Went for a scoot along the esplanade which was fairly quiet on a Monday. Lots of interesting things to see along the way and a good variety of caches and Adlabs. Thanks for highlighting something we would usually just pass by. *The generic bit for this trip*We are on now on our way south after heading north for warmer weather. From Cooktown back to Notth East Victoria, weaving inland and to the coast, caching as we go. No real plans, just taking each day as it comes and enjoying the adventure in our converted ambulance. Thanks to all COs for placing and maintaining caches for our enjoyment.

Departed Melbourne several weeks ago now and have been travelling north for the winter, well, for the northern warmth actually (hopefully Smile), passing through as many small towns as I can grabbing the odd cache here and there as I travel.
Finally made the northern warmth and the Cape and we have loved every minute of it Smile now we are on our way home again and having many more adventures as we slowly travel south.
Spending a few extra days in Townsville now due to a cracked chassis and tow bar mount, due to get fixed this week before we can move on again.
Another day touring around Townsville, visiting geocaches and tourist attractions and generally having a relaxing time and we are in to visit Kissing Point, the Military Museum and to have lunch along the Strand.
**Thanks for placing this cache Lord of the Rocks**

Apologies for the late log here (07.01.24) but I've had a busy time since getting back to the UK.I'd decided on a walk along here thanks to the art exhibition currently running - a mixed bag but some very cool stuff - and was glad to find a few caches along the way - including this fine EC. I appreciate ones which don't have too many hoops to jump through and let me leave having learned something interesting, and thus it was with this one - thank you Lord of the Rocks. Did this one on the way back, nice and easy answers have been sent, pic to follow.

After a couple of days of allowing my foot to deflate and repair after my Sunday 'big walk' I was keen to get some caching in as and when possible. A run out to purchase some oils and lubes, enabled a following trip to the Strand to make a start there. Just a couple of caches, but good to keep my QLD caches increasing nicely. Thanks all COs.

Today, with the assistance of ChatGPT (the kids wanted to give it a go), my family and I had a memorable geocaching experience at this cache during our ongoing two and a half year journey across Australia. Focusing on Earth, Virtual, and highly favored point caches, we continue to immerse ourselves in learning about new places and the captivating history of our Earth.
This cache, situated in a breathtaking location, exemplified the beauty of our chosen cache types. It allowed us to connect with Australia's natural wonders and explore the geological marvels that have shaped this land. The accompanying information and clues added depth to our understanding of the site and its significance.
Geocaching has become more than just a treasure hunt for us; it's a means of acquiring knowledge and appreciating the places we visit. Earth caches revealed ancient rock formations and prehistoric life, while virtual caches immersed us in diverse cultures and historical landmarks.
As our Australian journey continues, we treasure the valuable memories and transformative experiences gained through geocaching. It remains an incredible adventure of exploration, education, and family bonding. We express our gratitude to the geocaching community for creating and maintaining these caches, enabling us to discover the beauty, history, and intricacies of this extraordinary land.
Thank you, The Wandering Geologist, for being a part of our ongoing journey! (Answers have already been sent)

We are on our long-awaited journey around the world in 99 days. Second try after canceling in 2020.
Our fourth stop after Los Angeles, Hawaii and New Zealand is Australia.

This time was of course used to find some geocaches here.
Today we were searching for the Earthcache **The Wentworth Scale (The Strand, QLD) - DP/EC 100**

At the given coordinates the needed answers where found quickly and after sending them, ther is a new smile on our geocaching map!

We all thought that there would be various grades of sand sizes but had absolutely no idea at just how many there actually are. After sampling the sand and entering into a round table discussion, we reached a consensus which Team_Crackers kindly submitted on behalf of us all. Thank you for the cache and the lesson.

This was a steep learning curve for me. I had never considered that there were so many classifications for sand. This was an interesting cache that I am glad I have completed. Thank you for the cache and to Team_Crackers for sending our well discussed answers.

Tankengine, Youban and I had another day of a caching fun planned for today around Townsville.

This cache: We came by this cache this morning and ran into the FATZ Team. We discussed the answers before sending them to the CO.

Funny how all of us had a different idea of the answer and in particular comparison made of sand elsewhere.

A nice spot though along The Strand this morning. Tftc!!!

Day 13 of a 3 week holiday driving from Canberra to Townsville and back to attend the Mega. Today was the last day for team FATZ (Fox in Jox, AngelG27, ZQX and I). We started the morning with the early event, followed by a relaxed breakfast. Then we meandered the Strand to pick off a few caches, before heading for the airport to drop off the others. I stayed on for a few more days. Information collected as a team and submitted by AngelG27. TFTC.

After having a fantastic time at the mega we are slowly catching up with logs, today we joined forces with Geoturtle37 and Pspi4506 for a day of caching and sightseeing as the last few days have been very hectic.

We were heading down the Strand for a second time picking up information for a lab that we forgot to get but this time we realised that there were a couple of earth caches along here as well and as we all enjoy earth caches these were immediately put on the must do list.
This was the second for the day and we enjoyed discussing the answers here and once we had a set that we all agreed on as none of us are geologists we went them off to the CO for adjudication.
Hopefully they are good enough for this log to remain but if not we will happily delete our log.

Thanks The Wandering Geologist for the cache.

Cache 8914 on 20 Apr 2022.

Up in Townsville from CBR for the Mega with TikvaNZ, Fox in Jox and ZQX and many other CBR cachers! So many interesting caches to find while in the area, we will sadly not be able to get to all of them. Some puzzles were sorted beforehand and some were sorted on the run, some individually and some as a group. We had a caching plan before we arrived which helped frame our time, but as always, some caches we were driving past were too tempting to leave.

Today: catching our flights south this morning but a couple of hours still to grab a last few caches.

This cache: always happy to look at earthcaches , especially when combined with being by the beach! In fact, after landing on a few small beaches and noticing the different sands, I thought a cache looking a different types of sand would be a great idea, and here is one! Answers sent to the CO and photo attached!

Thanks Lord of the Rocks for the cache and the fun!

An interesting EC and one I enjoyed. Only early morning and quite warm but nice along the strand and by the water. We collected the answers together and GreyHams will send them in for us both.

Up to Townsville with GreyHams, timed well with a Mega and Maze and a lot of quality caching in the area to keep anyone busy for longer than the time we had! Counties were our primary focus, up to Cardwell and south of Mackay... a side trip out towards charters, we covered some distance in the 5 days away but saw so much.

Day 1 saw us arrive late in the day after a stop off in cairns, out towards Charters was a lovely drive with its drier scenery before back into the mega to catch up with friends and a Trivia night.

Day 2 was our Mega and Maze day. Lots of great quality and fun ALs on site, friendly people and a visit from the Mega's Easter Bunny for my chocolate egg! Even managed a refreshing squirt from a hose on one AL much to the amusement of those watching!!! Loved the escape room experience and then off north towards Cardwell for a little caching through more iconic north Queensland scenery.

Day 3 saw us walking the length of the strand, lovely historic area, lots of caching and great scenery to enjoy. A good solid morning in the area before boarding the ferry to Palm island, after the warm walk of the morning it was great to sit in the cold aircon with lunch, a cold drink and relax out on the water.

The visit to Palm Island was a beautiful location and very pleased to have had the opportunity to experience it. A calm relaxed trip across was a far contrast to the busy and rough trip back. Into the waves led to a wild and stomach churning bounce of the ferry as it made its journey back to Townsville, yet up top in the open wind and spray it was a wild and fun time!

Day 4 saw us driving south of Mackay for a letterbox trail. More iconic Queensland scenery as we drove, love all the cane fields, lush green and huge mountain ranges. The letter box trail was worth the drive, a lovely area and well put together and we even passed other Canberra teams along the road! Mackay offered lovely beach scenery, a step back into my childhood and a little adventure... plan 'F' payed off as it often does. The little town of Calen came to our rescue were the people were friendly and and the facilities and hotel worthy of stopping.

Day 5 and our last, the journey back towards Townsville with a few stops as we cached along, the heat kicked up a notch but the cars aircon matched it well! Up to Castle Hill and then our time was done and back to the airport and the trip home... Many thanks to the CO's for your caches that led us on another very enjoyable trip.

Day 13 of the road trip to Townsville to with LuckyL10n and today all about the caches around town.

The day after the main event of the trip had finished and the last day in town before we drive back to Canberra...but we are taking 7 days so all is not lost. We headed out around town grabbing a few challenge caches, a few more high D/T caches and other caches that we drove past. We were joined by fitzy_1965 and minniek for part of the day, having a more relaxed approach to th day....but of course, all still good fun.

One goal today was to head out and grab the challenge cache on the walk up this way. No issues with any and our names wee soon in the log book. Log was signed with individuals names or as SCG (Southern Caching Group)

We also hit up a few of the earthcaches and this was another. We gathered the answers, complied and LuckyL10n has sent for response.

Thanks for another earthcache..another one in a great location of North Queensland. Fav point added.

#14174; Day thirteen of the Townsville Mega adventure with Sol de lune. Day 10 of our Townsville Trek, and we were having a ball caching around Townsville ! Today was another big day. After the morning's CITO, we got stuck into finding more caches. A lot were pre-solved puzzles, a couple of interesting Earthcaches, and some fun / difficult Trads along the way. This one was a nice interesting Earthcache along the beautiful Strand. Enjoiyed our time here. minniek sent our answers to the CO, and permission to log has been received.

Day 10 of our trek to the Townsville Mega and back with fitzy_1965 and two of my geo-kids Death_killer & my_name_jeff_1.

The last true day of the Mega saw us heading to the CITO first then caching around the city before the Farewell Event at lunch. We arrived at the CITO around 8am to find the place deserted. Turns out all the trees had been planted and everyone has left. We came across a few other cachers and all picked up some rubbish together so we could say we made a contribution to the area. We toured around part of the Jezzine Brarracks before making our way to the event. Afterwards, we teamed up with some others to pick up some nice types and D/T’s before ending our day back to Castle Hill which was conveniently near our accommodation.

All caches were found quickly and easily unless otherwise mentioned. Thanks to all the CO’s.

They say the sun shines almost every day up here but I got caught in a light shower at GZ and the sky is all sorts of shades of grey. However, for a Melbournite, it’s still a very pleasant temperature and a welcome relief from the searing sun.

Day 4 of our Townsville Mega event weekend. We started tackling the caches and adlabs along the Strand with hevwalker. Then headed to Castle hill to do a few (Wow, its stunning up there!) before going to GZ to the pathtag swap and official closing ceremony. WooHoo we held our time in the escape room and snagged a prize for first place! After the event had closed, we said our goodbyes to old friends and new friends, headed back to the strand to find a few more and play on the scooters! A nice early (and cool) start to the day for Ghostgums and I as we worked our way North along the Strand with The Green Geckos and Muggle65. An earthcache should not be ignored when passing by, so we paused and assessed the area against the cache content and questions.

I've walked up and down here a handful of times only and never really taken the time to check out the sand. Probably cause I can live without it... Wink

Answers sent to the CO, thanks for the quick lesson in the region's environment.

During the Easter long weekend, it was all about the Townsville Mega event! Highlights included a hike at Cape Pallarenda Conservation Peak, walks atop the local mountains of Mount Stuart, Castle Hill, and Mount Louisa, checking out a few shady spots along Ross River, sewer pipe / tunnel adventures, and a scuba dive to see the Museum of Underwater Art at John Brewer Reef. The Mega events themselves were fantastic: Gadget lab caches, GPS maze, trivia night, tree planting CITO, and Cal's Escape Room. There was also plenty of geocaching to be had, such as power trailing through the geoarts The Saint and the Book, and the collection of challenge caches at Bushland Beach mudflats. My view of Townsville had completely changed from my trip experience, and much kudos to the Cache Qld Townsville Mega Committee.

After a long day of activities, we decided to make one last visit to The Strand to take a visit to a couple of Adventure Lab Locations (knowing the water playground would be free of kids at this time of night). We managed to be close enough to this EarthCache that we made a stop here too. I've completed a few EarthCaches that uses the Wentworth Scale, including one in Morroco at Tangier's beach, so that brought back some memories. We soon examined the sand here and answered the questions, before sending to the CO for verification. Thanks The Wandering Geologist aka. Lord of the Rocks for the EarthCache placement and organisation.

It’s Mega time once again!! Woo hoo!! Love these epic road trips and a wonderful Mega event. Managed to cache with loads of different people throughout the long weekend - such a fun way to cache! Have signed as SCG, X, Snag, Capital crunchers, NRC, Nibletricecakes, Minifigas, Minifig or some combination of the above! Thanks to everyone in the region for the top quality caching. Appreciate your efforts planting and maintaining these caches.

Great Northern escape 2022 Day 8. Townsville Mega section Day 8. Mega Day 1. Easter has arrived and the town is quiet. There was a plan to try the Breaking bad walk today, but that fell apart due to some planning issues and a possibility the park was closed. What's more, it was hot. Instead Smitten Granny, Gliss!, Nibletricecakes and I toured around town doing Labs and interesting caches we had solved or had peaked our interest during planning. The evening was the welcome to Mega event alongside some amazing gadget caches, followed by some impromptu night caching with Cosmonaut97.

Whilst we looked at the Lab in the water park we started on the earthcache. The conditions here lead to very different sand then you see in some spots on the reef and coast along Queensland. Very intriguing. Answers will be sent by Gliss! for our party of four.

Thanks for the cache Lord of the Rocks

I visited this earthcache with Davidwazza thie evening while in Townsville to attend the Mega event.

I travelled up from Adelaide, taking a week or so so get here, meeting up with FeatherWaite to do some caching around the Cunnamulla area then continuing on to Barcaldine and Charters Towers.

While in Townsville I teamed up with Budgietas, Stainless-steel-rat and Gooseandegg on some days, including a day on Magnetic Island, and with Davidwazza at other times. When caching with Davidwazza, logbooks were signed DWEG1.

All in all it was a terrific week or so in Townsville, with plenty of great caches found.

Thanks Lord of the Rocks for an interesting earthcache.

Answers sent on behalf of the group by GLISS!

After spending yesterday out on the Island, the target today was as many ALs as possible with a few others thrown in for good luck. So it was that Nibletricecakes Albida33 , GLISS! and I set off to become conquering heroes. All caches were found to be in excellent condition so were signed as NAGS or some such combination.
These caches were extraordinary in their variety and creativity. Huge thanks to all COS for the incredible effort that has gone into the creation and placement of both the ALs and caches.

So busy here today!

So excited to be attending my second MEGA and to fly
to a destination for fun! And return to the tropics in an equally long time

Great to meet new faces and to spend caching time with some familiar cachers as well.Find #5433

A few days ahead to explore this beautiful hot city. So much caching on offer, and apologies for the generic log.

And so it goes, just happy to pick up caches such as this one. Thanks to Lord of the Rocks for putting out and maintaining this cache for our enjoyment!

I'm not the biggest EC fan - I just don't like not knowing I'm right or not straight away. You know you are correct when you find a container - unless morals get involved in it. Earthcaches - I try and do them once in a while. I had extra incentive to do it this weekend due to EC day and requiring this for a challenge. Thanks so much for the owner The Lord of the Rocks for placing this geocache in Townsville for us to access. I'm glad to have ticked this one off the list.

We have encountered The Wentworth Scale once before-completing a previous earth cache of course, so we knew what we were looking at. A nice, straight forward caches. Answers sent to CO

After biking both sides of the Ross River yesterday and picking up quite a few caches during our ride, we decided to take it a bit easier today. A walk up and down the strand, and a short drive out to near the port area still saw us pick up a few caches to keep our streak going. A big thank you to all the local COs for putting out all of these for us to find. Today we were challenged by some, impressed by others and found a couple of hides we hadn’t found before. We appreciate all your efforts.

Day five of my road trip and day 3 in Townsville. The plan today was to finish off the breaking bad series and then hunt around town for a few more target caches. Back on the bike and I started my ride, I followed the track north passing some caches I did yesterday to where I found the nicely widened track turn into a small bike track, Oh is this a sign of things to come.

With the breaking bad series completed and a couple of trad caches in the area it was now time to work my way down the coastline and grab some target caches of the area. I found myself on the strand again collecting a few more as caching at night here is very rewarding and some great people watching. This one was of great interest to me, I have not come across this type of earth cache before so it was very interesting. I am looking forward to my reply from the CO.

:1. Using the Wentworth Scale in the listing classify the beach sand is medium to coarse sand.

2. the sediment composition closely is multimineralic (more than one type of material).

Day 1 of our Townsville geocaching adventure with nikid1. It was time for an enjoyable stroll along The Strand to find some caches & hopefully find a sea breeze as we were really feeling the humidity. We stopped to inspect the sand & admire the view before continuing on our way. Answers sent.
Thanks for the bringing us to this beautiful spot The Wandering Geologist
