We had an enjoyable walk around the wetlands today. A quick find here thanks to a glint of red. tftc
Out in the Pohangina Valley geocaching before the GIFF event this afternoon. I'm enjoying discovering the area. Fav. Pt for the development and maintenance of this Wetlands Reserve.
A small group of us from Team SEAC consisting of Keylev, Stik-A-Crane, Uncle Sam and ourselves had come down from Auckland to spend the long weekend caching in the Manawatu area. The plan was to get as many as possible. Along the way we had some great adventures, many laughs, met some interesting people and found a wide selection of caches. Signed SEAC to save space on the log. TFTC.A day out today heading up to Apiti and then back down through Pohangina. Many laughs here when Keylev jumped a mile. Enjoyed watching the piwakawaka in the trees.
Day #3 of the Team SEAC extra long weekend little road trip for Labour Weekend.Had a couple of false starts in getting on the right track to this cache. Once we got to GZ the search began. It was only after reading some logs did we realise we were looking for a bison!!! Ummmm thats tiny in this huge location. With this new info the search began again. I was so engrossed that when Mr Stik-a-Crane suddenly arrived he scared me senseless!!I continued digging and soon came up with the goods - it seemed to have been quite buried. Thanks for the cache.
UncleSamNZ and I thought Goggle maps showed us another short cut to this cache...but soon realized this was not so....ran to catch up with the others, and managed to scare poor Keylev to look like casper the ghost.....they were so focused on locating this cache..... Day 3 of our caching trip to Palmerston North area with HeMaLuDy, UncleSamNZ, Keylev, and myself, signing in as SEAC or TEAM SEAC to save logbook space. A big thanks to all the CO's for cache placement and maintenance, making this trip the success that it was.TFTC.
Small group of caching buddies drove down from Auckland for the long weekend, and headed for Palmerston North area. Sorry for the generic posts, but we had so many caches to find.Had a great time, with so many laughs. Thanks to all the Cache owners who placed the caches. This was day 3 of our trip. All logs signed "SEAC" or "Team Seac"
when visited this today it was buried and needed a bit of digging to get to it .
My new gumboots, especially brought for this outing to Pohangina came in very helpful today. The track was exceedingly muddy after all the rain recently. I had commented to HS how I was very limited in a choice of which gumboot to buy, as because of my long feet I struggle to get the boots over my ankle, Well! when I got home (after having the boots on for about 7 hours), they must have moulded to my feet. Do you think I could get them off? One came off with effort, but not the other. I hobbled over to the neighbour's to see if they could help, but obviously were still at work. About 40 minutes later (in which time my foot may have shrunk from lack of use?) I had the idea to scrape the heel against the door edging. Finally success!! Such a shame, they did a wonderful job keeping my feet dry. Anyway, thank you Madge Family for bringing us out to Pohangina.
mrs c tells me we had been here before, I don't recall but it was when it was initially a village project to beautify. Nice and peaceful here today and after fossicking at the hint GZ I uncovered the red bison on the loose!
A return back to the Pohangina Valley today with a few mini-missions planned for the day. Primarily to enjoy the turning of the Autumn leaves on the trees as this area is one of the best to view that occurence. Next up is to find some more 20/20 caches after managing to get the solved coordinates for some I missed last time. (a final assault on the last few will have to wait until a future adventure). A return to some roads, and some new ones driven. Also, do the other side of the Pohangina river Valley road, and also extend out towards Utuwai, then return again along slim dusty roads. A good day to be out, 41 finds with 7 DNFs (some were probably me, some not). Thanks to the COs for their hides and maintenance, a special mention to watcache who will soon be my 5th most prolific hider, nice one. I took small notes on all finds today, incl changes of wet/destroyed logbooks.

This is our first time coming to Pohangina so naturally this is also our first time coming to the wetlands. What an amazingly beautiful place this is!
We wandered through the wetlands until we got near to the GZ, after a quick search in the leaf litter the cache was in hand.
TFTC!

The day dawned dry and sunny, so whilst Mr Rubbishparty was at work I decided to cache near Pohangina. The wetlands are beautiful. The cache was well hidden by leaf cover, but didn’t take too long to find. TFTC
GPS is not cooperating today for some reason, managed to find it without too much searching despite the leaf litter coverage thanks to the hint! TFTC
It took a while to find this cache in the wetlands today as it was well buried in natural camouflage. TFTC
It took me a wee while but how pretty it is tftc watch out for the mozzies they are hungry right now
Thanks Madge Family for placing this cache
It was a beautiful day for a walk in the sun and surprisingly did not get wer feet.
After checking many nooks and crannies I finally struck the right one. Best approached from lower ground.

Time for a little wander to stretch the legs. We were just hoping the rain would hold off long enough, which it did, although I soon learnt that my shoes were no longer water proof.
It took a bit of rummaging in the leaf litter but we didn't take too long to find the cache.
Thanks for setting this up Madge family, the history on the cache page is very interesting .

the only one to wear gumboots made it to the nice and dry it was a little harder to do with all the leaf litter but we got there in the end thanks to tara ted TFTC
With the sun getting low in the sky we were getting to the point of finishing but decided to do this one despite the very wet conditions. I regretted not putting on my boots so soon had saturated feet. I let the others start the hunt and wandered off to approach from a different angle. On arrival they had not found the cache so I walked up to GZ and put my hand straight on it. Tftc
We're wandering around the 'wetlands' which really is wet today, but only one of us has brought gumboots. So TT and I are sloshing along with very wet feet after a day's heavy rain yesterday. In the background is the sound of gunfire from evening duck hunters, but not here thankfully. Here it's very still and cool, with sharp reflections on the water. The ducks, geese and a swan seem safe and secure here.
TT and I sent JB in his gummies to locate the cache, but we had to join him as the bison (why a bison?) was proving elusive. He searched one way and I from the other, meeting but empty handed. Fortunately TT was researching behind us and came up with the goods. This is my tenth today. We all signed the log and continued to the next cache which was a DNF. No matter, we're done. TFTC

I had already found a good number of caches today but none required a decent walk so I was glad that this one did. It was an interesting place to stretch the legs. The cache container didn't seem to be the best type to use in this type of hiding place but that didn't stop me finding it quickly.
Last find today. GPS shifting about a bit. Eventually found when I went back to the right tree.
I teamed up with ThatWeirdGuy04 and TwigNZ for a day of caching in the Pohongina Valley to work our way through the requirements for the Mystery at the Museum event. I'd looked at the Wildbore series when it first came out but hadn't had the chance to come out here and find them until now. We had a good day finding 46 caches in 8 hours between showers of rain. We signed the logs with our team initials - S T T or team STT depending on space. We were pleased with the condition most of the caches were in today so very little maintenance was required. The roads were however, rather narrow with the edge begin quite boggy so many of the caches we had to park away from and walk back.
It was a rather damp day today. The ground was wet. We were wet and tired after 8 hours of caching but we entered these Wetlands in search of 2 final caches. I imagine this would be a lovely area on a warm sunny day. Finding GZ was reasonably straight forward and the hint object was spotted. It took a few circles by all of us before the cache was spotted.

Today I was out caching with my son ThatWeirdGuy04 and one of my regular caching friends Stardust718, with the aim of travelling around the Pohangina Valley to attempt as many caches as we could manage in our day, concentrating on the Wildbore series but also stopping for any others along the way or else caught our fancy.
All logs for today were signed at either "Team S.T.T" or else simply "S.T.T" as space on logsheets allowed. The weather forecast had not been the best for today, but we set of in the hope that there would be enough dry spells or at least breaks in the rain to allow us to collect enough caches to be able to complete the Mystery at the Museum event currently running through Groundspeak. After about 8 hours of caching we had collectively found 46 caches, with a further 7 DNF's, which was sufficient to enable my son and I to complete MATM.
By this time, we were all a bit tired and a little weather-beaten, but still we made our way to GZ, and after a few circuits of the suspected GZ Stardust found the cache. I'm not sure why it was thought that a micro would be appropriate for this location, when there was so much scope for a much larger container. But the cache was in fine condition so the log was duly signed and the whole thing replaced exactly as found.
Thanks for placing this cache.

This cache was a bit of an enigma to me as it was released a few hours after i had just returned from an earlier visit to the wet lands and it no doubt was already in place and i must have gone right past it. but at least on this visit i could locate it and now claim it
A bit of a late log .. I took a friend up to the wet lands and she really enjoyed the natural-ness of the site. we saw two white sulphur crested parakeets there also and they were very noisy!-aussie of course! Took some photos as well .

Located 30 caches in the Ashhurst-Pohangina region on a “day out” caching today. Enjoyed the short walk to this one which was a quick find once I got to GZ. #2550. TFTC.
Thanks Madge Family for bringing us in for a walk in this wetlands. We had no idea they were so extensive, and well worth a visit. Quite a lot of birdlife around this afternoon. Was surprised how small the container is, this location deserves something bigger!
For my personal challenge of working towards getting my calendar on GC.COM to be at least the same shade of green or darker I need to sign off at least 8 caches today. I won't grumble if I find one or two more I decided to come back to Pohangina to finish what I had started yesterday.
I had to wait for the lawnmower man to finish mowing the road verge before going for the caches in the Wetlands. What a great place.
Cheers for the cache.

Called here on a day drive from Wellington to find some more of the caches in the region. A quick find for this one although it took a couple of circuits before I spotted it.. Signed log, thanks for the cache and the interesting bits of history!
Yay! Found it! Tricky again. We are new to this geocaching thing! Thanks for the fun!
21 January 2019 09:30. This one took a fair bit of finding, eventually located by systematically going through alll of the possible options, Tftc
#10,499. A return visit to Pohangina. GZ was all quiet at the time of our visit. Took a bit of searching. Managed to find the cache in the end … about 6 metres away from where the GPS was pointing to. The cache was in excellent condition, all nice and dry inside. Took nothing, left nothing, signed log.

bit of a geocaching weekend for us and at times we joined forces with other teams so logs have been signed either 2 Bulbars, 2x, bwx depending on how many in the team had signed the log before.
The weekend started midday Friday and finished about 6 pm sunday. We didn't go too hard and stopped for sleeps and good meals basing ourselves in Feilding . The weather was good all weekend although it did rain a little bit at night.
Many thanks to all the COs who placed these caches making it possipble for us to enjoy our hobby.
I must say sorry for all the cut and paste but if we really enjoyed a cache I will add a bit at the start of the comment so you don't need to read right through.
Thanks to our driver who supplied the car and the good person who put a thermos and a few snacks in the car for us so we could keep our strength up

Road trip time! This weekend Team BOP consisted of Davidson Clan, TNXPro, Squirrelnutcase, FapAndGap, McJandals, NZFlossy & myself. We'd had this trip on the cards for a while but only recently had we locked in all the details. We were off to central Manawatu and we had a very narrow list of ‘must gets’ so this trip was essentially a numbers mission. We had a great time and managed just over 200 finds. Most of the caches were found quickly and in good condition thanks to accurate coords and straight forward placements although we replaced a lot of logs and a few containers as well. A huge thank you to the CO’s as this was a beautiful area to visit and there was certainly an abundance of geocaches!!
This spot was a bit of a maze at night but with all our torches we managed to get in and out. Cheers Madge Family.

Team BOP on tour in the Manawatu-Whanganui Region... With Gap (of Fap and Gap), (Mr) Davidson clan, McJandals, NZFlossy, Philip.Perry, and TNXPro.
This weekend had been in the pipeline for ages. It was always going to be a mission for various team members to get coordinated leave passes... We secured accommodation in the rural heart of the Manawatu. This placed us well within reach of a massive trail of caches... We travelled in one vehicle, so our journey was filled with lots of laughs, and good times... Fortunately, the majority of caches were in place and were fairly quick to locate - thanks to straightforward hints and great coordinates. Many of the caches had not been found in a while, so containers were waterlogged, and logbooks were wet... Thank goodness for waterproof paper. A huge thank you also, to the various COs who made our weekend worthwhile...
It was quite a challenge to find a way in, especially in the dark... TFTC.

Team BOP decided that with the MEGA rapidly approaching, we need to boost our numbers so we could try for a milestone number at the Mega. I am approaching my 3000th cache but was still about 325 caches away from that. Reaching the milestone may or may not happen, but this weekend certainly was about the numbers. I had an initial target I was trying to beat and that was my highest number of caches found in one day and we comfortably beat that, achieving 158 caches (subject to confirmation, once I log them all).
The best way to do the high numbers is with power trails and out here, there is a smorgasborg of powertrails.
We loaded up the van, gathered up all seven of us and headed to our accomodation somewhere in the middle of nowhere, getting there well after dark. The location was convenient, as it was right in the thick of a power trail territory.
There was no splitting us up, as we only had one vehicle, so we all experienced the cache locations, some beautiful and some not so.
As with powertails we have done in the past, there was a high proportion of waterlogged caches, but unlike powertails we have done previously, we managed to find every cache and were glad to be able to clear out an area. Also, with powertails, comes cut and paste logs, to which I apologise for.
Thanks to all those CO's who have placed the caches out there. Without you, our fun road trips wouldnt exist. We all had a thoroughly enjoyable weekend and got home completely shattered. It was so worth it.

a day out collecting all the wildbore caches that have been popping up around here, the rain was off and on and we took most of the day but well worth the drive and the great history of the area. - thanks for taking the time to give us some great inside to the area and of course the caches
- nice quick find at gz, not so busy with wildlife here today but a lovely place to visit

It is too lovely a winter’s day to stay inside at home so after a few quick chores this morning, I decided to head back up Pohangina Valley to collect a few more of the Wildbore series.
I haven’t visited these wetlands in the past and I had a lovely walk around most of the ponds spotting ducks and pukekos as I went. A quick find at the gz and it’s back around another loop to the car. TFTC

Lovely walk around the wetlands today, thankfully the rain held off while we went for a stroll. Took longer than expected to have cache in hand - but we got there in the end. Signed as rr&jj. TFTC.
Out with ritaryanandjj knocking off some more Wildbore caches. Twin 1 & 2 enjoyed a leisurely piggy back ride through this cool area. Love caching away from public view. TFTC
What better thing to do on this beautiful, fine, mild winter day than go up into our beloved Pohangina Valley and do some geocaching?
So we packed up a picnic and off we set, our sights on 12 Wildbore caches we had yet to find. Well we found 10, and enjoyed our peaceful day in the valley with it's lovely vistas of terraces, hills and valleys, snowy mountain backdrop, trees and birds - bliss.
This was cache #2 for us today and Mrs G was glad she had finally got around to buying herself some gumboots. They really do need to be part of one's geocaching kit and certainly were good to have in this wetland area.
The wetlands were looking particularly lovely in the sunlight today - well laid out, full and flourishing. We enjoyed the walk to the cache site, trying to put our unhappy Wildbore 22 experience behind us. Unlike that one the find here was a very straightforward one, with a helpful hint too. TFTC

Was in the Manawatu for work and since I was there I decided that I might as well check the GPSr and see if there were any caches around that were still up for grabs.
Noticed that there were still 3 caches in this series that have being published but have yet to be found, so decided to work on a plan of attack as to what to do.
After a DNF on GC7TYYD - Wildbore 22, we decided that since we were in the area and we were only 45 metres away from this cache we might as well go and check out this cache and see if we could find it or not. The walk to GZ really didnt take long and we were soon at GZ, we were lucky that we had good light even though I had to give my best lighting option to another cacher . Arriving at GZ I circled the hint object and noticed that there was so many hiding spots, so after a quick search it was time to do a more intensive search and once I found a likely spot that I was happy with I soon managed to track down the needle in a haystack. Not quite the type of cache that I would have hidden here, but it could have being worst.
Managed to retrieve the cache, signed and then replaced the cache back where we found it. Thanks Madge Family for placing this cache here and for bringing me to this spot, TFTC TNLNSL (13698). A great spot for a cache, have driven pass here numerous times but havent being in here before.
Decided to go and search a bit further and see if we could narrow down this multicache but time was limited so it was time to move on.

We decided to go for a drive with Yeetrees to find a cache or two this was a lovely walk on the dark we all had our torches and cell phone lights going. A but harder to hunt in the dark but it wasn't long before Yeetrees had it in his hand we signed the log and placed it back where we found it. Cache was all good I was surprised with the type of cache placed as it was. But that's geocaching getting the unexpected. Thank you for placing a cache here now to head for home as time is getting on
Nice find on a day out geocaching with woolwood9.
Ground a bit soft and wet but not too bad, we enjoyed the short walk.
