WA Big Trip Winter 2024. Day 7 - Jamestown to Whyalla via Caltowie , Melrose, Wilmington and Pt Augusta. I spent the morning doing a caching lap of Jamestown, including a previous DNF. Then I was on the road. I managed to stop regularly and in each of the small towns I passed though to do some of the caches along the way. As I went further west it began to warm up. I was very cold In Jamestown last night. I did some Labs in Melrose and in Whyalla before getting set up for the night and going on a short tour around town. I managed three caches on the final leg of my drive to Whyalla. Lots of crackly, prickly, seedy bushes to deal with but three caches found. I wonder how long the old bridges will lay here abandoned ?Thanks for the cache Ferret5246516.31 TNLNVisited: World Traveling Gold GC A#6 & 2012 Egypt A#236**Albida**
Caching from WA west coast to SA for the leap year mega. TFTC. Nice to grab another one of these bridges.
Quick find here today on my way past, cache was easily found and is all goodWith a few days off I headed over to the northern Eyre peninsula for a 2 night stay in Whyalla, my main aim for the few days was the FITG and the FTF trail plus finding a few caches here and there along the way. Just under 300 caches found for the trip. Thanks for the cache
Out caching with my caching buddy, MrsShep77, and our faithful drivers. Thanks for the great hides.
Tracking down stray caches as I’m
Working in the area. Quick easy find.

A quick find with frmen1. The new road is certainly in better condition than this old section. Braved the cache guardian whilst frmen1 cheered on lol TFTC
Found after a short search with tassie expat while exploring this interesting area and passing through. Tftc
found on the way home form the Kutta Kutta Kaching Kaos June Long Weekend Event. At least the traffic was better on the way home even if the road works didn't improve. I detoured off my planned route home since the caravan in front of me was driving me nuts. quick find. And as a bonus i didn't catch the caravan before stopping in port Augusta for lunch.
All logs where stamped or written as " JAMS " ( JJ52, Allister W, Mogni, and Sir_spectre ) plus Tallbikestan for this trip. I forgot to get the JAMS stamps out and they where in my geocaching bag and that was buried in the back of the car, so the first section of the trip was done by pen on the log sheets. The JAMS crew were off to the June Long Weekend Event in Kyancutta via Whyalla. As any geocacher would understand Whyalla is on the way, you just go to follow those green dots down the road. Left some caches for every one else to find in Whyalla. The JAMS crew came 5th on game day of the June Long Weekend, 4th was only 1 point in front of us.

Driving past this one realised oops forgot to log this one slack female missed logging too much talking but now logged found while on way to JLWE in Kyancutta
Found while on a JLWE and Maralinga trip. We found caches our our way to Maralinga and also found caches on our way home. I had a great time seeing places I had never seen and finding caches along the way. TFTC

Another quick find en route to Whyalla. This series has been on the agenda for a while. All good. Thanks Ferret52.
Adelaide to Perth Roadtrip.
Day One: Adelaide to Iron Knob.
Weather: perfect.
Accommodation for the night sorted at Nuttbush, I decide to backtrack to the two caches at the A1/B100 junction to round out the last of the daylight. This is my second Old Whyalla Road Bridgeof the day - alas not quite enough daylight to venture a bit further to get #3, but it’s always good to have something to come back for.
Thanks again Ferret52.

What an epic journey we have had, just returned home from the holiday of a life time, we managed to catch up with PP2 for some caching at times, oh the memories and laughter!! Now it's time to catch up with the logging, thank you to every CO who has placed caches for us to find along the way TFTC
Left you another pathtag. You will have my full set soon. No point in taking them home with me, I did bring them to leave in SA. TFTC Ferret52
Another cache that helps with a challenge I’m trying to complete
Loving this holiday where the only plan is to chase the cache.

It's birthday week for the cats so Purrfect Di and Mattycat decided to go do some birthday caching and see what we can unwrap in the way of log books. Yours was one we found along the way, with the help of Jack. A fun drive north west ish with a whole bunch of fresh smilies!!!
Another nice old bridge out of service now but useful as a hide for trolling cachers!
Sincere appreciation goes to Ferret52 for placing and maintaining this cache on our geo game map

Searching around every day finding and signing using some or all of the resources of GSAK (Geocaching Swiss Army Knife), Whereyougo, Garmin Montana 750i, Montana 680t, Etrex 35, Samsung S20+, Samsung S9, with Geocaching App, c:Geo, or Geooh Go, and Android Auto and other maps... or often with just plain old dumb luck Quite a lot of that actually!!!
*Logs are composed and published using GSAK of course.*
---
Please do stay as safe as possible when caching.
Keep a lookout for bogs, snakes, surprise cliffs, boxing roos, wombats, bulldust, and floods,
try not to get tetanus from rusty mint tins and don't fall out of trees...
-- -- -- -- -- -- -- but especially lookout for bugs from alpha to omega !!! . [xx(]
Try to keep Travel Bugs as the only bugs you share and pass on
Now our borders are open - even more important to sanitise and safely distance!!!
Much appreciation of all those placing quality caches out and about around the countryside,
in sensible safe places especially! - it keeps our game safe, fun, and interesting

A great caching start to Twenty Twenty Too

I drove across this bridge many times in the 60's and 70's. The bridge was closed about 1976 when the current alignment was finished. The troll is much shorter here. Probably half troll, half hobbit.
I will apologize right now, because everything from here on is here solely for the purpose of padding the word count.
The cache was found in the last place we looked, which as usual was not the first place we looked. Thanks for placing a fun cache guys. We do love your work. We signed the logbook. Of course we did that is way we play this game. Cache in pretty good condition for the cache age.

Easter 2020 was supposed to see South Australia Geocaching hosting the next Easter big MEGA event, GeoVenture 2020 at Millicent. GC82DAN. Due to COVID restrictions the event is now postponed to early October 2021. Check out the event page and our website for new details. We would love to see you at this four day event. Mega event sponsored by Wattle Range Council, Geocaching.com and many other supporters. Lots of caches to find with two classic geo art trails including the famous animated bottle and glass.

This particular geocache was found using one of the following GPS enabled devices, Garmin GPSr, Montana 680t, Oregon 650 or Dakota 20 and a Samsung S8. Waypoints and paperless geocaching were downloaded via GSAK 9. Log prepared, checked and submitted using GSAK publish logs...
Warning, this hobby can be addictive. It can lead to exercise, meeting new people and finding interesting places you might not have known existed otherwise. Beware: you may have fun.

This weekend, I headed to Whyalla to catch up with a few other Geocachers and attempt some of the trails there. On Saturday, we targeted the FTF power trail from Whyalla to Iron Knob, and then spent the evening and the subsequent morning driving some of Whyalla's back tracks. On Sunday, I visited Cowleds Landing and back north, only to get severely bogged in one of Whyalla's clay pans. I then returned home via the August series.
Today, I travelled from Adelaide to Whyalla, making a few brief stops along the way. I needed to arrive at Port Augusta for the geocaching event, and after having dinner, I made the slow approach to Whyalla finding the geocaching trails along the old road, including *Port Augusta's First PT* series, arriving rather late.
I was looking out moreso for orb spiders and their webs, rather than trolls on my hunt to this geocache. Other than those annoyances, this turned out to be a quick find. The cache container and logbook were in good shape. Thanks Ferret52 for the cache placement and ongoing maintenance.

The bridge still looks like it could take the strain.
Thanks Ferret52 and clear skies from TeamAstro. ️ Cache the planet!
Today we went further west. We were able to search for and find one or the other geocache again. The highlight was GC178, a geocache that is still needed for the Jasmer Challange. But ALSO GC997 was searched and found. Thank you to the owners for laying and maintaining the cans.
Easy find
Have spent 9 days at the 17th National Caravan Rally in Albany.
Was so enjoyable seeing all the local sites.
Now heading east towards home.

As we headed south from Port Augusta towards Port Lincoln, we stopped to look for this cache. Accurate coordinates and the hint led to a quick find. The cache and contents were in good condition. Thanks Ferret52 for this and the other two Old Whyalla Bridge caches.
Found during a tour of the Gawler Ranges and Eyre Peninsula for the week, on a route that saw us traveling to Kimba, Streaky Bay, Tumby Bay, Cleve and Whyalla and camping out near Secret Rocks, Kolay Hut (Gawler Ranges), Pildappa Rock, Port Kenny and Yeldulknie Weir (Cleve), all the while finding caches along the way. Thanks for the cache Ferret52!
