement.
Thanks for the cache burgo78

Day 6 of a 3 week holiday driving from Canberra to Townsville and back to attend the Mega. Today was mostly Ross River Power Trail caches by bike. This morning Albida33 and I joined forces to tackle the section from the Riverway lagoons heading upstream. Cache eventually found in good condition, after exhausting all the usual locations. TFTC.

Came down with a GeoPal and had a look for this and replaced the torn logsheet
This is a tough one. We have found caches in locations like this and had a few different ideas what it could be but after 15 minutes of unsuccessful searching we gave up. We'll have to come back for this one, no way are we going to have this DNF in our stats for too long.

Logging old caches originally found with alphag_25. Now have my own account and logging them separately so that I can claim the finds.
24/12/2021 Up in Townsville staying near the Lakes. Attacking the RRPt today to increase my numbers. Thanks to all the cachers in the area who have placed caches fir my enjoyment. TFTC SL Good camo
Finally after a few attemptsTFTC, Didn't have a pen for the log so took a pic
After walking around peering and searching ultimately it was a relatively quick find overlooking the river. Thanks for the sneaky hide and views that I wouldn’t have seen.
Found while walking along the River with the fam and dog. Initially looking the wrong side.
Well what can we say. Took forever to find it, but we hate to be beaten.
GPS reception under the bridge made it difficult to focus in on an area so we checked lots of places. We found a very similar possible hide, but no luck. It was only when re-examining this initial possibility that Mrs SKI found the actual cache nearby in another location.
A clever hide and a favourite from us. Possibly because we managed to find it!
We had a very mixed day out caching today. We decided to head back to the trails on the Ross River and work our way further south as well as take some side diversions to collect additional caches and pre-solved puzzles. We found a variety of hides and encountered some differing types of caches as well and had a few DNFs.
The tails are on well defined and surfaced track so are great for bike riding. And no real hills! A real bonus.
The day started coolish and humid, good for riding, but once we reached the dam wall trail it began to appear a bit bleak. We pressed on regardless, but only got half way through before the heavens opened and it began to rain quite heavily. Very unusual for this time of year the locals tell us!
We decided to abandon the trail at this time and returned to the car getting thoroughly soaked by the time we got there. At least we weren't cold though.
Hopefully weather permitting we will be able to return and complete the series before we move on.
Our thanks to the local COs for their work on developing the caches. It is most appreciated.

It took a while as I was sure I could get it. After finding, I realised that I had touched it at least 3 times without knowing.
After about 15mins could not find very hard
Kids got fidgety. We will be back to try again

Nice view and lots of locals &
Figured it should be around there, but it took a while to circle in the cache. Very sneaky hide

When we saw this one was Burgos cache we wanted to do it. We thought we were up for the task but my goodness this was so evil and clever. I think we disturbed every spider around gz. Our thanks to burgo78 and a fav point
This one was still in place in plain sight.
I’ve dropped in a new log.
Happy hunting.

Woo, found straight away! I was in the area for dinner and was looking for caches. There were a few around that had multiple DNFs lately so I was wary about doing those ones but this had owner maintenance today so thought it was a safe bet.
As I was walking to GZ I thought “I bet it’s that” but it turned out it wasn’t that but another one of ‘that’. Pretty stoked at the easy find because it was late and I was alone so wanted to GTFO there.
Really awesome camo, very simple yet amazing. TFTC!

No luck for this one for us today. GZ a bit everywhere, and no luck identifhying the container
Hot and sweaty wander with my doggie Barney. Was a little bit over it today and gave my sister (tinylemongrass) who found this one in December a FaceTime.
Whooooo!!!! Second time looking... don't know how we didn't find it the first time! Such a sneaky clever hide. Well done.
Well as soon as I marked it DNF my geosister @tinylemongrass found it lol very sneaky️
Found it after a while of looking with my geobrother and sister!!
Nasty nasty nasty hide, but it felt great to find it!!
Just note that the coordinates are a bit off, but we had the general idea of where it was. Last place we looked!!
Would definitely suggest bringing tweezers, and the paper was hard to write on so maybe bring a felt tip marker or a sharpie

TFTF and congrats to Tinylemongrass for beating me to it! Great hide! Evil, but great!
Wanted to get the old one that was here but seemed to always be missing whenever I was in town
Didn't want to miss this chance so headed to the QZ on a mission.
Geodaughter and I spent a fair bit of time looking until I decided to be more methodical.
Really? That's it?
Found in possibly the only place I didn't check before.
Couldn't retrieve the log but met the CO a couple of days later and described the cache and he was sure we had found it.
Love this one.

Our first one thats tricky . Unfortunately we couldn't get it out. So here is a photo
Great sneaky hide unable to sign the log book as it was stuck!!! Needed to bring a tool!
TFTC ~ came back to sign the log ~ I like this crafty hide!! Well done to the CO.
The log was hard to sign & is a little damaged on the end where it needed some encouragement with TOTT to get out... definitely a fave when I have a fave ️ to give!!

TFTC. The weather had turned a little and put paid to plans to be out on the river. Instead I took the geo-mobile to walk along the path from the Arts Precinct. Luckily it did not rain but it did drizzle on and off. Got muggles out of a couple but still ended with 7 trad and a puzzle cache. On my own a good walk of around 4K. Thanks to the cache owners for a good couple of hours entertainment. For the most part the caches were relatively quick finds.
I had to come back to this one. A group of muggle children were hanging around GZ. On the return they were gone and i could sears have in peace. I started with an assumption. Wrong. Then turned and saw something , yep there it is. The tool got the log out , a slippery devil. Signed log and returned from whence it came. Good sneaky hide.

Found this cache today but wasn’t able to get log out to sign; need to come back with a TOTT
Walked past and had a look before finding some other RRPT caches and coming back. Fewer people around but still took some searching, head scratching and log reading before deciding on a definite search target and finding the cache. Worked through a number of geobag tools before extracting, signing and replacing the log. Have been here before not finding the predecessor cache. Neat little container thanks again burgo.
Wow! Amazing cache. Didn't take long to find but the log just would not budge so was unable to sign. Favourite cache to date though

I was looking at all the likely possibilities, and then on a haunch I decided to try something else, and just like that, had the cache in hand. TFTC

Found it! After a while of searching, finally found! Though, we spent more time trying extract the log than looking for it... couldn’t get the log out in the end... but contacted owner and have permission to log as found! TFTC
This needed some perseverance. A lot of looking and avoiding muggles, looking in a lot of places and finally success. No extraction tool but eventually got there to sign the log. Never seen one like this before and very creative TFTC and as always burgo76 appreciate the effort
Yay! Gotcha.. found and signed log and returned cache as found..thanks to the CO for fixing this so promptly...TFTC
Found what we thought could be the cache but it was empty so we'll log a dnf since we are not sure
The cache was still there just in need of minor repair. Reset as intended with a fresh log.
Happy hunting.

DNF - we were here wirh JTLTN and Lildonnasadventure and it eluded us. Too hard basket today.. Lol
Out for a lovely group outing with 19pjr79, geo_possum, jezza_thegeokid, oftnexplor, Phoenix freaks, maunder84 and mr & mrs choppersrule. This was doing my head in and almost had us launching into the drink! The obvious should not be underestimated!! TFTC
