Now that was an adventure Baristayan and I identified this bad boy on the way down to Geelong from Canberra, and vowed to come back for it upon our return. That led to a night in Wangaratta and a stack of quality caches, but I digress. We found the pole. I scooted up (so far so good) then spent about 20 fruitless minutes poking in and around metal beams and silky spider webs. And just as I was about to give it away, the CO came through with a helpful push in the right direction. And what a push it was! T3.5 you say?! All that gravitational potential energy I was harbouring was ratcheted up by a multiple of 10 and off I went, creeping ever closer to ground zero. And even then it wasnt enough! With another hint, I spotted something on the other side of some seriously webby spider habitat. By this stage I was one with the arachnids and they let my hand through to finally land the prize.Taking every ounce of care not to drop the cache (or myself) in the water, I signed the little chap and replaced as found. Then did everything in reverse, landing on terra firma in one piece. Absolutely brilliant hide, one of the best Ive seen. And so glad I was able to nab this in its original, evil, sadistic, masochistic spot. Thanks!
Visited it during 28-days geotrip to Australia, N.Caledonia, Vanuatu, Fiji, Am.Samoa, Fr.Polynesia with Marci, Ch. Sometimes we logged as "MT" or "Jonea" or "MTCh". Thanks for showing nice caches and places. MT-Jonea from Brno city in Czechia EU.
One of us scaled the pole (pretty good for 59!) Searched for 30 mins and couldn't locate.
We found out where it was, by then we were pretty low on time and my harness was back in the car…
We tried but we failed BUT, we will be back to try again! Carla, Lachie, Dannii, Tara, Bri, Mad & Kaylee
Climbed my ladder and resorted to a PAF after a short unsuccessful search.
I decided that the cache was out of my comfort zone at that particular point in time.
Looking forward to returning with greater confidence to find this one!

We planned to get down to Rutherglen to try and collect all the caches in the area before the mega so we could relax a little more as Mega’s always seem to be a little hectic. With the Canberra day long weekend on the horizon a plan was hatched, and accommodation was found. Our attack group ended up consisting of Rapidlywild, DARKSIDEDAN, Sui_001and only half of the FurfacesLL team as the other member is broken, seems we are taking turns. We ended up collecting all the trails we had intended to do and many others in varying shapes and sizes and types.
After doing all the EASTER 2023 wherigos with The Mob we went our separate ways again. Our AB+G's group consisting of Rapidlywild, DSD and Sui_001 decided to go and check out the CSI series. Thankfully we had a 4WD as a few areas were a little dicey.
But we swung by this one on our way to CSI as had missed it during the mega. Our onboard monkey Sui_001 i did the honours for us here. Tricky hide but found safe and sound
Thanks for the hide The PE Geek and thanks to Sui for the climb and crawl.

Plans were put in place for a Rutherglen attack over the Canberra day long weekend with the FurfacesLL, DSD and Sui. We spent 4 days away from home and collected a number of caches of various varieties.
After finishing off the EASTER2023 wherigos this morning with "The Mob", we split up and went our own ways. We (FurfacesLL, DSD, Sui_001 and myself) decided we would head south and have a crack at the recently released CSI series. Glad we had the 4WD as there were a few places that the 2WD couldn't get to. It was an interesting drive and we crossed paths with another team who were finding the CSI caches also. We had incoming storms towards the end of the series and we did get a little wet. Logs again signed as AB+G/AB&G to save room on the logs.
This is a cache that FFLL and I wanted to get done as we missed out during the last mega here. We were fortunate to have a monkey with us who made it look easy. At first, the cache couldn't be located as Sui was looking for the same cache that was found during the mega, however once the focus was changed to looking for a micro, it was soon found. Log signed and cache replaced as found.
Thanks for the heart raising hide The PE Geek and thanks to our onboard monkey Sui_001

Due to unforeseen circumstances Mr Smokey Bear will no longer be a part of Team Smokey Bear and will continue his adventures as "SmokeyBearOG".
So I'm relogging all previous finds under my new account.
Unfortunately this log will not show the original logging date.

Climbed up easily enough, but couldn't find anything once up there. Probably not the reason most people DNF this one
I was nominated to go up on shoulders of our tallest, with support from two others, but alas I couldn’t get my leg to reach the ledge. Nifty idea for a placement.
Had som whelp from past finder and the CO sent me a very kind message. I had the right tool but couldn’t quite finish what was required.
Thanks for hiding this for our enjoyment. I still had fun.

Caching in this area with Crank1 during the Mega event. Jamin Appleford, thank you so much for placing it and highlighting this area. It wasn’t hard as we thought. Happy to retrieve the cache.
Beautiful morning to be out caching on the last day of the Mega.
Just a quick one here - not! (again)
Thought I‘d just have a look and see what all the fuss was about. Then thought I might as well give it a try. Then thought, I should sign the logbook seeing I‘m up here.
Spotted some interesting pole decorations at the bottom and the top. Don’t think I disturbed the nearby camper.

Themd had a ladder, and we went in and found it with him.

In the dark of the night last-night, a shady character who’s name rhymes with Musty Garment, whispered sweet nothings about a secret mission in the morning. We were SOLD. When we arrived, it was apparent that the mission wasn’t so secret as there was quite a crowd….including the under-bridge dwellers, who were peeking out of their tent with great interest. Ronice was roped up and willing to take one for the team, however a few of us wanted to make it official and went up to sign our own names as well. Glad to have the photo to prove that I didn’t wimp out, although I stayed on the ladder.

This was an attractive challenge, particularly trying freehand. Originally there were some kids making the most of the good weather with sunbathing.
Coming back later in the afternoon the coast was clear and with a test of the upper arm muscles we had the container. Even more fun coming down! Thanks for the challenge.

Today we found The Fireman Pole on our travels. OSHFAM and I ventured here yesterday to survey the requirements, while we were here a young man who had been swimming in the river offered to “get the paper thing” for us and monkey climbed up the pole and a few seconds. We politely declined but had a lovely chat with him and his mates. We discovered he climbs all the pylons along the river regularly…oh to be young and fit again! Today we returned with a TOTT to make the signing of the log a bit easier. As is the way with Megas we met a few other cachers as we made our way to GZ who showed interest in our TOTT and the plans we had so we had a few new friends suddenly. It didn’t take long to set ourselves up and send up a climber, log signed and then I climbed up to return it.
Thanks Jamin Appleford for being part of our geocaching fun.

At the Farewell event we talking with friends and I suggested to Wazza9 that he would probably like this cache, he found out he had the right length TOTT for the job, off we went with our friends. He soon had CIH, stamped log and replaced. Thanks to Jamin Appleford.
Holy heck. They made me go up. Well I did carry the ladder!!
I looked here and there while hanging on. Finally found the sucker. I guess it should have been easier but I was more concerned with not falling to my death and I only had one more pair of clean jocks in the car. [8)]
A mega jaunt with endeavour3 saw us caching this cache and writing in the log, then we moved on. A lovely place to explore. Today was an amazing day - what with the rare GPS Maze I scored 14 cache types in a single day!
Thanks to Jamin Appleford and **clear skies** from TeamAstro. [^] Cache the planet! [^]

Arriving at GZ, we noticed a person and their tent not too far away.
Deciding on making this a quick visit we went and said hello to the stranger, and asked them exactly where people had been placing their TOTT.
Of course, he had been a very curious spectator and gave us exact information.
We suggested he buy a ladder, and rent it out for five dollars for every Geocacher who might come by. I think he would have done a roaring trade this weekend.
Chamad did the honours for this one. Log signed with Karicka also.
Thanks The PE Geek

One of only two caches we'd been to on a previous and only visit to Wangaratta. (we found the other) It was a busy afternoon with people all over the park. We sussed out the cache... it was easy to roughly work out where it was... more or less in a direct line from where kids were swimming. We had a TOTT but stealth combined with a tough retrieval decided we walked away without attempting.
But come the Wang Mega and rumour had it the cache was generously giving a special deal for the weekend. We didn't have a TOTT but DiMorgan did. Found with Grub Fred and DiMorgan. Fantastic to be able to get our name in the cache but then the unbelievable, we almost forgot to log it! TFTC Jamin Appleford.. most appreciative of the mega favour.

Day three of the Wangaratta MEGA event and it has been an awesome time. I have really enjoyed my time here; the caches, the countryside, the events, the people, the history, it is more than I expected, thank you. Today is my last day here but there is still a lot of caching to be done before I leave.
This morning I was out caching with Karicka and Domsky. We first headed off early to walk out to Ned Kellys Hideout. We then scouted the area for further caches. This was a fun cache to do and with the help of the people camped under the bridge we soon were on point. A quick scurry up the pole and we had the cache in hand. This one was of particular interest as it fills a missing grid for me.
Thanks for placing it here and with the log signed and cache replaced as found we were onto the next one. Another favourite point here.

Mega Weekend at Wangaratta we had a great time finding your cache Jamin Appleford, thank you so much for placing it.
After cleaning out around the mega site this was one on the must do list.
I'd heard whispers around town so I thought I needed to put a smiley on it!
On arriving at the car park I saw a group of cachers.
Asked if they wished to join but they had just completed.
Then I saw another family of cachers.
The veevers12, after a quick chat I found they were up for the challenge.
So me with the TOTT and the clan headed down to GZ.
Before long we all had the log signed.
What a bonus!
Fav for the fun.

I went out with Earthbound Chief yesterday to have a look at this one and assess whether or not I could climb up. Pfffftttt - that would be a big fat NO! A lovely young man swimming in the water with his friends then came across to us and asked if we were looking for "that thing up there" to which we said "yes we are". He climbed up there quick as a flash, clearly he had the ability and fitness to do so and so elecuantly too. Offered to thrown down the logbook down to us but we declined his offer. D5 caches and their CO's deserve respect. We told the young man we would return with out TOTT and climb up ourselves.
I love the Important Notice: "Please use common sense and assess your own ability before tackling this cache. A certain degree of fitness is required."
A. I used my common sense and assessed my ability to climb the pole as "zero chance"
B. I do not possess the fitness required here
C. We are going to need a TOTT
So today Earthbound Chief and I returned along with CeeJayDenno and Prezdough. It took a lot of courage on my part as I'm not good with heights but it did make it easier with my support team down below.
Thank you for the challenging cache here The PE Geek (Jamin Appleford)

Out and about caching around Wangaratta today. Arrived at GZ and after a upward projection and a short search cache was found and log signed. TFTC
The stories around this pole have notoriously given it quite a reputation that included hanging perilously out over water so it’s one I’ve always avoided as a solo project. Today I gathered a few folk early and went loaded with rope and climbing gear in the name of safety to find the treasure. Crustyvarmint brought the TOTT, I sorted a few slings and up I went - poked my head over for the initial scan of the spans only to have a very surprising BINGO moment. Cache safe and dry and a lot of fun had. After the sign and retreat had a go at the pole in ‘trad style’ for fun - a hot day and sweaty hands would be a different challenge. CO made a good call that kept everyone ‘safe’. TFTC and entertainment!
Thanks so much to CrustyVarmint, Ronnice88 and DeJeVu for inviting They Rustys and Jimbo_80 and I along to this group assault. I'm in awe of Ronnice88's fitness and fabulously open approach to life! After Ronnice's ascent I realised that I too was capable of climbing the telescopic ladder to stamp my own name in the log book. Was worried that my Birkenstock's would slip so I did it in bare feet!
Find No: 8330. Visiting from Newcastle, attending the Wangaratta MEGA, thanks for the cache Jamin Appleford!!
In Wangaratta for the final day of the mega we arrived at a pre organised time with friends to do this cache. There was an abundance of safety equipment and lots of participants, and curious onlookers, who took turns climbing in various methods to sign the log. This was a fun early morning caching get together.
Our thanks for your cache and for contributing to a great weekend.

Finally... a Mega we can attend! So Spiffy- and I headed off to Wangaratta. A plethora of caches to choose from so we targeted a few, but really just happy to get out and about.
This was one we noted but not sure if we had it in us. However with the traffic we arrived at GZ to find Team Astro and others. So no need to lug our ladder and was able to use theirs for the cache. Great location.
Thanks to The PE Geek for the placement and fun.

Well, the Mega time has come and we aren't locked down so today was the day to get 14 different types of cache. Today was our final day to find a couple of local caches and then start heading home with a fair few stops along the way.
We arrived here and someone was already setting up so we just helped them instead of bringing another TOTT over.

Found with FUF009, 6hinemoa2 aykayem and sorceysal while attending The Wangaratta Event.
Sometimes you just happen upon a scene that is to your advantage.
Came looking for a shady place to plop down under a tree and ended up running around with a ladder and some willing bodies.
Got the worse mozzie bites of my life here. On my ears and through my shirt on my shoulder. How attractive.

Found during a weekend to attend the Mega. Thankfully the ladder could reach the concrete platform and Andrea made the find. Thanks PE Geek
Found while attending the Mega on the quest to finding as many different styles of caches as we could. It was great to be invited by Ronnice88 to retrieve this hide.
Wasn't too sure about this one so asked a couple who had just found it. They assured me that with a ladder all would be good. I am not one for climbing a fireman's pole.
As sorceysal and I were contemplating just where to set it up, Andrea arrived and she was happy to climb while we held it. Sometimes you can be lucky. Then while about to make the asscent FUF00 9 and Sharkiefan arrived. They helped keep the ladder secure .
All was good here and FUF009 helped me pack up the ladder and we all headed off very pleased with ourselves.

We brought our own ladder here AKA Hoojar.
TFTC!
Headed south with my caching mates, steeba, Hoojar and Wilbert to attend the on, off, on again COVID restricted Wangaratta Mega event...... credit to the organisers for persisting.
With us having limited time in the area, we tried to pack as much as we could into each day. From Glenrowan, to Beechworth, to Mrytleford, to Warby Ovens NP, to the streets of Wangaratta, we seemed to be on the go all the time. While the weather was too hot for caching at times we often found relief by cooling off in the river.
We found so many different types of caches, its a credit to all the CO's for providing the caches for everyone to find, whether they were new or old placements, we had a great time in Wang.
It was mega Saturday and this cache was part of my 12 types in a day. It pays to have a jungle Jim in your caching team.

Today, after spending the morning on the Registration desk at the Mega base, we headed out to pick up some caches around town. We were lucky enough to have our own monkey TOTT in the form of Mr Tritonz get our name in the log here. He scored an icecream from the nearby van for his efforts. TFTC The PE Geek.

The lure of a couple of extra icons (Maze and Locationless) meant that I was more keen than normal to attend a Mega Event. Covid issues asside, a plan was hatched, rehatched, changed and finalised to attend for a few days in Victoria with Steeba, Wilbert67 and The Rats. Another trip away like countless others that we have done before, and yet totally different, thanks to Covid.
The caches were excellent. The company, as always, fantastic. We find more than our fair share of Adventure Labs, as well as complting a few series. I think we walked away with 300 finds, not a bad haul. The laughs were endless, but that is to be expected on trips away like this.
Thanks so much to all of the cache hiders, and especially to the event organisers. I cannot imagine the hoops that you had to keep jumping through to get this off the ground. A special thank you for bringing the Maze Down Under!
Please forgive the boiler-plate log, I assure you it is no reflection on the caching experience of our few days away. Again thank you to all cache owners for their hides.
Cheers

Mr W thought he could climb this so up he went… but not quite high enough. Then he thought if he had a different pair of shoes on he’d do better and be able to get higher. So back to the car we walked and while there, who should come along… more geocachers with a tott. ?? So we tagged along. How nice. And we now have our name in the logbook. ??
An exciting start to the day. Glad we had the right people and tool. Thanks and fav point
Big day today! All things mega and lots of different icons to log. Spend most of the day in and around Wangaratta and had lots of fun!

First cache for the day, the Mega and the year. So why not start with a challenging one. Joined a big group for this one. TFTC.
TFTC. After the welcome event we teamed up with a group to find this one. Right TOTT and right people for a quick find. Great teamwork.
Out caching with Beaker and Bucketeer while visiting for the Wangaratta Mega.

As a retired firey, it just seemed logical that we had to capture this one. As there was interest at the early morning event (and I had the correct length TOTT) it just seemed logical for a small group of us to tackle this. On the hunting trail again with SeasonedBird, Liz & Bruce. Another great day for caching. ?? TFTC Jamin Appleford

I was drafted to help achieve this one. Good to see another smiley in the CBD. Thanks for the great company DonutHoles, TheKraken and Alexikatty.
Fireman Sam is the hero next door!!! Love the hide Ingot Memorychip to climb up while I yelled encouraging words. TFTC

After finishing at the Mega, we grabbed some cool drinks and headed back to Apex Park. This time not to do Parkrun, but grab a few geocaches. Parked here with a few other obvious Geo Vehicles. Then had a chat when a bunch of Geocachers come back to the undercover seats.
Chatting with the geocachers, it sounds like they had all just done this one. They had a TOTT, but no-one really wanted to go up. As such, wasn't really sure what to expect when we arrived. But it turned into a nice climb up the fireman pole with lots of locals swimming in the water laughing.

What an awesome cache this was. I returned to this park to have my lunch. After finishing I approached a group, not knowing if they were cachers or not. I asked if anyone had a tool. The Coffees, piped up, yep but didn't want to do the retrieval. With BackPAQer, Captain Caffeine and a lot of local teenagers looking on.... they already knew about the cache....... I made the climb and retrieved the cache. With encouragement for the kids, who were swinging off rope swing, a few also showed us there bridge jumping abilities. A great cache in good company, this was a lot of fun. Thanks for placing this challenge.
Cache 8492 on 15 Jan 2022.
Headed to Wangaratta with TikvaNZ, Fox in Jox and ZQX to attend the Mega, Maze and generally pick up a stack of caches around the area. Looking forward to fun weekend caching and catching up with buddies! About time my new car got some Kms on the odometer!
Today: caching in and around Wangaratta, getting a few different cache types in a day, interesting DT combinations and a bit of socialising! Started with a few easy ones in town, then an 8km hike in Warby-Ovens National Park and then back for events around the Showgrounds and a few more caches for personal and published challenges.
This cache: this was on my list for a long time , and happy that Fox was able to assist with the retrieval!
Thanks Jamin Appleford for the cache and the fun!

Incredible!!!
Down in Victoria for the long awaited (and necessarily postponed) Wangaratta MEGA, and a little holiday chasing the usual (oldies, counties and windmills). Just for something different we are adding ALs to the hit list and the graves of the regionally buried dead premiers. Lol the things we will do for a cache! Joined up today with some extras from the canberra crew and a few Queenslanders! Always great when we can cache together. Thanks for the cache.
