Visited today. Love caches like these that bring me to places that I otherwise never would have visited. My knees didn't agree with the method but we got there in the end. Brief not entirely met due to the overcast day. But my photo is attached. Thanks!
Found - Mrs McMike2012 & I live full-time in our caravan travelling around NZ, visiting the places we want to visit & doing the things we want to do and fitting in a bit of Geocaching here & there we are staying in Wellington & decided that we needed to explore a bit more of the Wellington Regional area along the Kapiti Coast started here in Pukenui Bay this location was a bit awkward for an old fart like me to get down & into, but persistence paid off I love all facets of Military History & this was something special photos attached & I trust we meet the requirements of the Cache Owner were pleased to add another 'smiley face' to the tally TFTC ... TN except photos:LN not even footprints:no L to S #5,976 for Us!
Lovely day for this exploration. Glad it wasn't high tide yet! Happy caching everyone
A sunny but cool and windy day. Crawling is not so easy in old age! Then set off on a loop up the goat track, past the overbridge cache and down the zigzag.TFTC
Had a wonderful explore here with geohubby and granddaughter (JoggIn jnr2), who managed to find a much smaller exit hole than I was game to try. Thanks for bringing us here, and placing a cache for our enjoyment.
Quite the crawl to get in here - and I'm on the short side! Mystery log to come later as I managed to confuse that with a Virtual, so will have to return to find the actual cache . TFTC tmann421 - really enjoy these historic ones, which really weren't that long ago, and still living memory for some people, like my Uncle, born in 1937 and with a memory like an elephant!
Great place and interesting history, all you need! Thanks for the cache./herrFamaxe from Sweden
Had just had a celebratory ice cream having completed the Escarpment walk south to north so thought we'd drive back to have a gentle wander around Pukerua Bay, so just happened to pass this TFTC
On our way home from a couple weeks in the South Island a night here in a lovely room, such a beautiful spot, thanks
A nice virtual. I needed to bend a bit to go inside but no crawling. It was difficult to take the picture with both the name and the island because of the light difference, so the island is quitte blurred but the name is clear.
**19,828**A short waddle through the entrance and along the passage to the end of the pillbox. Was holding my phone to take the photo so used the van keys (with registration plate number) as our personal item. Thanks for setting up this cool virtual cache. TFTVC
This is such a beautiful area for a virtual cache. I probably would have missed this spot if it wasn't for the virtual.
The old body doesn't bend like it used to, but I managed to maneuver my way in to take the obligatory photo.
Thanks for setting this up

Thanks for bringing us here! A great patch of caches/labs along this bit. Cool that we could crawl inside the bunker
Great wander along the bay,
nearly missed this emplacement as we walked on past, thankfully it caught my eye as we wandered (had the Adventure Lab open)
After seeing what i thought was the only way in i nearly noped out, but on further investigation i did not need to by a 10 year old gymnast, just a bit more co-ordinated than I am LOL
I'm glad i wore my waterproof shoes as i landed in the stream feet first thankfully.

Found a way in and crawled through to the right spot. I struggled to get everything lined up for the photo. I hope it's not cheating that Mr M5 (who refused to do the crawling bit) is holding the paper!

One of us has crawled into this bunker once before in the name of geo-caching. Fingers crossed it is the last time! Kapiti Island was hidden behind cloud so the photo won't win any prizes. TFTC.
Parked down the bottom of Pukerua Beach Rd. But it turns out you can park about 5 meters away from GZ.
That's cool.
Read instructions at GZ. Had nothing to write on and was about to write on my hand but pulled some clean paper from the bin nearby, lol.
Wrote my username on it and dived in the bunker.
Placing name was a little figity, and suddenly grey clouds were darkening the landscape.
The photo wasn't producing properly and had to use the camera flash.
BLAM! It was done.
When I exited, it was raining, which kind of blew my mind.
Was sunny as when I entered.
Did not get to try the puzzle due to the rain, but will return asap.
Enjoyed this.
Cheers.

Day 11 on our holiday in New Zealand. Today we are going from the area of Wellington to National Park Village. We also visited this Virtual and took the requiered photo and added it to the log.

Wanted to add some stops on our way to Wellington. One was in Pukerua.
We were not aware, that New Zealand had also built such fortifications for WWII. Have seen many in Europe.
Thank you for showing us this place and merry Christmas

Passing through Pukerua bay today, on our way home after another mission trying to knock off a bit more of the Kiwi GeoTrail.
11th cache of the day and a nice familar location for us as we very nearly rented a house down here many years ago. No problems completing the requirements to log this Virtual Cache. See pic attached....
TFTVC and for the interesting bit of history on the cache page.

nice sunny day out crawled in and got spooked out.i could nearly stand up in the bunker but not quite.im adding a photo of me in the bunker.
Out and about with LL113 (+Miss 9) and TrinityNZ, chasing the local Earthcache for Earthcaching day. Couldn't resist doing this interesting Virtual along the way. TFTC
Heading back from the Earthcache further around the beach for International Earthcache Day and stopped off to gain the required photo to log this virtual afterwards. Miss 9 (UnicornLex) had a great time exploring inside the bunker and gathering the questions for the nearby mystery cache.
An enjoyable adventure to fold my old body into a shape to meet the target, yep, still got it. Will add pic to this found it log. Even remembered to log the puzzle cache too, v=cheers Todd.
mrs c has to head to the UK to catch up with family, the planned trip next Thursday has been hastened to be today so a run down to Wellington Airport was todays trip, and not much caching was planned as getting there was the main priority. Once the destination was made, and mrs c was ready for departure I made a selective way back home, with just a couple of quality caches on the list, and not too many finds were made. The weather threatened rain ALL day, and it was always there in the background. Thanks to all COs, esp. the 4 Virtual cache placers.

One of three caches we collected along here on a chilly Sunday afternoon walk with the geohound. I crawled inside here to collect answers for the puzzle cache, then back on the outside realised I had to do it all over again for this virtual. Oh what fun! #5164. TFTC.
The places we get to with geocaching! It was a lovely day for it, very hard to get the photo with exposure on my name as well as the bright sea.
Perfect day to find a few caches in the area. Our family friend fell asleep on the bench above as I completed this cache and worked on the mystery cache with my dad.
#10,888. I recall coming here to do your mystery cache. Back in 2015 I see from my online log. Its interesting to see these coastal defences. There is an adventure lab set up around similar pill boxes near Taiaroa Head on Otago Peninsula. This one required a bit of a scramble to get inside. I am not as nimble as others so I had to crawl inside rather than enter doing the limbo dance. I managed to read the instructions properly and so wrote my name on a scrap of paper and photographed it. Thanks tmann421 for highlighting the history around this beach settlement. Everytime I drive into Pukerua Bay now I always notice the pillbox next to the highway.
Well that was an interesting Virtual with a difference. A beautiful afternoon to visit Pukerua Bay, thanks tmann421
Great spot to visit to learn some more about local history. Thanks for helping us find it. With . KTG
On a Mish today with KTG to log some caches (yay for no rain) photo added of my username (The tattoo is a rhino, South African flag for the RSA). TFTC
Enjoying a bike ride along here exploring the area, and this looks cool. Crawled in but the lighting was rubbish later in the day, so photo from more side on, TFTC
Awesome spot I've driven past so many time but never knew about the bunker here. Stunning day out. Mind your head getting in and out. Obligatory photo attached...
Exploring the coast with CrystalFairy and stopped to crawl into this bunker. Thanks for a fun place to explore tmann!
Fabulous afternoon out and about in Pukerua Bay. Fulfilled the requirements, although a tricky photo to take successfully; my name is slightly out of focus. Tftc!
Adding another Virtual to GC4Y17G The NZ Virtual Challenge. With this one, just one more to complete the Waikato challenge, although I have only 15 of the extant original 22. Thanks for the interesting placement and Congratulations on being awarded one of the 4,000 Virtual Rewards.
Had a nice expedition to pukerua bay tonight to collect several caches head before we head back to the Waikato tomorrow. Have had amazing weather down here and thoroughly enjoyed doing lots of caching. Thanks for setting this one up
Day 16 - Labour weekend extended road trip - these last few days north of the ditch catching up with family and pre caching haunts.
We lived on Rawhiti Road for a few year last century, but somehow didn't come down here very often. Mugglish hubby remembers trying to keep the kids out of here, I don't but his memory is better than mine!
Quite hard to get the camera to focus on both the name and the view, so hopefully the pics are enough.
I only looked at the puzzle after I had come out, so in I went again. A DNF on that one due to a muggle on her deck seeming quite interested in what I was doing, so walked away rather than compromising the find.
Thanks for the cache tmann421

On my way from Feilding to Wellington visiting mostly AdLabs along the way.
A bit of a struggle to enter but surprisingly roomy inside. Pity that I didn’t read the Mystery cache description before I exited. So two visits it was!

I was visiting Pukerua Bay to do an Adventure Lab, a traditional, a mystery and a couple of virtuals. It was a very warm and calm spring day - perfect for a walk along a beach and back. Hope nobody saw me crawl into the bunker! (Particularly as it took me quite a while to sort the photo out.) TFTC.
I had parked my snail shell in the nearby NZMCA park and zoomed out to Pukerua Bay in my cachemobile to try and find a few caches.
This was not good for my wonky knees.
Cheers for the cache.

Didn’t have any paper so improvised with the husbands phone. TFTC, my son loved it!
A lovely day for a walk in the sunshine. Nice to meet Mrs Seabreeze outside the pillbox. Photo attached. I have two more with the label blowing away in the breeze.
Good grief! That sure took me out of my comfort zone- and went in twice as well . First for the mystery and took a lovely photo of Kapiti and second for a photo with my name. Oh the things geocaching has got me doing!!! Thanks tmann
I had headed down to Wellington today to attend a CCE in Khandallah, and naturally I wanted to make the most of my day in the big smoke.
The weather had decided it was going to try to scupper my plans, and make things interesting, but I don't mind a bit of wind and rain (in moderation) and certainly wasn't going to let it stop me from looking for a few caches.
I was on my way home now, with daylight fading fast (as it will do on pretty much the shortest day of the year) but I figured there's always time for another cache I haven't been along this little walkway for a few years now, so it was good to find myself here today in spite of the fading light and miserable weather.
I've been inside this bunker before, on a previous excursion before this cache was published, so I knew what to expect and it was no issue getting inside again today. A quick photo later and I was back to the car before the next wave of rain hit
Thanks for the virtual cache.

I love this old WWII and 1885 relics. If I ever get another adventure lab I will do a series on them. Or at least, on the emplacements around Wellington - I reckon there are enough for two - one dedicated to The Russians are coming! and the other dedicatted to The Japanese are coming!
Gets a fave.
Gets a fave.
Really nice place to stop on the drive home. Solved the puzzle cache while we were here but way too busy to find it today. Will come back another time! TFTC
Driven past here many times, but never stopped here. Lovely view of Kapiti island today, which makes a change from all the cloud and fog in Wellington. TFTC!
#12,422. Enjoyed another interesting visit to Ocean Parade in Pukerua Bay, Porirua.
We visited GC55GB6 Machine Gun Emplacement (Pukerua Bay) back in June 2014. Great to return seven years later to this Second World War arrow-head pillbox machine gun post.

A lovely morning up on the coast today. I detoured down to the beach and checked out things here. Scrambled into the Pillbox and took the required snap shot. Cheers and TFTC
A lovely walk along the beach this afternoon. Wasn’t too sure about how I’d get inside the bunker, but luckily being short has some advantages! Quite peaceful in here as it turns out. TFTC
Visiting this area today for a few caches, and this was one of them. A wee bit of a struggle for a six foot five Yeti to get in here, but that's what hands and knees are for. Only banged my head a couple of times.
Flew over from Nelson yesterday for a quick trip to find a few geotour caches, making my way back towards the airport and couldn't resist a virtual. Managed to wack my head on my way out from the pill box. Thanks tmann421

We visited Pukerua Bay today and saw this virtual. Being small and agile was a great asset, bending and shuffling in. Not as gross inside as I expected. Thanks for the virtual tmann421
Congratulations on your virtual award..sadly I am not that flexible any more so it was indeed a scramble.
thanks Tman421 for setting this cache

A bit of a grovel for older bones to get into the post, but once in, easier to move. Photo attached.
Very glad these things never had to be used in combat!

Decided to try and meet the requirements for a challenge so visited the bay today to get this Earthcache. Thanks CO for the cache.
Thanks tmann421 for placing this Virtual cache here
After a long morning of visiting my Dad in hospital it was refreshing to visit this area, walk along the beach and find a few caches.
Wish I had taken the plunge and gone for a swim too!!

Quickly found the pillbox and quick crawl had me inside. Nice and spacious inside. Not so nice a day today with the sea being a bit rough. Thanks for bringing me here.
Out for a wander around Pukerua Bay this evening and what a stunning evening. Cannot remember when I last saw the sea this flat. Scrambled my way in and grabbed the required photo. Thanks for the virtual.
I am logging this virtual hide as my 7000th milestone!
Thanks for placing it here.
I like to get "special" icon to celebrate this achievement.

A nice quick find thanks. My photo missed the island, whoops.
Ms_KR and I are on our annual pilgrimage to Auckland for our family Christmas. Today are driving from Palmerston North to Wellington. Please excuse the generic logs, there have been a few finds and they get muddled up sometimes.
Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. Cheers.

A day caching in and around Wellington. A little detour on my way home to get this interesting Virtual. FP. Thanks tmann421 for this virtual cache.
As described it was a tight squeeze getting into the pillbox but not for Flowerydaze. The light was a bit tricky but I think the name is visible enough to satisfy requirements.
We got a few strange looks from passing muggles when we extracted ourselves from the bunker, ah well that's the joy of Geocaching. TFTC

Out and about with Talla64. There was more room in this pillbox than we'd imagined and it was not such a tight squeeze to get inside. I'd prepared a couple of signs with our names on, and we placed them on the concrete sill of the bunker. The gentle zephyr of a breeze caused a slight problem with the paperwork and the light was a bit tricky, but hopefully the photos fulfill the requirement. We got some strange looks from a passing muggle when we emerged. Thanks for this virtual tmann421. Good fun.
I always love visiting Pukerua Bay, my favourite beach, and have visited the bunker many times. Spent a while faffing around inside trying to get a good photo, was tricky trying to get the light right while holding my sign one-handed! Thanks for the virtual cache.
Another trip down to wellington to grand children's prize giving etc and so i detoured on the way to visit this beach which i have never been to . i scambled on my knees into the pill box but found i could stand / stooped once inside and i could get the photo required but the wind was blowing so i needed rocks to hold the paper down but i managed to get a readable and suitable photo of Kapiti island.
thank you for bring ing me down to this lovely little corner of Wellington coast : )

Been past this many times, but had never been inside it until today. More room inside than I expected. TFTV.
I'm pretty sure I've been in here before for another cache so I knew the entrance was 'tricky' but we managed to get in. Thanks for the nice
Staying a few nights in Palmerston North for a 5 day long weekend, with a long-time mate who shifted to PN in 2014 then several events and adventures have been organised by Manawatu cachers to replace the 2020 MEGA that never happened due to Covid-19. Much to look forward to.
I came down this way from PN to get the oldie cache in Q.E park then down further again to pick up this virtual and another not too far away. I have been to this pillbox before with Rebel98 and rustynz and supernanny, about 4 years ago now, and we did the C.O's Machine Gun Emplacement mystery cache. Nice to be back, I see the concrete box is getting further into the sea. Now to head back towards PN and make a start on the Stickman series.
I took a photo inside the box and moved on. Thank you for bringing me here again.

Woops, just realised my photo is pointing to the north but definitely in the bunker.
Thanks for the cache

I enjoyed my visit here this morning very much. I'd been inside the pillbox years ago when the kids were little and it was great to visit it again. Amusingly I managed to get myself turned around inside the structure and ended up exiting through a ridiculously small entrance .
This seemed to be a very good use of your virtual cache tmann, a fascinating place where a traditional cache wouldn't be feasible. Thanks very much for the placement, favourite point added.

While heading slightly further north it was an ideal time to stop at Pukerua Beach for some lunch and find a couple of new caches. Wondering why this was so familiar I realized there an unknown cache starting here from the same CO! This is, IMO the right way to do a virtual, no arcane questions, no selfies, just proof of visit and done. Not that this was over and done quickly though because first my phone went nuts and had to be restarted, then the extremely high dynamic range of the view caused some issues so I did some experimenting to try and get a decent photo. My camera app even has an HDR mode but of course it didn't work. So a lot of faffing around for no benefit. The very first "snap" I took was the best of the bunch. Thanks for bringing me here again.
Nice spot for a cache although I seem to remember it being easier to get inside on my previous visit.
Having no paper with me to write my name on, I attempted the best I could to take a photo with it on my hand.
Another well deserving FP given
