This has been a trip that has been planned fro a few weeks with the prime objective to Jet Boat down the Wanganui River fromTaumarnui to Pipiriki the following day, but firstly we had to get there. On this trip we were heading to Mt Damper, through to "The Forgotten Highway" before heading back up to Taumarnui to clean that area out.
So setting off after work in the company of HKCB, iammrwalker and Kyb3r we headed down this way to eventually make it cross country before thinking about a bit of sleep. Signed the log as HOAC to save valuable space in the logbook

Spirits were high, concersation rediculious and plans made for future trips. By now on this trip we were deffinatly on our own and the place was all ours (it would be hours before we saw another car, and infact we only saw 3 vehicles between turning off SH3 and when we finally made it sleep time at 4.30am).
Had in the past only ever driven past here but now its 1am it seemed an apropriate time to stop off and go for a walk. This was deffinatly the easier part of the walk however we made it to the top and back to the car in under 50mins so not too bad after driving 300kms and been awake for 21 hours at this point. Good to finally see a well designed DOC cache

A big thanks to all the CO's who have placed and maintained the caches in the more remote parts of New Zealand.
Thanks for the placement, Thanks for the cache

We had planned a trip a few weeks ago to Jet Boat down the Whanganui River, something that had been on my to do list for a few years now, and the time had now come to head down to Taumarunui and jump on the water. However while discussing this with C&D we decided to throw in a side mission and try and locate a few caches along the Northern end of the "Forgotten Highway" including Mt. Damper Falls and finishing with a clean out of Taumarunui the night before because as C&D constantly reminds us "sleep is for the weak!".

So we set off at 5.30pm Friday night, with Iammrwalker and Kyb3r in tow heading to the first cache of the trip. This side mission turned out to be very successful with us completing everything we wanted with a few hours of darkness left to grab an hour or two of sleep before making our way to the Jet Boat. We signed the logbooks with HOAC a group caching name we use from time to time. A big thanks to all the CO's whose caches we found on this side mission.

Wasn't quite up for a walk up a hill at 1am in the morning, but since there is a plastic box up there I might as well give it a crack. Found this cache on the way up and was pleased to find a fairly decent DOC cache for a change, however a more waterproof/permanent container could of been used. Thanks for the placement.

Had a nice walk doing the loop track with my keen geocaching kids. I would have never known this walking track existed had a geocache not been placed here. TFTC

This year me and RobLigtenberg were lucky enough to spend almost 2 months in New-Zealand on a great holiday. We explored both islands and just like everyone else we loved it. Apart from all the major attractions (roturua, tongariro, abel tasman, the glaciers, the fjords and so much more) we also tried to do some caches in order to discover even more of the country. Today we took the Forgotten World Highway from Taumarunui to Stratford and it turned out to be a great drive (even with our campervan). This was our first stop of the day and an easy find. We didn’t have time to walk the whole loop, but the swingbridge was nice.

During our nearly two month holiday in New Zealand we spend time on both the northern and southern island. Both islands happened to be very beautiful, each in its own way. Together with Ninagustein we searched for many caches, as we think it is a great way of discovering the country. Numerous caches get you to places you otherwise wouldn't have visited and it is also fun to find caches at touristic places. On this day we drove the Forgotten World Highway. It is a lovely road with great scenery. Just after starting it we did this cache at the Te Maire loop. The cache was easily found. It's a nice walk through the forest.

We quickly discovered the parking coordinates given for this cache were 200 metres out, as the correct parking is at the signed carpark at S38 57.101 E175 11.230. We hoped the cache coordinates would be a little more accurate, and fortunately they were, leading to a quick find in a logical hiding place. The container was interestingly different, and hopefully will last. This was a pleasant area for a short bush walk, and we would not otherwise have come, as we didn't have time to walk the complete loop, or indeed go to the other cache on the loop, which sounded as if it might be a bit physical for a couple of geriatrics. Took longer to find than expected got back to the car as the rain came. Had lunch at the Lavender Farm

We'd decided we'd earned a day off the farm (well most of the day anyway), so thought we'd head to the National Park to do some more of the LOTR's trail, snow permitting. We'd tossed over the idea of going for this one but discounted it as too far to go, but as we neared the NP for thought 'what the heck, why not'.
It was a little over cast but not too bad at all. Mr Rattll decided he'd run to the lookout cache here, & Mrs Rattll went for a gentle amble to look for this cache.
This was a lovely area to walk in & explore, & it was surprisingly dry under foot, despite all the recent rain. We probably would never have stopped here if it wasn't for these 2 caches, so thanks DOC for introducing us to the area.
Finding the cache was straight forward, & once again we were rewarded with a blank log book & more hut tickets to add to the collection. We left a pet rock - an owl.
Mrs Rattll took her time heading back to the car, taking the opportunity to take lots of photo's, & Mr Rattll arrived back soon after. A great start to the day.
Thanks for the adventure, the {FTF} & the hut tickets.
