We hope you enjoyed exploring and discovering the local history in the communities of Aoetearoa New Zealand. The Tuia Matauranga GeoTour has now ended. Thank you to the community for all the great logs, photos, and Favorite Points over the last 30 months. It has been so fun!
Hint item seemed clear, but want where we expected it to be…
We searched all around in the grass and what not, but we still couldn’t find it.
As so many others said this was easy, we suspect this is missing.

I was led up the garden path towards the caves turned around at 118m to quickly spot the cache near the car. Tftc
Another nice quick find here. This cache was the last I needed of the TMGT caches to complete in the South Island. I'll need to revisit the paperwork to see just how many more I need to complete the whole tour. TFTC # 17,891
What fun trying to retrieve and replace without muggles seeing. Traded a trinket. Tftc

#9321. Its Good Friday. The start of an Easter road trip to the South Island to pick up a swag of geotour caches in Canterbury, West Coast and Otago over the extended Easter break. Doing this trip with caching buddy Infoferret as we decided to share the cost of a rental car and fuel plus share the driving with the long distances planned for this trip. We hired a hybrid car and it was a good choice as it was economical but easily made it through all the long distances with no concerns over fuel tank capacity. Today we are heading to Hokitika via Hanmer Springs, Lewis Pass, Reefton and Greymouth (just 25 litres of fuel used for this day).
The daylight had run out by the time we got to Greymouth after spending quite a bit of time doing the adventure lab up at Brunner Bridge. So IF parked the car nearby and I walked back to the barrier. Found the cache in the first place checked. Signed the logbook and replaced everything as found. Thanks gracie7 + Mum for the cache and giving us yet another excuse to stop on the road to Hokitika.

After hunting at the wrong barrier, we retraced our steps, paid more attention and had cache in hand in no time. Took a wee wander along the river to the caves, very slippy but fun nonetheless! This has been a great way to explore The area. TFTC
Picking up a few caxhes about town I was intrigued by the cave, so gappens there id a cache here too. TFTC
It's hard to imagine that the Māori being in NZ a 1000 years ago, nice piece of history to read about..thanks Gracie7 +Mum for the cache's you have ....your efforts are appreciated
We parked in the freedom camping area and dodged cars to get over here. Better than trying to get the motor home in this tight parking spot. Lunch was beckoning so we didnt check out the cave. Thanks for the cache Gracie7 +mum
Time for my first of 2 visits over to clear up the TMGT and PWGT caches on the West Coast
Was a little unsure on how to get this, as I had parked away from the GZ, and there was a car parked by the intersection, as well as cars and trucks passing by. In the end I opted for the tie the shoelace then sit down to admire the view option, which worked just fine.
TFTC gracie7 + Mum, the cache was found in good order Signed, sealed and returned to GZ. 6 find(s) of 13 today, making this find #2475

Nice quick find. We enjoyed walking into the caves for a look. Not that keen to enter the caves though! Found with KCN. TFTC
Joined with Victoriousone for some caches on this side of the river. Found these multi’s to do and had them quickly worked out and found. Another on this your done.
Doing a road trip as I have to wait for my villa to be refurbished. What better way than doing a road trip geocaching. Thanks for placing and maintaining.

In the area for the day today and the TMGT caches are high on the priority list to finish off. A short walk across the bridge to this one, and another quick and easy find. Signed log, recorded code, TFTC,
I'm in Greymouth for a couple of nights, after hiking the Paparoa Track. I decided to hire a car today to get out and about, explore the area and grab a few caches. Made an early morning visit to this spot and made a quick find of the cache here. TFTC!
I found this cache while on a family holiday to the South Island. We had an amazing time covering more than 3000km and seeing some of the very best our country has to offer. We were very fortunate with the weather and enjoyed a wide range of experiences.
This was my second TNGT cache find of the evening. I took photos of all the logs as I went.

Thank you for placing a cache here found with watcache on a south island adventure. TFTC
Found with NZDi. We are staying at Carters Beach Holiday Camp as a base for a few days geocaching on the Wet Coast. Todays plan is to head to Greymouth picking up as many roadside PnGs as we can, with a few more interesting excursions thrown into the mix.
This is our thirty-fifth cache of the day, and once again we met up with UlmusLynx. This time she still had the cache in-hand so we added our names to the log before she replaced it. We explained to her the significance of the TMGT series of caches and reminder her to record the TMGT code words for the souvenir, (something we promptly forgot to do at the next TMGT cache we found in Greymouth.
This was the last time we met UlmusLynx today, although we came across more of her logs in other caches we found.
A QEF PnG.

In Greymouth for the weekend with lytteltonwitch. We came with a list - to find the TMGT caches, the Adventure Labs series and any other finds were bonuses.
We stopped here as we retiurned to Greymouth after a spectacular high-tide visit to Punakaiki.
Thank you for this cache, gracie7 + Mum.

Arrived in Greymouth on Friday with Taybeedragon, Zara and Toby just in time for dinner after a VERY wet trip in from Reefton. This area is a great place, nice and level, so we left Zara here for the whole weekend. And it is still raining after dinner so I wait... and wait... and bugger this, dash out for a find of another nearby TMGT (the dragon having found it on an earlier trip). Later the rain stopped (and never really reappeared for the whole weekend) and so I headed off to this one as well. The cache location was obvious, but it took 5 minutes to retrieve - waiting for all those cars to go. A block in a bright read raincoat in the middle of the night futzing and highlighted in headlights - yeah, no. I don't think so. I waited for about 30 cars to go by before i felt I could retrieve the cache in safety. It was then that I remembered that this is a TMGT, and so was that other one I just found, so after uploading the codeword, I headed back to that other TMGT for a second find on this one, to get and upload its codeword.
Taybeedragon and I are off on another weekend's exploring - again! This time to the West Coast. the company owes me some time so we left Friday lunchtime. Lots of rain on the way down, but after that it was a nice cloudy-but-not-rainy weekend. It never rains on the West Coast when I come to visit!

Day 5 of my 2020 NZE (New Zealand Experience).
(My apologies for the delayed logging but I'm in catch-up mode)
Seeing as I can't be in America right now, I'm touring around the South Island instead. During my time here I am aiming to find as many of the TMGT caches as I can (preferably all 41) and also as many Virtuals, Earthcaches and Letterbox Hybrids as possible, plus any Trads or others that will fill a hole in my D/T grid, my Jasmer grid, or else the last 3 remaining Hidden Dates on that grid.
Today was going to be one of my favourite drives, up the West Coast taking in all that wonderfully rugged coastal scenery between Greymouth and Westport. I've been lucky enough to do this route a few times, and it never fails to stir my sense of joy and wonderment.
But before I could get that started, there was the small matter of having to find the 5 local TMGT caches. This was my third cache for the day, and the easiest of the three attempted so far this morning. Parking was straightforward, and whilst there was the occasional car passing by, at this time of day there was plenty of space between them for a quick retrieval of the cache, and then replacement after I ad taken it a few metres away for ease of signing the log.
Thanks for placing this cache.

We were passing here today so stopped to check on it on the way passed. The coordinates seemed abit off so we took another reading. The book is nice and dry and not quite halfway. All good here. Happy Caching

We took it a short distance away from the roadside to sign as we fell a bit conspicuous.

Spending a couple of days in Greymouth to do TMGT caches and anything else that's around and relatively easy. Last TMGT over this way and Mrs S made the find here for a chance.
Thanks gracie7 + Mum. Enjoying doing this series and learning even more about our history.

After finding all the Survivor caches that had been published since our last visit to The Coast, we spent the last part of the afternoon finding the geotour caches around Greymouth. Parked quite close to this one and quickly saw where it had to be. The cache page speaks volumes about the cultural sensitivity of those times. TFTC
Quick easy find. TFTC.
What history wasn't expecting that.
Interesting place to come to, would of loved to have walked to the caves near by but didn't have the time to today.
Found with Mr&MrsNZAdventurer.

With Fap and Gap... Late last year, we started to plan for a trip to the South Island - The goal was to complete the TMGT trail.
Christchurch - Westport (Return): Today's trip was a total unknown. We estimated how long it was going to take to reach our destination, but we had no real idea about actual timing. We set our clocks for 6 AM, but we were up well before then... It was difficult to navigate the inner city streets in the dark, and we probably took a few wrong turns. Finally, the road signs started to point to the West Coast, and we were on the way. The flat Canterbury plains gave way to foothills and the Southern Alps. This is an amazing part of the country...
Mawhara Pa would have held a strategic position straddling both sides of the Grey River. A quick roadside find here, and another TMGT claimed. Thanks gracie7 + Mum and TFTC.

This is the last day of StreetWalkerNZ's and my extended Waitangi Day trip to the west coast, and we were pleased to see the day dawn dry and sunny, especially after the patches of rain yesterday.
After a cup of coffee and cheese scone at a local cafe, we were ready to tackle the remaining TMGT caches in Greymouth, as we had still to do the three across the river. This was the first stop. The GPSr was all over the show, but it was obvious where the cache was hidden. I liked the g+m signature embellishment on the container . Not the first finders today, we recognised the names of a couple of NI cachers. TFTC.

Making a long weekend out of Waitangi Day exploring the West Coast with Zara Toby, Bullertrout and Bro. Its Waitangi Day today. Exploring Hokitika, Ross, Hokitika George, Lake Mahinapua, Lake Kaniere areas today. Great time and visited some amazing places. On the negative side got a speeding ticket in Hokitika and munched up Zaras nose.

Found on a three day caching journey over to the West Coast. We really enjoyed the challenging hours spent in solving the many puzzle caches and now the signing off on the log books. We had a great spell of weather as we traveled along the many roads in the area. Many thanks to the various cache owners for placing and maintaining their caches. TFTC
Had a great day on the West Coast todya lots of km's walked, grabbed heaps of caches, and had a lot of fun. Many Thanks Bitsprayer
Team BOP on another crazy mission! Labour Weekend 2019 - flights were booked, plans were made - Waitangi Weekend certainly came around fast. The goal here in the South Island was a combination of Jasmer caches, CANZ Caches, some high favourites and of course - the 41 TMGT caches we’ve got left after clearing the North Island last month.
This tour has been so much more then a challenge or compulsion. The historical significance alone has made it worth the journey and I truly thank all the CO’s for helping to make this happen. TFTC, see you at the Mega ????
