I have checked on this hide, and it is indeed gone. I’ve decided to archive this one because the landscape around it has become untenable.
Spent ages looking for this one. Climbed the tree, climbed the other tree, searched the ground, and found nothing
Flood signs debris along the river are a reminder. Out on trusty treadles (aka MTB) on a nice January arvo on n a merry mighty multi mission that includes this LGA. Good reason to explore marvellous Melbs and it’s many parks. Nice spot for the citizens to wander. Wow factor is how high did that river rise? TFTC and the fun!
A beautiful walk out to GZ and just a stunning tree. A magical little spot, big thanks to the CO and she knows why
Took the geo-pup for an adventure along the Maribyrnong River to pick up some caches.

Well I had the legs tested here.
Well not really but it was fun.
Nice place to log a smiley.

Found by Mary and David at at 15:50. D must be one of the oldest finders of this cache to date. M is proud of his knees, but we both think we could hear his joints creaking in protest. Our thanks to shack1961.
Thought and planning are a hallmark of most of Shack's hides. I really have enjoyed the river series so far. This cache is no exception.

here is a mildly interesting fact:
this is one of only two caches in the shire of maribyrnong with a terrain rating of three or more
and just before:
we found the only cache in the shire of moonee valley with a terrain rating of three or more
there is no real greater significance to this information
you and we will likely do nothing with these facts
but for some reason on some map with some filter, that information bubbled to the surface
and despite being late for an event far down the road, we detoured here for that mildly interesting reason
so
for a treasure that meets a strange and pointless criteria
thank you

It’s a shack1961 afternoon as Starruby and I enjoyed the river views on a sunny Saturday afternoon. (Thanks for the caches )( had a dinner engagement on this side of town)
We found 6 caches of the series.
This was the 4th one found. Again off the path. Checked the terrain. Looked around. How did I miss that. ? Then Starruby saw it
Good sized cache - signed and returned.

Found this cache quickly as it was lying on the ground. Hung back in the area where it most likely came from
Finally managed to find an afternoon to explore shack1961 territory! After a delay in the loop due to a police operation at Southern Cross station, I got off the train at Albion station and rode clockwise along the beautiful Maribyrnong river, aiming to end up at Footscray station.
This was the seventh cache for today.
That was a nice climb. Couldn’t see the cache from the ground, but once up it soon popped out.
Congratulations on finding a climbable gum tree - not easy to do!

Once I started looking in the right place, I almost lost my nerve. Walked away, thinking I come back another time. Then turned around and did it. Way out of my comfort some but a great experience. Never did anything like this as a child. Glad I didn't land on my geodog on the way down
Love feeling like a little kid and having a climb. Took a Mexican Doo Dah and left a tree. Found by Fionn97 and I.
Lovely change of pace. First cache found on this this geocaching adventure (not the first attempt haha)

Hint was very appropriate and I saw it but did not attempt the reach. Will take someone more nimble next time.
We had to skip the previous river view due to the muggle traffic but this one was much easier. Nice quick find and return. Thanks for the series.

Found a fluoro golf ball nearby. Is sitting there for the next golfing cacher. TFTC
This one was a bit of a struggle, as it was the first time I ever actually climbed a tree, but you choose a pretty good spot to put it. nice!
You have some well stocked caches I have to say. No idea how I wasn’t busted while getting this one as I felt quite exposed. Log signed & replaced & TB left. Thanks again for another great cache!0
I think the near by golfers were more interested in me than their game. Clearly haven't seen a bloke my age in this position before.
Smile and wave boys.
Smile and wave.
I managed to circle in on this one from all directions until i read the description. Doh.

Out and about with echidna44 for a great day of caching. Really enjoying our walks through these green belts in the area. just completed one nearby we crossed the river these couple. I get to do these ones. Love it. Nice easy find. Cant see the river. Great day after enjoying discovering some very interesting inventions in style and variations and NO DNF's. Thanks shack1961 for a great day of caching
Out with xambo4u, we had a great day with no DNFs, even though quite a few were marvellous gadget caches
Luckily only one person had to obtain this cache, so I watched.
Thanks shack1961.

Repaired and ready to go. I just wanted to mention that you don't need to do the string there is a clip you can unhooked to get the cache down
A trip into The Burbs was in order today for SorceySal, myself and Bree the geopuppy.
The plan was to do the Valley Lake series and the River Views series doing most of them on foot to give us all a good stretch of the legs on a beautiful Summer's day in the mid20s.
easiest terrain 3 in a while
Thanks for the fun here shack1961

Out for a day of caching with Bogonghazy and Bree the geodog in the suburbs for a change with a few walks on the agenda. A great walk along the river today collecting caches along the way.
BH made the short climb as I spied the cache. Thanks shack1961

Left the kid to get this one. Could see where it was attached from below and with her younger legs I left her to it. She did freak out a bit as the container was full of dead things...she said crickets but who would know? Couldn't see from where I was. Log signed and she was too scared to clean it out... sorry!
I headed to the event in Deer Park, stopping at a new nearby cache, then some more caching with Alansee after the event. After a short walk from the previous cache, we arrived at GZ and soon spotted the cache, which was quickly signed and we were on our way again.
My thanks for the cache, shack1961.

Found with Muzza. I am glad for that hint, otherwise it would have taken a bit longer!
Thanks to Jenfuzzled for the heads up on my cache needing some TLC
All fixed for now.

Haha, the little climb here was bigger than I anticipated! Found the cache and replaced it with some difficulty. The cache was full of water and some ants had made home inside the logbook. Tried my best to clear them out. Might need some moderator TLC!
This was SUCH a fun cache. Involved a little bit of an incline which was fun. Left a lucky crystal for next find

It's so good to be able to walk somewhere that's not confined to a five-klick radius from home!
So you know, shack1961, that this cache is not much more than a stone's throw from the pipe bridge and #7. Well, today I learnt that it's also 13 kilometres away via the next dry crossing, which happens to be the EJ Whitten Bridge.
So this was a good spot to rest. Well, sort of. A bit of a scramble and a slightly precarious perch were up to the task of signing, and off I trotted back over to the other side of the river.

Scary to replace. Unfortunately my arms weren't long enough to reach the ring it was hung on.. it's still hung but it's now facing the path. CO intervention might be needed. So sorry. I was all by myself here trying to catch some sunshine for Vitamin D. Doc said in low on vitD and that's helpful for the immunity against COVID19.
Thank you shack1961, for creating, placing and maintaining this cache. I have enjoyed finding it and visiting this spot.

Look, I didn’t climb, but would definitely be fun for others who are so inclined. Tftc
With the ease on restrictions. I am slowly enabling my hides. Encouraging all continue to practise social distancing and above all, sanitising and good hygiene while caching..so that we can continue.
Cheers all and happy caching!

I am disabling all of my caches temporarily in accordance with the regulations for the safety of the community, until this terrible time is over and we can resume our beloved hobby. Until then, stay safe everyone.

Had to work hard for this one after it was spotted. Took much longer to retrieve than the others.

Found this one pretty quickly! Enjoying this trail and the river side walk after the rain!
I found the cache and made the climb. Very brave. Signed the log and descended. It felt good to achieve such heights. I might even try the cache in the Fitzroy Gardens after doing this one
This one was a lot of fun. After waiting for a jogger to pass by, I moved in for the find. Lots of dead earwigs inside, but not too much of a problem. Cheers!
Recently my partner made a joke about replacing my dog Howard with a cat called Howard. I'm very suspicious that he did it somehow and has dressed a cat as my dog, because today I learnt that Howard can climb 1.5m up a tree!!! I had left Howard on the ground off leash so he could watch me going for the climb and not get scared. I was crouching in the fork leaning towards the cache, when I hear a scrambling besides me. Howard had climbed up and was next to me in the fork! He then started climbing up further, and before I knew it he was higher than me with his front paws on my shoulders! It was absolutely ludicrous! We got down, as I needed my phone for a photo, and I couldn't lean out for the cache with him on me. I then sent him back up, which he very happily did (twice), to take the photos in my log! Who knew terriers were cats? I then went back up (with him tied up on the ground) to sign. As others had mentioned, there were earwigs in the cache. However, on our way back to the car, Howard and I bumped into shack1961 at River Views 5 on her maintenance run, with a plan for getting rid of the earwigs. We had a fantastic chat, I told her the story of the Dog In The Tree, and she gave me some tips on placing my own hides. A lovely afternoon! Thanks for the chat, cache, timely maintenance, and hiding tips shack1961!
Looks like I will have to get over to this one and do something about those pesky earwigs...
Thanks for the heads up everyone
Thanks for the heads up everyone
Didn’t really have the right shoes for this one and by the time I got back to the car I had blisters! But hey it was worth it to get a cache The cache is still full of earwigs and I fear they will start to eat the log Lucky I got to sign it in time TFTC
Got up the tree to find. There’s heaps of bugs inside the cache! It’s a bit gross in there.
__Cat__ did the retrieval for this one. Cache was full of earwigs - we emptied them out but no doubt they'll be back. TFTC
I carry a few niggles in my legs thee days and often face a tree climb with some trepidation since tearing a muscle on a similar exploit in Darwin 3 months ago.
Being in your late 50's doesn't help either but I am still drawn like a magnet to these types of hides and made short work of it.
Whilst opening the container the tb fell out. Oh well I will take that with me. As I replaced the cache it broke loose of its karabiner and also fell to earth.
I now had to repeat the whole exercise.
Thanks for the adventure!

A nice quick and easy find on a beautiful afternoon stroll around the area.
Only need one find for the day and am a little bit time poor to tackle the other nearby cache.

Fire and Water
That described this day.
The local landcare group were trying a new method of insect eradication without using herbicides. Unfortunately the young and inexperienced were trying a method that currently is terrorising so much of New South Wales and Queensland.
Fire
It seemed like a good idea but this sophisticated flame thrower is the wrong hands quickly got out of control. The feet of the two assistants were virtually useless until they got there knapsacks to quench the flames. But these assistants didn't know how to work the knapsacks as the water just reluctantly trickled from the nozzle.
But Chuck Banana to the rescue with a green leaf branch that swept away the fire while the others paniced.
Only a little water was all that was needed to stem the residual smoldering.
They thanked us.
And we thanked them for letting bananas find this treasure before they burnt the whole area.
As the bananas boarded our paddler for the watery trip homeward, not sure if there flame throwers were the ideal way of fauna control due to the dire consequences of so many unknowns in this one tinder dry enviroment.
