The tree is still standing, but with a number of branches gone, including some that were useful in climbing, and the branch the cache was attached to. I could replace the cache, but I think the tree is now harder to climb, most locals have found the cache, and I suspect the tree will be taken down in the next few months. So, time to archive.
A huge branch has come down, and the cache along with it. Managed to retrieve the inner container and the broken outer container. Am disabling for now, but I suspect I will end up archiving this one as the tree will likely be felled.
The original cache was better designed than the replacement, so I returned today and swapped the replacement for the original.
New cache in place. Once I got into position to attach the new cache I looked down and spotted the old cache in the ivy. I was too lazy to go down and get it, so just attached the new cache. When I went down and picked up the old cache, I realised its setup was better than the replacement (there was a carabiner attaching it to the cable tie). Oh well. We'll see how the new one goes (I can always replace it with the old one sometime in the future).
Pretty sure this one is gone (a victim of recent spring gales perhaps). Disabling until I replace it or decide to archive.
Work has sent me to the main land to add to my cache count. How kind of them!
In between finds, they want me to co-manage the fitout for the new branch office that's opening next month. I suppose that's a fair arrangement
Having finished up with the on-site meetings with the architect, builders, signage people, vending machine guy, carpet layers, etc, etc, we headed off for some lunch.
But first, a cache!
This happened to be on our way down the road, so I jumped out of the car and shimmied up the trunk after spotting it from the ground.
Thanks for the hide. I love collecting Tree Climbing attributes [:X]

This was so fun! I love a good tree climb and this didn't disappoint! A few tricky bits to navigate but not too bad. But then the pen troubles that LittleTan describes in her log! Once I got halfway back down to the pen I figured, I'm still halfway up, and if I did it once I can do it again, so got myself back up and the log is signed. Grateful for supporters on the ground to help with the pen and encouragement. Teamwork!
AngelicKiwi climbed the tree without a pen. LittleTan threw a pen and I retrieved the pen from the ivy many times. Eventually the cache was signed. Yay! Thanks you two and thanks for the cache. I'm very impressed by AngelicKiwi's climbing.
Well this turned out to be a fun cache retrieval- one for the "funny Geocaching stories" file
Thanks to the amazing climbing talent of Angelic Kiwi we got the cache.
It was much higher than anticipated but by the time we realized AK was already halfway up and fully committed.
Once she reached the cache I realized that the pen was in my pocket, firmly on the ground
We decided to just try logging with photo proof of her up the tree (her phone was also in my pocket) but then I had a BRILLIANT idea to throw the pen up to her, about 20 feet in the air
This became a teamwork challenge with me trying to throw the pen to AK up the tree, and Snugpup watching closely where it landed, retrieving and bringing it back to me...
Several unsuccessful attempts later and the pen got stuck in the tree further down and we had to give up.
Halfway down AK found the pen and decided to go back up to make the find official.
All the while we had a cheering audience of children from the ece centre across the road
Long story short, she did end up signing the cache for the three of us after our crazy game of "catch"
TFTC- very fun but not for the faint hearted!

Checked on the cache today. Still in place and can easily be seen from the footpath (if you stand in the right place).
Think this one has been muggled. No cache to be found in or around the tree or nearby trees. I went for a climb anyway but had no luck
Cool! I came for a look at this one yesterday and decided it might need to be a two person job, so came back today with the family monkey and he scampered up to retrieve the cache for me. Signed it, sent it back up, and another on the road to 81 is achieved. TFTC!
On a rather cold windy morning, one last holiday in memory of good old QEII, thought I'd get some in. Here's to Liz, long live Chuck the Third....
What the hell was I thinking doing this one? More that it's done, nice and easy as per 4 rating. Must be bloody mad at my age Cheers!

Went at a busy time but I managed to scramble up during a break in the 5pm traffic. It was a lot of fun, thanks!
Finally got to do this one ….. much easier to do in a weekend …. These sort of caches are always fun TFTC
Visiting Christchurch and came out to spend some time at the Antartica centre. On the way back into town detoured to this cache. Pretty quiet so took the opportunity to find the cache. A few muggles passed while I was up the tree but didn’t seem to have any idea what was happening in the real world of geocaching. Thanks for the smiley.
Replaced the cache today (the old one wasn't in great shape, as per previous log). New outer container (with added holes for better drainage). Cache log is still in a pill bottle. This time time the pill bottle sits in a larger pill bottle bottom (please replace it assembled that way).
Wow great work out for the legs was abit of water in first container so tipped it out , also the metal mint container had rusted shut
Can't believe we are already in April... For Easter Friday, we stopped by, all was quiet at GZ, easy spotting by little cacher, who also spotted a wasp nest, just close by. So be extra cautious when you walk around GZ. About 2 meters east of GZ, in the ground/needles, there is a WASP nest, if you step on it, they won't like it (and you neither). Climb was made by our strongest member, who soon had the container sorted. A little rust inside the first container but logbook and inner container were fine. Thanks for this really nice cache. Yes Slitherlink puzzle are difficult... After a few evenings, I stopped, as couldn't figure those out.
Second geocache in New Zealand. Here for work and haven’t had time to get out and enjoy finding a geocache until the end of my trip. This one was the closest to the hotel. A coworker who came with me agreed to get this one for me. Easily found, log signed, placed back where he’d found it. TFTC!
Team BOP on another crazy mission again to the South Island. Lockdown gave us a lot of free time that we directed into Canterbury’s many Geo-Arts and with the Auckland 2020 Mega postponement, Christchurch was an easy decision. Team BOPs current incarnation is DavidsonClan, NZFlossy, McJandals and myself and we’ve signed all the logs as Team BOP to save time and log space.
So Labour Weekend 2020, it’s a numbers mission, the Cachly cut’n’paste template is sorted and while I unapologetically use this tool, I really appreciate you placing this cache for us to find. We're just having a wander round today with no particular plan although we seem to be clearing a large radius from the airport. The terrain intrigued me here so we had to check it out. We spotted the cache straight away and immediately I emptied my pockets and got to work. Contents weren't bad but the cache is collecting water - an easy favourite point here. Cheers StreetWalkerNZ & TFTC

With the Mega Covid cancelled this year a part of Team BoP decided to come south and try get all our solved puzzles, and some others along the way. So here we are!
A Fp. Philip took one for the team. Awesome thanks.
I am logging using the Cachly app template so please excuse generic logging along the way. It’s just my way of keeping track, but I do genuinely thank each and every one of you cache owners for taking the time and energy to place these cache. Many Thanks for bringing me here. Cheers.

As Auckland Mega has been postponed we decided to do a trip south to Christchurch. Four of us from Team BOP joined up to share a car and accomodation. I always love these weekends as the company is great and makes our days and nights out caching lots of fun. We have done lots of puzzles in preparation and did some long windy roads to get them. Found lots of great caches and thanks to all the COs for the effort that goes into these Please excuse the copied logs and I will try to make some individual notes on as many as I can This sort of trip is where I find the cachly app very valuable This was another fun group cache TFTC
On a mission to the south after mega in Auckland was canceled. Team Bop booked airfares and here we are. Thanks all COs for your efforts. Due to numbers please excuse copy and paste logs in advance.
Killing time before our flight, drove to this then realized the T rating... sorry, but I'm gonna rocket up there today...
Visiting Christchurch from Wellington for the weekend and have a few hours to spare, so a caching I will go. Luckily I was dressed appropriately for this, and it was dead quiet at this location at midday on a Sunday, so up I went. No problems, signed log and made it down safely. That was fun. TFTC
Drove around this park in circles trying to figure out where it was, then finally got to the tree. Took a minute or two to get up to the cache, but I really enjoyed climbing up. TFTC!
Back for a second try after not being tall enough yesterday. I managed to get half-way up.... So, bit of a team effort today and success was ours. Helps to have a 16-year old spider-monkey. It's nice to have a cache that's a little tricky. TFTC a fav for me.
Finally! In the end it took a bit of help from Bo&bronnie (who has been here before) to get me up there and the log signed.
Nice to get this "closest to work" cache found.

Last weekend I swung past here to have a quick squiz at this to check what I might be up for. With the area recon'd and on the way home from the airport this evening I stopped off to have a go and up and up I went....phew there it is! This isn't the first time I've been up a tree looking for a #treecache when people pass by beneath me completely oblivious to my activities. There was a little water in the main container which I emptied out before leaving my mark on the dry log and safely returning the cache to its secure position. Now for the hard part - getting down. Nice work StreetWalkerNZ, have a favourite point for the experience.
On my way to Australia I needed to grab one more cache! Even with all the muggles I managed the climb. Until next time, New Zealand...
We came, we saw, but we did not conquer. Anna looked up and said I'm not going up there. I looked down at my footwear, then to tree and decided that I need sneakers and something to get me up the first part of the tree. Having a dodgy knee and being a Gold Card holder I will return better prepared.
Meeting over in a building 150m away so before the trip home 500 km or so had to get this one. I recommend wearing clothes over your bare arms as I git a little bark damage. My team was me and Geoman13 so left the young man at base and climbed it. It is really a long way up and down hence the DT. A good cache for this cacher a couple of years shy of 60. TFTC Fav pt.
After getting to the gz I spotted the cache and started the climb with my brother. Reached the cache reasonably easily. There was a random mint tin there as well. Very cool cache fav point from me.

We are so very sorry ... One of us broke it. After opening the latch, the pill bottle turned out to be wedged very firmly in the bottom of the outer container. Turning it upside down and tapping on the bottom did not help. With one arm wrapped around a branch to avoid falling, an attempt was made to poke the bottle out with a pen, this being the only tool to hand. In the struggle the thin plastic hinge of the outer container broke off. Knocking the container against a branch then dislodged the bottle, which fell to the ground. But with the hinge broken we did not know what to do. After signing the log we have replaced it in the outer container, which is now in a nook at the first foothold for the climb, covered in pine needles. Our apologies to the cache owner, but it needs urgent repair. With any replacement it would help to have an inner container thin enough that it is impossible for it to get wedged like it was. Otherwise there might be future accidents for those of us less technically adept than Bill Pickering.
Replaced outer container. Have added an empty eclipse tin to keep the pill bottle vertical (which will hopefully stop it from getting stuck again).
We spotted the cache location quickly which ruled me out, My team mate started the tree climb while I was reading the activity so it quickly became an easier find than normal today. Definitely a great hide. Tftc.
Wow wow wow what an amazing cache!!!! Has to be one of my favourite yet! Thanks sooo much for this cache!
This was a tricky cache to get to! There was a little bit of water in the outer container, and the little container inside was stuck! My son did a great job climbing up, but had to bring it down to use tools to extract the small container! All good now, cache returned to its hiding place. Thanks for a challenging placement.
Had to climb the tree twice after reaching the log and realising I hadn't brought a pen up with me. Good challenge. Tftc
I love a tree climb, so this gets a FP for the location alone. Definitely not for week days. I came on a Sunday morning. Unfortunately the log book was a sodden mess. And I didn't have a replacement sheet on me. Will need maintenance. Thanks to all cache owners for taking the time to place and maintain your caches. Team Broadbent (signed TB on micros). Find # 1916
Replaced log with a piece of water proof paper, and also replaced the inner and outer containers.
Very clever! Found on a GirlGuiding NZ Outdoor Essentials training! Log is very wet. TFTC!
Sunday, the perfect day for this one. The cache was spotted from the ground and looked like an easy climb. A bit of a jump from the ground and up I went. Long arms for the win, saved me from going another level higher. Stretch and unclick, success! A bit of water in the cache but the log is still dry. Another stretch to get the cache back and then climb down, jumping out of the tree as a dog walking lady wandered past - she looked a little surprised! Cheers, great fun if not a little heart rate increasing.
Tftc #teamawesome. Was a difficult retrieve on a busy day... is very wet so didnt sign log
Since my note on the day of publication I've been up here four times. Every time I'm more determined than the last and every time I get foiled by my hind brain.
I have a 'thing' about heights and no matter how much the modern logical part of my brain tells the older fear based part that I'm fine I just can't get more than 2/3 there. I'm sure I've been that high before, just with an easier climb. Looks like this one has beaten me.

Two oldies were not going to shin up to get this one and no agile young men wandered by as we gazed up it.
Today's mission was marginally less abitious than yesterday's however sadly also less successful. I ended up with a mere three finds of seven targets and around 10,000 steps - and two frozen cokes.
This one is between DNF and Found as I could clearly see it but as I didn't do enough prior research I was there on a week day and decided this tree had beaten me.
T F T C anyway StreetWalkerNZ.

Managed to grab the cache ok. But u do wonder how a log in a plastic bag and a sealed container can get wet. Lol. Still managed to sight tge wet log. Tftc
Well that sure is an early morning buzz!! I'm down in Christchurch for a few days and spotted this cache yesterday. Decided on an early morning to pick up this and the st michaels & all angels cache. Got my feet wet first then headed out here. My biggest problem here was reaching up and trying to shut the container whilst maintaining my balance. Took me several attempts but I succeeded. Challenging (for the over fifties) but fun cache, TFTC - a favourite from me
Many thanks to Liz for doing the honours. This one had been on our list for a long time so when a group was arranged at the near by event we had to tag along. TFTC
After a lovely camping trip at Woodend and a delicious breakfast and fun event I walked to ground zero with MacPacMum and Mrs MeandPedro. MacPacMum had kindly offered to climb the tree. Thanks MacPacMum you're a legend!

Well, well, Well, wasn't this just the perfect cache to perk me up after a rather long day. Thank you for the climb and the adrenaline rush of no longer being a child in a tree. This find may my day.
When first published, I thought of Elton John's "Rocket Man" lyrics
"And I think it's gonna be a long long time 'Til touch down brings me round again to find " .... this awesome geocache ! No sad songs here today, sometimes you can take the right path along the golden brick road and with a little help from my friends - land this cache !
Yep, easy find, more challenging to sign ! All clear at ground control, smooth take off and gentle landing on this sunny Saturday afternoon. Thanks CO for this interesting cache and location.

With the event in town today, mum and I planned a quick mission to get a few caches early morning before it! So we packed the ladder in the car boot amongst other things, and headed off to find some caches that would probably be better to be found when there is not many people around!
So I left the baby at home with hubby, and snuck out with them all still in bed!
The ladder wasn't really helpful here, but we still managed to find the cache. What a perfect time to go searching!
Cache container hinge appears to be gone, but if closed carefully, it will still hold!

I came to this one on a Monday Mad Mission with TW & TG. While we waited for new caches to be published (as you do), we went about collecting some unfound ones. TW went up the tree (nice!), and TG and I watched from below. Log was wet.

TG came and grabbed me and then we grabbed 8MA for a MMM. We had no plan tonight except to grab anything going. We even grabbed a few caches to place. The 'plan' if you want to call that was cruise around mopping up some of the new caches and some old ones for 8MA and I. Do a bit of cache maintenace and see what happens. Ended up being a great night (as usual) and driving hither and yon and coming home in the small hours.
Awesome. Parking wasn't an issue at this time of the day. Up the tree. The cache's outer container is broken and in was full of water. Had a photo and a laugh. Nice one.
Thanks for the cache StreetWalkerNZ.

Just dropped our daughter off at the airport, and decided to do some caching. Spotted this and 6pm on a Sunday afternoon is an ideal time to make the find. Ms KR helped me he first step up at GZ, and then when I dropped the inner container she came to the rescue again. Cool tree. Thanks for the hide, and a fav for your trouble. Cheers.

This was our last day in New Zealand.
We have been here more than 3 weeks and had a very great time.
Before we got into the plane there was still time for geocaching.
After a short search we found it in his hidden place.
We were so sad: this is our last one in New Zealand!
Thank you very much and greetings from Germany.

When the description said it was in a tree, I wasn't expecting it to be that high up. Little bit tricky signing the log when you are half way up a tree. TFTC
13 December 2016 21:21 This was only about 150m from MacPacDad's work... but MacPacMum is the one to do hights and started climbing trees at age 3. Still a bit of effort required for the earning of this smilie . TFTC StreetWalkerNZ

Just some post-earthquake caching.
Oh, finally a proper tree climbing cache! 10 out of ? done in Christchurch! (GC677PW, GC4XM5W, GC68AX5, GC4WCQN, GC39V5R, GC6JYZ1, GC63XB1, GC6PD2N, GC4XQW5, *GC6TV0N* )
Now, reflecting back on those I've done, I can say that this one is one of the best of those I've done. Most of them didn't really involve much climbing and were just a little bit off the ground. This one and [Sculpted Nature](https://coord.info/GC4WCQN) are the nicest climbs so far.
As I **flitted** up the tree, I wondered how it would feel up a tree if another big earthquake or a big aftershock hit.
Thanks for the cache!
