Thanks heaps for the challenge to wander the loop track, swung by this and there were plenty of likely flakes but eventually I found the right one. Great to see this oldie being maintained in great condition. Tftc.
Today, my three daughters and two granddaughters went out with me to Mt. Cannibal Reserve. We tried to get up but kept slipping because of the green moss on the rock but managed to get up. They enjoyed the outing and encouraged my granddaughters to find and sign the log. fav from me.Thank you for placing the cache DGS AUS.
Second loop around Mt Cannibal today - first loop with non-geocaching friends. So after delicious lunch in Garfield, returned to go exploring. Glad I did, got to experience great views and walk all over again. Cache easily found and in good nick. Thanks for the cache BigglesBear and thanks also to DGSAUS for keeping this early cache going. Loved and amazed that a geocaching log could survive fires - thanks for including the singed log in new container to remind us all that there can be resilience. regardskbucky
With Wombatwandering on our first day Melbourne to Canberra for the Mega and lovely to ne in this restful area, with great views. We came via Gippsland to get a couple of 2001 hides but this was a nice stop-off.
I liked the story behind this cache. Amazing it survived the fires. Walking around Mt Cannibal with ConnieandRick. We skipped one of the caches because we still have a long drive ahead of us and didnt fancy another bush bash but had to stop for this golden oldie. Thanks very much for maintaining it.
Found this cache on a walk this morning, beautiful day for it. Thanks for placing this cache!! Pretty easy find once we knew where GZ was
Went out for a family walk to Mt Cannibal including my mum in the afternoon..
Grabbed all the caches in the area.
Great views to be had also. Started getting busy as we were leaving..
This cache was a great hiding spot. Bit too much info given away in the description in my opinion ( I only read it at home ) ??

On a road trip from Melbourne to Gippsland and this looked like a good place to stop for a walk. A bit of a trek up the hill but a great view when we got there! TFTC!
At the time of the log, this was the fifth oldest cache we had ever found.

After the fire's in 09 the path was rebuilt. This cache is now a bit harder to find. The container is awsome in great condition. The loog book dates back to 2002!!! It's starting to fall apart but awesome to see!!!!
Todays task was to get myself from Geelong to Paynesville. Decided to leave at stupid o’clock and see what caches I could find in the way down, primarily targeting gaps in Jasmer, Hidden date calendar & anything else that took my fancy.
After chasing Bunyips in Bunyip, I took a cursory glance at the map before continuing onwards with my Journey. And that is how I found myself at Mt Cannibal. Letterboxes, a golden oldie & some terrain stars to boot? Sure. Not sure I have time, but lets go have a look anyway. Very glad I did, what a stunning place to be for an early morning walk.
This was my first stop on the route - a small jaunt off the path got me in the general vicinity then time to put the bouncing GPS away and let the geosenses kick in which led to a quick find. Always nice to find a golden oldie, thanks to DGS for keeping this one on the map.

We needed some exercise and decided to visit this area and pick up a few caches as a bonus.
We took a rather complicated way down to the cache but it is such a great area that we didn't care.
A great walk, great views and some decent exercise as well. What else can you ask for!
Thanks DGSAUS and Biggles Bear for bringing us to this fantastic place that we would not have discovered without the caches here. A favourite point from us.
Chiefton!!!

This was my last cache to locate at Mt Cannibal - I briefly sat down on one of the benches and fuelled up before attempting this one. I highly recommend visiting My Cannibal this place is amazing and we'll worthy of a visit or two. I was surprised but not disappointed with were this cache was hidden..and thankfully I found it without too much trouble unlike the previous cache. Hours later I'm still itching from all the tree bits that I ended up carting home with me ..a very memorable day. TFTH. Picture attached taken from one of the rocks in the distance you can see Gumbya World.
YAPIDKA again - and a really nice well loved little park with fine views and surprising landscape of granite. Headed up here with Crustyvarmint and son so was in jolly good company. Just saw this is a ,golden oldie and deserves a special clap for longevity!. And a fave. TFTC and the fun
Our last find for the day, with Mummy Short Legs perched up at the top of the rock, I scaled the steep rock face to find the container. On doing so, we were joined by a few more cachers from the event, and I ended up signing for five of us!
Our final find for the morning after attending the event and we were sprung by other cachers who happily allowed us to sign the log on their behalf. TFTC and for maintaining such an old treasure.
Got to be one of the oldest caches I have found in a long time. Gets a favourite just for that. Nice to see it had been replaced after a few bushfires to come through here since the placement. Tftc tnln
Coming down from 999Hunter's event, we couldn't just pass the caches on the way. Upon approach to the cache, there were plenty of others thinking just the same thing - what fun! As we stood chatting and admiring the landscape, TeamGruidae kindly signed the log for all of us. The name of this cache is a mystery to me, maybe I missed something . I may be back in a couple of months to wish it happy 20th birthday - what an achievement, thanks Biggles Bear and DGSAUS.
you would think
that if i tag along with a previous finder and a previous owner of this treasure, that the whole searching-finding-signing would be a walk in the park
you would think
that the previous finder and previous owner would know the right spot to pull off the track and know the right location for the cache so you wouldn’t spend ten minutes clambering rock faces and peering in crevices only to discover the treasure is still ninety metres down the hill
you would think
but
you shouldn’t overthink these things
in other news: this is the first ever geocache found simultaneously by three people with the same name
think about that

We were in the area for the event up the top, so on the way out, had to make the detour for this oldie which has being on my radar for a long time. Thanks to DGSAUZS for maintaining this old one.

**The Adventure:** On the way down from the nearby event this morning, we had to stop to grab this old cache still in play. Found with Mummy Short Legs, TeamGruidae, Snips and Co, PinkPiggy7, and former finders De Ja Vu living up to their name!
Thanks Biggles Bear and DGSAUS for placing and maintaining this cache for our geo-enjoyment. Cache on

On my way to the event at the top of Mt Cannibal this morning, accompanied by my son and Ronice88, we diverted off the track to locate this cache.
Wearing my backpack, and a wide brimmed hat, I was caught up in the vegetation several times, making hard work of the trek, but I was pleased when we had the log signed.
Thanks for placing it Biggles Bear, and DGSAUS for carrying out the maintenance tasks required to keep such an old cache in play.

We called in with a group of friends and signed the log again. This was our first geocache find over 11 years ago. Great to see it’s still in play.
The description needs to be updated, the case is black not red and white. you have to go into the bush a bit but overall it’s worth getting out of the house.
This requires major stealth, this was so intense but I finally found it! Not exactly like the description describes in terms of cache container, nonetheless I made it
Stopped today for a walk after having driven for 4 hours, just what we needed to stretch the legs.
Only picked up this cache as the weather was looking ominous and we still had a couple more hours driving to get home
We will be back again to find some more at this great little spot!

Thanks for the cache. In good condition. Always nice to find an oldie. Nice walk around the loop during a quick visit to Victoria.

Found this one with tassie expat while exploring this nice area. Just a note about it, it's technically a pretty easy find but the distance is a little deceptive. Tassie and I went counter clockwise, thinking it was the most direct route, and it probably was. See my attached photo of our route. Going up was pretty steep, coming back down heaps easy. Clamber down the main rock as others have said. All up, from the carpark to cache, and straight back down was 1.35 km. Great views, thanks for placing it. We'll do the others another time.
frmen1 thought that we would tackle the easiest terrain cache first, then see how we felt. Up and up and up. Found an easy way down to the right of gz. frmen1 stood at the top, directing me round to the right spot. An easy find before admiring the views. Will come back when we are better equipped (aka fed). Contents in good condition. TFTC
Found 7th Feb 2021
You need to clamber down off the big Boulder and look for smaller flat rocks laying against each other. Container is now black.

This was my first visit to the reserve and my last cache find for 2020
Off the main track, not a sole in sight, and I could have taken up residence on this rocky outcrop for ever!
But I'm here to find a cache
And I must have been on my game cos the cache was in hand in no time
All found in excellent condition. Log stamped, cache returned and another layup on the rock before sadly heading back home
But it is New Years Eve, so HAPPY NEW YEAR to all
Many thanx to ️DGS AUS️ for maintaining this cache. What an excellent location

I had the day to myself so I headed to Mt Cannibal Flora and Fauna Reserve. This was the last cache I looked for here on my way around. I was off my game here. It didn't take long to navigate to GZ but then I was all over the place looking for the final hide. I'm not sure how I missed it on a number of occasions, but once at the right angle it was obvious! In any case the coordinates were spot on - just had to trust them. TFTC and thanks for maintaining this.
Working our way clockwise around the circuit, we picked up some of the other caches along the way, while gathering the information for the Earth cache, and were now on the home straight. The views took our breath away, or maybe that was due to the climbing, but so worth the effort. With a lot more people on these tracks now, it became a waiting game before we could nick off into the bush and start our search. Apparently our geo senses were on a break, so Steve & I both walked around in a daze like fashion for far too long before Steve finally spotted the cache. Phew.
Thanks Biggles Bear for placing this cache and ️DGS AUS️ for the adoption and maintenance.

Enjoyed a walk here on a lovely sunny day. Found this cache after a quick bush bash and scramble down the rock. Thanks for encouraging us to come to this new area for the first time.
Found with geoFam . Took a pathtag and left a swappable. All in good condition. TFTC

First time at Mount Cannibal for me.
Everything was coming well back well after the fires with the eucalypts adorned with epicormic growth after the fires which ravahed here not too long ago. The place is covered in young black wattles (I think) and gaining access to some of these caches here will get very difficult over the next couple of years as the get bigger. But no issues today, as we got to this one without difficulty. Bernie spotted a likely hide, and our mareks are in the book.

I was out with n0w0rries looking for a newly published cache nearby when he told me this cache was on our trek back to the car. It was the middle of the night now, the wee hours of the morning. The slither of the moon could still be seen up in the sky. But the sunrise was not too far away.
With my geo senses on, I managed a quick find of what was a cute container.
Even though it was dark, we could still see the devastation the fire had caused to this area. The trees and plants are showing signs of rejuvenation with new growth protruding from their blackened trunks and limbs. We saw lots of fresh poo and lots of burrows suggesting some of the wildlife has also slowly returned to again to establish their new homes here.
Cache and Log in good condition.
Thank you for the cache here 999Hunter

We're staying in the campground at Bunyip for the week and while M attended to a phone conference he couldn't avoid, I decided to come for a walk and check out Mt Cannibal.
My, that's steep! I enviously watched a few runners slogging their way up the hills but since I'm still coughing from a chest infection, I decided to stick to a more sedate pace.
Besides, it's hard to find geocaches when I'm running [:p]

We heard Mt Cannibal was reopened, so Toolman and myself went for a stroll. We found what was left of this cache, a giant plastic ball.

TFTC. Little Levi had a quick lucky find. Came down the rock the right way I think to spot very quickly.
Thanks so much! I love this trail and never knew this existed. It was my first geocache find and Rlreading the entries from everyone over the last 17 years got the kid in me so excited. I was 5 when that was placed there!
Over the years, geocaching has taken me on many adventures, including interesting destinations all over my home continent of Australia and many overseas as well. It has also introduced me to a diverse group of like-minded caching tragics, many of whom I now call close friends.
Today, I was lucky enough to be out and about searching for caches, something I do on almost a daily basis. This was one cache that was targeted and found.
Sorry for the late and generic log, something I am notorious for. Thank you Biggles Bearfor adding to the adventure that is geocaching.

Had a nice stroll to the north lookout for a great sunset, continued round to the south as it was getting dark, but wasnt too difficult to find even in the fading light.

The night wasn't over and I felt the adventure had just begun when Smokey Bear suggested we go and do DGS Cannibals Haunts. On such a high from my first DGS cache, and not ready to finish off the night yet Smokey Bear suggested we swing by here. This place is just magical at night and you can see stars for miles. Thanks for bringing me to such an awesome place. I must come back during the day and take it all in again. I dropped off a TB.

Came out here to scratch the itch of getting out of the burbs and seeking a recharge amongst the trees. And Mt. Cannibal absolutely delivered....big time! I reckon there’s healing properties in granite. Granite boulders always make me feel alive and amazed and happy.
This was the first amazing boulder that we came across for the day, but certainly not the last as we continued along the full circuit once we were done here.
I hadn’t read the cache description to see the blatant hint before poking around in every crack and crevice on the large outcrop. I was standing with my foot on the “flake” wondering where to look next, when I decided to take a quick peek underneath it and spotted the loot.
Thanks for bringing us to a spot that we’d never heard of before. We will definitely return.

Nice location, and an old log book as well! This was the first cache for the day and it took a little while for my geosenses to kick in. Eventually, approaching the cache from another angle helped me spot the container. Thanks Biggles Bear for keeping this cache going after all these years.
Out caching with HumanMegaWatt and Melski93 for the day, I was paying too much attention to the nearby Earth cache and forgot to look for this one. After about a 200m backtrack we found the cache. Great location!

Working at the soon-to-be-open Gumbuya World. Finished early today and so squeezed in a couple of nearby caches while they were within striking distance.
Quiet day at home. Finished off all I had to do so a walk seemed like a good idea.
Love it up here. Was nice to sit away from the track and enjoy the peace for a bit.
Be careful which way you head out. Almost walked straight into a bee hive.

1/8/17 11:45 am #2402 This was a great little hike up a decent hill and once at GZ took a while to find this as the gps was spinning but i did find something that was horrible ....Some human decided to be a dog and leave a parcel near the cache....I wonder if their owner had any doggy bags....anyway this cache was awesome...Love the area...
Thanks for the adventure....

I woke up with the expectation of going for a walk here but then the wind was so bad I decided not to. After a few hours of mucking about at home I thought stuff it, I'll go have a look. I wasn't expecting the amount of people that were here. A nice walk up the hill before a detour off track to snatch up this little guy.
Cache in good nick. Thanks Biggles Bear

Since moving from New Zealand I have been enjoying the area, exploring and finding caches. I usually cache on my own but sometimes I will collect my nephew stinky bob and my brother stinky tom who both enjoy this hobby.
A big thanks goes out to all the cachers and cache owners without whom this lifestyle would not be possible.
The caches I’ve found in Australia so far have for the most part all been in great condition. Keep up the good work.

I had no idea of the age of this cache! In fact, I had no idea about this cache at all until I ran into 1TOOLMAN just half an hour ago at the Northern lookout.
As I gathered information in reverse order for the nearby Earth Cache, I came down towards this area in fading daylight. I was surprised to see a rather settled muggle on the hill about 50m above GZ in an elbow of the track. I wasn't going to let her stop me! I made a casual detour off the track and as I disappeared out of sight, voices came up the track to meet her.
With the muggles preoccupied, I was now free to search. It took quite a bit of trial and error before I struck gold.
After signing in under some familiar names (I love it when that happens!), I returned to the track. The muggles had gone but now there were gunshots coming from the farmland to the south. I simply took it as a convenient cue to get going! And a good thing I did too, for only 40 minutes later the area was hit by a lightning storm.
Thanks so much Biggles Bear for placing a cache in this sweet location. It is in good condition. And it 'inadvertently' filled another square in my Ausmer Challenge, lol.

Ahhhhh I would not be lying if I said that this cache and the nearby earthcache were not the reason that I came up to this area today at all. Thinking about how I have only a week now before I go back to uni so I thought to myself that I may as well go out and get some more caches in this area.
A late start to todays caching but that really does not matter. Arriving at the carpark in decent time I found myself at gz in no time. Quick little look revealed this little fella in no time. Thanks for the cache and the great views.

This was brutal, and really popular. I was too unfit to make it to the summit, but I did get this cache. I love finding the older ones, and it has a muggle chance of about 0.01%. We need more hides like this! I was thinking about doing the round trip, but my legs refused. Maybe next time...
Heading for Moe and a Canada Day event and had time to spare, so a trip to Mt Cannibal seemed like a good idea. A slow trip up and quickly found the cache. Then on to the top, I couldn't just turn around and head back down! This was a great winter's day and the views could not have been better. Thanks Biggles Bear.
I didn't know this cache was there until I was maybe 100m away. I had been working with caches stored offline on my phone, which meant the nearby earthcache at that instant. While up the mount a refreshed data connection revealed this one on my map, so I decided I'd find my first trad for the day. It was well concealed but nonetheless revealed itself pretty swiftly before I even considered consulting the hint. Having previously noted that the earthcache receives only a modest number of visitors I wondered to myself whether this logbook could be vaguely unloved. No chance. My unofficial doppelganger jimbo_80 had been there some 24 hours previously! Of course. I should have known. Thanks Biggles Bear!
I felt a bit uneasy about the name of this place, Mount Cannibal. Would I make it back home once I found the cache, or become someone's dinner?!
I loved this one - the uphill trek to get the heart pumping, awesome views and nice spot at GZ. And great to see an older cache still going strong, thank you
