Last day in Akaroa today. Decided to go for a walk and grab a couple of caches.
I always struggle with offset ones. But am convinced we were at the right place. There was even a perfect hiding spot but we could not find the cache

03-Dec-21
Indeed- really only one place it could be. Thanks.

21-Jul-21
Out for the day caching along the way. This was a quick find in an interesting place with no muggles about today. TFTH

27-Jun-21
First cache on my way home today. Only one logical place for this to be but there was no cache there. Couldn't spot it on the ground either. So back to the start again to retrace my steps more methodically and as I walk up I did spot the cache on the ground - happy dance! Have placed it back with a couple of rocks on top to hopefully keep it in place. TFTC # 17,309

Thanks GH6710 for the cache. It’s #1506 for us. We found your cache on 2 May 2021. Didn’t initially find cache at corrected coords. Double checked and still nothing. Then while we were walking around scratching our heads I spied it lying on the ground. Have replaced it where the hint suggests it should be.

Easy find

28-Sep-20
We had a couple of night's stay in Akaroa on our way down to ride the Otago Rail Trail. It's been a good twelve years since our last visit but this time was far quieter than we remembered.

The end of our walk and time for a doze for us too. It's hard work all this relaxing.

Still a good few hundred metres back to our accommodation so not too much rest allowed here.

Thanks GH6710

My first multi in New Zealand. What a hike from the pier. On Holland America Noordam and visiting from Hawaii. Now to hike back the same way I came. A lady on a horse stopped to ask if I was okay and mentioned that I had a long walk back to the pier. Thanks GH6710. This will be my third find of your caches. Awarded a Fav point. ️ Mahalo from Hawaii.

19-Dec-19
We took the short drive from Akaroa this morning to locate this cache. A beautiful obvious tree helped us locate the little treasure. TFTC

A nice easy find here on our way home from Akaroa. The cache was full of water but I managed to etch my name onto the log. TFTC.

20-Jun-19
A lovely day for a trip out to Akaroa and exploring. Enjoyed the multi and reading the history and seeing the area. Then did the required distance to the cache. Found the cache full of water, emptied out but thankfully the log is waterproof paper so could sign. Thanks for the interesting info, lovely location views and the cache GH6710.

20-Apr-19
Found after doing the children's bday walk

23-Mar-19
Quick find. But the eclipse was swimming in a pool of water. We dried the log, and added a raft of sticks under the container so hopefully it may stay a little drier. TFTC!

16-Mar-19
We were spending the afternoon in Akaroa as the boys had sailing with their Dad in the evening. The morning was spent visiting Akaroa Heads before heading back into town for a late lunch. Boys went for a walk around town to find something for dinner and I nipped out to find a couple more caches by myself and to get some Ingressing in.
Once I worked out which direction south and the correct tree it was a straight forward find.
Thanks for the hide, nice to grab an easy multi while away from home. I had already found the one in Dunsandel.

11-Feb-19
One of my rare multi caches. When I am on holiday I usually do not feel like doing a lot of counting and calculating. But here measurements were not necessary. The hiding place is quite obvious. But careful, the little tin box is guarded by some nasty insects. TFTC!

20-Jan-19
Dosing strip! Love the organisation and will to eradicate! Found on the round trip walk from Children’s Bay to Takamatua and back to Akaroa. Easy find exactly where it should be.
TFTC Smile

10-Jan-19
removing the needs maintenance log as the cache is still there and can be signed.

28-Dec-18
On my last visit to Akaroa (5/7/2018) this cache was AWOL but was replaced a week later.. I stopped by again as I headed home today. The cache was found to be in place but it was under water this time. Fortunately the waterproof log meant that no harm had been down. I wiped the log dry and signed my name. Nice one GH7610.Razz

31-Oct-18
This geocacher reported that there is a problem with this cache.

22-Oct-18
I was heading for the lighthouse at the mouth of the harbour when I realised I was passing this GZ. Brakes on!
I soon found the replacement cache (exactly where I thought it should be last time).
Nice to start my day with a find, though it wasn't to be this easy all day.
TFTC GH6710 Cool

A quick find due to the cache being on the ground. Replaced back into the tree. Log is wet. TFTC

15-Oct-18
TFTC. A quick trip to the Banks Pen for a few caches.
A great blustery spring day - prefect for a caching adventure.
A fun and fairly speedy multi. Loved the local history lesson.
Thanks GH6710 for placing this cache.

Cunning spot!

JDScout and I decided to have a Campervan weekend on Akaroa. No weekend away would be complete without a spot of geocaching. Thanks for creating this geocache.
Sadly there is no large event in New Zealand in 2019 but there are a few Mega events planned in Australia. I plan on going to the OzGeomuster in July. To find out more visit this site: https://www.ozgeomuster.com.au

What a busy road today! Thanks for the history lesson.

Another GH cache before we head back over the hill(s). Parked near the start point and followed the directions to the expected GZ and, like others, discovered a log placed in the crook. After checking that it wasn't the cache I made up a cache with a trusty Eclipse min tin and added to act as a replacement. Interesting write-up here.
T F T M and C GH6710

Destination has been reached, we arrived in Akaroa after just a couple of stop offs for caches despite the rich pickings available en-route. We needed a bathroom stop, and grab some lunch as the day was getting onto early afternoon and some places were closed or closing. After a healthy feed in a nearby establishment I left my 2 passengers for half an hour and stormed around 'town' for 4 quick finds before a few more further up the coast.

Day 2 of the trip from (usually) sunny Marlborough and an ominous day to head out into the Canterbury sunshine on this Black Friday. Truth be told it was much more of a Blue Friday with beautiful clear skies following a really heavy frost and without a puff of wind. Perfect weather to head out of the town into Banks Peninsula and Akaroa and surrounds. A healthy quota of 20 caches and a bit of diversity too with a couple of Earth caches, a LB hybrid and a few caches from Blenheim buddy GH6710. A wonderful day out was enjoyed with the family and plenty of photographic memories to look back on days when we can't, or can't be bothered, to get out and about.
Many thanks to all the Canterbury cachers for their placements.

13-Jul-18
Followed the steps of recent attemptees, nada too. Botrched together a replacement with mint-tin and a LOG RITR the CO gave me earlier this week. This will keep this one alive for now.

05-Jul-18
To keep up with my personal challenge of achieving a minimum of 10 caches finds per day I needed to find 8 caches today. After perusing a map of my unfounds it seemed that utilising the cachemobile for a trip to Akaroa would be the best bet to get the necessary caches. Chance also to have a Fish and Chip lunch too. [^]

I had hoped to make this find #6, but unfortunately there was no cache nestled.Sad

27-Jun-18
A DNF for me.
I found the obvious spot and found a cut piece of branch in a fork and several knot holes. No cache, though. I even double and triple checked the cut branch in case it was hollowed out or hinged but it was not to be.

15-Mar-18
This brought memories of my dad, a farmer, taking the dogs up the road for their hydatids checks. A quick find and nice to have the memories. Thanks for the cache.

15-Mar-18
What an easy one this is. I remember the dosing days of olde! The amount of dogs that would swallow that pill and walk away, tail wagging and happy owners and doser person. Only for the dog to spit the pill out about 100 yards up the road! They weren't silly!!! TFTC and the history connected to it. Found with JudeE. Cool

03-Feb-18
Found it! Easy find, kinda slippery going up and down hill.

30-Jan-18
We well remember dog dosing and what an effective treatment it proved to be. A quick little find and one we enjoyed . Thank you.

27-Jan-18
A quick easy find with JuJu54. A nicely crafted little cache which gets a favourite from us. We remember when there were dosing strips all over the country. TFTC

27-Jan-18
Another nice find with Weka. No need for dog dosing strips these days TFTC

31-Dec-17
We came to Akaroa because it is a nice small town with free camp. We want to meet some people at New Years Eve. We walked all the way up the hill and eventually we found the small container easy. This is probably our last cache 2017.
Thanks for showing! Tftc

I’ve come across the ditch from to “tramp” (a new word for me) the Routeburn Track and see some of this beautiful South Island of New Zealand .

Today Swellerfungus and I have come for a drive to Arakoa, looking up caches on the fly and I liked the history of where it is. I managed to read it before we got too close and drove past...as did happen a couple of times.

Thanks for the history lesson.

25-Nov-17
A great bit of history attached to this cache. A quick find. We took the time to dry this one out as it was quite wet. All good now! Thanks for the cache

Mum and me had a day to go caching - baby was with hubby, so no hold ups - just lots of caches was the plan for the day!!! And luckily we mainly succeeded in getting quite a few off the map! I think the final count was about 40, which is decent given that big days are getting tougher & tougher with the ones near home being pretty spaced out!

Didn't take too long to sort or find!

TFTC!! Smile

29-Jul-17
Out for a day's caching with daughter, never mind the freezing temperatures at the early start, icy roads, and a bit of precipitation that did not promise a very nice day! It even got sunny at certain points during the day [^] We had great fun and visited some amazing spots in the process!!! Thanks to all CO's for placing great caches for us to find!!!

19-Jul-17
We returned the cache as best we could, but it was sitting in water as a result of recent rain. TFTC

#14310. A nice quick multi (especially as we parked a few metres from the cache hiding place). Interesting history in the cache page (I remember hearing about hydatids when I was a lad; mostly on the radio cancellation notices I think). TFTC.

08-Jul-17
Found with StreetWalker on a weekend trip to Akaroa, our first visit in over 7 years.
We parked very close to where we found the cache, but not before we looked in the wrong place (the instructions re not crossing the road was misinterpreted - I suppose you meant the main road, not the dirt road). Anyway, we soon realised where we needed to be, and SW scrambled up to retrieve the cache, handing it down to me to sign. TFTC.

09-Jan-17
TG and I headed out for the first Mad Monday Mission for 2017 and successfully found the nearby cache and decided to place a few caches as well. We grabbed a cache in Akaroa one up Flea Bay Road and we were heading home and stopped by here to make a quick find. Maybe time for one more cache on the way home.

Thanks for the cache GH6710.

My mission is my first 3 day tramp on Stewart Island. The Seagnoid has Xmas off so we are off on an epic adventure with Zara around the South Island. Zara stays put at Little River, so with trusty steed Toby, the Seagnoid navigating via phone & scribe and I delegated to log blogger and driver, we are off to explore Akaroa.
After bagging 20th Xmas, the Seagnoid says go up that road - but no there is a gate so its back to the main road. The Seagnoid had us around the place with this one before finally bagging it. Cheers

TaybeeDragon and I are off for a three day walk on Stewart Island. But we have a camper, so once you add in getting there and back, it's a three week trip. Day 3: Akaroa to Akaroa.

Initially tried to approach this cache from the road to the north but found some locked gates in the way Sad so drove around to the proper entry point. Then the instruction about not crossing the road confused us as we both had to cross the road to get to the cache, then again to get to the final. Whichever side of the road you go, there is an obvious tree to the south at exactly 38 metres. Turns out the cache is only at one of them! In the end I realised that that was not the road the CO was referring to. Red Face

Love the inventive container!! We nearly dismissed it as rubbish before spotting the lid. TFTC

Found this interesting cache today. Had to wait a working muggle nearby but could finally grab the cache!
Thanks for hiding, good idea!

31-Jul-16
Found the other dog dosing cache some time ago, so today we had to stop here to complete them. Thanks for the interesting information - it is great to learn something while on the road. Cache was an easy find, although we crossed the road as we parked on the other side. TFTC
