We were docked in Auckland New Zealand for two days on our ship - Holland America's Volendam. On Day #2, we took the ferry across to Devonport to do some Adventure Labs and some caching. By the end of the day, we completed 3 Labs and found 12 caches in our 8-mile hike. The two Labs in the Maungauika (North Head) trails had us going up, down, around, up, down, around . . . until we completed all 10 Stops - Phew! We still had some energy left after that, so we walked to Fort Takapuna to do the Lab and the caches there.Thank you to G-2 for 8 of the caches we found and to the other 4 COs for their efforts and for the other 4 caches.Thank you also to the Lab creators: G-2, Rebel98, and lumin298 for their efforts in setting up these Labs.#####################This Cache: Someone has really ruined this Gadget. It looks like they broke open the bottom to get to the cache log. They did not put it back together properly either. Once the bottom was returned, the seal had been broken, so now it leaks very quickly and the fun has been ruined. We needed water and a few TOTTS to get to the log, which was soaked. Gets a Big FAV from us though for the creativity and the fun.
Visited this cache, but wasn't able to get the mechanism to function as expected: it appeared to be leaking, and I wasn't able to achieve buoyancy. Some maintenance may be required?
Oh what fun we had. We have done ones like this before but they are always fun. Have an FP
I'm down in Auckland for a geocaching weekend with Yvettetb. It was her birthday yesterday and I wanted some cache numbers to bring my December finds up hence the plan to hit Auckland. We did the walks in Long Bay Regional Park on Friday, walking 18.7kms and got 30 caches (including AdLabs). Saturday we cached around Lake Pupuke and got 27 caches with 10.8kms of walking. Today we did Devonport so we could attend the Narrow Neck Event. Only 9.3kms walked today but it was very much up and down the mountain at North Head. 16 caches for me today. After this mornings walking I wanted some numbers for the Summer Solstice souvenir. In the 2.5 hours we had left before the event we grabbed quite a few caches in the area. A neat hide here. I must say we used another tott rather than do 6 or 7 trips. Thanks for the fun hide
Quick find at GZ and what an awesome cache this was to find. Thanks for bringing us here and TFGC.Day three of my birthday long weekend and what better way to celebrate than by going geocaching with Lis's Crew. What a great summers day for caching in/around Devonport to coincide with the Dip and Strike Event at Narrow Neck Beach later this afternoon.
Day 11: North Shore and the CityToday was the day I claimed by 8000th milestone, and what better way to do it than with an elaborate gadget cache to cap it off. We headed off early today to get up to Castor Bay, and it still took almost an hour in the traffic. After that, I went down to Takapuna, while the family headed off for their own things. After that, it was a ferry ride from Devonport into the city to meet up with the wife for the train ride home. A very nice slate of caches again today, I continue to be impressed with what you Auckland cachers come up with in tricky urban environments. Thanks for the inspirations and for keeping the game as fun as it is! (End of the cut and paste bit)This is the specific log for this cache:Well, this was a fun one, though not my first and definitely not last cache of this type. All I can say is that this felt like a Taskmaster sort of a task, and I am glad I brought a water bottle with me today. Took a couple of rounds to sort things out and get the cache out. Unfortunately, the logsheet is too wet for signing, so heres a photo of it (so wet that it stuck to the wall!). TFTC!
Cool cache, nice clue and hint. Log is a big wet, could do with waterproof paper!
**#19,374**Last find before the phone alerts for new listings beeped, this was a nice one to have a crack at, had a container in the van that did the job, got the logsheet out and signed the log, then the alerts went off so we put it all back together and scarpered slightly north 20km...
Lol just realised how dumb my last log was after reading the description! TFT clever C
Such a great cache! Had to think about it.FYI, The log book was soaked so maybe next time put it in a plastic little bag?
#430 Water fun cache! Ive done a few of these now but still enjoy them as much as ever. Thanks for the recent maintenance.
what a FANTASTIC IDEA - love it. The last time we had a similar cache was in the US. Id say bring an empty waterbottle with you! TFTC and maintaining it too.
All fixed now. Please be gentle with me and have fun with the cache. Don’t break it to get to the log please!
A new and windy day and got across the bay looking for some more smileys. Still here and possible to sign. Thank you for the cache!
So the plan I have today is go around collecting caches with 10+ FP's for this months HQ challenge. This is another one on my list. I thought this was going to be very cool! Unfortunately it's not, the plumbing thing is not attached to anything, it just stands up against the fence and no water is needed, just need to turn it upside down to retrieve the cache. Sorry GeoTrioNZ, if you had done maintenance on this I would have heartily given you a FP.
Very awesome cache - we are caching in a storm so didn’t want to get log wet but have photos
Found in the corner without any problems. Having found a few in this series it wasn't a problem. Thanks for the effort that you have put into this series.
Another day in paradise, exploring a new area of Auckland. Of course it's caching time. Tftc
A very easy find because it was very quiet tonight. BUT it no longer works as the gadget cache it was designed to be which is a bit of a shame.
As my geocache team said today - this was the best geocache we ever found! Good one!! Thank you very much!
From MA USA and stuck in Auckland until 5 Feb due to rains cancelling flight. Out walking and caching. TFTC
Wanting to start the year off right I headed out with Keylev for a night raid on the North Shore.
After work we jumped in our car and headed over to the area with the intention of driving around a circuit and clearing as many as we could.
Found the container but it was broken so no water needed to extract the log.

Out on a caching night out with NZ Travellers as both mini-cachers are away at camp .
Quick find here but as others have noted its not working as designed currently...would have been pretty cool to do though.
Thanks for the cache.

Thanks for the cache.
Was in the area today to collect cache numbers and with a few adventure labs nearby, decided upon here for the task......On the bike for faster commuting times between caches.....later on in the afternoon this option really paid off, when the thunder storm hit suddenly.........
Cache has seen better days.....understood what was required to gain entry here, but I spotted this from afar, and it was basically strewn all over the ground.....I managed to reassemble, sort of, as it has been broken, and placed it out of the way in the corner where the 2 buildings meet....hopefully the CO can get to it before it totally disappears....., signed in as SAC sometimes to save space in the logbooks........

Another visit to Devonport today to find our remaining 8 trads on the peninsula. I came prepared with my own water supply, plus a few other handy items to aid a solo retrieval of the cache. They worked a treat, and I soon had the cache in hand. Thanks, nicely done.
What a great cache, son walked straight up to it thankfully as I probably would have been searching for ages. Tried to write on log but it’s completely sodden unfortunately. TFTC
Found the cache. Unfortunately the zip ties were broken so all I had to do was flip the container. The log was wet and needs to be replaced. Great idea for a cache and executed quite well but needs some maintenance. TFTC
M24: came here two days ago approaching the cache, turns out I didn't have enough water, now coming back today, I had three bottles ready, to start filling. Close but successful. A nice and easy cache to retrieve and deserves an FP. Also, log is full.

Such a creative cache! Came with three friends and filled it up in about 5 turns. One of my favourites!
Found it. Rainy day adventures with Mike. Was no room to write on the log though unfortunately. Thank you!
A nice quick find. I brought supplies from the car which sped up the process a little. Thanks for placing your cache.
I'm in Auckland and I am exploring the region while I am based here. Today was a good day, I cruised around and about Devonport. The weather was pretty good, and I had a great time.
Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. Cheers.

TFTC. After reading the logs realised what was involved for this one. Nice and easy, great design. thanks!
I've seen a few similar caches before, but thankfully this one came with everything needed. It's a good thing I wasn't alone and had someone who could access the closer source of what was needed. The cache isn't completely sealed so it did take about 8 efforts. As the last cacher said, the log is kind of full. I think I managed to find a spot to write my name though. Thanks! Well done!
Been meaning to do this one for years! Knew what it involved so cheated a wee bit and came prepared. Still lots of fun and very clever. Fav point given. Thanks.

We were out exploring Cheltenham today and thought that doing some Geocaches along the way would be fun.

Mr p and I had an idea and when we got to gz everything was confirmed. quick retrieve thanks for the fun
My first visit to NZ and after a few hours of sleep before heading out to discover my surrounding. I decided on doing a few caches which didn't end on a couple. Sadly I didn't take a pen along with myself so took a photo. I also didn't put a log as I logged on phone. I really enjoyed the walk and the views. Some caches were more difficult than others .
Thanks for all the hard work that went into the caches.
Apologies for copy and paste.

A special birthday find for me. Mr Squirrel took the day off and we had a nice picnic and a spot of caching. Brilliant! Fav point from me
Have done a similar cache before so returned to the car for two TOTs then signed in quickly & then onto Lunch at a nearby Cafe. TFTC
a fav point here.
a fav point here.
Really enjoyed this one! It took me 6 trips back and forth before I could reach in and grab it... but it should have only taken 5 (tip for future finders: make sure the tap is closed!) TFTC for another great cache in this series.
Had a hunch what we would find here and handily had vessels with us to use, along with the handily placed facility. Good teamwork to retrieve and sign. Log now full. TFTC
Always like this sort, good fun and nobody go too wet! Found with PhilBirdBoys. TFTC.
*** Retrospectively logging finds now Lock-down has spoiled my plan for improving finds to become 10+ find days. ***
Another find in the great variety of G3NZ's hides and another good one. I came armed with the additional item required and after shutting off the thing, I didn't force it, I was able to extract and sign the log easily enough.
When I first started working over on the North Shore, initially for 3 months, then out to 6 months, I identified this target-rich environment as being what would enable me to upgrade my finds per day from single-figure find days (there were about 20 days of 5 or more). I went out over a range of dates and physically made the find, signed the log, and noted the date on my personal note. These were reserved for finds when required, or back-dated finds if not 'required'. I'd been tracking well and improved all days desired until this week when Lock-down meant the end of finding caches and thus the 5-day on 20 Aug will be missed, as will a few others coming up, I suspect.

Arrived and took stick of the situation, three quick trips and the cache was ours. Thank you for a fun one.
Easy find after reading the other clues. Awesome cache. Thank you. Worth a Fav point
All quiet today at GZ. Had plenty of time to do the 5 trip necessary with my own transportation device. I had looked for this one some time ago but there were too many muggles. Thanks for hiding GeoTrioNZ. A fav from me.
I still needed a couple of caches to complete the Wonders of the World series and was in the area to see the in-laws, have a swim at Cheltenham (packed but great) and have fish and chips for dinner. On the way home I enlisted the help of Mrs McArgister and the kids, Mini & Micro McArgister to assist with the two caches that fit the bill and they looked interesting too! Once I let the kids figure out hot to retrieve the cache, with an already full TOTT per child, we were halfway there already. A trip each to the nearby facilities and we were soon signing in! The kids (and I!) loved this gadget cache. Thanks for setting it up! A fav point from us.
What a cool and fun cache. Enjoyed it very much together with Pyphant and Greenkiwikids. FP from me. I think it was here when our pen started to fail on us, but I think we managed to write downat least parts of the date... What a nice way to end the year. FP from me for the beautiful location. Tftc
First cache for the day before Devonport woke up. Had enough with me to make a quick job of signing the log. TFTC
Long story short - we had come prepared. Appropriate sized containers travelled all the way from Nelson in our suitcases and filled this morning in preparation. We had expected to had to also do a bit of refilling but that wasn't necessary. I've found a few variables of this kind and this was well executed - so have a favourite. TFTC # 16,156
On a geocaching expedition from Nelson. Way back in February Isis58, no.13 and I planned a trip to Auckland for the planned Mega event. When Covid struck and the country went into lockdown we decided to wait and see what happened - - that was less hassle than trying to get refunds on our flights anyway. Well, of course the Mega event was cancelled but luckily for us, flying was an option again by Labour Weekend. We changed some of the details of our trip but decided we would fit in as much caching as we could. We were joined by Mrs SoBad. We visited some amazing places, fitted in some walks, came across lots of people - - lots of traffic too. A huge thank you to the COs for hiding caches which presented us with puzzles to solve, took us to great places, were cleverly camouflaged, were cunningly hidden - - sometimes in plain sight - - all of the above and of course an equal thank you for the ones that just gave us one more smilie. We really really appreciated them all. Thanks !
Arrived at GZ prepared with inss
Had no problems retrieving the cache.
Impressive hide.

Mrs SoBad was caching with very organised people and we called ourselves the INSS group for the weekend. One had put full bottles in the car, another found a perfect park and the rest of us followed and were ready to add or grab. Cache log signed as INSS and we used the nearby facilities before moving on. Lots of people in the area, all too busy having fun to wonder about us. Another enjoyable pipe cache,
Thanks.
Thanks.
Very cool gadget cache! It had me sweating almost! I really liked the idea of it and I'm glad I stopped off here! TFTC. Fp given! Forgot to bring pen so took photo for proof of find
The weather was so lovely today that I decided to head out and grab a few caches I wasn't able to grab in this area previously. Including a replacement log if needed, as I had read the previous log.
I had spotted this one previously but, due not having an appropriate item on me, I couldn't retrieve it then. Today I was sensible and had remembered everything I needed and after a short time I soon had the cache in hand. There was definitely an old log in the cache, signed by other people, so it all appeared to be in fine condition. Thanks for the cache, great hide. Worth a favourite. #1049

Claimed a find for this, however there was no log remaining in the cache. Sorry I didnt have a spare to put in there. TFTC
It's a shame there isn't more parking down here. Mrs p jumped out of the car while Mr b stayed in car due to being double parked. Cache was quickly spotted and we always have the tool needed in the car with us. Although tool wasn't quite big enough so glad there was an extension close by. Shame is was a crappy day as would have liked to explore the beach area as never been down here before. A fav for a fun cache and nice spot. Thanks for placing the cache GeoTrioNZ.
