2824 - Well I learnt a few things when doing this Earthcache - the first and most surprising one, was that the dam here wasn't named after the former "Minister of Everything". I also learnt more about how dams are constructed and then extended of course. I grabbed the information I needed whilst visiting the dam area, and grabbing a couple of other caches including the Adventure Lab here. It was a pleasant walk and I appreciate the time and effort that has been put into creating and maintaining this Earthcache, my favourite kind of cache. Answers have been submitted to the cache owner as required, thanks igotahunch.
TFTC Visiting relatives in QLD. Walked from our accommodation to the Hinze Dam. Answers have been forwarded.
Out today visiting Hinze Dam. Completed the AL and then completed the questions for this earthcache. Beautiful day. Good friends and lots of geology and understanding another rocks existance and purpose. Thanks igotahunch. All good with this earthcache .
Enjoyed an interesting walk along the dam wall. Thanks for the earthcache igotahunch
A perfect place for a family stroll on a cooler pleasant day. Made even more enjoyable by picking up and few caches along the way and learning more about how dams are constructed.
I remember seeing big Russ on the tv in the southern states. Good mates and possibly more corrupt than sirjoe who was nominated for PM... Imagine that. It's a shame this dam wasn't named after big Russ it kind of matches his size....
Out for a Wednesday Wander with 1MinnieMoo to clear a few of our mutual unfound caches in the area.We were completing the AL in the area and found the answers along the way. Answers sent to CO.TFTC igotahunch
We did the research while at the Hintz Dam today on one of our regular visits here whenever we visit the Gold Coast. Definitely one of our favourite places. Researching Earthcaches is always fun and we always learn so much about the world around us.
In all our travels we would not have even thought to travel to this location. (HaHa). In your dreams, these cachers do. [:(!] Thanks for an awesome effort. Devilish Brilliant and Clever I like it Another one off the list TTBLNSL TFTC/TFTH/TFBUH - I Got a Haunch [^]
I completed this earthcache as I headed home to Adelaide after the QOGM events around Longreach. The plan was to be away for about a month. I travelled up to Longreach via Broken Hill, Cunnamulla, Charleville and Barcaldine, camping and finding caches of interest along the way. I intend to head home via Brisbane and the NSW coast to Sydney, then across to Adelaide. However my plans are pretty loose and subject to change, often on a whim! The weather so far has been good, albeit a little warm at times. I am hoping it stays that way for the rest of the trip.I have had to be quite selective with the caches I have found as there are so many that I am passing. As a result I have mostly targeted non-traditional cache types, although I have also grabbed a few Trads opportunistically here and there. Thanks igotahunch for an interesting earthcache, which has contributed to an interesting and enjoyable trip.
What a wonderful area. So much to see and do. We saw heaps of wildlife, including a snake and kangaroos. I highly recommend coming here.
Stopped in here on the way up to springbrook. Enjoyed lunch at tnt Cafe and a walk around to see some sights.

What a huge dam I remember my dad driving us around here before the places were flooded and the little towns were gone. Some lovely old houses and below this dam. I also remember that this was named after a huge man in size too. Walking around here today and collecting the information required there were a lot of people along walking the dam wall as well, seems to be a very popular place.
With my answers sent off, I am now logging this as a find. Thanks for bringing me here I really enjoyed the cache and the other caches in the area.

A lovely day spent around this area with Kolour and chamad collecting caches as we went. We stopped at the Dam, I have never been here before, it is such a great facility, very busy with tourists which surprised me.
I have sent my answers to the CO.

Dropped in to see Big Russ while having a spare hour after attending a wedding rehearsal. Was accompanied by 3 muggles who were happy for me to collect the answers to this EC but not search too long for the few caches hidden in the area.
First time visitor to this spot which is surprising with my working background. Will have to return for the other caches. Answers forwarded to the CO for confirmation.

Whilst exploring the Hinze Dam I gathered hopefully enough info for this cache. Answers have been forwarded. TFTC
My daughter took me up to the dam today, my first visit there. A really lovely, peaceful location - and quite quiet mid-week in overcast weather. Will definitely come back on a sunny day and enjoy more of the area. Have sent my answers to the CO, and hope at least some are correct . Thanks for the earthcache.
On our Australia trip we visited also the famous Hinze Dam. Yep - this is our first EC in Australia.

An earthcache for earthcache weekend souvenir. I have been out here many times. My first few visits were before the current wall was built. The mountain bike trails around here were pretty good in the 1990s and I have raced around areas that are now well under water.
The dam was looking pretty full and with more rain forecast it will be very near the spillway overflow soon.
The information centre was closed, so I took a quip dip in the surf for the answers that I sent to the CO.
Thanks for bringing me out here without my bike.

Having been for a damn fine walk earlier today, our little group (myself, oz_bean_counter, peanut209, 1MinniMoo and Captain Terror) reconvened for another dam good walk including to here. A very interesting set of questions that I had no idea about before hand - I love learning new stuff. Answers sent by 1MinniMoo on our collective behalfs.

Loved exploring the dam wall today with the crew after tackling Pages Pinnacle. Full of energy and laughter, we set out to grab this earth cache and the other trads in the area. Answers have been sent by 1MM. Many thanks igotahunch for this great eartcache - I never would have understood the role of clay if it weren't for this cache .
24/4/21 Find #4757
Today a small group of friends set off on an adventure. Pprime, oz_bean_counter, peanut209, Captain Terror and I met up with Herbz and their friend Miyuki to hike Page’s Pinnacle.
With that complete, we said farewell to the latter parties and continued our merry way to the Hinze Dam for a glorious stroll along the top of the Dam wall. While here we checked out this Earthcache.
I honestly never knew anything about the different types of dams, and the materials used until now. About all I did know was the reasons for having dams but I can also say I’ve never seen one of similar construction to the Hinze Dam. It is super impressive how this one is open along the top for people to actually enjoy, the dam is quite impressive, and the surrounding scenery really very beautiful. And it’s great to see so much water here at the moment.
Of course, it also helps when you are with great company too.
Thanks for the Earthcache igotahunch.

A great day out exploring the area with Davidwazza! TFTC! Answers sent in with Davidwazza!
Today, [@jesswrigley](http://coord.info/PRNW59T) and I had planned a hike in Springbrook National Park. We descended into Waringa Pool and Purling Brook Falls, and were lucky to get a car park given how many people were enjoying Easter Friday today. A great little walk followed by a nearby lunch. We then scoped out the Tweed Caldera at Best of All Lookout.
On our return home, and given the recent heavy rain, we made a stop off at Hinze Dam, and greeted by the significant water release into the creek/river below.
We had visited this dam many years ago, but it was suggested with all the heavy rain fallen, that this would be a good place to visit to see the water streaming out. Well, that was exactly what we were treated to when we arrived and parked to the nearby viewing platform. The whole dam was packed today, as the public holiday brought many visitors to enjoy the dam's view, as well as picnicking in the nearby grassland area. We managed to walk around the dam area and read the various signs, that helped us to better understand the dam construction, although given our engineering background, much of the details were already familiar to us. We managed to collect the answers to the required questions, and sent to the CO for verification. Thanks igotahunch for the EarthCache placement and organisation.

It was raining at the coast so we ventured in for a drive. My muggle wife has little time for geocaching but after a coffee I did manage to trick her into coming down here to look at the spillway.
It would be a great location to sit back and sip on a Greywacke Sauvignon Blanc. However given we still had to drive back to Brisbane just admired the view. Nice to see this dam spilling over, at least we have water in one location in SEQ.

Wonderful sights here today. The water was spilling over the edge, and the sky was lovely and clear. Only managed to find two of the physical caches here, fingers crossed my answers are adequate enough to log this one!
Dam was spilling today. Quite a sight. Thanks for giving us something else.to.do while here.

Found in the company of Key_Tat and Viper_101... found during our QLD holiday... staying just up the road at a nearby resort and we thought we would visit to have some lunch at the cafe. Wandered through the information display, and hopefully we got enough info to answer correctly. We will send the answers through very shortly on behalf of us and the geo-kids Key-Tat and Viper-101. Thanks heaps for the experience.

Dropped in to the dam area with my sister for a moment, secretly on my part to check it out for a future Geo-mission. It was way too hot today to go for a walk and I'd already had too much sun so I stuck to this EC, a GC park and grab and a GCA park and grab whilst here.

Tuesday. Out today with Orange Crew to find some caches in this neck of the woods and Wow! I never knew you could visit a dam and have a coffee and something to eat and check out other stuff as well. Great spot. Must drop in here again for a longer visit. Answers put together and sent to CO for consideration. It was a bit rainy today and it had held off all day – except for when we were getting out of the car here. The clouds had really dropped and it was looking like it was about to pour. It was nice to go inside the building and read up some more on this dam and other interesting articles.
This was the 9th of 10 caches found on today's trip.
Thanks ***igotahunch***, for showing us this place.

We were holidaying on the Gold Coast and had hired a car for a couple of days... and today we had driven up to Binna Burra for lunch and a look around. Making our way back down to the coast, we took a detour to come in to have a look at the dam... and buy an ice cream! After we had wandered around and found the other caches in the area, we sought out the answers to this Earth Cache.

This is the closest earth cache to my home. It is a wild and hot windy day today and having been sent a message from a geaocacher about something that I had found a few months ago, I decided to hop in the car and find a few for myself. We ducked out today to get this cache. Weather a bit ordinary, typical for the week leading up to the GC600! We arrived and wandered around the Education Centre and the carpark gathering information in the drizzle. Took shelter at the cafe and shared a Vegetarian Slice and a beer then managed to walk a bit of a walk until the rain sent us back to the car. TFTC igotahunch.
