#7235Were staying on Magnetic Island for a week, well as long as the cyclone stays away, and caching is a priority, obviously!Aha! An avenged DNF, found after a hint from the CO and another good look! The wallabies around here are very friendly! Thanks for placing and maintaining this cache GeocachingTownsville!

Today we boarded the ferry and headed to Magnetic Island.

A very busy day of caching and sightseeing was had.

Your cache was one we found along the way.

Many thanks for your cache placement and adding to our geocaching experience today.

Good to go.

I’ve replaced the log today and reset as intended as it had suffered from a little cache creep.
Gorgeous on the island today.

Our first day out exploring the island and there is no better way to do it than via the geocaching app. Kploz was taking notes while I used the decoding tool at the posted coordinates to solve the puzzle. We the checker verifying we had the correct answer we continued our walk about the town.
It took us a while to spot the cache as it blended in well and muggles walked by regularly. Unfortunately there was limited space to mark our find as the logbook is full. We took some photos for the CO and will mark a Needs Maintenance……we hope the QLD reviews are a little more gentler than the VIC ones who like to remind us regularly (sorry Bunjil).

Day 8 of the annual Crooked Clan North Queensland Christmas Catch Up with my in laws just happens to be the last day on Maggie. We had a slow start this morning and got packed up with a late breakfast/ early brunch.

We still had a few hours to kill until our 1 pm barge, and it was too hot to do much. So we opted to drive around the island collecting a few caches on my list, whilst my son clocked up some driving time for his learners license.

I had solved the previous incarnation of the puzzle but never managed to get over here to find it. So I had no problems solving this one the day it was published. Finally after 5 years and at least 4 trips to Townsville, I have managed to get to Maggie and find it. It is a nice puzzle.

The tricky little nano took a few minutes to find.

Many thanks Geocaching Townsville

Calculated the coordinates, which were confirmed as correct by Geochecker. Today I spent 15 minutes checking every possible place on the furniture at GZ, without any sign of the cache. Enjoyed seeing the rock wallabies while I was there, so the visit was still worthwhile. Cheers.

We spent the entire day on island time, and as this was our last find for the day, we knew we would have to set our clocks forward…or was that backward for mainland time.
What a pity! We have had a lovely day here and could not have asked for better weather.
We enjoyed as many walks as we could, tried our best to avoid armies of brutal mosquitoes and had a lovely beer in the pub overlooking horseshoe Bay.
The birdlife was noisy and wonderful, and the koalas were cooly strung out over the tree branches in the hot sun on our walk to Fort today.
And, tomorrow after a most wonderful holiday in Townsville, we begin our trek north.
Thanks Burgo78

Day 17 of a 3 week holiday driving from Canberra to Townsville and back to attend the Mega. Today was attempting to finish all the caches on Magnetic Island. I ended up with 2 DNFs and 3 did not attempts. Otherwise a successful day with some pleasant and enjoyable walks. Two Koalas sighted plus some bird species I hadn't seen before. Cache easily found. TFTC.

With great excitement we headed to Townville for the for the first FNQ Mega - we were very curious to see how much it had changed since we lived there pre-caching.

Today we headed over to Maggie with Pprass, the primary goal was to do the AdLab and have a look about. It was supposed to rain but it hardly bothered us at all.

Another tricky puzzle we were happy to find, Eventually.
Thanks for contributing to the fun burgo78

Found at 10:10:00 AM(t) GAFF5 in the company ot The Morris.
Cache was found in the first spot that I looked in, but it was Robyn that eventually found it [B)]
Thanks burgo78.

Once we identified the hint at GZ, it was so much easier to solve this puzzle. I wish I could say the same of trying to find the cache itself! After some lulls in searching due to strolling muggles, we eventually spotted it.

Thanks for find #3505

Due to rain overnight, don’t think it stopped all night, our plans for today began around Horseshoe Bay. We hoped the rain would hold off. We were lucky to start with but we were stopped at attempting a couple of caches due to flooded roads or flooded track assesses.

Woohoo….found this one after a short search, these type are not easy to see, blends in well.

We arrived on Maggie at 2pm for 3 nights. Just enough time to look for a few caches before dinner. Ran into gmj3191 and PamJ at our second cache so had some help with the next ones. So great to meet one of our reviewers and so grateful for all they do voluntarily for the game. Burgo78 for the puzzle and the cache

MEGA Trip - Day 6 - Magnetic Island

Assembled the full MEGATRON crew (bella at waggy, dahumbug, tardis0061, crash2079) for a wonderful geoTour around Magnetic Island, organised by TikvaNZ. Another early start, to get our car loaded on the 7am ferry.

After an amazing circumnavigation of the island on a Aquascene charter with 20+ cachers calling themselves Mega Pirates, we raced around the island by car to grab as many more as we could before our 6pm departure ferry.

With a little bit of time to spare before the ferry, we saw this one on our solved list not too far away. Distracted by the cute rock wallabies (including one with a joey in the pouch) we eventually remembered to look for the cache.

Great to be back in town as part of The Megatrons ((The Bug, Crash, Tardis and myself).
Well done Townsville and Charters Towers of qualify and variety to go with the Mega.
We completed the signing duties and re hid. TFTC

A great day out on a private geocaching boat trip. The skipper got us close and we did the rest. Nice to find another oldie. 24 cachers on board so the logs signed as X for the Maggie Pirates. Good weather and seas.

The mini Roos were very cute and almost Meer Cat like at times. A Joey was spotted but this photo of one most depicted island time.

This was my favourite GZ today because, it was so late in the afternoon, I got to see the rock wallabies come out. The cache was found after a bit of time, it blends in well. Love the wildlife here.

Time for one last find before heading back to the mainland. It took far too long to solve it so I made sure to find it. Thanks for the cache

The holiday house was just up the street from this one so we solved the puzzle a few days earlier. Took us longer than we would have liked! After attending the Mega in Townsville we came back to the island and picked this one up. TFTC!

It’s Mega time once again!! Woo hoo!! Love these epic road trips and a wonderful Mega event. Managed to cache with loads of different people throughout the long weekend - such a fun way to cache! Have signed as SCG, X, Snag, Capital crunchers, NRC, Nibletricecakes, Minifigas, Minifig or some combination of the above! Thanks to everyone in the region for the top quality caching. Appreciate your efforts planting and maintaining these caches.

A great place for a cache - a wonderful walk and great views

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

TFTC

This cache was found as part of a trip with GoosenEgg and Stainless Steel Rat to Far North Queensland for the Townsville Mega. The trip started in Cairns and ended in Mackay, and allowed us to find some ripper caches inbetween.
We managed to complete some of the Breaking Bad cache series until we driven back to the car due to the heat, and the Saint and most of the book series. There were some good variety in both these series which kept them interesting.
One of the highlights (although a low light when removing the mud) was the walk on the salt flats outside Townsville to get the challenge caches
Another highlight was Magnetic island, where other than some great views, we managed to spot two koala's in the wild.
Thank you for placing and maintaining this cache that was part of our trip

14-Apr-22
I found the original cache in 2015 when I walked from the ferry. We took or rental over today so were able to park quite close. Just a a short walk with great views.
Thanks for relisting this one burgo78

Great Northern escape 2022 Day 7. Townsville Mega section Day 7. Today was the first big outing of the Townsville leg of this trip. I joined Nibletricecakes, Gliss!, Smitten Granny and Cosmonaut97 for a day trip to Magnetic Island. It was an early start, but pleasant ferry ride over. First activity was the walk up the Forts hill for the Labs and a few caches. This took us till late morning, so after a few caches around Horseshoe Bay, we had lunch and continued caching, targeting some nice old caches and solved puzzles. Our return to the South side of the island took us to a nasty pier cache where we failed badly before lining up for the ferry home. We were all ready for dinner and bed after a fantastic day !

The puzzle was familiar and the location spectacular. The wallabies where very interested in what was going on, in case there was food involved.

Thanks for the cache burgo78

Fifth day in Queensland and today we had book the ferry crossing over to Magnetic Island, we had Gregg filling the spare seat in the back of the 4WD, just the one day to try and fit everything in, we didnt get everything but we never do!

This was my first Mega trip in a while now, I had planned to go to the last one in Wangaratta but concerns about COVID made me pull out at the last minute. For this one it was a trip with BudgieTas and GooseandEgg landing in Cairns on the Sunday where we collected a few caches in the dark before driving down to Townsville on the Monday collecting a select few caches along our very indirect route.
While in the Townsville we made the best of our time collecting a few series of caches and searching for some of the older caches on offer, some with lots of favourite points or something we thought maybe a bit different, along with all that we got to go to all the Mega events and meet up with cachers old and new, spending Thursday with Greg going round Magnetic Island and a bit of time with the Davinells who went out of their way to welcome the Tasmanians to Queensland.
All to soon it came to an end and we drove down to Mackay on the Monday again collecting caches along the way before flying home on the Tuesday Morning.
Thanks for the warm (sometimes too hot) welcome Queensland until next time!

Thanks for the cache.

Found on 14th April 2022 thanks to burgo78 for placing this cache for me to find.

Found while in Townsville to attend the Mega event.

I travelled up from Adelaide, taking a week or so so get here, meeting up with FeatherWaite to do some caching around the Cunnamulla area then continuing on to Barcaldine and Charters Towers.

While in Townsville I teamed up with Budgietas, Stainless-steel-rat and Gooseandegg on some days, including a day on Magnetic Island, and with Davidwazza at other times. When caching with Davidwazza, logbooks were signed DWEG1.

All in all it was a great week or so in Townsville, with plenty of great caches found.

Thanks burgo78 for the puzzle and the cache.

Nibletricecakes loaded up her car with GLISS!, Albida33, Cosmonaut97 and I jumped in as well
to cross over to Magnetic Island before the Mega started . We had planned our day and put the Fort caches, including the ALs as our priority before the day temperature rose too high for us southerners. This cache was also a must do one as we had solved it before leaving home. The cache was found log signed as NACGS and the cache returned to its hidey hole
TFTC burgo78. You certainly have been busy ensuring that we would all be kept busy.
Take another FP.

The penny dropped for me too, and I had this solved. The hard part for me was the find! It took way longer than it should have. Nearly gave up, but persistence paid off. Thanks for the cool puzzle.

TFTC,
This is day 26 of our northern escape to attend the Townsville MEGA.
Our adventure today was to visit Magnetic Island.
Now we found this complex. I had given up but Nana nel wouldn't and asked another cacher for guidance. She son had a possible location and it was not long before before we were a part of fhis history.

Having a bit of a lay-day, having landed yet another week on this spectacular pile of rocks off the Townsville coast. Accommodation is almost midway between the puzzle and what later proved to be GZ.
Last visit here, my phone had the GZ for the clue around the corner and up the street, where there was nothing whatsoever that would have been helpful Smile
However, while driving past, I noticed the “field puzzle piece” earlier in the stay. The penny dropped and one evening I tried with no success to solve it using images of similar items, however none made sense. While passing the other day, I stopped and took a photo for leisurely solving later. A visit to the mainland the other day with an hour to kill was perfect. Under the big fig tree at Juliette’s on The Strand, I enjoyed a long black over ice and solved the puzzle.
This morning, I grabbed the drone to get some footage of the area and took the short walk to GZ. A quick hunt soon had the cache in hand, logged and returned as found.

Found on 30/10/21; find number 1489.

Thanks for the hunt and the cache burgo78.

Beautiful sunny day out on the island. The puzzle kept me thinking for a moment, but once I saw the hint everything was clear. Thanks for another nice one.

Found while having a week long holiday on this magnificent island. Had this one solved before we left home.
Thanks for a great little puzzle and the walk. Sorry about the late logs, my GPS died and I had to do a hard reset loosing all of my data, so now having to re-trace my steps. Luckily we only found about 15 caches over a few days, so they’re easily enough to remember.
Thanks again

TFTC loved the puzzle to locate the coordinates, but BEWARE look with your eyes to find this one as there are a couple of hornets nests also hiding.

Found with greencordial. Although once see spotted the plover she threw me towards it like a shield and bolted.... a bit of convincing and she came with me still shielding herself from the friendly bird. Great spot cheers!

Was meeting some friends over the island at 10:00am but caught the sunrise ferry so I had a little time in the early morning to grab a few caches.

Solved this one a while ago using the hint and a little bit of google for help. Walked over to this one from the terminal before the scooter hire place around the corner opened up. Was concerned about the recent DNF but luckily found it straight up.

Sat for a bit enjoying the surroundings and meeting a few of the locals. Thanks for the puzzle and the hide Smile

Thanks to CO for the hint, we finally cracked the code and found the cache today. It was on the floor so we put it back as best as we can, under the strict supervision of the rock wallabies! TFTC!

Found on a blustery morning before boarding the car ferry and heading home. Took a few minutes for MrsCNQ to spot this sneaky little cache. The previous incarnation gave us all sorts of trouble, took us ages to work out the puzzle when we were relatively inexperienced, once we couldnt find it, another it was missing, it was a real nemesis. Interesting spot with an angry sea today, thanks for relisting Burgo.

We were exploring different parts of the island we had never been to before and we were a rather surprised a particular area didn't have a cache located on it. But after a little bit more research it looks like there is a cache there but it is connected to this mystery and unfortunately for us this time around the penny just didn't drop for us which meant we just weren't able to narrow the search area down.

17-Oct-19
Found after some help from the CO, turns out I was kinda right but I was using the product of the numbers so my answers were gibberish. Thanks for the awesome little cache!
