Drove from Mangawhai to Whangrei today, stopping to pick up just two caches along this walkway. I was heading down to a tree to which my coords appeared to be directing me, when Mrs tbird yelled out from several metres away that shed spotted the cache from where she was standing on the trail. If she hadnt seen it at that point Id probably still be looking for it! #8031. TFTC.
Cool camo. A nice little hide.. took a photo as we forgot a pen. We tried to dry the log but it's pretty wet. TFTC
Find #705Found while walking Te Araroa - new Zealands long pathway from Cape Reinga to Bluff. Thank you to all the cache owners who place and maintain these caches, and thank you to all the people who help me and others on the way. Quick find here, took me a while to open which was wierd. I think I have a fear of these and like to make things harder than they are. Log is a little damped and squished in tight so photo as proof
Our favourite in the series so far, what a great container which brought back some happy childhood memories. It was surprising to see the log was very wet as the container was in great condition and seemed to be quite well sealed. But we managed to sign it very carefully. We returned the cache just in time as a farmer appeared in the nearby paddock and started herding his cows, standing right beside the fence near GZ. So we were glad we hadn't arrived a few minutes later.A very impressive series and this one is well deserving of a favorite point for its unique and nostalgic container.TFTC
Heading south along the TA today between Ruakaka and Waipu Cove. It's been a great walk so far with a beach walk and an awesome burger and a couple of brews in waipu.. I was happy to see the cycle trail being our path to follow afterwards because I assumed this section was more verge walking.Seeing that there was some caches along this trail I just had to stop and nab one or two. Good placement, excellent hint to keep things moving. Thanks go to nicholson family for placing this cache and making the day that little bit more awesome. Cheers!-- This log is trackable ! ---- Feel free to discover ---- Please mention, in which cache you've seen this code: ---- 3TABQX --
I managed to get this open but to my horror it is now a home for ants. Eeeew. I did not sign but took photo for C O.
Well I’m not sure who screamed loudest when we opened this - full of live cockroaches. Hehehe - that gave us a good laugh but might freak out others
Out for a bit of an adventure with the family. Neat container, no problem with the hide, TFTC.
Cache still there however is rusted shut again. Will replace. Photo of it until its replaced is all good. Number not needed for the bonus as there is still 5 caches in play.
As previous finders have said, could not open the container so sending a photo to the CO. Was lying on the ground but now hanging! TFTC

This cache was quickly found but the container is badly rusted and distorted. Tried as best to return to a usable state as I could after the struggle to get the lid off. TFTC

Easy to find this one although it took a good 15 minutes to try and open this one. TFTC
Found it cool find there was a nest of ants it’s adult height and had trouble opening it
We set out early to find a few caches before returning home after a weekend in Whangarei. We quickly spotted the cache hanging around. Then the fun began as the cache container has become rusty. Fortunately we had a TOTT with us, which we were able to use to gently coax the cache open to get to the log and the info for the bonus. TFTC
A big problem here , as container had been moved by the weather and hidden in long grass.
Finally stumbled on it and replaced where appropriate.

We were in the campervan today but we figured we'd have a go at getting some of these cycle trail caches as we explore Waipu.
We had no trouble spotting the cache but had to go back to the car to get a tool to open it.
Thanks for putting this here for us to find

Walking the Waipu Cycleway today to make a few finds. An interesting cache container here. Thanks.
It was a hot day to be walking this track. Not much our hats and water. A good hint made for an easy find. TFTC.
1015. 2:39 pm. We decided it was the perfect day to takes the kids for a geocaching bike ride. I though that we must be close to the next GZ. Stopped the bike and looked to the side and presto - I think I see the cache without looking at the app. Cache was very tricky to get into. As with the others in the series, found with eKitten, GRAkiWi &Co. TFT(tasty)C.
Day 18 of my TA adventure. After refueling in waipu it was off down the trail ..great to be of the road on this section ...no need to drop my pack for this one..nice quick find ....mom could do with one of those about now...
A bit gassy indeed, found the cache quickly but had to use a tool to open the container. TFTC.
I saw a cacher ahead but when I got to GZ he had disappeared. Made the find, signed the log and waited for Mr P to catch up. T4tc
Last one for me for today. Wet Sunday in the area. Nice and quick find. T4TC
BTW it was the shortest day of 2020.

There was quite a bit of gas here, coming out of my mouth! The container was rusted closed and I had great difficulty opening it. Eventually my tweezers were employed upside down and finally the container opened. Thanks for the placement.
AliGle and I spent the night near Waipu and this morning took a walk to complete this series of caches along the walkway here. A quick find here, although a little tricky to open the container. TFTC!
Stopped on my way north to Waipu Cove. A quick find. Thanks for hiding Nicklolson Family.
Nice find while in the area with tmann421 today
Enjoying the trip north and the caches
Signed log as tm/ww NZ

Nice find with woolwood9 today.
We enjoyed the drive / walk around the area.
Stamped logs as tm/ww NZ which may just look like a black smudge on plastic logs!

After a nice meal at the Pizza Barn we decided to take the caches on this trail.

Had an absolutely horrendous time trying to open this container. Took nearly 15 minutes of prying to get the rusted metal pieces apart, but we did it!
#1019. Day 27 of the Te Araroa trail and the 19th cache I found along the way. It was nice to be able to walk along this cycle trail partway to Waipu Cove. Shame it just stops in the middle and then you're forced back onto the shoulder of the narrow and winding road.
Luckily I had my swiss army knife with me or I would not have been able to get at the log.
Thanks for the cache!

3.25pm. Walked back and moved the car on and then walked to this one. Easy find but a bit hard to open.
Thank you. David.
Thank you. David.
Out and about with TW, doing some driveby's , walkbys etc, and just having a nice day cruising for caches. Thanks.
TF and I had planned a day up north picking up a few caches and this was one we both hadn't found. This one had a nice convenient parking space and the cache was soon located. Many thanks for this cache
Way to see the old year (2018) out was to go for a quick walk along the Waipu walk and cycle way to pick up the new caches that had been hidden recently. There was just time (hopefully) to get the 6 caches before we had to head off to the planned new year eve party.
A festive cache close to Christmas, hopefully a good omen for a quick find and the size indication means we might get to drop off another trackable or two. The decoration was quickly spotted handing from it's tree branch, although not a New Zealand Christmas Tree the festive cache container was still related to the season. A quick twist split the cache container to give access to the log and we were able to squeeze in one of our small trackables.

This took forever to open and I'm concerned about whether it will hold up to the winter conditions. But, find it and open it I did, parumpapumpum. Met a woman walking a dog as I emerged from the bush to sign the log. She must have thought I was a bit strange. She would be right! Clue noted and on we go.
Well... I had just eaten lunch, but I certainly wasn't feeling gassy by any means... and if I was, I certainly wouldn't have let supernanny, Lis or Hadyn know about it....lol! Check out my cache with a similar name Nicholson family... GC78BXF
Parked up close by in Lis's car, me and Helen had joined her, I came here with them 4 to this cache, someone couldn't find it on their first attempt, the other someone helped them out and I was the lucky recipient if you like of being helped along big time! Can't complain about that can I? Now Lis is driving us to the rest of the caches, nice.
Well done Lis on your **2000th cache** whoo hoo! Yes, you were with me on my 4000th cache at this time 2 years ago! Not only that you got FTF on the cache I set up for that milestone, so well done! Milestones are very, very cool!

Well I didn't get all the caches I wanted this morning to make the cito number 2000. We tried really hard but too many dnfs in the Taheke Falls reserve meant we missed our target by one cache. Oh well, that's caching and a reminder that life doesn't always go to plan despite our best efforts. I caught up with Mike and Helen at the cito. I'd missed one cache along here as had Helen. Mike hadn't started them yet so we all set off to grab them together. This was my 2000th cache find and it was really great to share it with Gorbygorbachov and suppernanny. I'd met them both at Mt Manaia and then hiked up Mt Lion with them for Mike's 4000th find. We heard a toot as we headed along the track and the CO just messaged me to say they'd seen us all along here as they drove past. Hopefully I'll meet you sometime Nicholson family. I got the numbers for the bonus but the kids were keen to go and visit the cousins. We had a lovely day exploring the forest, helping to make our place a little tidier and getting that magic milestone #2000. Thanks for your cache series out here
Took me a bit longer to find than previous ones ; as about 7m out.
Then I found it was VERY hard to open it.
Finally got in !

Had a bit of a sleep in for a Sunday morning and it was after 9:30 before I checked my emails. Was quite surprised to see the seven new caches out here at Waipu had been published much earlier in the morning. I doubted that I really had a chance for any FTFs, but unless you try, you will never know for sure. So on this basis, I decided to make a run for it and give them a go.
I grabbed a bit of brekky to eat on the way and hit the road just before 10. I had a plan to head to the last three on the trail, in case someone else was already there and had started at the beginning. I made good time and was parked up in Flagstaff Terrace by 10:30. After a quick look for number 4, I decided to pass on that trickier one and head along to the next two, which seemed like they should be easier finds, which turned out to be the case.
After walking back past the cache mobile, I carried on to this one. A very interesting cache container was soon found in the hint location, but actually accessing the log took a while longer. When I eventually got to it, the log was still blank here too, so my go for it decision was vindicated and this FTF at 11:00 becomes number 79 for me.
I had actually looked at this cycle way ever since it opened each time I passed and thought of putting 2 or 3 caches here myself, but just never got around to it, so thx to the CO for actually doing it with a nice varied series. TFTC
