So some new caches got released in Otaki and Waikanae while I was in Palmerston North this morning. There was no way I would get here in time for any empty log books, but I figured I would come and collect them today on the way south. And then I got distracted by my unfound caches in Otaki Beach so didn't do them anyway. After finding Te Rauparaha memorial cache I was heading back to the car but saw this and did a prompt U turn. Oh boy, I love these sorts of hides! The cache could have used more enthusiasm, but easy ones are good too. Love the attachment. Gets an easy favourite!
A morning of caching around the taki and taki Beach area to boost my numbers for the Cosmic Challenge (and to attempt to clear the area between the sea, the river, the province boundary, and SH1).That was quite the scramble, but managed to sign log and replace without dropping any components which was a bonus. Now to try and get down without breaking anything...All good here, and thank you to tmann421 for the placement of your Traditional Cache.Find #6979 at 4 August 2024 10:14am
Replaced the cracked container with double pill bottles and fresh rite-in-the-rain logsheet.Got up the tree and dropped my pen, so logsheet is not marked with name of cache.
Had to scramble up the likely spot before seeing the cache. Retrieved no issues, although the outer container is cracked so the log is quite damp. Did my best to scratch my name in the log!
Trouve ! / Found it ! 5349me cache trouve.Merci tmann421 pour la cache 5349th cache found.Thank you tmann421 for the cache
cruising around getting a few cache in Otaki. Came across a rather good Market Day where I managed to spend a few dollars
Fuzzball Is caching in Kimberley for the weekend again. After arriving at the cannonball run on friday night I quickly began talking with Discussing everyone's plan for the weekend. I made a plan with Haydn_seek Itchyfeet and Spate to find some caches out in Otaki for the saturday. After a good night's rest the 4 of us set out at 10.00 o'clock on the saturday for our caches we wanted. After a quick walk to cache I was elected to do climb the tree to retrieve the cache after a quick jump up to the tree I had the cache in hand tftc for the cache
Visited this again not realising i had actually located it and logged it 7 years ago ! perhaps the tree was a little shorter then or i was a little younger ! I took a photo this time of the others in the party
Out and about with some avid cachers being led by hayden-seek after the Cannonball run today and this cache was on the path we were travelling. I'm thinking it was about in 30 secs that Fuzzball56 had the cache in had. A very quick retrieval if I must say so TFTC tmann421.
Really enjoyed finding this cache and a wander around the cemetery. Little did I know I'd be back again a little later searching for another cache. Tftc tmann421.
Log is in two bits and the bag a little torn, but otherwise all good. Nice hide. TFTC
**19,081**Mr Geckoh's monkey tree-climbing ability came in handy again here, fortunately, he seems to love climbing in jandals (sees it as the expected NZ footwear). Anyway, the cache was located and log signed and then we left the residents in peace. TFTC
Day 2 of caching trip up the line from Wellies nice and easy find. Got to use some climbing skills. Also zigged when I should have zagged like the below post. All good with the log. TFTC
I did the navigating and signing today, while did the climbing. An absolutely stunning winter morning to visit this well cared for cemetary. Thanks for bringing us here. KTG
Nice easy find. In Geohubby's own words he "zinger when he should have zagged" up in the tree but didn't seem too hard a climb. TFTC
Having been without a car (again) all week (maintenance issues this time) I was glad to get my wheels back in time for my regular weekend trip north to Wanganui. On my way up I had been lucky enough to get a first to find on a cache that was up a tree and required a ladder to get to, so as a result I had been driving around all weekend with a ladder in my car. As it happened, the cache I had found on Friday night had a related cache up another tree in Otaki, so on my way home on Sunday I stopped by there to take advantage of the ladder and find that cache too. So then I though, now that I'm in Otaki, I may as well find all the other caches here too. So I did, and this was one of them.
I had no problem finding the cache here, as described, and log was safe and dry.
Thanks to tmann421 for placing and maintaining this cache.
I enjoy each and every cache I find, and it is only with CO's like this placing them out in the world that this wonderful game continues.

I was in this general area not all that long ago - I wonder why I didn't come and find this then. I didn't try and drive into the cemetery - something I always find a bit of a weird thing to do. So I parked out on the road and walked the 300 odd metres to here. At this point I hadn't recalled anything about the cache description let alone the hint. After wondering where my GPS was directing me I eventually arrived at a logical place. Had a look around - nothing. Ok, hint time. What? Did I accidentally turn up at one of those new Levitation caches? Apparently not but an interesting moment of synchronicity that I happened to come and find this just days after they were published. Found a way up without any drama then spotted the cache from the right vantage point. Well hidden! I was surprised to see a YetiNZ sig from today which made me have a quick look around to see if the legendary creature could be spotted disappearing into the trees. Nope, cold trail. An unexpectedly entertaining cache that I was wasn't prepared for - but that wasn't an impediment. TFTC. I guess I should have checked out the new Levitating caches to see what was going to be involved with those if old-fashioned tree climbing is not going to cut it.
Love caches like this which require a bit extra effort to actually get to the cache
Fun wee challenge in a peaceful boneyard. Signed the fresh sheet of notepaper. Thanks tmann421
Found with Zayn2016 while searching the cemetery. He found it being young and agile but couldn’t get the lid off so I had to join him. Log was a bit damp and almost full. Put in a page of my notebook. Took photos of the old logs if needed. Thanks for the cache. Lovely day to be out stretching the limbs
Lest We Forget..... Respect!
Fortunately we don’t forget important skills picked up during our childhood. Skills like climbing trees! Thankfully nothing too major, no supplementary oxygen required and no broken limbs during the process.
Cache quickly located all in good order.

Out biking around Otaki on a lovely sunny Saturday morning with Patandjohn and Pointofinterest. Unfortunately I was first at the tree and the climber. A few scratches but no serious damage.

Found while on a historical places cycle tour of Otaki with gpetone, Point of Interest (PoI) and several friends from the tramping club. A cloudless, slightly chilly and a near still day just ideal to pause and find the caches and visit the places of interest. TFTC
Very dramatic find.. Had a little trouble with actually getting the cache and was a bit scary for my sister who we sent up the tree...
On a Easter holiday Geocaching adventure from Lower Hutt to Palmerston North for a night, picking up some PWGT caches, and as many others as time allows.
Miss 9 (UnicornLex) was designated to use her tree climbing skills here. Alas... Her foot was just the wrong size and she got it stuck. After some tears, and mending of some minor scratches and scrapes, there was a promise of a well-earned ice-cream, and she was in high spirits once more.

The Great Geocaching Tour of NZ Cemeteries rolls on! Had to be weary here. The cemetery was deserted EXCEPT for a couple of council groundsmen, who would have noticed such activity. Had to wait until they'd moved to the far side of the rise, before making a quick dash. All good in cache, tftc!
I knew I was in for a tree climb, no problem with it and was soon handing the log to Isis58. Thanks tmann421

This is a huge, and lovely cemetery with still plenty of room for further generations. In my usual team I am the one that does the retrieval but today my other team member was keen to do the honours. TFTC # 18,053
Nice hide. Searched around base and where I could reach. No luck. Resorted to clue and soon found it. Still secured in place. Log sheet ripping but usable. SL TFTC
Found this one after the Te Rauparaha one. Good grief! This is the 2nd time I’ve been up a tree this year already. If my (adult) kids could see me now! . Many thanks for the fun climb- great tree for this- just not sure how I’m going to get back down!!
In the area today so out grabbing a few caches. Had a fair idea where this would be and there it was. Thanks for the cache.
Decided to spent some time around Otaki picking up some caches. Combined this with the nearby multi and Haruatoi Park. Made a nice walk. No problems getting to the cache. Log all fine. Thanks tmann. Was nice to meet you at the Winter Warmer yesterday.
Staying in Otaki for the weekend and took the geohound for a walk before breakfast. As this one wasn’t too far away I decided to give it a go. Climbed into the tree and looked up but couldn’t spot anything promising initially. The cache was actually lower than I expected! #3926. TFTC.
Times you have to just channel your inner 8 year old and go for it! TFTC number 9332.
Nice spot! Wasn’t to game to climb so the teens jumped at the opportunity - was an easy find for them! TFTC
With Karma Reprint. The church is obviously worth a visit but is usually locked. Didn't realize that Te Rauparaha died here. Tftc
A nice quick find thanks.
Ms_KR and I are on our annual pilgrimage to Auckland for our family Christmas. Today are driving from Palmerston North to Wellington. Please excuse the generic logs, there have been a few finds and they get muddled up sometimes.
Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. Cheers.

In the good company of SiderosNZ we travelled from Palmerston North to Paekakariki today essentially just to get an EarthCache to celebrate International EarthCache day! "Paekakariki Escarpment", GC6V22N, was our goal. The weather couldn't have been better (sunny and calm), for which we were thankful considering much of where we were around Paekakariki would have been quite exposed in stormy weather.
Naturally we also stopped for some other caches around the area. This was our last cache of the day as we made our way home. We'd had to give up here previously as neither of us was dressed for a bit of tree climbing. However, today we had a climber with us, SiderosNZ, who likes to climb and very quickly retrieved the cache for us to sign. TFTC
All was peaceful and pleasant here on this lovely Spring day.

Found with little blue hen who stood like the ambulance at the bottom of the cliff in case this old chap slipped and fell. Fortunately I didn't so business completed and my arboreal skills are still functioning. Tftcsl
Watched the other half scramble to the container and as usual his agility for a geriatric was ok but he'll probably grizzle about aches and stretched muscles tomorrow. Happy to let him sign for me. Favourite added from both of us. T4Tcsl
Always keen for a challenge I made the climb despite being the significantly shorter one. A quick find and a perilous jump down with no injuries. Nice!
Caching with lucypear, who after a bit of energy boost for lunch took one for the team to climb up and make the find! Only one other person here today.
Thanks tmann421 for the cache. It’s #1052 for us. We found your cache on 9 April 2019. This is probably my first real tree climb! Fun!!
#6690. The family had a lunch engagement with a friend up at Raumati. We headed up from a wet Wellington and were pleased to see blue skies and sunshine up here on the Kapiti Coast. After a nice lunch I needed a short afternoon nap induced by the big feed and a cold cider. I decided to head up to Otaki while the rest of the family and our friend went off for afternoon tea at Ruth Pretty's café at Te Horo. My first visit to this cemetery. I guessed the right GZ and headed over there. Read the description and saw that tree climbing was required. There was a fairly easy route up. Noticed a small wooden toy soldier in the tree. Checked it for a cache but its a red herring. Soon located the cache elsewhere. Signed the logbook and replaced the cache as found. Thanks for hiding it here tmann421.
Visited this one with zboy. We made a straightforward find.
All in order with this cache; log signed, then safely re-hidden, just as found.

Quick find in a very accessible place, given the circumstances of this cache. Bit slow off the mark for this year, this is my first find...
Mr CD did the honours here and soon had the cache in hand. Stamped and returned. TFTC
Find #2991. A day in the Otaki area, primarily for the Festival of Pots and Garden Art. Used the afternoon, on the bike, covering 29km to collect 15 caches on the northern side of the Otaki river. Otaki offers far more than just the shops on SH1. The village and beach settlements are charming and full of history, both European and Maori.
An enjoyable find, including the tree climbing. SL TFTC

With things starting to get busy on the farm we thought we'd better knuckle down and make some inroads into the latest souvenir hunt before we run out of time, so a trip out and about in the Horowhenua was decided upon.
The weather forecast had looked reasonable when we checked it last night, but there was a steady drizzle most of the day, which made this one a little more challenging to grab, but Mr Rattll handled the job nicely.
Thanks for setting this up tmann421

I've been trying to complete a particular Spelling Challenge Cache elsewhere for some time now, but surprisingly it's trying to find sufficient caches stating with vowels that has been holding me back. I thought I finally had the last of what I needed yesterday, but I was still one short so decided to take advantage of having my Mini-me with me this weekend to see if I could track down the elusive last letter.
The weather had been a bit overcast all day, but with no rain forecast this afternoon it was perfect for a stroll around parts of Otaki I had never previously visited. There were more people around the cemetery than I had expected but luckily GZ was away from most of them so it was a matter of picking the right moment to search the suspected spot.
All is well with the container and the logsheet, so it was a quick sign as "T & T" for ThatWeirdGuy04 and I, and then everything was replaced exactly as found. Thanks for the placement and for bringing me to this area which I hadn't been to before.

Harder getting back to ground level than getting up.
Thanks for this cache, good excuse for a long overdue visit to see family in the Otaki Cemetery

I have never really been that keen on the activity required to get to this cache but strangely I have done considerably more as an older adult than I ever did as a child, despite my level of agility plummeting. It was a little bit tricky for me to get into a position to see and reach the cache but then, due to the way it was secured, I had to manoeuvre myself a wee bit closer to continue and complete my mission.
#567. My brother lives across Mill Road from GZ, so it’s time I nabbed it. Was prepared for a little climb - glad it wasn’t higher than it was. Bit tricky accessing the cache with one hand, but all good. Tftc.
On a geo-trip from the USA, stopped here for a few caches on our way to the oldest in New Zealand. Could not see this one from the ground, but lostcheq found it once she changed her elevation. Thanks for the cache! Hello from Duluth, Minnesota!
Caching with lostcheq and Mocrin on an adventure halfway around the world. One of us rose to the occasion to find this cache after we all searched for awhile. TFTC
TFTC Visiting from Northern, Wisconsin, USA, with Mocrin and Aix sponsa for this find. Love the cemetery caches. Very interesting to us to see the differences in the gravesites and markers. Nice hide. Favorite
After far longer shopping than we had intended, the family agreed to 1 geocache find before reaching home. Miss 3Prettys was up for a tree climb, so we headed out to the cemetery for this geocache. Once she was in the tree we adults backed up to try to spot the cache location, when suddenly she called down, "Oh, here it is!". The hint height wasn't as high as we'd anticipated, so she happily took travel bug photos while we signed the log.
Thank you for bringing us here, we enjoyed wandering the cemetery as part of our cache hunt.

Visiting here from Upper Hutt. I climbed up the obvious entry up the tree. Spotted the container and opened it only to drop the log on the ground. In the mean time I rested my pen on the same ledge as the cache and climbed down to retrieve the logbook and climbed back up to find that my pen had also fall. Too bad I'm not climbing up again so have included a pic of the log that is attached tftc
normally I send hubby or kaleb to get these but as I was caching by myself I got to do the honors, didnt take long to spot at all and soon had it signed and ready for the next person. lovely weather and very quite at gz. thanks for the placement
This was a fun find on my way thru Sunny Otaki.

Although neither of us are good climbers RosalieNZ spotted the cache and used her stretching abilities to retrieve the cache for signing and return it to its hiding place. We did some problem solving with this cache so a favourite point given. TFTC

Fantastic cache. It took a bit of thinking about how to reach the cache as neither of us are great climbers but we got their in the end. This gets a favourite point from me. Thanks for the find.

No problems here this morning. My timing was good the gardener arrived as I was leaving. TFTC
A nice find while in Otaki this afternoon. A quick clamber up and I soon spotted what I was after. Thanks heaps for the cache.
Up the coast today in order to get my July numbers up. Arrived and was about to take a later look due to a car parked up right next to the GZ but was rewarded for waiting a minute when the muggle drove away. Then it was all quiet and muggle free. A quick find after a small climb. All in order. TFTC

#9325. A nice day to visit Otaki today. It was clear with gentle breeze. The cemetery was all quiet when we visited. Once in position, it was a quick find. The cache was in excellent condition, all nice and dry inside. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log.

I thought i would check this one out on my way home but had my reservations as to whether i would manage it. I took a look and thought Hmmm if i could just get the first stage i would prob be ok so i went back to my car took out my Vertically challenged tool and re approached the GZ. Ah yes it would be enough to get me where i would need to be. so dressed in tidy school clothes i was able to locate this securely placed cache, sign the log return it to it's place and gingerly get down.. phew i made it!! thanks alot for this cache and a smiley face on this one. I took nothing and left nothing.
10.20 am. A bit of a stretch but I made it. Bit hard to use stealth in this situation but no one saw me.
Thank you. David.
Thank you. David.
Having made two FTF's in quick succession, just HAD to head off and bag a few other local caches I'd neglected. Quick find, signed and returned. Incidentally, I came into this world just a few hundred metres from here, in the old Otaki Village hospital. It is long gone, I'm not...
I needed to make a trip to Otaki today so decided to spend a bit more time and score some unfound caches. When I arrived here I had the place to myself so was able to hop up into the tree without problems and I quickly spotted the cache. Signed log, TFTC
