After seeing the various earthquake consequences around the city, this memorial was a logical place to visit too.The final coorda were nicy found and there the little fella was. Thanks!Oh, and the logbook is now full.
The last one in nz and Christchurch. Solving the task was not difficult at all. At the final the fingers should have been a little more sensitive. A good cache, thanks for showing the memorial.
Today we also targeted longer caches. This also included multi-part virtual caches in the Botanical Garden. Three multis were successfully identified. Three lab caches with a bonus were also found. Another day with the beautiful garden and the old former university buildings. There was a lot of information and we learned a lot of interesting things. Many thanks to the owners and greetings from the Moorhelmi
Down in Christchurch for the UFBA conference, and finding some caches in my spare time (on foot) Today with a couple hours spare before dinner my goal was: a trad (GC4RQVV West Bridge) a multi (GC710QD We will remember them) a puzzle/mystery (GC4V1NG Me and My Drum - solved and got coords but dnf) a Wherigo (GC7CMVF Needle in a Haystack) a virtual (GC9P7KX Built to Last) I wanted to do this multi as a small tribute and reflection of what Christchurch has been through the last decade and a bit. Theres not too many NZers who werent affected - either directly, or indirectly by the devastation of that day and its aftermath. As a first aid tutor for the NZFS (now FENZ) at the time, I was flown down here a couple months after to run a course. And I was deeply moved by what I was seeing down here at the time. The Christchurch people have my respect for their resiliency. This wall is a beautiful memorial to those that died on that day, and thank you to the CO for bringing me to this spot, and the sensitive manner in which you allowed people to find the cache in another way if needed On the cache itself (and on a lighter note..) these type of caches over this type of terrain give me anxiety - Im just the clumsiest kind of person to drop it and its gone forever. Hlsningar frn Sverige, sdra Lappland Then it was time for a little adventure. The trip goes to Sydney in Australia and then on to Christchurch and Dunedin in New Zealand .On the trip are, Tigertassen, myself, ursus67, Lnganfans and Pidjas go, which means that we log under the common name "Tulp". The idea is that before we go home we should have visited a Megaevent, Geo Toroa. Greetings from Sweden, southern Lapland
7.3 World travelers adventure log.Out and about exploring the world with Nildran on this epic adventure! Thanks for adding to our memories and letting us explore your favorite spots all over the world! It continues to be a wild ride!TFTC SLIf you find yourself at a local pub during trivia night, and the category is:'States shaped like a Mitten'here is some information that may help you win that round:Michigan trivia 7.333. The Detroit metro area sits atop a gigantic salt mine. According to some estimates, there's enough salt down there to last for 70 million years at the world's current rate of consumption. Pass the potato chips! 34. The nation's first tribally-owned casino was Kings Club Casino, operated by the Ojibwe Indians of Bay Mills.35. During the war of 1812, Detroit was hotly-contested territory. It was surrendered to the British in 1812, but the first attempt to retake the city in 1813 resulted in the River Raisin Massacre, which had the highest number of American casualties of any battle of the war. Detroit was finally recovered some nine months later during the Battle of Lake Erie.36. The Cross in the Woods Catholic shrine in Indian River has a 31-foot high crucifix, the largest one in the world.37. The nation as a whole learned how to spell the name of Kalamazoo (well, sort of) in 1942 when the Glen Miller song "(I've Got a Gal in) Kalamazoo" hit the top of the charts.38. The Kalamazoo Mall was the first outdoor pedestrian shopping mall in the United States.39. Kalamazoo was also the original home of Gibson Guitars, and a budget model produced in the 60s and 70s was called the Kalamazoo.40. A Roseville man who dropped a couple of F-bombs after falling out of his canoe was convicted in 1999 under a law that had been on the books since 1897 prohibiting indecent, immoral, obscene, vulgar or insulting language in the presence or hearing of any woman or child. In 2002 the conviction was overturned by the Michigan Court of Appeals, and the law was struck down at the same time.41. It is still against the law in Michigan, however, to contumeliously reproach God, assuming you can even figure out what that means.42. In 2008, the city of Flint passed a law that gave police the authority to arrest anyone whose pants sagged so low as to expose their undies or bare butts. The local plumber's union has evidently declined to comment (or comply).43. Brighton and Grand Rapids have laws against being annoying, although Grand Rapids, obviously unwilling to foot the bill for jailing its entire populace, is planning to abolish that law ASAP.
We are four ladies from Sweden who are visiting Australia and New Zeeland We are logged as TULP This was one of the caches we found Thanks from Sweden
We are four ladies from Sweden on visit in New Zealand. We log as TULP (tigertassen, ursus67, lnganfans and pidjas). Today we took a walking tour in the city of Christchurch. We walked quite some time and the weather was a bit cool so we stayed for a warm coffee. A big thank you to CO for the cache.
A plan was hatched quite a while ago when the Dunedin Mega was announced to come over to the South Island again.I have only been to New Zealand twice before and I loved the South Island. So a chance to come back for a Mega was a no brainer for me.Everything was booked and I flew in yesterday after a bit of a delay.Im staying at the old Offices Mess building at the old Airforce Base and it is a wonderful old building.Day 2 begins so lets go find a few caches.Enjoying my walk around town on foot and taking in a lot of the sites and scenery. It is a shame about all of the damage that the quake caused but it is great to see the town rising above adversity.I remember when this happened as it was all over the news in OZ for quite awhile.A very sad and moving memorial and most of these people were just going on with their day. Thanks 2wombles TFTMC.
Day #2 Christchurch - The Mega New Zealand ExperienceA chance for an overseas Mega was too good to pass up. Especially with half the state seeming to be attending also. I set about some last minute planning. Flights still available Accommodation found Mode of transport securedLooks like its time to cross the ditch. Ive never visited the South Island before so it is bound to be a fun filled trip.I arrived after dark last night so today is my first chance to see the sights.I just managed to sneak my initials into this logbook after taking a walk along the memorial. Such an awful time for the city.A big thanks goes to 2wombles for taking the time to add Earthquake Memorial (Canterbury) to the geocaching map for us all to find and enjoy.----------------------------------------------------------Wow! The fun just never stops.Have you logged your will attend for Victoria's first ever Block Party? (Think Mega but even more special!)Join us on 22-23 March 2025 in Sunbury to celebrate 25 years of geocaching by logging your will attend at [**GCAP417**](https://coord.info/GCAP417).
TFTC log full pic sent to cache owner.Easily worked out numbers. Had to extend search about 6 meters.
We are all the way down here in NZ to support our daughter at a sporting competition. And we are making the most of our time to check out the beautiful city of Christchurch and grab some Southern hemisphere caches! We made the calculations harder than they needed to be but got there eventually. QEF at GZ. TFTC
Have previously tried solving this but got very random numbers. Finally had some helpful assistance to set me back on the right path so I could get this signed off Log is getting quite full although I'll admit I didn't unwind it all the way to check the rest of it...Tftc!
Thanks for bringing me to this memorial in my old home town. I lost my pen earlier in the day so photo attached
In Chch for a break, hadn't seen the memorial. Sobering but glad to pause here for a quiet moment. Thanks for bringing me here, and placing the cache.

I had gathered the info last time I was in town, and made a point to double back and grab the final today before heading over to the local event, TFTC
Saturday Morning I was bored, so randomly booked a plane ticket to Christchurch. While in the area I decided to look for a few random caches. After not having much luck at night caching, I decided on Sunday to visit Hagley Park.I followed an adventurelab which brought me to this area, so I sat down and did some maths. I quickly worked out where the cache was, but had to continue to the very end to locate it.
So pleased a cache has been designed to start here. A sad place but one to not miss and a cache to bring us here so we would not miss the memorial. To see all the names listed beings it home to you how many sadly died in this disaster. An to work out and off to GZ after our thoughts to find the cache itself. Easy find at GZ. TFTC and greetings from the UK. Favourite point awarded
(2 of 3 today)Greetings from over the ditch! Finally getting around to logging this...What should have been Day 5 of the test ends up being a free day. So with my two muggle compatriots we took the opportunity to sightsee.I particularly enjoyed the Earthquake Museum. My last visit to this city had only been a few months before the quake, so seeing the city like this has been a shock. But good to see so much fixed up as well. But being with friends I limited myself to only 3 finds - what self-restraint. Well, either that or they were going to walk off without me!###END OF CUT AND PASTE SECTION###My muggle friends were only too happy to visit this spot - and I was only too happy to grab the cache!Collected the info and calculated GZ.Once there it took longer than it should to make the find - missed it on my first sweep. But it didn't escape me for long.Made the grab, signed and replaced. and now we're headed for a museum.SLTNLNTFTC
Thanks for bringing us to this sobering monument. Quick find at calculated coordinates
The last part of the journey starts on the southern part of the island. Our group (downunder24) visits beautiful places with the aim of collecting caches. It is very impressive. Thank you very much. Greetings from Germany, muschel3 ??
Natrlich wurden Caches gesucht, virtuelle aufgesucht und beantwortet und das alles mit dem Teamnamen downunder2024 umhin den Logbchern oder emailbriefksten keine berfllung hervor zurufen??.T4t$ sagt viko76?? aus BerlinToday our day tour went from Blenheim to Christchurch, on the way we stopped for the seal banks and a few cans. Then the only webcam in New Zealand was visited together and a great group photo was taken.I liked it very much in Christchurch itself, a small and really charming city. I would have liked to have stayed here even longer.Of course, caches were searched for, virtual ones were searched and answered and all this with the team name downunder2024 in order not to cause overcrowding of the logbooks or email mailboxes??.T4t$ says viko76?? from Berlin

Danke fr diesen Geocache. Danke fr die Ausarbeitung. Danke frs Zeigen.Lieber Gru aus Duisburg / DeutschlandAndyDieser Logeintrag wird mit Hilfe von Google bersetzt.__________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________________We set off on a long journey with 37 geocachers from Germany, Denmark, Luxembourg and Switzerland. Three weeks to Australia and New Zealand, starting with a stopover in Doha, Qatar. I have never been so long and so far away from home. An exciting time. When geocaching, the focus was on many different cache types, but also special ratings, challenges and especially a few very old caches from the years 2000 and 2001. But also, of course, especially the geocaches that were easily accessible on foot from the hotel.Of course, the focus wasn't just on geocaching; the sights of the individual stations we visited also deserved attention. We entered our team name Downunder 2024 in the logbooks, saving logbook space and efficiently. It was a very special trip in a large team, which was also a lot of fun.Today we took the bus from Blenheim to Christchurch. Thanks for this geocache. Thanks for the elaboration. Thank you for showing me.Kind regards from Duisburg / GermanyAndyThis log entry is translated with the help of Google.

Together with 36 other geocachers, the KiSt team undertook a very long trip to Australia ???? and New Zealand ???? for three weeks. On both the outward and return journeys, there was a stopover in Doha, the capital of Qatar ????.We experienced a great deal on this trip and gained many very different impressions of the two countries, their nature and their culture. Of course, the main focus was on visiting as many caches of as many different types as possible and also all accessible old cans. However, we also made sure to visit many special places of interest and to gain as comprehensive an impression as possible of nature and its flora and fauna. To save the logbooks, we usually signed in with our team name **Downunder24**. For "special" cans, however, we have not missed the opportunity to leave our nickname as well. This beautiful cache is now also one of our finds.Due to the large number of caches visited, it is unfortunately not possible for us to write an individual log for each can, which is why we would like to apologize to the owners for this collective log.We also met other cachers at some of the events and were able to share our experiences. Many thanks to the event owners!Of course we would like to thank all the owners for showing us the great locations, the sometimes tricky puzzles, exciting multis and wherigos, as well as the interesting virtuals and earth caches - TFTC!!!---In der Besetzung KiSt unternahmen wir zusammen mit 36 weiteren Geocachern fr drei Wochen eine sehr weite Reise nach Australien ???? und Neuseeland ????.

Fifth day in New Zealand ??. This is my first visit to this extraordinary country and the fulfillment of a long-cherished dream. In the past, it always failed due to the lack of a travel companion. Now I had the chance to join a large group of mainly German geocachers and I was delighted to take it. After a stopover in Qatar and 8 days in Australia, our journey continued from Auckland to Queenstown with various stopovers.Today we continued our journey by bus from Blenheim to Christchurch along the coast. As soon as we got our hotel rooms, we set off to discover the city. **After our walk through the botanical garden, we stopped at the memorial. In the late afternoon, it was a quiet and depressing memorial to the victims of the earthquake, but nevertheless beautifully laid out as a terrace directly on the Avon River. We noted down the required values and determined the final. Given the size of the logbook, we only entered our team abbreviation DownUnder24 to save space. More would have exceeded the capacity ??????.**Thank you for laying & taking care .Fnfter Tag in Neuseeland ??.

A group of 38 geocachers from Germany, Denmark, Luxembourg and Switzerland - Team Downunder24 - are traveling for 22 days from Frankfurt/Main via Doha to Australia and New Zealand. I was able to discover many wonderful things and irretrievable experiences are burned into my memory. Today our bus tour went from Blenheim to Christchurch. Shortly after arriving, I set out to refresh my memories of my last visit 21 years and 4 days ago, to experience the earthquake-stricken city and its buildings and of course to look for cache. I really liked it - seeing old and new connected together and the atmosphere by the river was relaxed and pleasant. Thanks to 2wombles for the cache, luring and caring for it - kind regards from Switzerland
Greetings from Germany/Luxembourg
Today we arrived in Christchurch and did a little sightseeing-tour through the town. We logged with our team name DownUnder24. Thank you very much for the cache!
Out and about scootering with AlpiSteve. After a yummy dinner at Riverside Market we made out way to the waypoint and soon had the numbers we needed. Took us a few minutes to locate the cache but did so once we broadened our search ?? TFTC
We are currently on a eight week holiday which is mostly spent in New Zealand and Australia. However, the first three days were spent in Signapore as a nice break from an otherwise long flight. This morning we arrived in Christchurch and after checking in in our hotel we go out and explore the city. There is a light drizzle every now and then but that does not stop us. We were here quite some time ago and are curious how much it has changed especially after the devastating earthquakes in 2011. So this memorial was a must visit. Very impressive and sobering. The necessary information was retrieved easily and after the calulatons we headed to GZ were the cache was found without any problem. Thank you very much for this multi.
We arrived in Christchurch for our two-month trip through New Zealand and Australia. We pick up our rental car and drive to our hotel. The evening is long and there is enough time for a cache tour in the city.A nice short multi and the cache was quickly found.**2wombles**, thanks for the cache.
Visited to get the info on the 22nd, about lunchtime, and wondered why there was a crowd - how time flies. Forgot to times that variable by two, thanks to the CO for finding my error, and returned today on a walk around town to sign. A lot quieter today and took a moment to reflect. Tftc
Visiting from Ottawa, Canada. Last day of three weeks on the South Island. Head to Sydney tomorrow. Beautiful place! TFTC
A solemn but lovely way to remember.Muggle-hubby and I have spent the last 13 days in the South Island. Initially our visit was so that hubby could play basketball in the New Zealand Masters Games in Dunedin. When I wasn't watching him play basketball, I spent every moment that I could get away finding caches. What a great collection of excellent caches! Following the basketball tournament, we headed North and spent the next 6 days travelling around the Canterbury area where we went touristing, generally guided by my "To Find" list.During our day exploring Christchurch, I found this cache. The coordinates were worked out, (thanks for the checksum), and we wandered to GZ where the cache was quickly to hand. Thanks, 2wombles, for this cache which makes us thankful for what we have.
Soon had answers. Been shocked by how many open spaces are still in centre after the quakes. SL tftc
I didn't really want to come here, but it's a fine memorial and a straightforward cache. Found the name I look for, and then the cache. The white chairs memorial had a great impact, but this does a good job. Well done 2wombles.
. . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . Today we spent another lovely day here in Christchurch. In the evening we also walked past this cache and stopped by and took a closer look at the memorial. All answers were easy to find. After a short walk, this was a quick find and we were able to write our names into the dry logbook. I'm very happy about this one more found cache here in New Zealand! Many thanks to 2wombles for leading us here and for showing this place and of course also for working out this multi cache and caring about this cache here on site!Best wishes from the North Sea, Germany, from Cuxine . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . . ________________oooooooo____________oooooooooooooo_________oooooooooooooooooo________oooooooooooooooooooo_______oooooooooooooooooooo____oooooo_______oooooooooooooooooooo___ooo__ooo_______oooooooooooooooooooo__oooo____oo________oooooooooooooooooooooooo_________oooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo_oooo_______oooooooooooooooooo________ooooo___ooooooooooooooooooooooo_________oo_ooo____oooooooooooooooooooooooooo_____oooooooo__ooo_oooooo__________oo___oooo_______ooo__ooo_ooo______oooo__ooo_______oooo___ooo__ooo___ooooo___ooo_____ooo___ooo____oo____ooo____oooooo__ooo____ooooooo____________ooo_____ooooo____ooo
3 weeks (adventure) vacation in New Zealand ???????? for dschinny and me. We were very excited about what awaits us and simply were looking forward to a wonderful time together in this beautiful country ?? We spent 1.5 weeks on the North Island and the rest of the time on the South Island, had an incredible time, visited so many interesting/awesome/breathtaking spots and locations - I am sure that we will never forget this time here at New Zealand our whole life!Today was the last day of our 3 weeks roadtrip through beautiful New Zealand. We spent the whole day with walking and discovering so many beautiful places and spots at Christchurch, especially with the help of Geocaching. That's exactly what I like about GC - you see places and explore landscapes that you wouldn't otherwise have visited as a normal tourist in a foreign city or country. We also could find this cache and could sign its logbook. So we left another smiley ?? at our GC-map!Thanks a lot for this cache and many greetings from two German GC-crazy New Zealand vacationers ???? zh9 ??
**Day**Doing a tour in and around Christchurch by bike. Nice and easy going on the flat terrain. Just had the webcam cache as main target and doing a lot of tradies and labs along the way. After a while the idea came to make this my day with the most different cache types found. Unfortunately I could not see an event for today but other than that I found: tradie, multi, mystery, lab, webcam, virtual, letterbox, wherigo and earth. That smashed my previous record of 6 and set the new record to 9, very nice! Thanks to all CO's for a lovely day of caching!**Cache**As mentioned above I needed a multi today but was not planning on making it too long or difficult. This one nicely qualified. I did the number juggling and got a plausible final location. But I could not find the cache there. Annoyed to have to hunt for another one I did one final attempt to get an extra hint from the CO. Luckily I got an answer quickly, all in line with my math and search, but gave it another try. And as often with these things. Once you know exactly where to look, you suddenly spot what you had previously missed. A small nano and camouflaged by colour but I could have well detected it the first time. Anyway, thanks for the help & happy to cross off my multi for the day. Btw, also an important memorial of course. Tftc & fp!
We thought this a very appropriate and subtle memorial which creates a greatspace to sit and reflect. After some quick calculations and a short wander, the cache was soon in hand. Tftc
I found a quote of one line with a translation, a name and date but the checksum didnt add up. Too bad.
#3,977: Rememberful Smiley!I came out to this one, as it is one with many fav points. I'm on a wee mission to get my "found" number up to 4,000 before the new year. Since I generally like "quality" over "quantity", I'm trying to find all the top Chch caches ordered by fav points.Came to this one by bike on Boxing Day with GeoYoungling #3.Not too many folks out walking, and we were able to suss out the coords of the nearby final quickly. All good at the final as well. A fav from me too!SL/TFTC!!
We found this cache in Christchurch at Port #5 of our New Zealand Cruise Tour. Our first multi and physical cache find in the South Island of New Zealand. Some friends of ours had family in Christchurch as the time of the earthquake so we felt quite close the disaster that befell the city at the time. After walking over 26,000 steps around the city today, it was hard for us to recognise any of the places that were affected as we had no prior knowledge as to how it looked before, though I would imagine those who lived here would have a constant reminder on seeing the tings that have changed after rebuilding. Thanks from D & HA B-A
We had visited Quake City then made our way around here. We paid our respects. We then obtained the numbers, did the sums and a quick find at GZ followed. TFTC
Yay!! Thanks 2wombles for the cool multi. I found this on my last visit and now that I'm back in CHCH again I realised that I hadn't written an online log. A very sobering memorial, nicely displayed. Thanks for bringing me some distraction from work!!
A quick 5 days in Christchurch on my way to McMurdo base in Antarctica!I enjoyed seeing the city and grabbing a few caches during my stay!
Guessed it would be this sort of hide after seeing the final location. The log is almost full and requires replacement; TFTC
Found on our wander through Otautahi on a chilly September morning. Multi was done reasonably quickly, so just a quick trot over to find this little one.
I looked and looked for this one last year but couldn't track it down. Managed to find it today in a spot I'm sure I checked last time, perhaps it moves around from time to time. A poignant memorial to all those victims of the earthquakes. TFTC!
Found with kimmy+co and Hayzz on out way to breakfast.

Very moving to see this understated memorial.
We also saw the firefighters one yesterday.
Many people sacrifice their lives.
Very humbling.

Fun and easy multi. Coordinates are slightly off and almost had us swimming. Great find! TFTC
Without gc we would never have found this incredibly moving memorial. Enjoyed watching the river life when signing. Will award a favourite. Tftc
We were visiting our family in Lyttelton when the earthquake struck but vey luckily we had all gone to Golden Bay for a few days. That didn't help their house but at least we were safe. This memorial is a sharp reminder of those poor souls who were not so lucky. A moving reminder of the chances of life and death. Thanks for bringing us here today and for the cache.
Of course, the final caused us to retrace our steps the way we came, but it was well worth it. Thanks for the serious cache. We are from San Francisco and Christchurch’s experience will be ours someday.
Sombering walk down here. A couple of known names on here town is a lot busier than i remember, its been a while.
Up early to beat the work crush, but with a nice stiff breeze to keep the brain cells awake to sort the co-ords out.... nice one to start the day. Cheers
Hello from northern California, USA
[Mrs_Ratman](https://www.geocaching.com/profile/?guid=6387f638-372a-4a60-854f-fec7e34a54dd) and I are taking a 39 day cruise on the Holland America Noordam. We will be visiting six ports in New Zealand, three in Australia, Two in New Caledonia, two in Fiji, one in American Samoa, three in Hawaii, and then we end the cruise in Vancouver BC.
One goal that we have whenever we travel (by car or by cruise ship) is to find at least one cache every place we visit.
Our stop in Wellington got canceled due to weather conditions. As a result, they were able to port here half a day early.
We took a walking tour of the area, and found a couple caches
We gathered the required information, did the calculations, then entered the numbers into the GPSr.
The cache took a minute to find. We put some of our ink on to the log, and then we replaced the cache as we found it.

Day 1on our holiday in New Zealand. On our tour, we absolved also this mulit cache. After we found the variabels, determined the finalloaction, we searched, found the tiny box, and signed the logbook.
