I first came to Mount Painter early in my geocaching career. I brought my then-teenage kids up here to get Canberra's oldest geocache in July 2013. I loved the views then, and I love them still. Thanks, SpatialRiq, for an excuse to revisit this gorgeous location!
I visited this cache, with Weirdobiker, while we were in town for the Mega event at easter.Of course we did the walk on a hot day, but it made the experience more enjoyable, when we had completed the trek. The views were stunning as we caught our breath before continuing along to some other caches in the park. Thanks for bringing us here, SpatialRiq.
Day 23 of my interstate trip. Today was my first full day in Canberra I went to Mount Painter then just made my way around checking out a few Museums as well as a few caches along the way.. I managed to find 18 caches today and no DNF's.An early start and hike up here today but well worth the trip to the top.TFTC SpatialRiq
Nice hike to the top of this picturesque peak, and was very interesting to learn something about Canberra's volcanic past!Answers have been sent to the CO. TFTC!
Pwala sent the answers for us, I've enjoyed seeing many places as well as the warm weather. Here's one to find today.Thank you for placing the cache SpatialRiq.
Nice views. answers sent, logging with approval. Nice location. I am glad it was on the cooler side, not the hotter side today. Only a large mob of kangaroo's spotted on the walk today. fav point. We kept walking to get ACT's oldest cache. Found with Mogni. Myself and mogni are headed off to Canberra on the " I missed the Capital GeoBash Mega " holiday, since last minute family problems came in to play and we had to adjust our plans by a few weeks. On the way over we targeted multi's, wherigo's and puzzles to make sure we had 25 in each or at least close to that total ( or more ) as possible, getting as many new New South Wales LGA's as possible, the 17th most favorite point NSW cache and every cache size in New South Wales. In the ACT it was getting 2 of the 5 oldest letterboxes, oldest wherigo in Australia, 2nd oldest earthcache ( with a side trip to get the oldest earthcache of course ), and ACT oldest cache too. I also hosted a CITO and planned on getting every different cache type i could and every different cache size as well. I also needed 9 more virtuals this trip to get my virtual count over 100. Finally Canberra was far enough away from from house to complete the well aged well travelled cacher 0 to 1000 kms with a cache every 10 km's ( i only need 7 more caches to complete )Leaving the ACT it was going via Victoria to get there last active web cam cache and slowly getting a total of 20 finds in each LGA i passed through if i had enough time plus also hosting a CITO in Victoria as well. A busy 11 days. Trust me by the end of the holiday you would have thought the 6 meter ladder weighed more than 13 kg's to amount of times it was used or carried up hills or over creeks. If your cache was found with a broken container/lid it was replaced or if the log was full it was replaced or a extra log if the container was big enough ( except for nano's, do your own maintenance on nano's.
Day 5 of mogni and sir_spectre visit the ACT. Today was a mixed bag, old caches, letterbox, trad and wherigo and hunting letterboxes, more multies and stamping challenges as we passed and of course targetting favourite caches, oh and what everelse we happened upon. As per normal if a cache needed a bit of love, it got it. Lots of micro logsheets added today. Thanks to SpatialRiq from mogni
Very foggy morning so not much of a view. Here with the Roos-bdp, Kimmy533, drobbonz, and kiwisteve2That hike up the mountain got my heart a pumping.
Answers sent and permission to logI was in Canberra for the geobash mega and decided to collect the caches on Mount Painter after missing out on a spot on the official geobash tour. Crustyvamint and I headed off on quite a warm day as I was particularly keen to find Canberra's oldest cache which was nearby. It was a beautiful view from the trig point and there were a lot of kangaroos about at the top.
Weve been in Canberra for nearly two weeks and this afternoon I realised I still hadnt found the oldest cache in the A.C.T. Since were leaving in 2 days, and I am going to be busy tomorrow, I decided to dash out and finally climb Mt Painter to fix this omission. There were a surprising amount of muggles out exercising but I managed to find every hide I wanted to without any problems.Answers sent. Thanks for find #6098TNLN
Climbed up Mt Painter yesterday to collect the stash of caches up there. This was one of them. Collected info and have sent to CO. Great views of all directions over the city and beyond. Well worth the walk. TFTEC.
Found by The Empire + HOn our way to claim the oldest cache in Canberra! Setting foot on the trail, we were immediately enveloped by the tranquility of nature. Surrounded by native flora and fauna, the sounds of birdsong and rustling leaves accompanied our ascent, creating a serene backdrop for our journey.Mount Painter in Canberra boasts a geological tapestry that unfolds like a storybook, revealing millions of years of Earth's history etched into its rugged facade. As we traversed its slopes, we marveled at the intricate layers of rock and the fascinating geology that shaped this iconic landmark. The mountain's geological makeup is a testament to the forces of nature that have been at work for eons. Composed primarily of sedimentary rocks, Mount Painter's layers tell a tale of ancient oceans and shifting tectonic plates. Over millions of years, these layers were formed through the deposition of sediment, gradually building up the mountain's bulk. But Mount Painter's story doesn't end there. The mountain bears the scars of volcanic activity, with evidence of igneous intrusions and thermal metamorphism scattered throughout its rocky terrain. These volcanic forces, originating from deep within the Earth's crust, left their mark on the landscape, shaping the mountain into the majestic peak we see today.Reaching the summit of Mount Painter was a moment of triumph, marked by a sense of accomplishment and wonder. From this vantage point, we gained a newfound perspective on the landscape below, marvelling at the intricate patterns of urban development and the untouched wilderness that coexisted in harmony. Thanks for the earthcache SpatialRiq, answers sent.-MEarthcache #428
Here with the Roos (bdp, No 1 Gardengirl, kiwisteve2 and Kimmy533). We enjoyed our walk up Mt Painter in the fog this morning. TfTC
Over here for Capital GeoBash Mega now concluded. Lovely views from here. One of many cache finds all over the city - my last day down here, TFTC
Found while staying in Canberra for the Mega event. SpatialRiq, thank you so much for placing it for everyone to enjoy and highlighting this area. ??
Tftc it was a very foggy day when we completed this. Could not see the view which was a shame. Last day of the Mega event. Out with The Roos
Found as part of the Geobash 'Canberra's First Geocache' tour with Toy Hunters as our guide. Our group found this as EMMM (Easter Monday morning mob). Toy Hunter has kindly submitted answers. Thanks SpatialRig for setting up this Earthcache, it was an amazing location with a great view.TFTC
Well it is Canberra Geobash Mega time and Im spending 6 nights up here on the Mega site and also the ACT has put on some brilliant weather for us so far during the day.Well it is day 4 for me and it was a very fresh and chilly start to the morning for the 5am event.Back to the Mega site for a coffee then I was going to start with finding a few Virtuals for a challenge cache.Left site as the sun was coming up to beat the crowds.I spent a fair bit of the morning around the lake and surrounds collect Virtuals and others but now its time to trek up a mountain to find a few more.So Mt Painter is the place to be and Im after Canberras first cache. When I finally made my way to the top I ran into one of the tour groups while they were having morning tea.Said my hellos and now onto the next bit.I read a few of the information signs, looked a quite a few rocks and took some snaps as well.Magnificent views from up here.Answers have been sent to the CO.A fav goes out to you for bringing me up here. Thanks SpatialRiq TFTEC.
We went up early in the morning with The Roos (drobbonz, no1gardengirl, kiwisteve2, kimmy533 and bdp). It was foggy as all get out so couldnt see anything.Note to self. Dont do the cross country route, terribly spooky in the fog but we only had limited time before heading out.Kimmy533 sent the answers and drobbonz posted a pic. Thanks for education!

Found this during my visit to the Canberra Mega. I had lots of fun either caching solo or with others and this was one we found. Signed as Lillieb05 or Lillian thanks to self correct and my badge calling me Lillian. Thanks for putting these caches out and making it a fun weekendSent through the answersTFTC
Enjoyed my walk up Mt painter with lillieb05 during the Canberra mega. Main aim was to grab Canberra's oldest cache, but also managed an adlab, trad, and this earthcache. Answers sent by lillieb05.
Did the climb up this morning with xrocketx, Gcoven and chamad. Originally we were only going for the old cache, and I was waiting down the bottom as I had already found it some years ago. Bumped into another cacher who was going for the Earthcache only, we had a chit chat, she was not aware of the oldest near here and I was not aware of the Earthcache so we each made a detour, caught up to my companions as they were coming back and we decided that the loop was a good idea and venture up to the top to complete the Earthcache (answers sent by xrocketx), and once done we worked our way down the hillside collecting advanture labs and caches before heading back to the car.
Massive caching days continue. My online logs do not match with days found simply because I cant keep up with online logging sorry. My alliance of 5 all from WA are three young fit boys and two less young ladies who try to keep them honest. We have been up trees and ladders way more than I like and, like all geocachers who insist on wearing shorts in hot weather, our legs are ripped to shreds from hiking. Logging WAC since the three boys usually cache with a fourth called the Cockburn Crew based on their LGA. Having an almost totally cleared map locally, its difficult to explain the excitement of having a map that has caches literally everywhere. Ive cached in Canberra once with my partner and also at the Queanbayen mega but theres still so many to find. Long days and during the few hours allocated to sleep Im so sore I barely sleep anyway. Thanks so much for your contribution to making the days so exhausting and enjoyable. Much appreciated!
An amazing climb to the top.Just climbed up this gigantic landform to bump into some other cacher and they asked if I was going to do Canberras oldest geocache!Muggins here had set the list for Earth Caches only Now a change of plans and all the caches were found up here. Thanks for the amazing Earth Cache.Another trip across the Nullarbor and we have finally made it!!Our trek to the Capital Geobash in Canberra, from our home town of Busselton, WA, via a few minor deTours.Where we wander, the places we go, the people we meet always make for an amazing adventure while we geocache.A big thanks to the COs for making our journey all the more interesting TETEC
We are visiting the GeoBash from Canada. This was as a beautiful hike with some lovely close-ups to Kangaroos (a treat for us!). Thank you for introducing us to the area. Answers have been sent. TFT
Today I managed to do a few Adventure lab caches and then take a hike to an old cache, well it is Canberra's first. I had some fun with Jacs, Gcoven and Rocket for the morning treks. It was nice to have a quieter day as the amount of tree climbs and walking was starting to take its toll, I could sense the tide in my body picking up earlier each day. Having said that I still got in a few good caches, went on a walk along with a few more tree climbs. The walk around to this old cache did incorporate a few extra caches of the area. Including the adventure lab which was nice, an earth cache a couple of trads and a couple of puzzle caches. Yes a nice walk around and some fantastic views today. Thanks to all the CO's for the caches placed around here. we signed the logs and returned all as found. i was told answers were sent as a group for this cache.
Walked up Mt Painter for a variety of newer and older caches around the middle of the day. Quite popular up here, not just with cachers during then MEGA event. Had a break near the trig beacon and made some notes. Interesting earth cache and a great view in all directions from up here. Thanks for organising this earthcache and greetings from north Queensland.
30/03/2024 7:45:00 PMScouter 101 and headed up the hill around sunset and after finding the ACT's first cache we stopped by here to check out the rocks, as an avid amateur vulcanologist, Ii was delighted to learn of another type of igneous rock. Thanks SpatialRigFind recorded using GCDroid and logged using GSAK
My target for the day was Canberra's oldest, but who can resist an EarthCache on the top of a mountain? Answers were sent after finding the correct info boards. Cheers!
Part of the Sandgroper contingent that has come to the Mega to explore new hunting grounds. Its sure to be a great week with many finds and laughs with lots of great friends and maybe some new ones along the way. Thank you for placing this cache for our enjoyment. Logged as WA6
Heading for a few choice finds before the Mega. What an amazing spot... well worth the climb and so pleased we opted for an early morning attempt! Answers coming shortly and photo will follow with WiFi later.
A weekend of caching, labing, laughter, fun, and adventure with my great mates The Rats and Steeba. Just want I needed! A weekend like this is good for the soul.We headed from Wollongong to the Canberra Mega, via many caches and Labs along the way. We had a 48 hour early Easter window of opportunity that we needed to exploit! As always the banter was excellent, and the caching secondary to that. We found a lot of excellent caches, and this boiler plate log should not detract from them in any way.Thank you to all of the cache hiders, and the event committee.Cheers

Exciting times over the next couple of weeks as we takeoff for the Capital GeoBash in Canberra! Its going to be a flood of Sandgropers over east, with a host of West Aussies making the trek east for the event. Im travelling with fellow Cockburn Crew members Leg5 and Barnzy12, starting in Sydney and hitting the road to Canberra, before returning back to Sydney. Honourary mention to our fellow member, Cravo10, who couldnt make it after recently introducing a new geocacher to the world the week prior. Once in Canberra, the agenda is set, well team up with a host of Western Australians to conquer caches. Collectively, were hoping to make it the biggest ever weekend for cache finding. Following the event, the journey continues back to Sydney, with a mission to clean up caches and new Local Government Areas (LGAs), ensuring no cache is left unturned in this epic geocaching adventure. Something tells me that well need a holiday after this, well, holiday. All logs have been signed as WAC to save space, abbreviation for Western Australia Crew. Cheers SpatialRiq! The Cockburn Crew are on tour at the Capital Geobash in Canberra - travelling from Perth to Sydney, Canberra, Sydney and finally back to Perth.Today was day 2 and we had an absolute blast. After being up late last night we backed it up again this morning with an early start to make the most of the cooler weather and lack of muggles in the morning cold. We completed a huge number of trails, challenges, whereigos, traditional, multis, earthcaches, labs, virtuals and puzzles. It really was a great day for variety. We enjoyed the large number of virtuals, and caching in territory we havent been before. Weve filled our boots with some of the oldest caches in Australia, some rare DTs and DTTs and generally had a great time. Thanks to the COs for a great day and event. Logs signed as part of team WAC (WA Crew)

Apparently, today's tour leader, Toy Hunters, has a reputation for giving a darn good tour. I have to agree with that reputation after experiencing today's adventure. I mean, any tour that ends with Queen being blasted has to be great, right? There were a lot of folks in our group so we signed all the caches as CFG1. Answers have been sent in for the group. We hiked up, we hiked down, we saw kangaroos with joeys, and beautiful views along the way. And we found all the caches that we looked for as well as an Adventure Lab. It was a grand adventure. Many thanks to Toy Hunters and my fellow tour members. Thank you for the smiley and the fun!The day:Today was day 2 of my time in Canberra for the GeoBash Mega from the U.S. and getting to spend time with my friends. Hooray! It was another day that started with a an awesome tour and then I met up with a friend I made in New Zealand who was also in town for the event. How fun is that?!?Many thanks to all the geocachers who placed and continue to maintain their geocaches for folks like me to find. I know it's not always easy, but know that I appreciate you.

I have been looking forward to this 1st Canberrs Tour walk. I was not really sure what to expect and as I am not exactly in peak condition I was hoping that I wouldn't hold anyone back. But I did the whole walk without a problem, and stayed close to the front most of the way, only held back by the photographer in me.....lol.....the views were amazing and caches great. So glad I did it. Our tour guide Scott 'ToyHunter' was fantastic. Signed as CFG1 to save space. TFTEC Toyhunters sent answers through for the whole tour.

I completed this earthcache while attending the Mega event in Canberra over Easter.Today I teamed up with FeatherWaite, Team Waldron, gridge98, CourtneyRose, Freddo, E.Smiley, georode and Davidwazza. Logs were signed ABP to save time and space on the logsheets. It was a productive day, focusing mainly on caches of interest, with an emphasis on the Virtual caches and a couple of older ones. The weather was fine and quite warm, in contrast to some of the other times Ive been in Canberra over Easter. Thanks SpatialRiq for an interesting earthcache.
Ran into two WA cachers while on the hill and then sent my answers to another WA cacher!!Great geology and lots of Roos!Travelled from Sydney to Canberra today mostly picking up new LGAs. once we got to Canberra, it was only about finding Canberras first. So glad we did but the kangaroos were less impressed.SpatialRiq, I found Mount Painter today. Thanks for improving the geological knowledge of the geocaching community.
The third day in Canberra and surrounds for the OzMega Geobash across the Easter weekend.Made my way to the event location for the first time today and enjoyed some of the festivities there throughout the morning. The afternoon was filled caching all over the place with a high priority placed on older caches to help fill Jasmer grids.Another day filled with an amazing variety of cache types and containers were located and with a large group the competition to get hands on the log first was high, with plenty of laughs along the way too. Thanks SpatialRiq for placing Mount Painter for me and others to find.I added my name to the log at 15:48 on 29/3/2024.This is find number 8520 for me.

The Adelaide Leap Day Mega and Canberra Geobash gave us a great excuse for a road trip. This trip has shown us so many new and interesting places as weve chased LGAs, oldies, challenges, interesting D/T combinations, rarer cache types and favourites.Meeting up with friends old and new along the way, we sometimes cached together and sometimes alone but always had a great time. Today we took a drive out from Yass to Canberra. We started with a hike up Mt Painter, a great way to start the morning. We were greeted at the start by some friendly horses and then near the summit by a large mob of kangaroos. After persuading them to let us pass to find a cache, we took some photos before descending back to the car. From there we set out to collect a long list of challenge caches and anything else that caught our eye. English????We are 4 Norwegians on a trip to Australia and New Zealand. We arrived in Melbourne at the beginning of February and are traveling home after the mega event in Adelaide.?????????? We travel by car and Geocaching helps us discover many nice places and often helps to decide where we choose the route between our goals which are: Sydney, Melbourne, Auckland, Dunedeen, and Adelaide.?????? This is one of the caches we found on the trip and we thank you for showing us this place. We who are on tour have the nicknames: MrVonsr, ingsve, EllenSch. And signs the logs with N3????Great thanks for showing us and doing our tour wonderful ????
Out on a geocache trip with Ellen Sch , Team Eika and ingsve on holiday in Australia, and today it was this area that was prioritized If nothing else is mentioned, we found the cache at good coordinates and it was fine To save space in the log, we often log in with the nickname N4 Many thanks to CO for laying out and maintaining this Greetings from Norway TFTCUte p en geocache-tur med Ellen Sch,Team Eika og ingsve p ferien i Australia og idag var det dette omrdet som ble prioritert Hvis ikke annet er nevnt s fant vi cachen p gode koordinater og den hadde det braFor spare plass i loggen logger vi ofte med nick N4Tusen takk til Til CO for utlegg og vedlikehold av denne Hilsen fra Norge TFTC
Cachehilsen fra Ellen Sch, NorgeMe and MrVon sr have come down to Australia and New Zealand, -an old dream has finally come to an end. Team Eika and Ingsve have also traveled with us on this trip.We have been traveling cross-country for a month, and the goal is to end up in Adeleide and mega-event on the leap year. We have especially looked for old caches, to fill jasmer'n, for a couple of pieces, and for the other two of us who have started to think about reviewing more. The vast majority of them showed up at their places, sometimes we had to search a bit, but we were usually lucky in the end. There were also some DNFs.We have mostly logged in with the common nickname N4 (ingsve, Von sr. TeamEika and Ellen Sch), but our own nicknames are also used.A big thank you to all you CO's for laying out and maintaining your caches. Without their work, we would never have been able to make a living with this hobby.Always nice to have a new smiley face on the map.Cache greetings from Ellen Sch, Norway
As a once in a lifetime holiday, this year we are traveling for 7 weeks to Vietnam, Bali, Australia and New Zealand. In Australia we meet Ellen Sch and MrVon sr and Ingsve to visit these last two countries, so here we cache together. We signed the log with N4. Now we have solved many caches so we have a large number of solved coordinates. But we are interested in all types of caches, so if you receive a log, it means that we have visited your cache. We haven't quite decided where we're going, but we'll probably let the weather decide for us. We want warmth because in Norway it is now freezing. We will stay for about 2 weeks in Australia and 2 weeks in New Zealand and we will end the trip with the Mega event in Adeleide on 29 February. So thank you very much to all of you who make it possible for us to travel around finding caches. On March 6, we set course for Norway again. There are extremely nice people everywhere and we are welcomed, we thank you very much. Thanks to our cache friends for good company on the trip. Now has Ellen Sch, MrVon sr and Insve started on their jurney home to Norway so we now sign logs with our nick.

Something special or unusual goes here:A wonderful trek up Mt. Painter today where we were greeted by an earthcache on Earthcache Day! Answers collected and sent to the CO and many pictures of the view taken. Thanks for bringing us up here. FP awarded. The Generic Bit:Both Bri and Sal are on the road for a holiday. [^] Holiday - Not a caching trip. This means if we are stopping for a rest, lunch, dinner or to see something whilst on holiday and there just happens to be a cache nearby then maybe Bri can go and try to find it. Maybe. Day 5: Today we went back to the War Memorial. We did a guided tour yesterday which took all the time so today we went to see what we had missed yesterday. Up to the now closed Telstra Tower on Black Mountain for a picnic lunch. Onto the Dinosaur Museum and back to Mt. Painter for the must do oldest cache. That certainly got the steps and heartrate up! Managed to grab a few caches as well,**SAs Leap Year Event GCA1DNA - keep the date free - 29th February 2024. - BOING*****Thanks SpatialRiq for putting out this cache and maintaining it for our enjoyment. *** Logs prepared and published through GSAK.
