Up in Whangarei for a few days and today we picked up a lot of caches through walking around the river walkways and up Parihaki summit. Really enjoyed this walk and of course its a bonus to pick up a virtual and a trad at the top! Didnt have time to do the multi as well unfortunately. Answers on the way to the CO, thanks for setting this up
Staying overnight at an Airbnb not very far away I took a wander up the road to capture a few caches before dinner.A lovely summit and well worth the walk on a warm spring evening.Lovely views, a bit of history, and a smattering of caches, including this one.Answers sent to the CO and now logging with permission. Thanks vistra#4739
After the steep walk up we loved the views at the top so definitely took our time enjoying those before starting on completing the requirements of this cache. Mrs B is now logging all the finds for the day while Mr B is out ... so photo will be added as soon as he returns. Thanks for the excuse to have a walk today!
I am in Northland for 3 days with my research group from the University of Auckland - we're all students in the final semester of our BSc in Geography, and we're interested in community freshwater restoration projects in Northland. After talking to a bunch of council representatives this morning and visiting Ōtuihau to learn about river quality monitoring, we went for a walk up Parihaka to see the views. It was nice to stretch out and get some fresh air after lots of time in the car and in stuffy meeting rooms... and to get a cache too.

Shaka U2 trackable at Parihaka lookout. A wonderful view of the places we've been around Whangarei, and the many more places we want to go to next time we visit!
WOW for the history and the view. Thank you so much for bringing me here. I have leant a lot.
I’m on a roadie north to complete the PWGT and find other interesting caches - oldies, puzzles and ones at interesting places.
Kia ora rawa atu for the cache vistra.

Thank you for this Virtual cache, vistra.
Parihaka is one of those places I seem to visit every time I come to Whangarei. Not such a good day today, wind, intermittent rain - but I roused myself & came up here.

Arrived in Whangarei for a few days of caching fun
With rebel98 and gorby at the summit, we like to do night caches when we can, so tonight we are exploring the lights of Whangarei.
Its a fine evening, and the city twinkles down below. We are not alone, a few muggles are about enjoying the views too. A little chilly, so it pays to be wrapped up with lots of layers.
So torches out, pictures taken, information gathered (for the virtual and the multi), and a trad found nearby too.
Thanks vistra for the hide, congratulations on being awarded the Virtual, a fun find for us tonight.
Answers have been sent to the CO, on behalf of rustynz and rebel98

What a lovely walk up from Riverside Drive. The legs are feeling it a bit, but the caches up here are a great excuse to sit for a while, and enjoy the sunshine and the views.
Thanks for putting a virtual up here
Thanks for putting a virtual up here
I'm up in Whangarei for 2 nights, Friday and Saturday, for a few reasons: 1. A CITO organised by Riser5, 2. Rustynz's 8000th milestone cache on Mnt Manaia, 3. I have been wanting to see the new Hundertwasser museum, 4. 8 earth caches as part of a challenge cache from the USA.
Having accomplished these goals I still have a few more targeted caches inc this one. I was quite cheeky! I was able to kill 2 birds with one stone by coming here. The virtual and a WP of an ad lab in town. I usually like to come up and see the view from Parihaka so was able to do that too.
Thanks for the virtual vistra, excellent questions all sorted, and sent.

Mrs Jag and I had made a plan to do a few days geocaching in Whangarei.
We stayed in terrific accomodation near here...so decided to come and do this virtual after having a lovely glow worm encounter not far away.
Really enjoyed getting the easy answers from the boards....Luckily we had torches as it was night time!
Thanks Vistra for having your Virtual here...and sharing the story of your Maunga .
You might need a magnifying glass to see me in this photo!

After attending an event with Supernannny to celebrate Rusty's 8000th find, we made a plan to complete the Whangarei adventure lab. One of the waypoints took us to Parihaka, so we gathered the information by torchlight for this virtual. (S/N has sent answers on our behalf).
It was a beautiful still and clear evening with an amazing full moon. As we approached the carpark at the top of Parihaka, there was a car with a group of people around it. We stopped to check they were ok (which they were, but were just needed a special type of battery for their remote and were waiting for someone to bring one for them).
We had no problems finding the answers after admiring the stunning views of Whangarei.
FP for setting up this virtual.

We are spending a couple of days caching around Whangarei with Team Welsh, with our focus on puzzles and other caches that look like fun.
It's been a while since we have been up Parihaka, so we have not seen the lookout viewing platform before. Wonderful views of Whangarei from here! Great to see that, and the interesting information sign boards that are also new additions for us. I was paricularly interested in the name question, as Parihaka is not the name I have known since my childhood for this mountain. I have wondered a few times in the recent past when seeing the name Parihaka if I had just mis-remembered the name, but now I understand that it has changed, and the reason for the change. Thanks for the incentive to come up here gain.

This is a great virtual placement and well worth doing. Amazing views from here and we had lots of fun with the answers which have been sent to the CO. Thanks Travis for creating this virtual for others to experience.

This was quite an involved virtual cache but very interesting, great views across the area. Thank you for your efforts involved in setting up this Virtual cache. (Yes, Mr Geckoh always looks that scruffy, not just when we have been on the road for a few days) TFTVC

TfTC great history great views what else can u say now getting night photos
With time limitations we drove to the top and had an enjoyable time finding the information we needed. What a fantastic view from up here. Thanks for placing this virtual, it was well worth the visit.
Haven't been up here for a long time. Super interesting to learn more about Parihaka, whangarei and its surroundings with the info boards. TFTC
Knocked off around lunchtime and decided to go for a walk and grab some caches.
Always a great view from the top, and it wasn't too busy up the top do easy to get the information required.
Thanks for putting this cache together.

1279. 8:38 am. Today is the last Dot Day that I needed to complete all 366 days! I had saved this virtual geocache for just this moment as I didn't want to have another year pass by if I couldn't find a local traditional or if the weather on the day turned out to be absolutely terrible. We dropped off the smallest &Co and my BH and then eKitten, GRAkiWi and I headed up to the peak. We enjoyed the short walk to the lookout and finished completing the questions. Afterwards we played a quick game of "where is ..?" a local landmark before snapping a picture with the golden dome of the new Hundertwasser centre in background and then heading off to for a few more finds before the rain set in. FP. TFT(virtual over Whangārei and the)C(that completes my calendar).
Up here on a clear beautiful day and get the details for this Virtual, answers have been sent and accepted. A really good use of the award here and a worthy placement means a second FP of the week for this CO. Picture will be added shortly.
A trip up to Whangarei which was on, then canceled, then on again. We woke up to yet another frosty day - 4 in a row I think, but the promise also of a blue sky day. We packed up a few things and headed North with a plan for a nice lunch out and a few modest numbers of caches, also grabbed a couple of ad lab caches. I was also hoping to tick my Riser5 cache finds up and over 100 for an upcoming possible Challenge cache to set. Alas 3 Riser5's for the total leaving me on 99 finds, but it wouldn't be a trip to Northland without a Riser cache as I've said (a number of times previously). Thanks to all COs for their caches.

While I sit to ponder my next move amongst puffing younger people who have just run up to the summit, I got a msge to say my answers were correct. Gr8.
We're staying with friends in Whangarei for the long weekend, and came out for a wet walk up Parihaka before the rain gets even worse this afternoon.
The rest of the group took off and left Miss Five and me trailing behind, but we caught up with them at the top and I gathered the info for this cache. Thanks!

Just realised I forgot the photo, sorry!! Here's one of the kids enjoying the view. Thanks again!
Good to read all the info boards up here, too many times we just look at the view and move on. Thanks.
It was time to drive up to the top of the hill and gather the info required to answer the queries.
It was a tad blowy up here today.
Cheers for the cache.

Fortunately for me, the CO has a car and drove me to the top. Amazing view of Whangarei from up here and a great spot for a geocache. A FP from me.
After walking up the track, it was neat to take in the views up here, and a couple of caches to do as well. Info sent to the CO, TFTC
Just a brief visit to Whangarei with time to drive up and see the view and find the answers for the virtual. I have always enjoyed coming up here and spending the time to read all the information was well worth the return trip. Thanks Vistra for this interesting virtual cache, it’s a favourite.
I've been here many times but I always enjoy it. I grew up with the old name so I always have to remind myself of the new name. My last visit was with a group of geocachers doing Nicks new labs and celebrating the end of 2020.
I'd been saving this for a dot day but I really wanted the two cache's up here for my solar system stamps. I've been making slow progress on these stamps with the last 15 caches having nothing I needed. I was early for work so I walked down to the Ross Moss cache today as well so that was fun. Thanks for your virtual caches on this special mountain

Great place to visit and read the panels but not so great for views today thanks to the misty weather. A lovely place regardless.
I was sent up to Whangarei for 3 days to finish off some work that we couldn't complete before the Christmas holidays. Luckily for me, I was sent up here by myself, which meant I could take the rental out and get some geocaches after I had finished for the day.
After finishing work for the day, I headed to my hotel to change and then drove straight up to the lookout. It was a nice walk to the top even in the heat. It was quite busy with lots of walkers and runners. Great views from up here and it was nice to see the lookout which I could see from my hotel room.
Thank you for bringing me up here.

Came up here for a bit of a change after being inside for a few days, lovely lookup and I’m sure I’ll be here many more times, TFTC
I was up here gathering information for a new adventure lab and decided to do this virtual at the same time. We sat in the shade by the memorial for a bit and some tourists stopped to take a picture of the memorial. The photographer said, "I can't fit that in one picture, I will take a video". I suggested she use the panorama setting which she did and was most grateful for that top tip. Answers have been sent and the picture is my mini-me as it is difficult to include the GPS as it is also the camera. TFTC.
While out and about for the NYE event and adventure lab light tour we took the opportunity to get this virtual. I love that we have the opportunity to find new Virtuals and Whangarei has a few now, all in great points of interest.
We ended up here as the sunset and it was beautiful ...have sent answers to CO....thanks for the cache.

Found while working the back way up Parihaka. A few scrapes on the way but made it! TFTC
Had some spare time and my son up from Dunedin for the week. So headed up the hill to collect the answers for this virtual. Soon had the answers required and then enjoyed the fantastic views of the city. TFTC
Completed this geocache by accident after finding ourselves at the lookout. Well documented historical signboards.
What a fantastic place for a Virtual cache. I too grew up in the shadow of Parihaka and then for the last 25 years, have looked out over the balcony to this iconic Whangarei landmark. Definitely one of my favourite spots and I use the walking tracks to the summit regularly, as they make a great training jaunt.
I think Murphy must have been on holiday this morning, as he missed a great chance to catch me out. I was supposed to be heading north for a sporting event and would have normally left at 7:45 and would then have missed this new rare cache type being published just 15 minutes later. However, I didn't go and after a lazy sleep in, was pondering on whether to do my exercise early or late today. The beeping on my phone announcing this new Virtual sealed the deal, so I grabbed my gear and headed out the door to the Rurumoki St parking.
I couldn't believe how full the carpark was this morning. Seems plenty of other people were also doing their exercise in the cool of the morning. After a 23 minute ascent up the Drummond track, I reached the summit and quickly gathered the answers and sent them to the CO and was very pleased to be able to log the FTF at 9:00, exactly one hour after being published. Definitely gets a FP from me.
With the logging task out of the way, I carried on down the Ross track to do a check on my L/box cache in Dundas Rd, then back up to the summit again and back down to Mair Park via the Dobbie track, by which time it was certainly starting to warm up and time to head home. TFT(V)C
