Over in Mackay from Perth for work. Was in the area so walked out along the long breakwater to complete this virtual. Great views while here. Thanks 'dandent', for hiding this geocache for people to find. This is find number 10,112 for me. TFTC
Found! Very cool to have a breakwater you can drive along. Cache questions simple and fun. Tftc
We stayed over night at the Clairview campground. Heading further north, on our way to Mackay, we made a few stops to find caches and to shop. Thanks a lot for this virtual cache,Murkel,on tour with Muckel1, who sent the answers for the both of us.27. September 2024 14:00
Out at the harbour on a beautiful clear blue sky Saturday, been meaning to complete this virtual for ages! Loved reading the detailed history contained within the cache description. Quick solve at the GZ, thoroughly enjoyed the question 3 code deciphering. After committing the answers to my notes, took a seat on a nearby rock and waved at all the incoming boats after a stunning day spent on the water. Thanks for placing this virtual here, definitely worth a trip out! (We even saw some whales offshore! ) Found with Globetrotters7701
We are visiting family in Mackay and we ventured out here to see the Whales ,while we were here we took the notes to log this virtual TFTC
Answers sent to CO.frmen1 and I were impressed by how long the breakwater is. Very popular with drivers and walkers alike.Even back in the 1930s it was lengthy. Thank you for bringing us out here. Will now have to check out the green one. TFTV
Enjoyed the drive along the breakwater. Thanks for putting a VC here. Please refer to tassie expat answers submitted.

I was happy to be near the ocean again. This location took a while to get to, but i made it in the end. Answers have been sent to th CO. Thank you for the smiley and the fun!The day:I was visiting from the U.S. and had a goal of driving all the way up the east coast starting in Melbourne and ending in Port Douglas over a few weeks. Today started in Rockhampton and ended in Airlie Beach.I was enjoying my drive up the coast and seeing new places along the way. Many thanks to all the geocachers who placed and continue to maintain their geocaches for folks like me to find. I know it's not always easy, but I do appreciate you.
After a beautiful walk along the foreshore we wandered out to find this cache , discovered a 2 stroke Suzuki motorbike as a bonus , TFTC for this awesome virtual
This was our last find in the Mackay region. Had such a good family holiday. Good spot out in the Break Water. TFTC

Departed Melbourne many weeks ago now and have been travelling north for the winter, well, for the northern warmth actually (hopefully ), passing through as many small towns as I can grabbing the odd cache here and there as I travel.
Finally made the northern warmth and the Cape and we have loved every minute of it now we are on our way home again and having many more adventures as we slowly travel south.
Today, we a rest day looking around Mackay and surrounding area before heading south again tomorrow.
Tried for this earlier in the day but found the Breakwater closed between 6 am and 6 pm due to construction (which seems to be a long term project). Returned to walk out this afternoon and gather the required information.
**Thanks for placing this cache dandent**

Found 18:22 3/8/2023. It was good I did it when I did, as you can only walk on the breakwater from 18:00 due to construction work. An enjoyable walk with nice views of the harbour. Got slightly wet on the way back as some rain passed through. Thank you dandent for the cache and bringing me to this location.
Apologies for the late log here (07.01.24) but I've had a busy time since getting back to the UK.A bit of a walk to GZ, but I knew what I'd signed up for and enjoyed the warming day as I waltzed along. A couple of boats left the harbour and I saw dog walkers, joggers and seabirds aplenty. It was all pretty chill as I listened to a comedy podcast on my headphones and got my photos at GZ. I'll upload a non-spoiler and message my answers across. Thanks for the history and the exorcise. TNLN-Virtual. TFTVC!SP (UK) on an epic trek right around the world.
We are staying at the marina for a couple of days on our catamaran, Montage, sailing north on our gap year. We've been sailing 6 weeks so far, leaving Newport (Redcliffe, Moreton Bay) at the beginning of May. Home is Eudlo, Sunshine Coast. We're just in port to restock food, water & fuel and do some washing. Happy to have some handy caches to search for close to the marina.
We tried to walk along the breakwater this morning but it's closed during the day for works on weekdays. If only we'd realised yesterday, which was Sunday, we could have walked along it in the daylight for a better view.
So today, we went for a walk after dinner at the Lighthouse - we carried our leftover pizza the whole way. It ended up being about a 4km walk all up - quite enough to walk off dinner! Amazed at the long string of lights from container ships out at sea, waiting for their turn to come in to the terminal.
Very interesting information about the harbour and finding the plaque at gz.

Great place to visit and watch a few boats.

Great Northern escape 2022 Day 106. Mackay Day 2. With no pressing caching goals for today, I set about a few solved puzzles, and an interesting walk to an island on the river. I managed some LABs as well. There are some interesting areas of Mackay and the Marina is a beautiful place.
I was out here to visit the park, but I took my scooter for a ride around the marina and to the breakwater. It was quite popular out here, I am glad I rode, I was great to see all the boast and a bit of the history of the area.
Thanks for the cache dandent

A beautiful day to enjoy fish and chips at the marina, watch the millions of dollars worth of water craft bobbing in the breeze, and earn a smiley. TFTC
On the hunting trail again with SeasonedBird. I’ll leave the more interesting & detailed log to Mrs Geo (aka: SeasonedBird, Salty Chook, the Old Boiler, Old Chook, Dirty Bird, Angry Bird & occasionally even Love Bird) because she writes so much more eloquently than I and usually has much more time to do so while I’m driving. It’s a great day for caching. TFTC dandent

The Mega has been and gone and we had so much fun meeting with friends. Now we've turned south towards home but we're still finding caches and great camps along the way.
What a great way to finish off Mackay, it's been wet and fabulous, great fish & chips at the marina and we've had a ball.
Big thanks to dandent for placing this virtual cache.

We were staying in Mackay for a few days on our trip south after the Townsville Mega and this looked like a place we'd enjoy visiting.
Couldn't believe when we arrived at the breakwater that we could actually drive to the end... this must be a first for us. Found our answers and tried to process the mind boggling amount of rocks that form the breakwall. What an enormous undertaking this must have been. TFTV dandent.. a top spot for one.

It’s about time I began to head home after the Townsville mega, so here I am in Mackay. The weather was certainly not put on for me though! I enjoyed this virtual, a bit different to the standard “take a photo” Thanks for the puzzles, the caches, the different to the usual finds dandent. A favourite point.
**This Cache:**
Woah, what a spectacular location!
Shocking there isn't a physical cache here! Unless there is and I just don't have coordinates for it! But a virtual is even better of course, and I loved my drive out here!
Seeing the large ship docked was pretty neat too, given the wet weather it was also extremely quiet. There was only one other car here!
I proceeded to take a couple of pictures and find the answers which have been sent privately to the CO.
Thanks for bringing me here, have a favourite point for the location

**Today:**
Day 17 of my road trip, now heading back to Canberra from the Townsville Mega Event!
I left Townsville this morning, didn't have a plan of how far I was going to go but I only made it to Mackay. This was mostly due to the rain, which meant camping was off the cards so I had to pull up shorter than expected. I also didn't get moving until about 8:30am, and wanted to pick up just a couple caches in the "Saint" series before I left, as I never had time to do it! I got soaked, but luckily the rain only started when I was halfway through the ones I had hand-picked from the bunch.
Despite the wet weather I managed to find all the caches along the route that I wanted, including some extra ones in Mackay that weren't even on my list but the rain slowed down and they looked like they could be fun, which they were!
Thanks to all the CO's! Ended my day with my final cache find a little after 8pm!

Such a beautiful spot to visit! Wow.
….
It’s Mega time once again!! Woo hoo!! Love these epic road trips. After an amazing drive up Canberra - Narromine - Cunnamulla - Blackall - Winton - Charters Towers - Townsville. We had a blast at the main event. Now it is time for the trip home - with the plan being chances to explore Bowen, Rockhampton, Emerald, Roma, Lightning Ridge and Dubbo. Will see if the April rains and flooding detour us! Thanks to everyone in the region for the top quality caching. Appreciate your efforts.

Loved the break water and location at the end. Answers sent and and the quick okay received.
Up to Townsville with GreyHams, timed well with a Mega and Maze and a lot of quality caching in the area to keep anyone busy for longer than the time we had! Counties were our primary focus, up to Cardwell and south of Mackay... a side trip out towards charters, we covered some distance in the 5 days away but saw so much.
Day 1 saw us arrive late in the day after a stop off in cairns, out towards Charters was a lovely drive with its drier scenery before back into the mega to catch up with friends and a Trivia night.
Day 2 was our Mega and Maze day. Lots of great quality and fun ALs on site, friendly people and a visit from the Mega's Easter Bunny for my chocolate egg! Even managed a refreshing squirt from a hose on one AL much to the amusement of those watching!!! Loved the escape room experience and then off north towards Cardwell for a little caching through more iconic north Queensland scenery.
Day 3 saw us walking the length of the strand, lovely historic area, lots of caching and great scenery to enjoy. A good solid morning in the area before boarding the ferry to Palm island, after the warm walk of the morning it was great to sit in the cold aircon with lunch, a cold drink and relax out on the water.
The visit to Palm Island was a beautiful location and very pleased to have had the opportunity to experience it. A calm relaxed trip across was a far contrast to the busy and rough trip back. Into the waves led to a wild and stomach churning bounce of the ferry as it made its journey back to Townsville, yet up top in the open wind and spray it was a wild and fun time!
Day 4 saw us driving south of Mackay for a letterbox trail. More iconic Queensland scenery as we drove, love all the cane fields, lush green and huge mountain ranges. The letter box trail was worth the drive, a lovely area and well put together and we even passed other Canberra teams along the road! Mackay offered lovely beach scenery, a step back into my childhood and a little adventure... plan 'F' payed off as it often does. The little town of Calen came to our rescue were the people were friendly and and the facilities and hotel worthy of stopping.
Day 5 and our last, the journey back towards Townsville with a few stops as we cached along, the heat kicked up a notch but the cars aircon matched it well! Up to Castle Hill and then our time was done and back to the airport and the trip home... Many thanks to the CO's for your caches that led us on another very enjoyable trip.

The last cache for the trip. And it was a nice drive out to the breakwater rather than the walk we did in Townsville

This cache was found as part of a trip with GoosenEgg and Stainless Steel Rat to Far North Queensland for the Townsville Mega. The trip started in Cairns and ended in Mackay, and allowed us to find some ripper caches inbetween.
We managed to complete some of the Breaking Bad cache series until we driven back to the car due to the heat, and the Saint and most of the book series. There were some good variety in both these series which kept them interesting.
One of the highlights (although a low light when removing the mud) was the walk on the salt flats outside Townsville to get the challenge caches
Another highlight was Magnetic island, where other than some great views, we managed to spot two koala's in the wild.
Thank you for placing and maintaining this cache that was part of our trip

This virtual cache was one of the main reasons for driving down from Townsville. After checking in we popped out again to find this cache and grab a meal.
I appreciated we could drive all the way out here, especially after a horror walk on the Townsville breakwater.

A ten day mega trip was arranged with Stainless steel rat and Budgietas. We flew into Cairns and out of Mackay, with the majority of the time in and around Townsville. We found a huge variety of caches and although our find count was a little lower than we would have liked, some of the high D/T caches more than made up for that. I really appreciate the effort of the local COs and all the people involved in hosting the mega and associated activities. I enjoyed catching up with many of our caching buddies, and make some new ones too!

The last full day of caching for us today as we collect some last caches in Townsville and then head South to Mackay for our flight home to Tassie in the early morning. we grabbed what we could but there is never enough time. Budgie sent the answers in for this one.
This was my first Mega trip in a while now, I had planned to go to the last one in Wangaratta but concerns about COVID made me pull out at the last minute. For this one it was a trip with BudgieTas and GooseandEgg landing in Cairns on the Sunday where we collected a few caches in the dark before driving down to Townsville on the Monday collecting a select few caches along our very indirect route.
While in the Townsville we made the best of our time collecting a few series of caches and searching for some of the older caches on offer, some with lots of favourite points or something we thought maybe a bit different, along with all that we got to go to all the Mega events and meet up with cachers old and new, spending Thursday with Greg going round Magnetic Island and a bit of time with the Davinells who went out of their way to welcome the Tasmanians to Queensland.
All to soon it came to an end and we drove down to Mackay on the Monday again collecting caches along the way before flying home on the Tuesday Morning.
Thanks for the warm (sometimes too hot) welcome Queensland until next time!
Thanks for the cache.

Making our way along the coast today and we decided to stop by this one. This is by far the biggest breakwater I have ever seen, thanks for bringing us to this spot dandent ????
A very pretty spot here. It was one of the last of the day for Stephyy, jodsta83 and I. Really enjoyed coming out here to see Mackay from a different view!

We went out along the breakwall with ilook4geo. Admired the money making many holes in the water as we drove by. At the end of the road we read the info and worked out the answers to the questions. These have been sent to the CO. It was a beautiful day so we enjoyed lunch here and saw quite a lot of ships waiting out at sea.
Thank you to dandent for bringing us here and for creating this virtual cache. Favourite point added.

After having been quite busy with finding caches for the last few days we decided to have a slow day today. Did some tourism things, some shopping and just a bit of caching. This was one of the caches we found. We really enjoyed our visit here. TFTC.
Heading north for the Townsville Mega, taking 5 days and finding caches along the way. Thanks to the COs for placing these caches to show us more of your local area.

Day 4 of our road trip to the Townsville mega. We have finally made it to Mackay, later than expected so we had to cut the list down, this virtual survived and we took a drive along the breakwater to GZ.
A nice area to check out, answers found without any trouble and got a quick reply from CO

Nyssaflutterby and I drove out here at night, it was nice after our hot day of travelling.
There were a few people around but we had no problem collecting the answers.
We saw some big ships and lots of pretty lights.

After a busy day and then a longer than expected dinner date with a Mackay friend, wombles and I finally made it out for a drive on the breakwall.
What a lovely place to visit at night, a cool breeze and lights shining on the water from the harbour. We collected all information required and decided it was time to head for our accommodation.

Team Tour de Ville - TMZ59, Patrol14, Peppa and me are on our way to attend the Townsville MEGA Event and picking up a few selected caches along the way. This was a nice drive way out to this cache and a quaint little Lighthouse at the end. Found the clues, did the conversion and soon had the answers. Sent off answers to CO and received a reply to log this cache. TFTC
TFTC. We are making our way to Townsville for the Mega at Easter. As we make our way up we are stopping to find caches between our overnight stops. Always good to stop to stretch our legs. And find a cache as well. We had arrived in town a little earlier. We set about gathering information for the several Adventure Labs . We were close bu]y so drove up the Breakwater . Just as we started to find the require information we ran into another couple of cachers. We had a chat with domsky and after a little while we went our separate ways. Answers sent and ok’d by the CO
What a beautiful place to create a virtual. It was late afternoon, and the weather was a bit squally.
Initially, we had thought we might need to walk all the way out to GZ, but were very surprised to find a driving road.
This virtual also provided us with the opportunity to explore some of the water frontage here. What a great location and so many apartments overlooking the Harbour.
As we arrived at GZ, we bumped into another couple, who were also geocachers, and seeking this one.
We have sent our answers to the CO.

Third day of our trip to Townsville for the MEGA and we (Peppa, TMZ59., Imbunda and I) are caching in Mackay before driving the final leg.
Came down to the harbour to see all the boats and look out to sea. Also had to find the answers for this virtual. Interesting location. Answers sent to CO. Thanks for bringing us here.

Day 3 of our Tour de Ville… having overnighted in Mackay we’re heading to Townsville…
Again, TMZ59 is at the wheel of the Habanero Sport, Patrol14 is up front and I’m having to constantly apologise to Imbunda in the back about covering her shirt in my milk…
We had a list two days ago… it lasted one cache before we started to detour… with some time to spare before we needed to be on the road, a new list was made for Mackay (pronounced Mackey)…
A virtual, that’s a must have… an ideal location for a virtual…

This is such a beautiful area and today was a great day to visit. Unfortunately, we don't have a lot of time but we have both decided that we will be back with some time to spend looking around here. Thank you for placing this cache and thus bringing us here.
We were fortunate to visit on a beautiful clear day as we have heard that we are going to strike rain as we make our way further north. The views were gorgeous but we had limited time so didn't have much of a chance to look around. Just means that we will have to come back. Thanks for this cache and showing us what we otherwise would have missed.
Snapped a photo & had a quick wander then found a local cafe with some delish nachos, & set about solving the puzzle!
Nice to do something a little different! TFTC ??

Well this a fun one to drive to! I was afraid we’d have to walk and then I pulled the map in for a closer inspection - there’s a road! I even managed to nudge King Lizard off his phone for a looksee out the window.
This is the second day of the drive from Brisbane to Townsville and today I, along with Fangsoki, Crew 153 and 1MinnieMoo are doing the Rockhampton to Mackay leg. I've never driven north of Rocky, so this is all new to me. But, I'm in the backseat today, meaning even the notorious Marlborough stretch went by quickly as I read and wrote.
After a lunch stop in Sarina, and a visit to Hay Point, we arrive in our overnight stop; Mackay. I've not been to Mackay before, so this is a little exciting. After checking in to the motel, we head out to the coast and the harbour here.
I've seen a bit written about the harbour in my research for shipwrecks closer to home, but I soon learn this is a fantastic place to visit! I was surprised we could simply drive all the way out, so we did. It seemd a popular spot, but even with muggles kicking about doing different things, it was a most pleasant and peaceful place to be. We're on a time schedule, but we lingered here a while.
With this time, I explored around a bit, checking out views, watching seagulls and stacking a few rocks. And of course lined up some careful angles for selfies to not ruin the game for others. And my answers have now been messaged through. This was a highlight of the afternoon, thank you dandent for bringing me here

A 9 day roadtrip to Townsville and back to Brisbane in the Fangsoki Pajero with the usual cast of cachers.
We took the detour off the highway to check out this location. It was so peaceful out here today and we quickly had the answers which have been forwarded to the CO. Pity we were on a tight time restriction. I could have stayed here a bit longer.

Day 2 (Gladstone to Mackay) of our Mega road trip . It was very wet this afternoon when we arrived. Thankfully there was really only one cache I was interested in finding here and this was it. The rain probably gave the advantage of ample parking spots. As I arrived at 6pm it eased a little so I ran out to snap a few pics and then returned to the car to review the questions. Answers sent and a prompt reply received. TFTC dandent.
Saw the signs to the shipping port. Had to check it out. That expanded into a trip out on this pier. Thanks for the history and cache.
On a road trip and caching adventure around Central Qld after our Vic mega plans were scuttled. Staying in Mackay for a few nights and seeing the sights of the region.
A gorgeous morning for a drive along the breakwater, followed by coffee and a bacon egg roll at the cafe. Bliss!

With a little time up my sleeve, I headed to this virtual cache. At GZ, I gathered the reqquired answers, then took time to take in the views. I counted 14 ships offshore and two werre berthed at the harbour. As I was leaving, I stopped to watch the pilot boat come back in. Thanks, dandent, for bringing me to this interesting spot....and TFTC
1MinnieMoo and I are in town for a few days - so we decided to grab this virtual.
I was ever so grateful you can actually *drive* out onto the breakwater. We puttered out there and thankfully found a park in the late afternoon.
We set about collecting our clues and doing what was needed - and then we were off to take some photos of ourselves and the sunset.

Fangsoki and I are on a road trip from Brisbane, heading far far north. Our first stop for our adventures was Mackay, arriving yesterday afternoon.
After a day of significant hiking today, we headed back to our quarters and decided to shower and relax for a while. Then, with the extra hours of daylight we had left, we decided we could head out again for some easier caching. This was our first target.
Driving up here, we wondered whether we would manage to secure a parking spot, but apparently we did not need to worry, there were a few to choose from. We clambered out of the car and headed towards GZ, passing a newlywed couple who were having professional photos done in their bridal clothes. The sun was going down, the weather was pleasant and the view quite lovely. We grabbed the information required and snapped a number of photos before heading off.

Took a drive out this way for the virtual and ended up coming back for a midday swim at the nearby surf club beach. Interesting location that we would not have visited otherwise. Answers sent. Congratulations on your virtual reward and for setting up an interesting virtual.
We took a drive out to the Mackay Harbour this afternoon and located the information for this virtual cache. It was a windy and cool afternoon so the family waited in the car while I made a dash for the answers and a photo. The responses have been sent to the CO and a photo added to the log entry. Many thanks for this virtual cache.
We are currently travelling along Queensland‘s coast on a short vacation. Of course some target caches were also on the list of must do’s along the way and this was one of them. Thank you very much for placing this geocache, especially such a rare type.
The information we’re quickly gathered, the view enjoyed and then we had to continue.

We have been driving around Mackay for the past few days with Temingi collecting lots of geo caches, and have finally got out to the harbour. Wow-what a great place it is. So much more developed than we expected. It was dark, so our photo is not all that great.
Thanks for developing this virtual, and bringing us here to do it. Well worth the drive (which was much longer than we expected!)

I visited this Virtual cache as I meandered my way from Adelaide to Cairns.
With no real travel plan and three weeks to get there before I meet up with friends, there has been plenty of opportunity for sightseeing and finding a few selected caches along the way.
I ventured out to the end of the breakwater in the late afternoon. The required information was collected and has been sent off.
An odd thing happened when I took a selfie near the end of the breakwater…
Thanks dandent for the cache.
