Plans hatched with Green-Martian earlier in the week for a hike around Booroomba Rocks, a number of recent/semi recent hides having popped up. With the weather holding up nicely met up at GMs place for the continued drive Southwards. The road to the car park was a little degraded from what I remember but the beast made it through without issue.Headed up the track, also a little tougher than I remember, first hike of the warmer season I reminded myself. Took in the views from the cliffs edge then followed the trail along the ridge line. Eventually the footprint disappeared and we spent the next 40 minutes bush bashing through to our final destination. The return journey seemed a little easier, not sure what was going on, but no complaints there. Eventually made back to the car park, deciding on a short track detour. All up a solid 5 hour adventure.Details sent to CO, approval to log find received. As always, thanks GM for the company, a great day out. TNLNSL TFTC

A group of eager cachers decided to brave the chilly morning and venture up Booroomba Rocks. All caches we found were signed as Ice Breakers due to the thin layers of ice covering all the puddles and how entertaining they are to drop and smash on the nearby rocks. The weather warmed up throughout the day and made for a beautiful day in the sun.I've come to enjoy these group ventures as you always get to know people better and create great friendships. This was a fantastic spot to admire the view and enjoy the sunshine. I was knackered at this point so it was a good spot for a snack and some refreshments. Thank you DSD for the EC

Found with team ICEBREAKERS on our booromba rocks expedition. Pantspeople sent answers on behalf of the gang. Great views from such a nice viewpoint, we could make out little people on the other peak. A great EC in a great place. TFTEC!

Still out and about wandering with the ICEBREAKERS!After Jamming the Line nearby, we soon found ourselves at a familiar peak with fantastic views.Pantspeople was luckily paying attention to the description and took care of the formalities while the other were admiring the views or searching (unsuccessfully) for a cache nearby!Great spot for an earthcache that's for sure! Thanks for placing this cache DARKSIDEDAN!

Visited with icebreakers, to reflect the cool morning, consisting of pantspeople, Loci612, Googlehihihi + his Dad, C10A and her friend, Scaphoid, DeadThief, Turtle284 and EthisEthat. A nice, straightforward earthcache to contemplate and learn about while admiring the view atop Booroomba Rocks. Very impressive and monumentous granite. It's been a long time of wanting to do the Booroomba rocks walk, and make it to the 2001 at the top. Today was the day, and nicer weather you couldn't have asked for. It was a pleasant enough walk up in the shadows of the mornings cloud, which lifted for a beautiful sunny day.The wildflowers were lovely and carpeted the area, and it's a beautiful area to visit. The fire damage still very evident but I'm very pleased to have finally got here to enjoy it.While here, GreyHams and I stopped for a few other caches. It's good to find these and the views were amazing once up the top. It's such a stunning location, thanks for your cache!Wow, what stunning views!

28-Oct-23
On a day trip to finally, at last, claim the only remaining 2001 cache in the ACT.It looked a bit rainy at my place but Aquilus1 & I decided to press on and try our luck. In the end the weather was really beautiful.A lot of steps, a lot of elevation, some bush bashing but a lot of satisfied 'we found the trail' action. We found this cache, and a few others. Thanks for placing. A bit scary up here, but a good find

I often tell people Booroomba Rocks has the greatest reward to effort ratio in the ACT…if you drive all the way to the carpark it’s barely half an hour to the top and some absolutely magnificent views back towards Canberra.

It’s also such an incredible playground up there, for hikers and climbers alike. There’s so much to explore starting with the views offered here at Ground Zero. I’d recommend definitely heading over to that big buttress to the right (there is a faint trail if you can find it), and then all the way over to the back and the left which will take you to one of the ACT’s oldest cache. The top of that buttress overlooks the carpark way down below.

Been meaning to return to Booroomba for a long time and log this cache and I shall be back again soon enough…thanks Darkside Dan!

PS keep an eye out for the wedge-tailed eagles that cruise the skies around here…they’re not shy!

UPDATE: Selfie game still very ordinary

Cache 10249 on 11 Jun 2023.

What a beautiful day for a bush walk, and even better to have some caches to aim for. Headed out with KittyKatch, Joolay, Albida, Toyhunters, FurfacesLL, and Sebass to get to Booroomba rocks, my first time. It was a bit of a slog to get up the hill, but the views were amazing! Grabbed a few caches while wandering around at the top, South Canberra Views being the highlight! A wonderful day with and wonderful peeps to cache with! Signed BB or JBB!

Made it to the look out spot! Such amazing views from here. Answers sent to the CO by Joolay, although we might have been enjoying the view too much to pay much attention to the rocks at our feet!

Thanks DARKSIDEDAN for the earth cache and the fun!

Found with Booroomba Bash (BB or JBB) consisting of me, albida33, AngelG27, FurfacesLL, Joolay, Kittykatch and sebass19. The earthcache answers will be sent by Joolay on behalf of our group. Incredible location, the views are spectacular and at this time of the morning it was much quieter and with less muggles than later in the day. You can identify so many Canberra spots from up top. 'South Canberra Views' looked so close yet so far from here. TFTC DSD!

Since my return to Canberra, I have been looking forward to getting out on a group walk. The opportunity came along a little quicker than expected and a trip to Booroomba Rocks was planned for today. I was joined for a great days walking and scrub bashing by Joolay, Kitty Katch, AlngelG27, FurfacesLL, Sebass19 and Toy Hunters. The logs were signed JBB for June Booroomba Bash. We met up at the Booroomba Rocks car park on a bright sunny but quite cold morning. It was not long before we were on our way up the trail, but with a few stops along the way, it seemed to go in no time. The caching along the top of the rocks began and then a trip out to South Canberra views. With time run out we skipped the trip down the cliff face and returned to the car park for a final short detour walk to another big rock. The day was finished with the virtual up at Honey Suckle Creek tracking station, amongst the huge crowds camping for the weekend. This was a fantastic day and I can't wait for out next outing.

After our first off track pouting, it was up to the lookout to examine the area for this earth cache. The view was impressive and the amount of granite on display amazing. We settled on some answers and they have been sent on by Joolay for the group.

Thanks for the cache DARKSIDEDAN

Today FFLL no 2 joined albida33, AngelG27, Toy Hunters, Joolay, Kittykatch and sebass19 to grab a few caches around the Booromba Rocks for a bit of fun. We couldn't have asked for better weather for this walk. A cool start and clear blue sky all day as we trekked up the rocky hills and down the rocky dales, stopping when we needed to give the old knees a break, or take in some great vistas. Some of the areas required a bit of a scramble through thick undergrowth, but still worth it. Today we called ourselves the June Booroomba Bash (JBB or BB).

A bit of climb up to this one, a few muggles joined us to take in these views. Another spectacular area. Thanks DSD for bringing us to this location, and for drawing our attention away from the views and to consider what we were standing on.

11-Jun-23
I have looked at the area for years but never made it up here. So worth a visit. Answers sent to CO for the group.

Perfect day for my first visit to Booroombra Rocks. Signing as JBB for June Booroombra Bash

Thanks for getting me out and about DARKSIDEDAN

Rain soup with 50m views so taking in the majesty of the granite outcrop. TFTC DARKSIDEDAN - great to look at some rocks up close like in geology at UNE a few decades ago!

16-May-23
I don’t know what took me so long to venture up this one. Maybe it was it’s popularity (hard to do on a weekend as it’s so busy), or maybe because after so many mountain hikes I could of sworn I’d already done it.

These peaks deserve all the attention they get. Just an outstanding view. I made sure to leave plenty of caches untouched as this will be a regular return.

From honeysuckle campground, the estimated time up and back is 6 hours!? That’s crazy. This is an easy 3.5 hours, with a stop for lunch at the top. A great half day hike Smile

TFTC DSD!

One of my favourite spots in Namadgi, and worth dragging the family to on a hot day. Last time I was here was 2018 when the trees were green & plentiful before the bushfire, but it's still good to be back. TFTEC!

**Today**

I have been looking forward to the "Booroomba Walk" Community Celebration event for a long time now! One of the best ideas for a CC event in my opinion, great to bring people out to a beautiful part of Namadgi and organise a group walk! Brought back memories of a Cankid event which was also fantastic!

It was an excellent day too, majority of the walk was sunny and clear, but when we reached the top it turned sour and the wind was horrendous and we even saw some light snow, which was unexpected at this time of year! As we retreated back down the mountain again it cleared up once more with blue skies again...! The weather couldn't make up it's mind!

An excellent day overall with a lovely walk and some great views. So many views that were previously obstructed have now been opened up by the recent fires, as have some of the walks to the caches. The undergrowth is still very low and easy to navigate around!

Thanks to 2LD for organising, and all the cache owners from today's finds!

Very nice spot, a very quick reply from the CO about the answers. We were the BCC walking group, though I think I heard someone (maybe it was Loci??) talking about the BBC walking group - whoever that may be.

Thanks DSD!

Out for the Booroomba Rocks Community Event, an Earthcache was great as an extra bonus. Did some abseiling here in the late 80's before geocaching was even a thing. Nice to be back here for the first time since to take in the fantastic views. As an extra thrill we had sunshine, sleet and even snow. Enjoying Namadgi! Thanks DARKSIDEDAN.

A big caching day around Booroomba with Contesta, StarsAlign + GeoPartner. A long walk in along Booroomba Rd from the locked gate at the carpark on Apollo Rd - Booroomba Rd is closed because the bridge over the second creek crossing was washed out in the floods. This adds a a nice few km as a warmup (and later, a cooldown) walk!

Up the Booroomba Rocks trail to the expansive, big sky views at the top, we then walked around, below and beyond the rocks picking up all the caches we could.

Great company and fantastic weather made for a very enjoyable day out.

I gathered the necessary data for this earthcache at GZ after admiring the awesome views, then sent them to the CO who quickly gave me the green light to log.

Thanks, DSD.

I'm pretty familiar with Booroomba, having visited multiple times to climb its cliffs, explore and even drink cocktails. This earthcache was discovered once some phone coverage was obtained on the summit Smile It was a bit of a grey day, so the light wasn't good for photography. After collecting the details, we headed off to check out the peak above the North Buttress & then wander over to the SW peak for another cache...

What an adventure. Found it, and had a great time.

The robot clicked disapprovingly, gurgled briefly inside its cubical interior and extruded a pony glass of brownish liquid. "Sir, you will undoubtedly end up in a drunkard's grave, dead of hepatic cirrhosis," it informed me virtuously as it returned my ID card. I glared as I pushed the glass across the table.

He heard the loud impact before he ever saw the result. It had been so loud that it had actually made him jump back in his seat. As soon as he recovered from the surprise, he saw the crack in the windshield. It seemed to be an analogy of the current condition of his life.

She asked the question even though she didn't really want to hear the answer. It was a no-win situation since she already knew. If he told the truth, she'd get confirmation of her worst fears. If he lied, she'd know that he wasn't who she thought he was which would be almost as bad. Yet she asked the question anyway and waited for his answer.

Spending time at national parks can be an exciting adventure, but this wasn't the type of excitement she was hoping to experience. As she contemplated the situation she found herself in, she knew she'd gotten herself in a little more than she bargained for. It wasn't often that she found herself in a tree staring down at a pack of wolves that were looking to make her their next meal.

TFTC Smile First time out in these parts for a long time. Great to be back out here and enjoying this beautiful part of Namadgi once again. So peaceful on a crisp autumn day, the birds are singing, and muggles about.

Grateful thanks to CO for placing and maintaining the caches to entertain me on my journey.

I organised another trip so my international students could take a walk in Namadgi and see some Australian bush and animals. We had a great day and they enjoyed the walk up from Honeysuckle Creek. There was still snow on the track in places but the weather was great. What a fabulous place Booroomba Rocks is - the views were great today and the group made the walk up to the Pinnacle to get the 360 views. I stayed back and gathered information for this earthcache. Thanks for the cache Dan - it was fun learning more about the geology and answering the questions.

This is the first time I have ever been up here and it is amazing! I love the views and the formations. I still have a few caches to get up here, so I am so looking forward to coming back.

The only find of the day. I was visiting Booroomba Rocks today with my mate Toi from Japan, giving him a taste of beautiful Namadgi bush. He loved it, just as I did when I first visited. It is such a beautiful location. I checked my phone to see how far we were from the trad up here and noticed this earthcache. Awesome! So I collected the answers and sent them off to the CO. Permission to log granted. TFTE DARKSIDEDAN!

I couldn't resist the opportunity to return to Booroomba rocks once more and collect a few more caches along the way [^]. So once again, I was up bright and early on a Saturday to meet up with various cachers and muggles through the CBC Big Grin. A very pleasant walk up the track and it's always a pleasure coming up here. Unfortunately the cloud was sitting very low this morning, but it cleared later on for some impressive views. We discussed the questions and enjoyed the rest at the top before heading off to Jamming the Line. Thanks DARKSIDEDAN.

Visited to-day, visited this scenic spot many times and will no doubt come back again. After briefly stopping our party headed down the north and south buttresses for two traditional caches. (Apologies to the CO for the several e-mails the message centre kept on sending them off before I had finished them) TFTC.

I climbed up to Booroomba Rocks on Sunday morning with my daughter and her boyfriend, after camping at the Honeysuckle Creek campground on Saturday night. Clear skies, spectacular views, well worth the arduous climb. I'm visiting the area from Perth. CO has confirmed my answers. Thanks for setting up the cache DARKSIDEDAN. A favourite.

Went skiing down at Perisher (Blue cow was closed !!!!) on Wednesday, in atrocious conditions, Thursday was worse, so we abandoned going up friday - as it turned out, the conditions were even worse !!!!

So, Went for a walk up to Booroomba rocks this windy friday morning, into a winter-wonderland. The path in the upper regions was covered in snow, and many wattle trees covered in snow were leaning over the path - we got covered in dry snow.

Got the info required, sent it off to Dan, confirmed.

Pics tell the story of a beautiful day up there - very windy, but out of the wind, the snow was over everything.

Found on a hiking trip with Lpud, who liked the area so much when he was there the week before, decided he'd like to come back and bring me with him. I'm so glad he did. The views were amazing and the walk in was good exercise. We passed alot of like minded people. Gets a favourite from me, thanks for bringing us out this way.

Visited while on the way to collect south canberra views with LPUD. Views were spectacular from this spot as well and was an interesting earthcache to gather the information for.

Out with Naplam237, to find one of Canberra's oldest close by, we thought we would do this Earth Cache.... what a great detour!
The weather today was a mixed bag, being a little cold, windy and trying to snow, it was awesome!!
The hill climb was intense up to the bottom of the Granite slab.
I was blown away by the views!!
We grabbed the necessary answers and enjoyed the views for a while longer, before setting off for the main purpose of our adventure today.

This was awesome and well worth the effort to get here.

An afternoon's walk with ZQX to collect this earthcache. Plenty of muggles around. This is about my fourth time up here. And still need another trip to collect the last few caches. TFTC.

Answers submitted to CO via the geocaching.com messaging system.

Walked up to Booroomba Rocks with TikvaNZ this afternoon. There were lots of muggles about, despite the overcast conditions. Four muggles kept us company at GZ, peering over the edge. We collected information for this earth cache, then thought about doing a nearby cache called Vertical Bushwalking. Nah. Too late in the day for that!

Great earthcache Darkside Dan! My third visit to Booroomba Rocks. Always a great spot.

Came up just after sunrise for a pretty magic view over Canberra and Namadgi! Continued onward from here to explore above and below the cliff, taking us well into the afternoon. TFTC!!!!

Chooo ooo [FTF] on a lovely sunny afternoon. I only just finished lunch, when there was an alert on my phone! A new Earthcache! – Well, I do love earthcaches, and I didn’t have anything exciting planned for the afternoon, so off I went! Now, I have been up here many times, but still, I just can’t get enough of it – a fantastic place! And with weather like today, it was no surprise to meet many other bushwalkers along the way.

Got to GZ, pulled out my questions, and wrote down the answers. No reception here, so would have to wait until I hit civilization to send! Also took a few photos – did I say, this is an amazing place! Favourite from me, thanks Darksidedan.
