A spectacular day for a walk and heading to the top of McDonald, we were rewarded with some great views.
We spent quite awhile, searching for this one, and even resorted to the spoiler pic
No luck for us here today, however.
Thanks Flintone’s

Spent a considerable amount of time looking with two sets of eyes. With the spoiler photo we believe we were in the right spot but the scenery has certainly changed. After a broad search and disturbing more rocks than I would like and being spiked by innumerable blackberries we had to finally give up the hunt.

Nice afternoon for a wander around the bush, got stormed on half way through but the misty views and sunset afterwards were worth it.

Couldn’t work this one out

Checking out Mount McDonald and surrounds today. The dam is spilling over and I have never seen the waterline up so high! Quite tricky finding this one given it’s not been found for a while!

Cache 6209 on 7 Jun 2020.

An early morning start with TikvaNZ, Fox in Jox and Noikmeister to find a new cache in this neck of the woods, which was successful. Then we decided to carry on a a grab a few more since we were up here anyway! I found a total of 10 caches this morning, 8 of them up on Mount MacDonald. Noikmeister had already found all of these ones, but was happy to walk with us and exercise Kaleb the geohound at the same time.

Third one of the morning and a quick “park and grab”! Great views from up here towards the Cotter pumping station and the water pipe heading back into Canberra!

Thanks Flintstone's for the cache and the fun!

Tankengine and I wanted to come out this way to pick up a couple of new caches and check on a couple that Tankengine owns too.

Luckily from me this meant a good number of finds that I don’t have and it’s always nice to be able to find caches Tankengine hasn’t got too.

This cache: we had come up from the other side and over to here. The cache was found pretty quick and signed before placing back where we found it and headed off to the next cache. Tftc Flintstone’s!!!

Overthought this initially and made a bit of a meal of it. However, steady does it and found it eventually neatly and safely tucked away. TFTC Flintstones. Another nice view from up here on a beautiful afternoon.

**Today:**

Mount McDonald seemed like a good location for today's exercise / hike ! I asked DSD if he wanted to join me, and despite already hiking this mountain before he also was keen to get out of the house for the afternoon!

Managed to find 5 caches up here today, with no DNFS! Saw a couple of other people near the trig station at the top, but apart from that it was fairly quiet on the hill Smile

**This Cache:**

The cache was eventually located, packed under dirt and sand, exactly as described in the hint section! Thanks for the cache

After several weeks cooped up 'working from home', I needed to get out and get caching. I ask Aquilus1 if she is available, and sure enough she is. Trying to find a days caching that we both want to target, especially while Namadji is closed, was a little difficult, but we settled on Uriarra where Aquilus1 was missing about half the caches, and I was missing all but one.

So, which ones to target? We decided on ALL. OF. THEM. At least that was easy.

So we started with the 'west' loop first, which included a dirty great big hill, part way down and then back again. Very pleased to also pick up three puzzles long solved.

On our return to the car, no having suffered enough punishment yet, we then went and did the 'east' loop. It involved more down and then up.... but at least it was a long, sort of relaxing (if we ignored the ankle/feeat/leg pain) descent back to the car.

All caches found, though some took longer than others. Sorry for the generic log, we did quite a few!

When GreyHams asked if I wanted to join him for a bit of caching, I was indeed keen and also looking forward to get out for some fresh air and exercise. It ended up being a lovely day to be out in the area, and we sure got a lot of fresh air and a huge amount of exercise!!!

There were two close by but different sections we were looking at targeting, a few caches I had previously found but both sections held ones we both needed. Which ones do we decide to do... yes, ALL. OF. THEM!

Provided for a lot of walking, we got a lot of steps in but it is a nice area and still quite green after the rains from a while ago so made for a nice day as we walked the trails. The order for the day worked out well with the big hills tackled first and after our lunch of champions we moved across to the second area and once back up to the flat levels behind the village, much easier going to end the day on.

All caches were easily found but the one which took a lot longer hidden well but luckily spotted for the find. Thank you for your cache which led to an enjoyable day out!

The view from here was spectacular. But as I bent down to pick up the cache, a mountain biker came up the road. He was the only person I had seen all day. I did a quick slight of hand trick to conceal it with my camera and took a few extra photos. I found this to be an easy walk and from here to the trig point was a magnificent 360 degree panorama. I give it a favourite because of the location. TFTC

A hot round 5km walk to pick up a handful of caches today. Sad to see the bush so so dry and dangerously stressed. Thanks for bringing us here today. Quick and easy find. TFTC Flintstone's.

G'Day My Fellow Geocacher,

How are you doing on this fine day? I’m DARKSIDEDAN aka Daniel from Canberra, Australia and I have had the pleasure of finding your Geocache during my travels as a Geocacher. This cache was an easy find. I signed the logbook either Darksidedan or Darkside or DSD.

Your cache was found in good condition with plenty of room in the logbook

I love discovering Geocaches, Trackable items and collecting Pathtags. I have added your cache to my growing list of “Found It” logs. I hope that you enjoy Geocaching as much as I do. For me geocaching is a way of life. When I am not Geocaching, I am thinking of Geocaching. I would like to say a very big than you for placing your geocache and for maintaining it for the Geocaching Community. In 2019, I won the right to place a Virtual 2.0 Cache from Geocaching.com, but I have not placed it yet. I am just trying to find somewhere that is worthy of a Virtual Cache.

Here is a little information about me. I have been geocaching since 2015. At the time of finding this cache I have over 5600 finds plus 340 hides. I am the creator of the “Duck Dip” Lab Cache that won 2nd Place for the Australian Capital Territory in the State Vs State - Battle of the Lab Caches at the OzGeoMuster - The Gong Mega 2019 in Wollongong, Australia.

Now let’s talk Pathtags. Currently I have over 4600 Pathtags in my collection plus about 500 Etagz. I currently have two of my own Pathtags (45762 & 46950) with another one in the works.

I have included with my Found It log an Original and One of a Kind, Geocaching poem that I have written. I hope that everyone who reads it gets some enjoyment out of it.

Geocache Poem by DARKSIDEDAN

My endless search goes on and on
Looking for treasures of every kind
Always chasing just one more find
Putting past DNF’s out of my mind
I step out into the world outside,
Seeking what is hidden from me
What size, shape or form will it be?
Only time will tell, I can’t wait to see
Will I find my prize at the end?
I will search in the failing light and cold
Filling with despair having looked everywhere
Where is this thing that gives my life pleasure?
Looking all around from every angle
I read the logs and check the hint
I curse out loud as I walk in circles
Screaming the bloody thing it not there
As time flies by and I fail to see,
Never once stopping to realize
It always been there before my eyes
No need for sorrow, there’s the Geocache.

I am currently writing very detailed logs because of a challenge provided by Project-GC called "The Author". This Badge challenges geocachers to write logs with an average length of more than one hundred words per log. As of the 14th August 2019 my average Found It log is 125 words per log. I would like to get all my logs up to more than 200 words per log but I will have to wait and see how I go. Currently I am just trying to get my average up by finding and logging as many geocaches as I can. My apologies to anyone who finds my lengthy logs tedious but it is the only way that I can strive to attain the highest level with this challenge. After more than 5,800 geocaches (which includes all cache finds up and including this cache, I am now entertaining the possibility that I might be able to achieve my task very soon. Progress has been better than anticipated.

Decided on a walk around Mt McDonald, as a few more caches have appeared since our last visit in September 2016, and today was the perfect winters day. Walking upwards, muggle hubby remarked on how he could see the satellite dish, peeking around the corner. "That's funny" I said, "as that is the name of the cache we are heading to". Muggle hubby made a quick find, and we securely returned the container to its hiding place. Though we have visited the trig before, we continued upwards to take in the views. TFTC Flintstones

A CBC trip round and about Cotter Dam specifically to invite muggles to find caches for me Wink. TFTC.

28-Apr-19
Out early on a clearing Sunday morning to finish off the Back of Cotter trail, complete the Village People trail and to summit Mt McDonald, collecting as many caches located along the way.

A few muggles out walking their dogs, the usual hoards of kangaroos and the odd horse grazing away. Some good hides, one I’ll just have to return to find and another that looked to be looooooong gone. Fine views on the way up Mt McDonald back down to the dam and beyond, as well as across to the South from the summit. With limited time for today’s adventure had to leave a few caches closer to the water for next time. Headed then directly down to Brindabella Road for the quick(er than back the way I came) hike back to the geomobile.

Thanks to all the CO’s for placing AND maintaining their hides. Apologies for the generic log, any specific, important or casual observations added at the end. I will be back, sooner rather than later. TNLNSL TFTC

Found at 12:07:00 PM with pprass

Went for a 12.5 km bike ride with pprass around my local area and picked up this cache on the way. The dish was peeking, as promised. The cache took some finding strangely with pprass finding it after looking again in an area he had already searched.

Thanks Flintstone's

A nice day to be out caching (and training for next months ACT 24hr rogaine champs). With a cluster of unfound caches, particularly TE caches, the area near Uriarra Village was perfect for a long walk. After a steady climb up from the car park on Brindabella Road, past the lookout and upwards to this cache. Cache soon found. TFTC.

Found at 12:07 PM GAFF1 in the company of noikmeister and DogboyOz .
Set up our caravan at the Hagan's and then we quickly worked out a tour to do on our bikes. A two hour route was worked out which ended up taking 2.5 hours.
What a fantastic view from here today - crystal clear.
Thanks Flintstone's

On my way to the trigs around Cotter Dam and Uriarra. These caches were a bonus for the day. Hey there Flintstones! We met briefly at the path tag swap. This cache was part of one of my all time fave days out caching. Just a sensational spot.

Spent a couple of hours around Mt McDonald this morning to complete 5 caches. Spent 20 minutes searching and searching, wished I had brought the spoiler. After extending the search area I found the cache buried under some gravel under the rock. TFTC.

Started looking at the wrong rock, but soon moved to the right one and found the cache. Nice views.

Chooo ooo [FTF] on a WWW day! (Windy, Wild and Whitecaps). Yep - the weather was pretty awful! The wind was fierce, and blowing dust everywhere! The sun was hot, and the dam looked impressive with all the whitecaps on it! I forgot to bring water - who has time for that on a FTF hunt! Smile

More nice views from up here. Thanks again for the cache Flintstone's.
