Today we visited this earthcache before leaving Blackall. Petrified wood has always fascinated us, especially when the outcome is a mirror image of what the tree may have been. Answers to the questions have been forwarded to the CO and the required photo is included with this log. Thanks micaparamedic for bringing us to thus very interesting earthcache. It earns a favourite from us.
Found this one wandering around Blackall. Actually visited the stump twice as didn't realize there was an earth cache there until we got wifi.Answers have been sent for me and kiwisteve2.Tftc
Some very impressive examples of petrified wood. Its interesting that they have been spread around the town. Also cool to see the black stump. Now I know I really have been outback.
An interesting earthcache, the examples of petrified wood are amazing. Thanks for the hide and bringing us here.
Nice tidy little town, enjoyed our day here, and the local pub was bustling! Thanks for adding to our Blackall fun. Answers sent to CO.
Been to Blackall for work and have taken Brissy colleagues to the Black Stump on a few occasions. Visiting this time on my own dime with two cachers and found there is now an earthcache here.Looking at the black stump and the main street, now though a geologist's eye. Answers have been sent through by ESCR. Thanks micaparamedic for advertising the black stump and beyond.
Spent a few days in Blackall. A lovely little country town with quite a few interesting places to visit. Have sent my answers to the CO. TFTC
Mr CNQ did a quick solo trip through a few loose ends of QOGM's past. Quiet evening trip through Blackall and an interesting earth cache, thanks for organising it micaparamediic

While travelling through Blackall both to and from QOGM Longreach I visited Waypoint 1, so of course I had to do this Earthcache as well. The stump, in particular, is an excellent example of fossilised wood with many features worth looking at. I only had this photo of me in the vicinity. It helps demonstrate the scale of the stump.
Day 23With the QOGM event now over it was time to continue our journey alone. Exploring Winton, Mount Isa, Cloncurry, Richmond and Hughenden we now are heading back down south picking up solved puzzles from previous QOGMs. With an overnight stay at Blackall we visited this cache before leaving town for our next destination. We have visited the first waypoint on a couple of occasions now but this time we took more notice of the petrified wood. At the second waypoint we were surprised that it was chained up but we guess that's so it can't be stolen! Our conclusions have been sent off to the CO.Thanks micaparamedic for the interesting earthcache.
After attending QOGM 2023- Longreach we continued out caching expeditions with ?? 54, Nathan and Alyce, Tenkae and the rest of the MummaBear and the cubs gang. Today we also teamed up with Greg and Judi. Was a massive day of caches (sun up to sun down), to clean out the town. While everyone else headed back to town our team ( MummaBear and the Cubs) knew we needed this cache for a challenge we have signed back home. Thanks for the cache placement and maintenanceThanks for the HuntThanks for giving us a reason to stopAnswers and photos sent on 28th September 2023

Well staying in Blackall chasing smiles we decided to do this Earth cache.sent Answers to CO Thank you for bringing us here
Continuing our trip back from QOGM staying in town for a few days to finish getting caches we needed so we decided we would do around town it was another beautiful day today so we set out
While travelling south after the QOGM event, we stopped at Blackall for this one EC.Visited the black stump a number of times but today we were on a mission.Collected the information at both sites & answered mailed to the CO.Thanks for placing this EC
It was sort of amazing to see examples of petrified wood so far from the ocean in Blackall, but given the right circumstances, it just goes to show that these specimens can be found. I wondered what the origins of these were and how far they travelled; I can understand the example stump that was placed at the Posted Coordinates, but the petrified wood example outside of the pub without information was strange. With the fossils examined and answers collected, they were then messaged to the CO for verification. Thanks [micaparamedic](https://coord.info/PRRRZD) for the cache placement and ongoing maintenance.----------This 1.5 week trip, the purpose was the Queensland Outback Geocaching Muster (QOGM) in Longreach, with its aim to encourage tourism and support in rural towns. Departing from Brisbane on Friday 15/09/2023, I travelled solo taking the northern route through Gayndah, Emerald and Jericho on my way to the event, and then returned through Blackall, Morven, St George, Goondiwindi, and Toowoomba arriving back on Monday 25/09/2023.My Longreach highlights included the two QOGM muster/rally days visiting Muttaburra and Isisford; the Qantas Founders Museum; Stockmans Hall of Fame; Silver Tails Rail Sunset Tour; and the general historical town vibe. Other highlights to/from Longreach included climbing Mt Scoria; Barcaldine's Tree of Knowledge and kayaking in the water park; Blackall woolshed scour; and the smaller intriguing and historical towns that I passed through.During my travel days when I was time-poor, I targeted geocaches that were older in age, high D-T, puzzles/challenges, and rare cache types. In addition, I added 7-8 visited LGAs to my statistics. The scenery was memorable with picturesque sunsets, and a diversity of flora and fauna. There were plenty of kangaroos and wallabies, emus, goannas/lizards, brolgas, hawks, and alas wild hogs, and goats.Today, with Longreach QOGM finishing up, it was time to commence my two-day drive home. After making an early departure from Longreach following the [QOGM 2023 CITO](https://coord.info/GCAAHTW) event, I passed through Barcaldine, Blackall, Tambo, Augathella, and then finished up in Morven where the [Morven Major Munch](https://coord.info/GCAE0HW) dinner event was held. I made sure to see the historical sights like the woolshed scour, murals and drilling setup in Blackall, before playing through the Wherigos and finding puzzles and challenge trail. I extended my day after sunset, and completed the Murweh Triangle (MT) geoart puzzles from Augathella to Morven. It was a fairly full day in warm conditions, but the geocaches placed from previous QOGMs were enjoyable, and it was good to add Blackalls LGA to my statistics.Adventure Labs completed: [The History of Tambo](https://labs.geocaching.com/goto/0c74ee1c-bb7e-46cc-b899-55918a0094d4); and [Augathella Art](https://labs.geocaching.com/goto/a28da373-e575-4d0c-b1f2-14a832b17597).
A fav spot of mine in blackall. See GCGNBF. Found on a sojourn all around during QOGM 2023 adventure. A fun jaunt with lots of dust, mud and starry skies. Thanks micaparamedic and clear skies from TeamAstro. Cache the planet! After a good nights sleep in Augathella it was time to hit the road and make our way to Longreach for QOGM, however, plenty of stops were made along the way to towns such as Tambo, Blackall, Barcaldine, Ilfracombe and bunch of other random locations to grab a variety of caches. Great scenery and experiences. This trip will be one to remember, especially since weve never ventured this far out before. Thanks for bringing us here.#3833 - TFTC

Loved this earthcache, very interesting to see the petrified logs and the Black Stump. Thanks for pointing this out.
Well my trip up to QOGM has officially started and I’m taking the very indirect route up to outback QLD to get there.
So after cruising up the Hume to Sydney then the M1 and A1 up to Byron Bay with a few other roads in between as I have been cris crossing a bit so it is time to start heading west.
I have never been up this way before so it will be interesting to see what towns I come across in my travels.
So after spending a great night in Morven it was now time to head North to Barcaldine to hopefully make one of the first unofficial QOGM events before QOGM officially starts.
I left nice and early as I had a few caches earmarked to find on the way up.
A couple of great examples of petrified wood and I remember finding small examples of it as a kid on some of my holidays.
A few towns have examples of the black stump but this one was put to good use.
Answers have been sent to the CO.
Thanks micaparamedic TFTC.

32,939. Found during our Queensland Outback GeoMuster (QOGM) 2023 Longreach Adventure - a 33 day epic tour of Northern NSW and Outback Queensland finding many caches, attending great events and catching up with awesome Cachers along the way.Queensland Outback GeoMuster (QOGM) 2023 Longreach Adventure Day 15. Today we headed from Blackall up to Barcaldine cleaning out more caches. A few nights there will hopefully let me clean out the area before the move to Longreach and the main event (actually lots of events). We keep bumping into fellow Cachers which has been a lot of fun and will keep getting better and better at QOGM itself. This was the next find of the day. Info gathered and answers sent to the CO, with permission to log quickly received. A really interesting Earthcache. Thanks to all the COs for putting out these caches !!
Something special or unusual goes here:I had a lot of trouble understanding what was required here but I have sent of some answers so I hope they are okay. The Generic Bit:QOGM adventure - I was able to catch a ride with Muff1 who were heading to the QOGM event and team up for 3 weeks of caching adventures. 3 weeks in a swag - will my back hold out[?]Day 7: Today we moved northwards again from Augathella to Blackall. I had solved many puzzles in the weeks leading up to this trip and today was another day that I could at least get a bit of return for all the time spent in preparation. Over 30 caches found and although I had a DNF as few phone calls whilst we did a week's worth of clothes washing paid dividends and that was able to be corrected before moving on. **SAs Leap Year Event GCA1DNA - keep the date free - 29th February 2024. - BOING*****Thanks micaparamedic for putting out this cache and maintaining it for our enjoyment. *** Logs prepared and published through GSAK.
Thanks to Deafvw for the answers.
Accompany with DeafVW, DeafCat, and DeafPhantom. I am appreciative of them because they are young and have more energy and good equipment as I didn't bring Ladder with me.
Handy one of them can climb, so I just stood and watched.
Thank you for organising the cache and hunt.

On the hunting trail with SeasonedBird while on a slow roundabout route to QOGM 2023 at Longreach. After 3 days on the on the JPT trail. Bit of a rest day today clearing out the local caches. A quick find here. It’s a great day for caching.

For anyone making Geo plans, do yourself a favour and visit Australia’s only current Geotour at Ballarat while it lasts: https://www.geocaching.com/play/geotours/ballarat-victoria
And for anyone that can travel to Longreach, Queensland, late September 2023, Google “QOGM” which is the Queensland Outback Geocaching Muster. You’ll have at least 8 or 9 days of pure geocaching fun with around 200 like minded people attending a mix of events and access to over 200 geocaches placed by the QOGM team. It’s not a Mega, it’s better.

Departed Melbourne the other day and travelling north for the winter, well, for the northern warmth actually (hopefully ), passing through as many small towns as I can grabbing the odd cache here and there as I travel. Leaving Charleville this morning and heading north again hoping to find somewhere for the night just past Barcaldine. I'll be heading out first thing in the morning through Augathella, Tambo and Blackall
Stopped for a late lunch and another touring couple pulled up at the same time, non-geocachers. They took my photo for me and off they went

Touring Blackall after attending QOGM 2022 down south. Quite a few caches remain unfound since our QOGM 2019 visit, so a good place to spend a few days.

Great Northern escape 2022 Day 145. Barcaldine to Blackall. After a night of torrential rain I eventually coaxed myself outside to see what had happened. The van and car were in a pool of water over five cm deep in my corner of the van park. It made for a very soggy pack up, wading in mud for half an hour. Next was breakfast in town and the drive to Blackall. Happily the main road was clear of water the whole way, but in Blackall there was another very wet van park awaiting me. I was given a concrete slab site and set up. I stayed put for the rest of the day and walked to the local Earth cache and then the pub for dinner. I hope it gets better tomorrow.
As I headed to dinner, I stopped past these two way points to answer the questions. It is nice to concentrate on some of the items that have always been there, but do not always take centre stage. Answers sent via message.

We had planned a road trip to Queensland to visit family in 2021, but our travel plans were stalled due to border closures during the COVID-19 pandemic. Now that the world was trying to get back to a semi normal state, we decided to have another go at getting away from the cold and head up north for some sunshine and warmth.
Day 7 with a change of direction for our trip due to road closures so instead for Tambo to Emerald we had to detour via Blackall and Barcaldine updated the GPS’s to collect caches along the way along with heaps of grey nomads towing caravans even a group of old vintage cars and motorbikes along the roads to contend with.
Always love a EC along a journey and enjoyed this one.

Stayed overnight in town after leaving Mt Isa in the morning. Headed out early in the morning amongst the frost to complete this before make the long drive home.
Found the two WP1 with ease and due to the early hours was able to access without concerns of cars etc. The air was a little damp with affected some of the shine etc. Couldn’t convince the teen to even step out of the car it was so cold.

Finding these remnants around this district, you have to wonder how much more is hidden under the shallow soil - and after the massive floods that just went past, will anything else just pop up to the surface and make someone a hero to show a new discovery?
Thanks micaparamedic.

Travelling homeward bound to Busselton from the Townsville Mega, how lost can we get?
It’s been 2 months since the CacheQld mega and we are still in Queensland, that’s still a long way to go to get home to WA
But the fun bit is, finding all these geocaches along the way.
No matter where we park our caravan for the night, it’s always an exciting day to see this great country through the eyes of the local geocachers.
A great Earth Cache here today in Blackall.

It’s Mega time once again!! Woo hoo!! Love these epic road trips. This time the plan is Canberra to Narromine to Cunnamulla to Blackall, a detour via Winton and then swinging back to Charters Towers before the main event in Townsville. Will see if the April rains and flooding detour us! Thanks to everyone who placed and maintained all these caches that enabled us to have a wonderful holiday! Thanks for placing the cache micaparamedic, without hiders the game wouldn’t exist.

Excellent EC and location! Can't believe it took until 2019 for someone to highlight this "famous" geology example! Thank you
I enjoyed visiting both waypoints, WP2 was probably even more interesting so appreciate you bringing me here! The structure of this fossilised stump was quite cool! The plaque provided some really good information here too!
The listed coordinates were impressive, it is obvious Blackall is quite proud of this tourist attraction and piece of history!

Day 3 of my road trip heading towards Townsville in NQ!
After a pleasant camp in Wyandra, QLD, I was up nice and early once again!
The first goal of the day was the Wherigo cache in this small town, I was happy I was camping here as it was much too dark and I was too exhausted to attempt this cache the night before!
It was another fantastic day, picking up almost 30 caches before settling in a campsite just outside Barcaldine, QLD well after dark...!
Today was pretty exciting for me, to be deep in QOGM territory with wherigos, EC's and letterbox deluxe I was pretty spoilt for being in the outback. This meant an extremely long day though to fit them all in!

I have done a lot of travelling around Australia collection various gemstones and minerals. Loved these large samples. Thanks for pointing them out to us with this cache.
We are zig zagging our way north with micaparamedic, Papi4506 & Geoturtle37 and after staying at Blackall we are heading towards the Lab caches in Emerald via Barcaldine to grab a few solved puzzles there.
We have visited both locations on a previous trip for the 2019 QOGM event but this time it was made far more interesting as we had the CO with us who was able to explain in more detail and also answer any questions we had about petrified wood.
So apart from being a very interesting location we also had our own private geology lesson.
We collected both sets of answers and submitted them verbally to the CO who graciously gave us permission to log the cache.
Thanks micaparamedic for the cache, a favourite point from us.

Found by Mary and David at 10:45 on our journey from Cunnamulla to Tambo. On our way from Tambo to Barcaldine, so just had to stop and attempt this Earthcache. See you soon. Our thanks to micaparamedic
Day 8 of our adventure to Townsville Mega. Stayed at Augathella last night, driving to Barcaldine today. New caches on the road that we haven't found. Back to the Black Stump we have been here quite a few times. Thanks to micaparamedic, hope to see you soon.
TFTC,
Day 8 of our 2022 northern escape to pick up LGA's we had visited prior to Geocaching.
Still another 3 days before our first but taking the time to grab caches we previously missed or have been placed since our last visit.
19 today to help our numbers.
Thi site is amazing and today is the 4th time caching has taken us here.
Visited trackables.

Arriving in Blackall, I stopped by the waypoints for this earthcache. I took photos at each waypoint to help jog my memory when answering the questions. I have sent my answers to the CO.
As a child, petrified wood was one of my favourite rocks. It always amazed me how something organic could be turned to stone.

Out with Swearah collecting caches in Blackall and visited this earth cache. Answers sent to CO. Thanks for bringing us here and thanks for the earth cache!
Road tripping with krcamber and we arrived in Blackall yesterday. Today was our first day of caching in the area and this was a nice one to stop at in the afternoon light.
A very interesting spot and I enjoyed learning about it!
Thanks for a fun and informative EarthCache, micaparamedic

My husband and i are on our way back to Brisbane after a road trip to Uluru and last night we stayed at Longreach and now heading to Charleville and collecting some smileys on the way. This is our second time here. The last time i was new to geocaching and was not confident in trying earth caches. The last year or so i have really started to enjoy earth caches and they take us to some of the best places. This one is a great place to visit and learn about the black stump. I had already gathered most of the answers i could last visit but we came again and i sent the CO the answers and hope they are ok. Giving this a FP for all the fun
We sent our answer couple of days ago. Now we are logging our find.

Sent my answers to the CO via the GC message site on the 6th August and have not heard back so will submit my claim and if necessary I will delete tis if my answers are not correct. Photo attached of my youngoldfella geocaching shirt on the art work.
The number of times I have been to both sites that are required to be visited for this Co would number in the twenties. I have been regularly driv9ing through Blackall for the past twenty years or so and more often as we approached QOGM 2019 in Blackall.
Thank you for using these sites for your Earth Cache. TFTEC micaparamedic.

Full time nomads since 2013. Still tootling around the country trying to avoid Covid hotspots.
Headed south from Blackall today planning to do a long 150km+ circuit. Pulled off the main road to search for our first cache only to have a 4x4 pull up in front. this 4x4 was covered in geo stickers and we soon realised it was Treking Trev who we met in 2017 at Alice Springs.
A chinwag later and we were off caching together for a few hours. Once we parted company we continued on back to Blackall.
Visited these sites again to collect the answers for this Earthcache. Lol. Photo to be added to log. Logging with permission

Visited the Black Stump during a trip from Adelaide to the northern tip of Australia on Cape York Peninsula, traveling along the Strzelecki Track to Innamincka, out to Noccundra and through Quilpie, Blackall, Barcaldine, Hughendon and Ravenshoe to Cairns, then out to Weipa and up to the top. Based myself at the Barcoo River Camping Area at Blackall for two nights, heading out each day to do a circuit of caches in the area. Thanks for the Earthcache micaparamedic!
what an adventure from adelaide to the the tip of cape york, such an adventure. we thank all cache owners for adding to our adventure and most of all making it such an amazing way to explore as we drove through this fantastic country side. TFTCSL
While i was visiting the black stump, took some photos here and in town at WP2. It took me 5 weeks or so to get around to send the answers. Did that and now got the approval, logging the find on the day I was there. Thanks for this one.
Day 2 of 8 (Tambo to Longreach) of a Queenslander road trip with Kestal, clocking just over 4000km, to tick off boxes for different challenges. Admittedly we visited this spot for the multi but I really enjoyed both the points of interest of the Earthcache and their relative information. Answers sent. TFTC micaparamedic.
Day 2 and the planned driving to Longreach was much shorter than Day 1 but the find total was higher as we travelled through Blackall and Barcaldine picking up some oldies and others of interest.
Arriving in Blackall we had a few on the hit-list before continuing on with our journey to Longreach. This was one. Collecting our info at at the very important first waypoint we continued into town to grab a coffee and the info needed at the second waypoint. All gathered and sent of to the CO via Eskies5. TFTC and bringing us to the area micaparamedic

When we visited Blackall previously we don’t believe this Earthcache was here so it was a pleasant surprise to find. An interesting location at WP1 on several fronts.
We collected the information as we saw it and then proceeded to WP2 which we had gone past several times during the day. Thought it was a meteorite as we glanced. Maybe that is because it’s a link to the book I am reading currently. Anyway discovered what it really was and recorded our observations.
Thank you for an informative Earthcache.
It was only a short drive from Tambo to Blackall today, but we did find a few caches in Tambo that we had not done yesterday before we left. A puzzle we had solved last night, the final for a wherigo we did yesterday, and another 15 stage Wherigo. Then it was a few more caches en route.
Set up in Blackall for a while now.
Thank you to the local COs for developing and maintaining the caches. You are much appreciated.

TFTEC. Was here a few years ago but didn’t have time to do the cache. Staying here 2 nights. A lovely bit of geological history. I’m visiting from the Hunter valley near Newcastle.

Day Five of our caching adventure in Blackall. Today we attempted some caches in and south of town.
Thanks for placing this cache here. Over the years, Geocaching has taken us on many adventures and to lots of wonderful destinations all over Australia. Without 'caching as our guide we would never have found so many interesting places on our nomadic wanderings. 'Caching has also introduced us to a diverse group of like-minded people, many of whom we now call friends.
Regards
Ian & Penny

We knew we'd pass through Blackall and highlighted a few interesting-looking caches: ECs and a Letterbox in town.
As we were gathering the info (and, learning another idiom in the lingo of our chosen homeland) we finally figured that we even know the CO of this one. The small world of geocaching!
Hope we got the answers right, awaiting our report card.
Thanks for this very engaging EC

Logging old caches originally found with alphag_25. Now have my own account and logging them separately so that I can claim the finds.
06/01/21 Today caching to Blackall and surrounds. Roadtrip Mackay to Emerald to Barcaldine to Aramac to Blackall to Jericho over the next 3 weeks. Lots of puzzle solving before and during trip. Searched area and found GZ . Replaced and signed log. TFTC SL Visited sites and sent answers to CO.

Finally made Blackall after leaving Barcaldine fairly early but taking back roads to try and get a few different caches done along the journey. Big driving day for us today, but this cache had been on our list from when we left home on our two week drive. We have the answers which we will send to CO shortly. Logging now to keep our holiday trackable moving in the correct order. Thanks for creating an Earthcache at this iconic spot micaparamedic. Cheers
I am heading up to Barcaldine region for a week of family time and of course geocaching. Sorry for the generic post. Especially because I am going to find a lot. TFTC
Got this one while we were wandering around town. An iconic spot and worthy of a cache. Thanks micaparamedic. Fav point and photo uploaded
Thanks for a fantastic earth cache, different and informative and highlights the reason for both parts of the cache.
I have enjoyed Blackall and will be back, there is so much to take in, in just a few days.
This cache gets a favourite point from me; it has enlightened me to the history of the area, well done, simple yet informative.

Day 6 of my travels north from Adelaide in search of some warmer weather and a few caches. After travelling up the Strzelecki Track to Innamincka, I made my way to Blackall via Quilpie and Adavale and stayed for a couple of nights.
I had previously been to Blackall in May 2018 and found most of the caches in the area. But since then a whole lot of new ones have been published - enough to make a return visit worthwhile, particularly given that I really enjoyed travelling around the region last time I was here.
Today I headed out with a view to finding a selection of caches of interest. They included around 24 Traditionals, 20 Mystery caches (including a night cache), 9 Letterbox hybrids, a Wherigo and an Earthcache. Only one of those ended up being a DNF.
Some impressive old lumps of wood here! I loved the way the one in the main street is chained down.
Thanks micaparamedic for an interesting earthcache.

This location is a must-do in Blackall and a couple of caches here, also Spent a bit of time gathering information, reading up in local history, chatting to other visitors, and admiring the petrified wood. Selfie taken with sign The Black Stump Muddled thru the multi and got there eventually.
If you check out RoddyC’s Earthcache at Alpha, it explains the difference between fossilised and petrified wood.
Pic of Tibby pathtag uploaded. Responses sent to the CO.
TFTC micaparamedic Dropping a FAVE point here.

This was a very interesting earthcache. We have seen petrified wood before, in Singapore. They have a big garden with these trees.
