A plan was hatched quite a while ago when the Dunedin Mega was announced to come over to the South Island again.I have only been to New Zealand twice before and I loved the South Island. So a chance to come back for a Mega was a no brainer for me.Everything was booked and I flew in the Saturday before after a bit of a delay.Hopefully the weather improves as Im missing the sunshine that I had earlier on on this trip.So Day 14 of my Mega NZ starts and Im heading off to Timaru to check out that town and Im slowly heading North again.I made it up and over Lindis Pass and are now heading towards Timaru which is my next stop for the night.Called into Waimate to check out all of the part on offer. The 3 images on the silo are brilliant and its well worth the walk around to see all of the sides.sides.I also liked Mrs Chamberlains washing line that is close by.The cache was soon located so now to check out more of the art. Thanks drawp TFTC.
A few found around here on a previous visit. Enjoyed the history. Nice hide, cache all good tftc

A nice easy find on a early autumn lovely day. Woke up to 3 degrees in our motorhome this morning but the sun has come out and things are getting better. All good here. TFTC.
Travelling NZ from Auckland to south. Came by flight from Wellington to Christchurch early this morning, decided to stay over night here in nice Waimate. Thanks for this cache!

What a lovely wee town. May have to come back to get some more caches and look around more. TFTC
We have had a great day caching even if soaking wet and cold. Stopped here to rectify the frown and then call it a day. Had a look where I looked last time and thought oh nope, tried a few other places and went back. Searched again and the cache was in my hand WOW what joy. This is very clever, thanks for the cache drawp.
Stopping here for the night with Mr & Mrs VDH56, we has lunch on the table nearby, so we had to get this one. Loved the fact the eve07 (friend of both of us from Dunedin) found it only days before us.
Stopping in Waimate for the night, lunch at the park. Sucrose not too get. Thanks for the cache.
Last cache for the day. Awesome paintings on these silos. Worth the stop. Quick find but log sheet is wet. TFTC drawp.
Tftc. Quick park and grab while driving through town on way back to chch
With the dogs for a walk about and found the cache. Tftc love the silo art.
Cache 881 The silo has some stunning art, thanks for bringing me here to see it, went for this cache in the dark and felt a bit dodgy poking in the bushes hunting but then luckily my Geo senses kicked in and it then became an easy find, cache was a bit wet inside but the paper was perfectly fine to write on T4TC
I had a quick look/feel around, but the main road was quite busy and I didn't want to attract attention, so will leave this one for another day.
Day #5 of my Geotour.
Dunedin to Geraldine with a bit of a diversion to the back of beyond.
This eventually quick find was a bit of a challenge as I wandered from one side of the road to the other. The GPS zeroed out on the solo side of halfway initially but once I stood at GZ it read zero again. Go figure. Can’t miss the silo art. Rather good.

Our family had immigrated from the UK to Waimate. Settling in 1923 at Arno.
With Dad as the only surviving child of the original settlers at a recent wedding a suggestion was made to have a family reunion in Waimate.
Arriving in Queenstown we made our way to Waimate and spent the weekend going around familiar places including the original farm and pub at Arno (through the gorge)
Having a couple of spare hours in the afternoon before dinner I had a quick wander around town. The silos were a prominent feature so headed here and with a cache so close decided to attempt this.
Note to self ALWAYS treat your initial gut feeling as the first place I looked I had overlooked the cache. Then got myself more confused by reading previous logs.
Eventually ended up at the first spot again and THERE IT WAS!!!!
Then when I went to replace the cache I carefully hid my pen there and started walking away with the cache container until I realised my mistake and went and swapped them.
Thanks for this cache.

The coordinates had us out on the road so were a bit unsure of which side of the road to search first. As luck would have it we chose the wrong side first. After exhausting all feasible options we went to the other side of the road.
We searched the two obvious places first but did not find it. We expanded the search and still we did not find it.
I went back to the first place we had looked and I relooked and than wondered hoe we had not found it on the first pass. Still it doesn't matter at least it was found in the end.
The art on the silo's is amazing, I went for a walk around and took some photos before heading out of town to continue with our search for the PWGT caches.
Thanks for placing this cache and thanks for the smiley

No luck for us here, both spent along time looking as couldn't believe we couldn't find it. Obviously have to try again like others.
#19370. Been meaning to look for this one for a while; this was our first chance since publication. TFTC.
It's Waitangi Day, and StreetWalkerNZ and I are heading home to Christchurch after a couple of days spent exploring the upper Waitaki area. We're taking the scenic route, of course, via Meyers Pass Rd and Waimate.
Having just completed the ad lab and bonus on Bill's work, it was fitting that we looked for this cache too. SW made a quick find. TFTC.

I was finally back in Waimate and Redco5 and I walked from the Caravan Park to it and located it easily.
I'm sure it wasn't there before. Yeah! right!.
Cheers for the cache.

When I was last in Waimate (just before Christmas) I DNF'd this cache. But after reaching home a few days later I got an email confirming that cache was still in place and a little nudge as to where to seek it - my gps had the cache out in the road! Back in town again today, I quickly found the cache (east of the road) and signed the log.
Approaching GZ, coordinates looked odd, out on the road ??? Nah, can't be there. Just somewhere near.
I am back in Waimate to sign off a few more caches.
This is one that I DNFed a year or two ago and had to do it again this time. DANG!

I was out on an evening stroll doing the Adventure Lab and had previously noted that this cache would likely be on my route. But when I got to GZ (middle of the road!) I was unsure of which side of the road to search first. Both sides were littered with rubbish. I read the previous logs and noted that some very experienced cachers had filed DNFs recently. That was good enough for me - I was out of there.
Looked over 2 days but could not find it. Will try again next time we are this way.
Found cache. Weirdly it was empty (no log). Scrawled name on nearby wrapper and left that.
Stopped of in Waimate for the LAB cache. Just had to do the Silos while Im so close. Replaced full log with Temp RITR log. Cheers
Thursday 22 October. Left home early this morning heading southwards to Oamaru today
Toby, Zara and I are on a 3 week geo adventure of Cromwell, Southland, Catlins, Balclutha with a day in Dunedin and quick stop in Timaru. With Lenny, my trusty navigator and TBD my companion/mascot. we managed to visit lots of green boxes, now happy faces with the odd sad one. Did some LABs , earth caches, virtuals and wherigos, all chucked into the mix to rack up 500 odd caches. Lots of kilometers, lots of exploring and lots of fun. Thanks to all COs for our wonderful experience.

It has been a fun afternoon.

With Karma Reprint. Wasn't sure why we couldn't remember seeing these before but that's because they weren't here when we last drove by! These sepia works are my favourite of the local murals; great colors and detail. Really enjoyed reading about the building of the silos back in the 1920s. Tftc
