Rain is starting to come down heavily now. Still a lot of people on the track. Did they check the forecast? Probably not. I am getting a little concerned for my phone, but it survived the wetting.---The heck with the weather forecast! I got out my raincoat and bike out and cycled to the train stop. Trains are cancelled due to the earthquake earlier today, so I caught the I'm-a-train bus to Silverstream to find a bunch of caches between there and Upper Hutt. 12 caches in all, not a bad haul. Lots of dogs walking their pets of the riverside walk/cycleway, everyone getting thoroughly drenched! (me too).--- ### LET'S HAVE A BLOCK PARTY!!! ### On May 3rd, 2025, we will be celebrating 25 years of geocaching in **Rotorua, New Zealand** with a special **Block Party** event. Join us to celebrate 25 years of this amazing game, and that the very first geocache hidden outside of the United States, 25 years ago, was hidden here in New Zealand. You do not want to miss this event, so check out the [25 Years of Geocaching NZ! I wanted to find both a Trad and a Micro-sized cache today (in my efforts to try to qualify for some Challenge caches), and this cache fitted the bill for both criteria so made it my mission to visit it after work this evening.Everything was straightforward here, from the casual stroll alongside the river to finding the cache. No issues to report, and I soon had my name on the logsheet before replacing as found. Thanks for setting this one up
Im over from South Australia for a few weeks while my sister and BIL do a lovely driving tour of the South Island. My sisters dog Ridley became a geo-hound today as we exercised along the Hutt River Trail. Straight forward find, thank you. Log was a bit damp but not so bad that I couldnt sign it.TFTC opted-out user 31/10/2023 1:30pmFind # 2814
First find in a long time for me. Good to get back into the game. Even 1 find makes me hungry for daily streaks/ TFTC
My employer required me to attend a course on this side of the strait. So, even before I had planned flights or accommodation, I sussed out a heap of caches that I would pass near, or could get out to, after hours, in darkness.
After day three, and some dinner, I rugged up with several layers, grabbed several lighting options and took a wander round the streets and the HRT in a 5 hour, 15 km loop.
Easy find here after choosing the easier side for access.

Nice quiet day on the trail today the trees have grown so there is a little bit of scrambling behind the bushes to do
Passed by one cyclist while we were suspiciously lurking in the bushes but don't think they actually saw us . Tftc
Was greeted by some unexpected hosts. After a gentle eviction, saw the cute toy & left a small swag.
Quite a few walkers and cyclists on the trail today and I didn't want to hang around looking suspicious but I found a window of opportunity on the way back to my car to hunt for the cache. Not where I first thought it would be hidden but spotted quickly enough. All nice and dry. TFTC
Nice and easy find with a stroll along the river. Dog had fun playing and being wet while KTG and I searched the surrounds. TFTC
Wohoo! Sneaked in the bush, feeling a bit conspicuous but got there- shhhh! Showing a friend the joys of geocaching
In Petone for a ten pin bowling tournament. An evening bike ride along the river bank after doing a adventure lab and some caches in Rivendell area. All good here. Thanks GLAD-NZ for the cache.
I needed to get a few more steps in for the day, and D wanted somewhere flat — a stroll along the Hutt river fitted the bill. Quick find after waiting for muggles to mosey along, TFTC!
A lovely walk along the river on a summer's evening. Just a few muggles around but they didn't hold us up. TFTC Glad-NZ!
Found !but someone put a little boot in the container and could not get log out tftc !
Nice quick find on my morning caching expedition. Couple of muggles approaching me so I might just start walking a bit slower to let them overtake now ... thanks for the cache
Yay! Had to find one today, or wait another 4 years to tick off 29 Feb!!

Quick and easy find on a lovely day walking from Silverstream northwards. Did with MycroMan, Ezratar and the Fairy half. Thanks for the cache.
Another quick find along the river trail. No issues with the cache. It seems like every person I came across had a dog. All good here. TFTC
One of 18 caches located today on an enjoyable bike ride along the Hutt River trail (mostly) from Upper Hutt to Pomare Station. Another reasonably quick find. #2498. TFTC.
Beautiful day for a walk with the dog and managed to find this one as no one else around at this time of the day! Thanks!
Not long after a quick find at 'Strol b GLAD #11' it was another quick find at #12. We are both pretty sure that last time we walked this section of the Hutt River Trail there was a large stand of pine trees along here: how it has changed, you'd never be able to guess they were there. You certainly couldn't see the golf course beyond the trees.
As with the previous two caches there were no muggles about to interrupt us in finding, signing the log and replacing the cache. The cache description helped with the quick find more than the hint did .
Then onward to the next one on the way to Silverstream.

Out to stretch the legs in Trentham today. Quick grab as walking past in a gap in the flow of runners, walkers and cyclists. Thanks for the cache.
Has been hot the last few days and a break in the weather finnaly came so decided to stretch the legs and do a trail Lots of neat hides along this trail. A Nice hint in the description got this one located quite quickly.
Well the weekend was nearing by and I was wondering what I could get up to then a fellow geocacher contacted me asking if I wanted to go biking this weekend and with the family away why not I thought so Friday came around got sorted for the Saturday adventure then set off early Saturday morning reaching The Upper Hutt area around 9am we had a cuppa or two or three hen though we better stop chatting and get a move on, we set off to do a trail but while doing that make sure we also get the odd ones in between and a bit out and about as we go, as ya know when caching time ticks away rather fast so we needed to keep an eye on the time as I still had to return home sometime today., lucky for daylight savings and great weather on our side today. What a lovely area to cache in we last came here with the Mega on, so only 3 months ago but never got too much time for biking trails, the weekend went so fast but most enjoyable. It wasn't long before we had our first cache in hand then second third and so on, we signed the logs and placed the caches back exactly where we found them, a few muggles today but no one seemed to be worried about what we were up, was caching with 2 Bulbars today. caches were good no DNFs so far it was a nice quick find. better get on our way to the next cache then get a bit cleaned up have a drink and a bite to eat then start to get ready to head for home all in all a great day great company. Thank you so much for taking the time to place a cache here and give us yet another adventurous day out. Dropped nothing signed log, took nothing

For a long time we have wanted to get some smiley faces along this bike trail and these few days off in the camper were the very excuse we needed to do them. The ride was very enjoyable and very easy with just a little breeze. It was great to see such an array of different hides and to see some of the country side from a different angle. All hides appeared to be in good condition and the co ords were usually spot on
Many thanks for bringing us to this area

# 1242 Oh yah, back to work today and rode my bike, so took the longer way home down the river today and it was a fun ride although i almost managed to get some gravel rash by taking the corner down from the park too fast.... Stopped nearby the cache for a quick 'breather' and let the palaton of german tourists pass, and then sweeped in for the quick find. Easy find, and all good inside, so glad for that. Thanks Glad NZ for another smilie that is close to where I work.
Find #2903. A 44km round trip from Silverstream bridge to Birchville, on the bike, collecting random caches as they appeared on the gps.
Another nicely executed cache, found between dog walkers and cyclists. SL TFTC

On a mission to grab the caches needed to reach 365 for the year, 15 to go...took the river trail down past moonshine park tonight. Nice hide quickly discovered thanks to great coordinates. TFTC
Got some funny looks from some golfers as I waited out to conduct my search awkwardly as they moved on by haha, TFTC
another one bites the dust. one would think with only 2 pockets it would be easy to locate your pen but no you'd be wrong I have to empty them every time.
Bit of a famiily catch up day to day, but time for a few caches. ManyThanks Bitsprayer.
Another quick find on this river trail, thanks again GLADNZ.
Mega Saturday, and Capperz and I have a few goals for the day. All lab caches to solve, plenty of events targeted to get to, and the most different types in a day for me. Add in that a bit of pathtag swapping (finally!), and it was pretty successful.
First mega for me, and loved the experience. Kept bumping into a few familiar faces on our travels and met a few new ones as well. We also didn’t embarrass ourselves at the quiz later on in the evening. Thanks to all COs, especially those keeping maintenance up on their caches especially for the event.

Back on the bike trail again now and same as earlier we got into a good successful routine;
Pedal - Stop - Find- Sign - Replace - Repeat.
Day 1 of the actual MEGA. It's the Saturday and both ricardinho.nz and I were awake early in our respective accommodations and keen as can be to getcon the trail nice and early. We were in the car before 0700 and breakfast at Maccas got us underway prior to a real busy day. We had a River Hutt-side cycle, the events and registration at Cossie Club earlyish before racing off to get all the details required for the Lab caches, attend a few associated events, another bike-ride along the nice and flat Hutt river-side. Finally there was a Flashmob before a 'few more' then the Geo-quiz where the upper South did nicely in a podium position - PHEW! What a day!!
The big day(s) has/have arrived. It's MEGA weekend in Wellington region and the culmination of lots of hard work by the organising committee. Also, not to be forgotten, are the caches of the local, and not so local COs, which help the game to continue and enable the enjoyment of others.
The trip has been planned for a while now and the Blenheim contingent of Ricardinho.nz and myself are coming over early on Friday morning on the Bluebridge ferry (after an early morning (non-) 'event') before returning on same mode of transport on Monday lunchtime.
We didn't manage much caching on the Friday but made up for that with 3 good days after and over 100 finds for the weekend to boost my Wellington region finds past my Nelson region ones and even giving my previously prolific Auckland numbers a 'nudge'.
Over the weekend there was plenty of socialising, sharing of ideas, opinions and interesting conversations and a podium spot for the Geosaders quiz team. Allied up with some new caching friends and remet several other rarely seen friends from other areas of the country. A good weekend all around and even the weather played nicely with a sunny outlook each of the days, without it being too warm and uncomfortable. Plenty of events attended, pleasant walks experienced, a couple of bike rides along the Hutt River as well as a smattering of GROET caches for which we were GLAD.
Thanks to all of the cache owners for their hides and listings and looking forward to the next time I visit the area to continue the enjoyment.

Found during the CITO event at Trentham Memorial Park. We weren't finding any rubbish at all along here, so turned around and headed back to the park. TFTC.
Team BOP have descended upon the Wellington region for the 2018 WENZ MEGA. We have a lot of caches to get through so there isn’t a lot of down time but it's great to meet the locals, CO’s and fellow cachers. My online logs are largely cut’n’pasted because my memory has started to blur many of my finds together so apologies for that. We’ve signed logs as ‘TeamBOP’ or individually depending on log space and time. Lastly a big Thank You to the Team - TNXPro, Davidsonclan, McJandals, NZFlossy, FapandGap & Squirrel Nutcase and to all the CO’s that made this a memorable trip
Attending the Wellington MEGA, great to visit here from the sunny Bay of Plenty, these finds have been found with my team members, which include myself, NZ Flossy, Davidson Clan, Squirrel Nutcase, FapandGap, TNXPRO and Philip.Perry and signed Team BOP. (To save room on logs) We are having a blast and gathering lots of smileys along the way. Please excuse generic logs in advance. (as I have saved the template using Cachly) Many Thanks to all you cache owners for the placements. Cheers
(# 4663). Today is the day I assigned to get the remainder of the caches required in order to complete the Bakers Dozen Challenge where one needs to get at least 50 caches per month for 13 consecutive months. A quick find. Everything in order. TFTC
Found on a ride up the River Trail on a fine and warm late winters day. The trail is a huge community asset and it was great to see the number of walkers and cyclist even on a work day. Well done WRC. And many thanks for the cache placers, a real bonus. to a few hours exercise. TFTC
I was in Upper Hutt for a road running competition and thought I might find a few geocaches as a warm up, searched around for a bit before saw it, can't believe I didn't find it faster it was right infront of my eyes
Out for a bike (electric) ride for geocaching and fresh air on a sunny winter's Tuesday afternoon.
All good here.

After a miss at #11, I soon realised this was likely to be a type of hide that I frequently have trouble with. After a couple of position changes to view things from different angles, I saw what I was after and wondered why on earth I couldn't spot it earlier.
