After checking on our bovine friend with Reschedule, we decided to grab a few caches in the area south of Rotorua. We thought we would approach this one backwards as we imagine that is the way it is intended. TFTC

Spending the day out around Lake Rerewhakaaitu and state highway 38, approached GZ and quickly found the home of the cache. A quick find, TFTC!
Thanks for your amazing cache DOC BOP. I really appreciate the time you took to set up and maintain your caches. Found with Fisha1288. Cheers, Cympull.
We were staying nearby while attending a dog agility competition being held at the domain this weekend (Mrs nzks niece was competing), so it was a no-brainer to look for the caches in the area. We needed some stealth for this one; there were only a few campers in the area but one of them was quite close to GZ. Mrs nzk parked the car strategically and went in for the find. She checked a few potential hiding spots before locating the cache. TFTC DOCBOP, apologies for the late logging.
Setting up camp at this wonderful spot and thought I'd have a sneaky check for any caches. Was in luck and quickly located this cache. Thanks

Happy new year. First cache of 2024. Out with the family for new years camping. Replaced the broken eclipse tin with a small plastic container and a bit more log paper. Original cache is done for.
Original cache container is broken and need replacing. Log book is full and needs replacing. I have installed a new temporary container and added a piece of water proof paper. The container is not really suitable, but is at least more water proof. This will give it a little more life till it can be properly refurbished either by the owner or another proactive cacher who reads this note before visiting the site.

We were in the area today, so thought we would finally check out these caches. Missed the cache on my first sweep of the host, but when I realised the size of the cache I was searching for, it was located on the second sweep. Although lid missing the log was still good. We were glad that this part of the park had no muggles nearby to wonder what we were up to. TFTC

A beautiful still day after camping here last night. Off to find the cache in the morning which was not even 50m from our campsite. As previously reported the cache is missing a lid but log was dry inside. TFTC
Found - Mrs McMike2012 & I now live full-time in our caravan & travel the country visiting places we want to visit … we are now parked at the Ash Pit Rd DoC Campsite alongside Lake Rerewhaaitu for the next few days … planning to get in a few days R&R, assuming the rain stays away … but if it doesn’t, then we’ll just chill in our caravan … this was an easy find, log completed (log book damp, no lid to container & nothing to replace it with) & replaced as best I could, given the state of the container … pleased to add another 'smiley face' to the tally … TFTC ... TN:LN:SL ... #3,383 for us.
Yes...but not before unsettling some furry critter deeper underthat got the heart going...then KL spied something laying unloved and the lid was missing great the log was there and signable ..thanks DoC awesome camping spot
We are staying at this DOC camp with a group of friends- as it seems to be this weekend. We wandered off to find this cache. As we are approaching gz, my phone rings. I'm busy chatting while Macwatt in amongst it. He had unearthed some critters but no cache. I bent down and picked up something suspicious- yay the cache. Thanks for cache placement DOCBOP
Been camping here a few days and now gorgeous weather; with a bit of rummaging we finally found it! Thanks for hiding. Top was missing, we've put some wood in place, hopefully it will stay drier.
Great trip from Mt to Murapara to Rotorua & back home with buzzybb. This one took a little while to find but persistence paid off. Tftc
Found this one while camping in the area over the holiday weekend. Took a little while to locate this one TFTC.
Camping at Lake Rerewhakaaitu at the Brett Road campsite with our friends and family for the holiday period and New Years. Went for a walk to this campsite through the track with Kat259 and had to do abit of bush bashing to get to the log, have moved it a little further back by 5 cm to be protected and not as out in the open as we found it.
Happy to get this log as we leave tomorrow. Tried the one at the domain but that one has gone missing.

Catching up on logs. Took the nephews and Grandpa caching for the first time around Rerewhakaaitu. Took longer than we should have to find this, considering we had 4 small helpers! Thanks for the cache
Got it, was a bit of a mission, got the clue, new to this but found it.
Note inside is getting a bit deteriorated so left a another piece of paper around it

almost gave up and then found it was fun climbing through the fallen branches trying to look for it, exactly where the point is!
The cache was very had to get to with fallen branches etc. was a good chance to introduce some friends to geocaching
Bit of a sticky situation retrieving this one - a good one if you have little helpers!
Sent the kids in to find it. No luck. Had a look myself and just where you would think it would be (and where I thought they had looked) it was. TFTC
Almost ready to DNF when I looked a couple of logs, took another look and there it was. TFTC.
Found it! Miss 5 has enjoyed her afternoon geocaching in Rerewhakaaitu. Quiet here today and we had it to ourselves and the birds. Tftc
Tricky hide. But nice spot here to camp although good Friday this morning beautiful day though. Thanks DOC
Great to have some caches near by while on our weekend away camping. This one didn’t take us too long to find, the coordinates are spot on. Log has enough room for a couple more people to sign before it’s full. Tftc #cachelife
Road trip with NZPatoto to spend a couple of nights in her motorhome at Lake Rerewhakaaitu (fantastic little spot, peaceful but not quiet due to the frogs and just what the doctor ordered), completing caches on the way there and back home. Got most, had to leave a couple due to parking, traffic and size of motorhome. 26 in Total, 2 DNF, 1 Note and 1 disabled (not included in count) on the homeward trip. Was open when NZPatoto print the details. 19 of 26 Found by NZPatoto. Day 2 At the Lake. So I had mention to NZPatoto that we would be walking for some of the caches and she went to look on site and found the ones around the Lake. Walked approx. 8kms (there and back) which was just within my limit of fitness. Lake was higher than normal so had to walk the road as walking track was flooded. I pushed my way thru the branches to get the GOL however NZPatoto saw something and found the cache, log signed and returned. Now for the long walk back to camp for rest and relaxation. TFTC
Headed off with Nahkins on a road trip in my motorhome. Headed to Lake Rerewhakaaitu doing caches on the way, while we stayed and on way home. Had mixed results.A couple I couldn't stop as there wasn't enough room for parking. 2 DNF. 1 disabled the day after I had printed out the list. Lots of blackberry in places. Nahkins was going in for this one but I seen a likely spot and she was on wrong side so I grabbed it. All in good order. TFTC Now for the walk back to Guy Roe Reserve where we were staying.
#10,560. We had a good drive to Ash Pit Road in Rerewhakaaitu after Christmas lunch. We were delighted to see that most of the letterboxes in the area were well adorned with Christmas decorations. Although there were campers within ear’s shot away, GZ itself was all quiet at the time of our visit. Found after a bit of searching. Well hidden. The cache was in excellent condition, all nice and dry inside. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log.
Thanks for the placement and for bringing us to this site, and …

Took a good hunt, but it’s still there! It helped having several pairs of eyes searching. Great hide. Tftc
Another find with the team. Good to find these ones that have been lonely for a while
Tftc! Found the likely spot , but took a while to find this tricky little hide. Well done. Love it!
Hahaha more logs near by. This one had me looking for a few minutes. Then I spots it. Cool camo. Love the views. Been said there are old tanks in bottom of this lake. Don't know if it be tru but there's a fact for you. Over all a great location for camping indeed and have been here before. Gotta try my hand at fishing here sum stage .
Nice quick find, only realised the significance of the name afterwards as my mind was a bit sluggish on this cold and drizzly day. Once at GZ there is only realy one place it could be.
Took some searching but of course it was where it should have been after going back for a second look.
Its Been a while and now its time to catch up on all the logging that I've put off to a rainy day (while it may not be raining, where we were heading the roads are still closed hence sitting here doing this).
A bit of a mini mission with HKCB & RWIMF to clear out many of the caches south of Rotorua. There were a few specific caches targeted for the day but there were also enough other caches to make it a very interesting day. A great big thank you for all the work and effort put in by the cache owners in keeping it all going. (and you'd be surprised where you can actually take a 2WD work vehicle when the boss doesn't know)
So thank you for the placement, thank you for the cache

On a bit of a clean out mission in the South of Rotorua with Cats&Dragons and RWIMF, but we did have our eye on a few specific caches for the day. Is was a really good day out with a lot of new places visited, however the day didn't quite go to plan as there were a couple of things happened which made the day very eventful and in the end cut short the caching day, but more on those at the caches they happened. Sorry for the mostly copy and past logs, but a big thanks to the CO's for the placements and the reason to visit these places. We signed the logs with HamC, HCR or a mash up of both.
Spotted the obvious spot pretty quickly but that was the only quick part of this find. Took a bit of searching to find, eventually we found it in a spot we all had missed. Nice hide!

I swear we all checked this spot before C&D made a final sweep and spotted the cache.
Another good find on a bit of a trip away.

Last find in the area. I had a bit of difficulty yesterday but today it was en easy find for some reason. This is a milestone cache for me, number 700. FTC
As I had a few days spare travelling from Gisborne to Auckland I thought it would be nice to stop off here as I have never been here before. A very nice peaceful location.
After finding the cache near the entrance I then headed for this one.
Cheers for the cache.

I have been here before but not to this end of the camping ground. It is a very popular spot in the summer and even today there are a couple of campers. Clever hide blended in very well TFTC
A cunning wee hide found by Mrs S. Mr S was off looking for something else.
Thanks DOCBOP.

Scouting for further hiding locations along the Te Ara Ahi Bike Trail...
This was a very clever, well placed hide. We found it in fading light and with a torch... TFTC.

An easy wee find in our night time DOC cache tour. Looking forward to coming exploring around here in the daylight next TFTC
Ah yes, great name. And this was a great hiding place. Thanks for bringing us here to see what is available. The camping area's lovely facilities were a pleasure to use.
Took a bit to find and nearly as hard to get out. I didn't have a bag with me though . tftc
Nice afternoon drive out to the lake for the new DOC cache.
Took me a few goes to find this cache well camouflaged so trust the GPS as it had me exactly where I needed to be evenually I found it as I was looming at the right angle.
thanks DOC for the hide.
