If youre wondering why the track is closed, apparently theres an unsafe bridge. But the cache is way before that, so its safe until there. Theres a very easy river crossing if you go a little up towards the small reservoir and then make your way across the roots. Or you use the rocks at the other crossings anyway, it was getting dark, so we decided against the long path. Will have to come back here at some later time. TFTC
Had trouble working out the approach but previous logs helped. Got there with a bit of luck. TFTC
Easy find from the hint, thanks. Not sure why the track is closed didn't venture too far but track to cache easy once you jump over the stream
Thank you, came from below and had to cross the creek and go past the track closed sign, but still doable and fun.
#205. Took the closed track path. Loved the terrain challenge and successful find. TFTC.
It's day twenty-three of this months Wheel of Challenges challenge, the streak, and today I needed to find a cache. So I found this one.
One of the few areas in the Wellington region that I still have some reasonably accessible caches left in, I had been saving this one up for just such an occasion. As we draw near the end of this months challenge it is now time. A short walk to this one. My phone and GPSr differed by about 15m, however the hint guided me to the cache. Unusually, the phone was closer that the Garmin. The cache was found safe and well.
---
Thanks to trancer96 for placing and maintaining this cache. I enjoy each and every cache I find, and it is only with CO's like this creating them and placing them out in the world that this wonderful game continues.

Wickard hide! Great cache! Our boys loved crossing the stream and slightly bushwhacking to get there!
Final cache of the day. I looked for this one some time ago, while attempting the night cache, but soon decided it was futile in the dark. Today, approaching from Reservoir 1, an easy find. All good, tftc!
Awesome stuff. Good find. We hid our bikes and crossed the stream and went the easy way.
Went to try and find this cache. Ended up at the old dam. Some great old infrastructure! Went back to main path and continued along until 50 metres away from cache. Decide to cross stream and bush bash towards GZ
Found a lighter in plastic bag nestled away in tree, which initially though was cache. Lighter was still working even though in wettest condition.
Found cache on other side of track. Nicely hidden. Logged cache and headed back along track Found 'track closed'. Had to cross stream again. Thanks for the adventure!

Replaced log.
Hmmm. There is a new "Track closed" sign just beyond the stream crossing. Went up there anyway to see why, stopped at my two caches along the way and went to other end of the track. There is NO discernible reason why the track is closed. No slips, no damaged bridge, the track is as good as it ever was. Ironically the most treacherous bit is the stream crossing just BEFORE the sign. So I won't archive this cache based on that alone. If you see a REAL reason to archive it (or even a reason why the track is "closed") then I will reconsider. Otherwise I suggest cautiously ignoring the sign.

Despite the lack of a request for maintenance it sounds like it's time this cache was serviced with a water resistant log. Since I can't mark as needing maintenance myself I will disable it to remind me that it needs to be done. This doesn't mean you can't log the cache in the mean time as it is apparently still there but you will need to photograph the log until such time as it returned to signable condition.
I love this area and have traveled these tracks a lot, long before I knew about geocaching so it amazes me that I've probably walked past so many of these things unaware. Nice easy find when you are looking.
Cool spot behind stones. Cool.cannister, will look at obtaining more like these. left some coins.
Evening bush walk with Miss 9. Didn't intend to find a cache...but we thought...hang on a min that looks like a good spot...we found it photo evidence as we didn't have a writing instrument. TFTC
A nice quick find thanks.
Time for another trip to the North Island for Ms_KR and me. Yus back on the road again, and crusing around Tawa. Porirua and Titahi Bay. A showery morning but the rest of the day has been great.
Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. Cheers.

Finding myself on the wrong track (making a habit of that today) I beelined to the coordinates and quickly found the cache. TFTC
Out on a club walk and found with livingk. A July day with 18C, some sun and no wind, its a delight to walk these tracks. TFTC
Found with Pat&John during a day trip with our tramping club. Cache in good order. TFTC
With the days drawing towards their shortest, it can be harder to get out and about for a good bout of caching. I knew I needed to get one really solid day in during May, so put the call out to see if anyone else would be interested in a raid on Tawa.
A few parties showed interest, but in the end it was just The Seagnoid and I that parked up at Brasenose Place and then spent over 9 hours tramping a basic 'Figure of 8' along the bushwalks that border Broken Hill Road and on to the slopes of Colonial Knob Scenic Reserve, getting over 40 caches each with just a couple of DNF's along the way.
A quick find here today, spotted by tS, There were no issues encountered with container or log, which was signed before the whole lot was replaced as found and we were back on our way again.
Thank you for setting up and maintaining this cache

At first I thought this was another badly named cace, as we are walking FROM the reservoir. But it turns out there are two reservoirs here, and we are indeed walking to the other one. Maybe we should just be walking this loop widdershins!
After trolling Facebook looking for a place to live, I saw that TwigNZ was looking to a group to do the Tawa "figure 8". I had a spare day, so why not. After 9 hours we found over 40 caches on the slopes beside and up to Colonial Knob. I completed today's objectives (find a cache for my streak find 3 caches to get my finds to 10 finds per date, a puzzle and an "other" for my puzzle and other dot days) and also found some archived caches, a cache released today (third to find), a geocacher, hardly any people and three trees (also some more trees...).

Thanks trancer96 for placing this cache
It was another peaceful spot and accurate coords so an enjoyable walk for me today.
Lots of tui were singing and chatting above your caches making them feel extra special

This is my first time walking these trails. Curious that the number 1 reservoir is empty but not the number 2. Quick find with the hint. Thanks for bringing me here!
Quick find this morning, when I finally got to GZ. Made it harder than it needed to be by taking the long route to get there, but oh well, they do recommend 30 min of exercise a day
Thanks for the cache.
Thanks for the cache.
Gps sent me up track 2. After about 40min, the gps updating and reading everything throughly, We FOUND it!!! Yay. Unfortunately we lost our pencil on the way. TGTC
Stopped by for a check-up. No maintenance required or performed. Log photographed for prosperity.
Familiar with this track now and how to access it. I’m not sure how I overlooked this one the last time we were here but the cache was quickly uncovered and is in good condition. TFTC
At last, an actual find for today! Straightforward find aside from bouncing GPS fixes. Log was damp so I put in a desiccation sachet. TFTC!
Out and about with MightyMicra, this one was a quick find exactly as described. TFTC.
Logging caches from a while ago. Did this with the entire extended family on a walk around Colonial Knob. Quick and easy find though wasn't where we expected it to be. Did with MycroMan and Ezratar. Thanks for the cache.
No trouble across the stepping stones. I think this is a better route to Colonial Knob than the long gravel road.
TFTC The bridge is definitely washed away, but being adventurous we weren’t afraid of a bit of water. Easy find & hint relevant. Spider-Man will serve to protect this cache .!
A nice sunny day but very muddy after the rain. Out to find some caches. What a clever hiding place. Tftc
Nice quick find with woolwood9 today.
Trying to get a few finds before the rain comes through.
Very detailed hint, co-ords seem very good to us.
Enjoyed coming back for another nice walk in the great bush - thanks trancer96
*Thanks for putting this good cache out. SL*

I was never really happy with the location of this so I found a slightly better place just across the track a few metres away. Coords need long averaging times here and I didn't do that on this visit so the coords may be a bit dodgy for now. The updated hint will make it easy regardless.

I found this cache as the only one I did (I'll save more so I have excuses to climb this mountain again in the future!), starting from Spicer and walking up to Colonial Knob, and back the same way. Such a good walk, but I've since heard that this was the easy way up and I need to take the steps... maybe.
A rock door on a hole in a tree facing the track? It all looks a bit too obvious to me but certainly was quick to find thanks TFTC
A nice evening stroll to collect a couple of caches. A quick find and cache/log in good shape. We enjoyed this walkway.
TFTC and for bringing us to this lovely area.

I came up to Spicer Park this evening to finally get the waypoint for the Spicer puzzle and also to attempt the Yellow Eyes in the Dark nightcache. However it was a bit light for finding the tacks so I decided to head up this way to find one or two traditionals. Made my way across the stream and continued up the track. Got to the area of GZ and started looking around. Spotted the spot fairly quickly . Retrieved the cache and signed the log. Getting a bit too dark to continue so I headed back down, whereupon I picked up the Yellow Eyes trail...TFTC

I took another 10 minute coordinate average while I was here which yielded a position 10m from the posted coords. Since the original coords were also averaged I decided to average the two sets. I don't think the difficultly of getting an accurate position here has been preventing anyone from finding the cache but the coords should nevertheless be as accurate as possible.

I just walked past this cache like 2 hours ago but never thought to check up on it! I wonder what gives with the wet log. If the O-ring is stuffed I'll have to replace it but if it's just because the cache was not sealed properly I'll just replace the log. Should be able to fix this before the weekend's out.
Replaced log. There didn't seem to be any issue with the cache - its O-ring is in decent shape and it seals well. I can only assume someone didn't screw the lid on properly. With these screw-top O-ring-sealing containers it is important to screw the lid on tight enough to compress the O-ring a bit.
Good to go again. Remember to screw on the top properly so the O-ring actually gets compressed and forms a seal.
Not knowing about this cache, without GPS I thought this tree looked suspicious and for sure there was a tree, a stone, and a cache
Log sheet is too wet to sign so had to take photo log

Despite the dodgy GPS reception a quick find for us in the most obvious place without leaving the track. I bit of water in the cache but the bag has kept out the water.
The final cache find of a shortish but enjoyable walk. This one didn't cause me any consternation and I was soon on my way back to the car park. My plan to walk off a minor injury suffered yesterday seemed to work well as I was definitely moving along more freely than I was when I set out. So it turned out to be a great outing for several reasons.
First of four caches found in these parts on our Sunday afternoon walk. The coords were all over the place but, thanks to the hint, we didn’t take too long to find this one. #1964. TFTC.
Successful morning completing a loop over Colonial Knob nabbing a few caches along the way
Found with the assistance of my phone flashlight! TFTC

Stopped at the park after a visit to the recycling centre. A quick find in the obvious place. TFTC!
like others we went to the wrong tree as the gps had us all over the show but dad manage to make the find, how we missed it I dont know, but thanks for bringing us here we loved the walk
After a few cross country scrambles, focused upon the hint and bingo. Could have taken an easier way to get there though!!!
In Wgtn catching up on family and friends. Sunday to myself so its a walk around Colonial Knob to keep me busy.
Oh man did I get the run around for this one. Nigel navigator takes me over there - straight past it - Dah. I go down to the creek and cross over and follow the creek up the valley a little. Now its over there so its across the creek and creek bed and up the bank - back to the track. Bummer. So a hunting we will go to finally snag this one. Cheers. Thats it for today as its getting late. Loved it so will be back another day.
