We spent most of today in the Whangrei Heads area and picked up a few caches along the way. Visited Ocean Beach briefly but not a nice enough day for a swim. This cache was a quick find. #8043. TFTC.
Yep as previous logs. Found the spot but no sighting of log. Will message CO today. Great spot though - thanks
have taken photo as proof of life for this brightest log Ive ever seen. Thanks Gorby. Love your work
Find #692Found while walking Te Araroa - new Zealands long pathway from Cape Reinga to Bluff. Thank you to all the cache owners who place and maintain these caches, and thank you to all the people who help me and others on the way. Happy 4000 Gorby! Tricky find here, GZ was overlooked by multiple campervans. Luckily I was staying nearby so returned later and after a few rounds of the tree had made the found. Cache is in good condition, luckily didn't need to sift through the rotting pile of empty sea urchins
Congratulations on 4000+.I just passed 900.
What a great root system, so many opportunities for a hide but I eventually located the spot. TFTC

1820. 11:10 am. DNF avenged. Tricky to get to with so much standing water from a very wet summer but cache found safe and dry. TFT(replaced)C(and congrats on the previous milestone).
Yes - the tree is really big! We climed over the roots to search for the cache and were about to give up when we found the cache after all.
Wow, that's really a big tree. It took us a while to find the cache here, but we were really impressed by the tree and all the possibilities to hide a cache here.

A nice quick find. The tree is well rooted. Congratulations on the milestone, you have passed a few more now! Thanks for placing your cache.
Ms_KR and I are off on our annual pilgrimage to Auckland to visit family. Up to Northland for a few days, cruised to Whangarei Heads and back via a Celebration Event in Onerahi. Another great day.
Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. .

Out to Ocean Beach to complete the HMS Puriri waypoint, so called in here as well. Oh dear, we can fail with fig trees even with a hint. Mrs D thought it was logical to search the far side of the tree. Luckily Mr D came to help and spotted it on the way in. Lots of rubbish unfortunately.
This one took a bit of hunting but Mrs KC found it. A bit confused with the log book as it didn't match the logs so I've sent a pic to the co. Cache size now more of a small than a large. TFTC
Thanks Gorby for confirming we had found the right cache, I would congratulate you on your 4000th but you are about 6,000 past there now. Shows how long it has taken us to get here.

Mrs TW and I went for a drive out to Whangarei Heads to do the Ad Lab. When we spotted a nearby cache with a familiar name we had to go and find it. We both circled the magnificent tree specimen several times looking in every nook and cranny without success. Re-read the cache page and saw we were looking for a regular, and realised we would have spotted that by now. Then I happened to glance in a certain direction and noticed something I had not yet checked, and there was the container. Much smaller than expected, but definitely the cache. Glad to turn this one into a smiley, and a belated congratulations on your 4000th Gorby! TFTC.
Sorry about the confusion Team Welsh, rusty replaced this cache today, hence no names on the new paper except yours.
About to leave the North after a week of exploring.
Was here a few weeks ago with the CO on a maintenance run.
Back here today to sign the log. Whilst searching did some CITO (even tried to extract a brown glass bottle which is now part of the tree, entombed) .
Unexpectedly could not find the cache., circling at least 3 times, moving leaf litter about and extending further along the trees roots.
Eventually decided to ring the co from gz but no connection, so had to drive off. When I got to the main road rung again and this time he picked up.
After a short chat, the plan was to replace, luckily I had a container and paper.
Drove back to the carpark and replaced the cache with permission.
Its nearly lunch time, where did the morning go?
Thanks for the hide and congratulations on 4000 finds

I went out to here with rustynz in her car. We had just done Manaia Manaia cache for her 8000th milestone and then a low tide EC then here. Brought along a new cache, rusty provided extra paper which was waterproof(I think) then I re-hid it in a new location.
Hoping to replace this one next Saturday when a group of us will be up this way.
No luck here today. The gardeners have been and most of the ground cover cleared away.
The weather was grey and overcast with rain threatening, so we made an early start to explore this area. The carpark was almost empty so we were able to park within a few metres of gz.
There has been some recent gardening and trimming of the agapanthus in the garden where the cache is, but the cache is still in place. TFTC Gorby

Great find in the lower carpark. Quick park and grab if you don't want to get sand on your feet.
Having parked up for the night and a stroll on the beach, we headed back to the camper and what do you know.... a cache just 60mts away. Fortunately there was only the campervans left at this stage so the coast was clear for a quick find.
I left a pet rock - a possum.
Thanks for putting this here, and congrats on the milestone, although I know your way past that now.

Congratulations on your 4000th! It is probably double that already! Have fun. All good here. TFTC
Touring the far north and Auckland region with Flowerydaze. After the postponement of the Mega we decided to come north anyway and take time out for caching. Lovely area and lovely weather. TFTC.
A QEF thanks to good co-ords and a helpful hint. Spotted by Talla64. Thanks for the cache.
We camped close by so after tent set up i went for a walk and nab this one..
Now back to get tea and bed at 5 pm hiker midnight

Привет майкл Теперь у вас есть вдвое больше. Может быть, я все еще могу найти ваш 8000-й. В любом случае, много поздравлений от Карлоса.
Stopped to camp for the night and parked right next to this cache!! TFTC!! So fun! Made this Canadian girl very happy!
Am Ende unseres Strandtages auch noch diese Dose gesucht, gefunden und mit unserem Stempel das Logbuch signiert.
At the end of our beach day we also searched for this can, found it and signed the logbook with our stamp.

Time to grab another quick cache as visiting and all good here. Noted the code for maybe future use, or not. T F T C Gorby.
A caching day of three halves today. The first part of the day was spent up the top of Parihaka which I'd been eyeing up since last visit but we managed to get a few whilst up that way along with mrs c, son Ed and the 3 year old twins, a 2 year old and little Mahlia in the carrier on his chest. All this overlaid with yet another scorcher of a day and good fun and sweating was just the trick. For the rest of the day we headed out to Whangarei Heads for a first trip out that way and with a timing for low tide on Ngunguru spit to be made we didn't stay too long out there.
Good variety today and some awesome scenery, again. Thanks to all COs.
After a weekend in Wellington and catching up with my UK based mother and her cruise trip to NZ, we made the most of being up here on the North Island and added an extra 6 days in Northland to the trip itinerary. We flew up to Auckland on Sunday afternoon and after a faff around with a hire car we took the scenic/dark route up the Helennsville highway to the North. Arrived late on Sunday night and straight to sleep. We had a week with son Ed and his 4 under 3 years old children. Fun time was had and some nice experiences.

Found this in the morning before doing a loop to the top here. For some reason I didn't have all the info on my app, but luckily enough I was able to find a sensible location before the crowds arrived. Thanks!
Found it. And it was my container!! Did I replace it sometime and forget to log it????
Final find of day 17 of our Te Araroa thru-hike. We're camped about 300 feet from here!
Back up in Whangarei for the weekend, doing a bit of Coastal sightseeing with a friend. Called in at Ocean Beach and the car park was super quiet today, so walked right up to GZ and made a quick find of the cache. TFTC!
Just had to visit Ocean Beach while we were up North - congrats, Gorby, your cache was neatly stashed for me to find while everyone was focused on other things. Love this area, but it's a LOT busier than when I was here before. TFTC
Lol while we removed most of the flaxes today, another workmate found the icecream container! Knew about me. And gave to to me.
Have put log sheet in new container.
Removed container.

Thanks Nic, mappreciate your work. Looking from the pics you posted, I hardly recognise GZ anymore. When I'm back up that way, probably March, I'll come and take a look!
Didn’t expect one of the Gorby’s caches here. We found it with no problem. We are on our way to Katikati and then back to Auckland. TFTC
Better luck this time.....cache has been replaced and all good at GZ...great spot for a cache. Thanks for the cache
No luck for me here. I was with a past finder who thinks the area around GZ has had some recent garden work done.
Out exploring this wonderful place and got in some caching along the way

Had a jaunt out to see if we could see the super blue blood moon. Corner seen but too much cloud.
If need be let me know I can help on replacement.

Came up from Auckland to replace this bad boy! Please make sure people it is well hidden when you leave, I don't really want to make too many cache maintenance trips for this one! Same container as before, big ol' ice cream container with a smaller click-clack container within, new water proof paper added. Have fun people!
Should be a really easy find, the container is large enough not to be missed!! So looks like it needs some maintenance.
I will be up this way in a few weeks to check up on my cache, will replace it if it's gone, unless someone finds it in the mean time.
Unfortunately we couldn't find it either despite a really good hunt......really nice day to be at GZ with sister tikitour......
Congratulation - 4000 finds well done. I was real keen on finding this cache as I have not met many cachers but Mr Gorby is one that I have met. My phone GPS was playing silly buggers so I think I was searching in the right spot but to no avail. Never mind. Thanks Gorby.
Noticed when logging this find, that there was supposed to be a TB in this cache, but I didn't see it a few days ago. Checked again today to make sure and it's definitely not there.
Like you Gorby, I was hoping for a special one for my 1000th cache, so came out to the Peach Cove track in the blustery showery conditions to give Te Whara or Eagle Rock a try. However, I nearly got blown off the road straight after leaving the car, so I figured up top it would be even worse and probably quite dangerous.
I decided to skip these ones and headed over to Busby Head instead, which is still part of the Beam Head reserve, where my 500 and 900 milestones have been.
Came back today to look for this one. Luckily there were few muggles about and no vehicles near GZ, so was able to look around unnoticed and soon located the cache.

I am sorry for really late log.
I found it with Dratenik. It was our first today, fifth day on the lovely New Zealand. We slept no far from it and after loging we left for hunting other caches in neighborhood. One of them became our first FTF on the New Zealand.
Thank you for the cache.

[ We tried to find it at night, but we quickly left it and waited for the morning. As it turned out, we even looked in the wrong square. ] It needs to be laid deep into the bushes. [ There was nobody there at that time. I can not imagine how they hunt when is a full car park. We went to the beach and then headed for Busby Head.
Thanks for the cache. ]

Wow ...all this time after placement and I was still lucky enough to get STF!
Had some unfinished business ( caching of course ) that I wanted to do up here ,,,, So after a long stint of living 24/7 at work for 2 weeks I was given 2 days off , so tagged them onto a weekend !
Found a lovely airbnb ....and the lady has even done geocaching !
This was one cache I was keen to do , as I was present at Gorby's mountain climb 2 weeks ago !
Thanks for placing this ! A bit wet and cool today , so no swimming this time ....
