#230 05/10/2024 @3:48pmA bit of a theme for caches in this area. Another quick grab TFTC!
Found this cache today whilst exploring this area. I was biking up the trail with geo son and stopping to take in some of wild life around here.
Returning from the quarry park trail, decided to walk through the burbs and find a few more caches. This was one straightforward.
Not exactly the greatest day to be out caching... but at least it was dry and not too windy. I had come out to keep working on **WCW - Cache Local Mighty Challenge**... that's 200 Finds in the Whittlesea LGA. Pulled up, parked and wandered over... deja vu? Sure was... so it was a quick find. Thanks **VK3TV** for putting this cache here.
I found this cache today on my Mega Geocaching Walk #6 - A 35,000 step walk from Hawkstowe Station throughout South Morang and finishing at Middle Gorge Station. The hides at this and the previous cache were my favourites of the day. This was my most northerly cache of the day and I was now to walk down the western side before heading back to Middle Gorge. Just as I had finished at this cache, a bus arrived which brought me back down the hill to the next cache on my list and saved me about 3,000 steps. Thanks from D B-A

*Cache find # 14888.*
After the CITO event that was on earlier today, I then moved down to this area which I have been too a couple of times before but still haven't finished as I am still needing more finds in the Whittlesea LGA.
After the previous find, I went straight to the same spot and the cache was found.
**Thanks to VK3TV for keeping the game going by placing this cache.**

In Mill Park today on this glorious winters day. Better grab a cache or two. Great location for a cache and well done on the hide. TFTC
Walking back to the car after doing maintenance on two of my own caches up in the hills here. Walked back a slightly longer way to pickup this quick cache in a tranquil spot on a cold but sunny Sunday. Thanks.
I held off on logging this one because I wanted to share a story and didn't have time.
I love this hobby mainly because I get to find new and exciting places... never did I think it would help me save a life... well maybe.
I picked up this one on my way to my second job to keep my daily streak going, it was a drizzly afternoon. After finding and signing the log, off I went on my way. Just around the corner, I noticed a small object in the road and naturally avoided hitting it with my tyres (i have had one too many flats). Maybe 20 metres after sailing over it my brain kicked in. 'I think that was a turtle'. I couldn't leave it there, it had obviously strayed from the nearby creek.
I quickly did a U-turn and one of the locals saw me pulling up in front of her house thinking I was going to chat to her about the hard rubbish on the nature strip. I said, 'I think that's a turtle.' As I got closer I realised my instinct was right and started waving cars around. It was firmly in its shell but I know from an ex who owned one they have very sharp claws.
The local with the hard rubbish had a lovely young man there too and he picked the turtle up and took him safely down to the creek to live out its many days. It made my night that I, in part, saved the life of the little guy.
Swim little turtle swim!
And Thanks for the cache!

The ponds are a bit stinky at the moment due to a lack of rain, but still provided some good habitat for birds. Tftc
Found by Mary and David at 13:35. M has real estate envy here. All those water views are truly her thing. Our thanks to VK3TV.
Found on our mega tour.
November 2022. Time for the second Victorian Mega of the year. This time in Whittlesea. What is it with W's? Time for another epic road trip. Who will join our merry crew? We traveled from South Australia and camped in the pig pen. It rained. It blew. It was sunny. It was not sunny. All four seasons. Beautiful location and some awesome caches.
Warning, this hobby can be addictive. It can lead to exercise, meeting new people and finding interesting places you might not have known existed otherwise. Beware: you may have fun.

A nice find in the suburbs today, cache found and is all good
This weekend was mega weekend and we headed over with Freddo, team Waldron, e.gregory1 and Davidwazza as part of our team called: ‘Aussies on Tour’, the log books were either signed with the name, AOT or our individual caching names.
A great weekend away and a very well organised mega despite the horrible weather thrown at us we still managed to find quite a few caches
Thanks for the cache

Found while in the area to attend the Mega Event at Whittlesea.
Today I joined up with Team Waldron, Freddo, gridge98 and Davidwazza as we made our way to Whittlesea and targeted caches of interest. All caches were signed or stamped A.O.T.
Thanks VK3TV for the cache.

This weekend, it was a flight and trip down to Melbourne to attend The Whittlesea 2022 Mega Event. I arrived on Thursday evening and had accommodation in Mill Park, which was a good strategic location between Whittlesea and Melbourne. I joined a few South Aussie friends as part of the “Aussies on Tour” (AOT) team, which consisted of e.gregory1, Freddo, gridge98, and Team Waldron.
Several geocaching series were completed, which included the Commonwealth Star Series (CSS), Whittlesea Puzzles for Beginners, Whittlesea Event Gadget Trail (WEGT), Whittlesea Challenge Wander (WCW), and the Whittlesea Compass (TWC). In addition, we targeted uncommon cache types, rare/unique D-T combinations, older caches and those with high Favourite Points. It was great to have visited Victoria's two 2000 hidden geocaches too (Victoria's 1st (Melbourne's 1st) and Devil Bend).
We were treated with great weather for the first couple of days, but then it deteriorated from Saturday afternoon with rain storms and high winds overnight and on Sunday.
We took a stop at this location, and it wasn't long before we made this cache find. Having just found a nearby geocache by the CO on a bridge, it was a similar hiding position that had us make a quick find. The cache container and logbook were in good shape. This fresh logbook was stamped with our "Aussies on Tour" stamp / noted as AOT to save logbook space. Thanks VK3TV for the cache placement and ongoing maintenance.

I needed a few extra Whittlesea LGA caches so I swung by these ones a little closer to home.
A nice quick find here and the cache was in good condition.
Thanks VK3TV for adding this cache to the worldwide collection for us all to find.

After a couple of days full of fun, caching in and around Whittlesea, with Suscoe, it was time to head homeward. This is one of the caches we couldn't resist adding to our collection before the Mega crowds are out and about in November.
Thanks to VK3TV for adding this cache to the geo-gameboard.

As I expect to be spending most of tomorrow driving, I decided I needed to go for a walk, and climb a hill. And that's how I ended atop the Granite Hills by moonlight.
Parking at the footy club, I wound my way along the paths to log the cache to the south of here, then continued for a taste of deja vu.
Thanks, VK3TV

A bus driver was smoking at one end of the bridge and I had to wait for him to get back in his bus before I could start my search.
Finding the cache was easy.
Thanks for the cache VJ3TV.

Lots of ducks out this morning but not too many people want to wake up early. This makes an ideal time to go caching.
This was another easy find in the second place I looked. Thanks

I love caches near bridges and this one ticked all the boxes. Found after a short search.
Nice little walk from the from the other cache. Went off track and explored the dry creek bed, found some animal bones. Kids enjoyed the fresh air and change of scenery. Put my hand right on it TFTC
I have a sense of deja vu about this quick park and find. Cache all in good order and a nice hide. Thanks again VK3TV

Out and about tonight with Trailstevo, thought we were in for a nice easy stroll and then we found ourselves hiking up the hill to Eagle lookout. Was a great view from up there. Then strolled down through the housing estate and finished the evening off with a couple of drivebys. Thanks for the fun evening outing.
Out with Gunks. Nightcaching. Some great views and quick finds. It was my night to shine with some of them. Thanks for the caches.
Attempted to do a small caching run with the geoboys this afternoon before the showers set in - this cache was 7th on the list. The showers haven't eased since our 3rd find this arvo, so we have agreed that the rest of the caches we find today will be quick park and grabs. All the boys are back on board once again, somehow a quick dash out of the car to make a quick find is fun! Signed log in the car to keep everything dry. TFTC VK3TV.
Found with rosie_roo and her geodog, another good find in this lovely little park!
Out with xambo4u, it was a cold wet day with a little hail thrown in, but that didn’t stop us caching. A very successful day in Morang despite the weather.
This was a quick find. Love the surrounding parkland. Thanks VK3TV

Out and about with echidna44 on this very bitter cold run to the North. It even gently hailed or was it snow. I have not been to this high up before and very impressed with the area. We enjoyed our walk admiring the new housing estate. Nice easy find. Thanks for bringing us here VK3TV
We pulled up right near it and made a quick find. Thanks for the cache.

Boy this muggle area is difficult. Hard not to look like a drug dealer ..muggle city TFTC
We cached along the Yarra River in Templestowe this morning and walked 8kms. By which time the kids demanded lunch - we ended up in South Morang at the shopping centre . After lunch we spied some nearby caches and drove up this way to go for another walk. By the time we got back to the car, we'd done another 5.5kms. (We were amazed at the new road they are building through Yarrambat.... wasn't there last time we drove through the area!)
This was our last cache for the day. After this we would walk back to the car and drive home.
Little Miss was adamant that she was going to play in the park, so Middle child and I continued onto the cache whilst Mrs Plow looked after Tess, and eldest child's mobile phone looked after him!!! This location looked similar to the previous, so tried the obvious having little Miss teach me a lesson at the last cache. But nope, not there. While I was still thinking about where it could be Will had it in hand! Now I know why we bring the kids, not because of parental responsibilities but rather to find the caches!
I just read your profile , VK3TV.. I work at Telstra ..28 years so far.. hoping to get a few more, but that is looking increasingly unlikely these days!! Fingers crossed I can get to 30years!
Thanks for the caches. We will be up this way to do some more sometime in the future.

Suscoe was in the Bundoora and surrounds area today.
It was a very warm day with loads of sunshine.
32 degrees was the top temperature on the car dashboard.
Strange for mid April.
It was terrific to wander the area today and find a few caches in various locations.
Thanks to VK3TV for this hide, glad there were no folks out enjoying a walk on this warm afternoon.
All good at GZ.

Yet another quick park and grab while collecting a few smilies in the area, this one was quickly located and logged, thanks again VK3TV for the hide.
Great find on the way home! Especially good for teaching the kids to be subtle in collecting caches.
Another nice quick find as I headed northwards up the creek.
Fairly similar hide to the last one.
Cheers

A lovely area for a stroll on a sunny but cold afternoon. Thanks for bringing me here with your cache.
I'm not a huge fan of micros in such exposed areas usually, but we were about for a stroll anyway, and it wasn't a tricky find
With inclement weather forecast for later today I decided not to support the rest of the family in their sporting pursuits. Instead I decided to stay closer to home and look for some of these caches that have been published in the past few months. A very successful two hours, in between showers, I found all seven caches that I searched for.
The streets around here are quite busy with a constant stream of traffic. Where was everyone going? They were all warm and dry in their vehicles while I stood in the drizzle and looked along the drain. It took a minute or two to locate the cache but then I was able to return to my warm car.
I must revist the area when the weather is better so I can observe the birdlife.
Thank you VK3TV for this cache.

You had me down on my knees for this one and being and old bloke it was hard getting up however it's great when finding one of your hides, again left a coin for someone. Thanks VK3TV.
