After a bit of a mishap yesterday we had to do a trip to Blenheim to pick up some spare keys to our brother's campervan. Apparently, those vans lock themselves when we did not expect it to do so, especially when the keys are inside the van.So we were up and out the door early and heading for the spare keys. At the event last week, I had said that we were not going to bother with the souvenir challenge that is on at the moment. Well with an unexpected trip over the hill the challenge was discussed and a plan or two was made.A quick detour and we soon arrived at gz, gk leapt out and found the cache while I was loading the next one. Thanks for a nice quick find and thank you for the smiley
The cellar door was closed, so my eyes were quite misty, but not enough to prevent me from finding this one. TFTC.
Off the main road for a while now and this should make it easier to grab the caches as not so many vehicles going by. Another easy find here. tftc#7078
Picking up Mrs Rubbishparty from the airport this evening. She’s arriving for the weekend as geocaching reinforcements. Had extra time to collect some caches on the way. Slowly collecting this series. Have really enjoyed visiting to many different vineries. Thanks for the smiley.
Out and about in the area between the Waihopai River and Renwick with Kiwimykl this afternoon in an attempt to get the hard souvenir in the latest GCHQ challenge. All in all we managed to get eight caches and took our tally from 890 to 980, so still a little bit to do. This was our third find of the afternoon and was a QEF PnG as per the hint. Kiwimykl took time to read some of the logs and said it looks like he started a trend with his comments about the fire.

Today's plan was to travel along the Renwick-St Arnaud road to locate and sign off a few caches.
It wasn't that misty today.
Cheers for the cache.

A nice quick find thanks. It looks like someone has left treasures outside of the cache. Could get a bit messy!
Ms_KR and I are back from our wee tour of the North Island. Today we cruised from Blenheim to Murchison. Once the morning cloud burnt off the day was hot and sunny.
Thanks to all CO's for publishing and maintaining their caches. Cheers.

On our way to Renwick for the weekend via the much nicer route from Nelson.
Second finders today.
We turned off the main road and saw lots of chaps in hi-vis and a group of vans.
We rounded the corner and more hi-vis were walking towards us.
Arrived at GZ and two hi-vis were just sitting contemplating.
Continued down to the end of the road to turn around to discover one of the vans heading our way. Yay, they are picking up all the loitering hi-vis people. Two minutes later the road was clear and we made an undisturbed foray at GZ.
We counted 8 to 10 per van and five vans on our way out. Thats a whole bunch of workers.
Sad that its the most entertainment that we had all day.

Within seconds of arriving here a lovely, very young, couple stopped to ask if I needed any help. LOVE this country! All is well at the site. TFTC
I had grand plans today of heading out to Pelorus Bridge for a spot of serious caching, the hours were few left in the day after impromptu business at the fire station, and enjoying a needle in my arm for my second dose of the anit-Covid jab.
So I settled on a short local trip, the first ride on the motorbike this week, up the valley to finish clearing up the Southern Valley Irrigation Scheme area of caches.
The gravel roads around here were ideal for a bit of last minute practice before a friend and I venture up the Mt Patriarch road, well as far as we get before it gets too rough. Hopefully he's patient enough to allow me to get at least some of the more remote caches along the way.
Unfortunately, as we get closer to the Winter Solstice on the 21st of June, the days are getting very short. So by 17:30, after having visited just 5 of the 9 caches I had eyed up, it was too dark to proceed. We shall return to clean up the 'crumbs' in this area!
A few years ago we had a fire here, caused after wind snapped the power pole and the wires shorted and caused the fire. You can see the signs of the fire in the surrounding pines, as well as this melted Telecom marker sign. The fire was 6th Jan 2020, after this cache was placed, and I notice some drama occured in the log section below with references being made to a certain Billy Joel hit. I can finally confirm, that We Did Not Start The Fire.
A nice big toy here for the next young person to happen upon this cache. TFTC

In the area today, getting greener here, like the day. Checked on the hide and still all good. And, physically added my name to the log (with permission log 06 Mar 2020).
Heading up to the Lake for a hill climb as the hills around home are closed due to fire risk.
A quick detour off the main road and I'm at GZ. Found quickly due to great hint.

At this time of the year it gets pretty hot during the day around here, so I headed out nice and early while it was still nice and cool. Lots of Utes out on the roads this morning. TFTC
Thanks for putting out this cache for woolwood9 and I to find!
SL **tm/ww NZ** (may just be a black smudge on wet or plastic logs)
*We soon had another good cache located, now onto the next one!*

Today was the day to head for home in Nelson. I found a few caches along the way. No problems here. Cache found in the first place I checked. TFTC, Biggles.
Bit of damage to the white plastic marker post but cache is all safe and sound, tftc.
A great morning out & about collecting a few caches with Ricardinho. On our way to Picton, to enjoy the beautiful weather out there & a walk around the waterfront for me. TFTC Mr Parke
Without a doubt there sure are lots of wineries in Marlborough, just imagine how many glasses are drunk . Canned wine, now that’s different, I do hope they've got something other than tear tabs as a point of difference. This was the easiest find of the day . Thanks for your efforts in putting a cache here in the first place .
The SIS were caching in Blenheim as our first group trip this year. We spotted the obvious spot for a cache as we arrived so contacted the CO to see if we could replace it. We had a quick response while walking to 2 other caches so called in on the way back and left a container.
Thanks to the CO (and to Sidewaze who had the right container with her).

last night while looking at where we were heading today I could see we would be driving past this disabled cache that the CO was going to replace tomorrow. I thought I'd contact him to see if we could replace it but when I read more about the fire I thought it was going to need a whole new repositioning so just left it. On our way past today we stopped for a look-see and then a plan was hatched - I had an idea, SoBad contacted the CO, Sidewaze had the replacement and the CO agreed. So a real team effort here thanks ricardinho TFTC # 15,651
I will be able to replace this cache by the end of July. I will check in on it 25/07.
With permission of the CO I am logging this one as I alerted him to the charcoaled area that the cache was sitting in and uncertain what work will be done here and when.
I had just dropped a TB at a new hide of mine and this, being on my watchlist because my OCD wouldn't let me claim it yet, I alerted the CO before the photo in the paper. And, unlike Lars said we didn't need to fight fire with fire and we hope the end isn't near...
I just noticed this cache has been disabled and feel I need to say that, as the last finder:
We didn't start the fire
It was always burning
Since the world's been turning
No we didn't light it
But we tried to fight it
Billy Joel

In response to the recent disclaimer concerning accusations of arson about, Keith Flint of the Prodigy might have been a good starting point . . . . .
There has been a fire here and while the cache survived, what it was hidden behind did not.
Disabled for a while as they might do some work around here.

As per our health and safety rules we need to take regular breaks from our computers to prevent eye strain and poor posture. Accordingly, I headed out the door and tracked down this cache in order to achieve these aims. It also helped me on my way to achieving the 3-2-1-Go challenge.

We had decided it was time for one of our regular forays to Marlborough since there was more than enough new caches published since our last visit.
After completing the Adventure Lab cache in Blenheim we headed down to Seddon to seek out some more there then cache our way back north again. This was one of those.
This was our second Winery cache for the day and an easy find.
Thank you ricardino.nz

It was the Adventure Lab Cache that was the motivator to come over the hill and the number of new placements in and around Blenheim to make it all worthwhile. Only two wineries on the list today. Nice and easy. Thank you ricardinho
It's December already. Heck, it was only March a couple of months ago. So much to do, so little enthusiasm to do it. Except for keeping my FTF streak going, of course. So when the phone went bingely I headed out to check some new caches. This series seems to be the Christmas present that keeps on giving! Decided to go to this one as it was further away, but my direct route to it went straight past another so I stopped there anyway. Already claimed, so I left it for later. This one is still free, so quickly nabbed. And yes, an empty log book! {FTF}.
Off to a couple of CITOs...

On the way to the airport and a little bit of time available before check in. Took the circuitous route to both of the nearby new caches and a double find and sign was just the ticket. Off to Auckland shortly so how to maybe grab a couple of nearby ones when passing.
